A BRAND NEW hot, spicy forbidden rivals workplace romance from VH Nicolson ‘VH Nicolson’s characters will touch your heart and her storytelling will always leave you wanting more.’ Sadie Kincaid

'A fan-yourself billionaire romance you'll think about long after the last page.' Elle Nicoll

One night. One stranger. One mistake I can't forget…

Max Hart is the last man on earth I’d ever want. We’re usually fighting it out on opposing sides of the courtroom, not diving headfirst into an illicit affair. I didn’t realize it was him when I let my inhibitions drop. Dating in the dark was meant to be anonymous, a thrill, and a way to escape my life for one night. But I didn’t expect to be drawn to the devil. Just one taste of Max Hart, and I’m in trouble. Because Max isn’t just my rival; he’s the one person who can destroy everything I’ve been hiding, yet I can’t seem to stay away.

I will break all my rules…for her

I take pride in my bachelor status. I have four no commitments, no relationships, no mentioning forever, and definitely no Paige Bradshaw. She's brilliant, irritating, and always gets under my skin, but I love our fiery battles in the boardroom. Then one night, everything changes. The mystery woman who blew my mind? It was her. Now I can't get Paige out of my head. I should know better. Resist temptation. Stay professional. But she has me wanting to burn all my rules to ashes and risk everything to learn more about the woman behind the mask.

One Liner: This was okayish

Max Hart is more than happy being a bachelor and having no-strings relationships. He wants nothing to do with Paige Bradshaw, even if their battles in the courtroom excite him. However, one night with a mystery woman who turns out to be Paige changes everything. With secrets she is determined to protect, can the duo find a way forward?

The story comes in Max and Paige’s first-person POVs.

My Thoughts:

Well, the premise was fun, and since I enjoyed the previous book, I hoped I would like this too. The main characters are decent, but their development gets sacrificed for smut. There is still some growth, but it would have been better to see those scenes.

The enemies-to-lovers part is done well. They are shown as proper opponents snapping at each other. Once things change, they change pretty fast on one side.

Both characters are in their early 40s, though they don’t always act like that. Especially in the third-act breakup, which was not necessary. It came a bit too late, and the scene felt so off that I couldn’t help but roll my eyes and skim through.

We meet the Hart brothers, of course. The book should work as a standalone, even though it takes place after the previous one. The setting and family are the same. However, I felt the dynamics were better in that book than in this.

Those who read the author’s works will know that she writes a lot of spice, and this one seemed to have an extra dose as well.

Some of the side characters are interesting. Alfie is adorable! I wish we had more scenes with him.

There is an epilogue, which is a plus. We also have the foundation ready for the next book. The pairing sounds fun, so I will mostly read it.

To summarize, Breaking His Rules is an okay read if you want something spicy to pass the time. Don’t expect much from it, though!

Thank you, NetGalley and Boldwood Books, for the eARC. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

This could've been interesting, but it was just repetitive. It was as if we were reading the same formula from the previous book: insta-love and lust, some problem breaks the couple and interferes with the brother's relationship and by the end everything is resolved and somehow the mother has to make an appearance even if it doesn't really make sense for her to be there at that particular time. The dialogue was also repetitive, and I swear I couldn't read the word 'digits' one more time. It was as if I was reading on a loop waiting to reach the final chapter. Which by the time it came, I couldn't really care about the characters or how the story ended.

Tropes include: Billionaire, Enemies to Lovers, One Night Stand, Hidden Identities, Workplace Romance, Surprise Baby (Adoption), Forbidden/Secret Romance

Oh, how I struggled with this one. I have scattered thoughts that I’m not sure I want to unscramble, so here are some notes I took as I read:

• SO many similes and not good ones
• Immature feeling at times - these people are 40???
• Good plot though? Ghost of a plot? Maybe not
• The inner dialogue of Paige was annoying Paige is such a push over with her own self - yuck
• The way the dialogue flows is odd. Lots of inner thoughts interspersed which is not only confusing but incredibly disruptive
• Max actually wasnt that bad? We’re supposed to not like him?
• Odd wording choices
• Lots of telling almost zero showing
• Going on the pill immediately while still actively planning to “end” things is DIABOLICAL
• The spice was fine but overshadowed by the plot being the way it was

It’s like once you notice one annoying thing about someone, everything about them starts to annoy you. The further I read, the more annoyed I became.

The part that drew me in, the “dating in the dark” sort of meet-cute, was such a blip on the radar of this book. It had potential but then devolved into chaos that made me completely forget about that even happening to begin with.

You know it’s bad when half way through the book, I’m only reading because I want to know what happens with Alfie. I don’t prefer children in my romance books, but that subplot was the most interesting part of the book and it wasn’t even mentioned in the synopsis 🤦‍♀️

Some behavior/banter felt like it was only included to prove that the “enemies to lovers”/forbidden trope was being satisfied. Paige would state so firmly to herself that they were over and then in the next breath, say how they’ve been delving into their childhoods and growing closer?? We bounced between “yes” and “no” so many times my head was spinning 😵‍💫 There’s a way to write an “ice queen” but the way Paige is portrayed is as a hot and cold queen. Infuriating.

The entire “third act breakup” was actually crazy. I was pulling my hair out. Nothing made sense, there was a weird change in pov to one of the brothers, and everything felt rushed.

I wanted to give up at so many points. Around 90%, I was kind of done. It took me days too long to finish this book but I just couldn’t bring myself to pick it up. I clawed my way to the end and I’m relieved it’s over.

This had everything I usually love, but failed to deliver. It wasn’t for me and I can’t say I’ll seek out any other books in this series. That being said, many other reviews disagree, so as always, a review is only an opinion and I encourage any reader to go in with an open mind.

This was an exciting and steamy enemy to lovers workplace romance, with lots of hate to love tension, pining and angst.
Their chemistry was perfection as they navigate a masked blind date, intimate late night video calls, and a rivals with benefits forbidden romance with secret liaisons.
Paige is juggling her career, being an unexpected single mother, and battling adoption paperwork, so when her friend suggests a spontaneous night out, it leads to a masked date at a sex club, and some insta-lust attraction with an unforgettable stranger.
Pulled back to reality, Paige continues to go head to head with her work rival Max, secretly pining for the mysterious stranger.
Max is also determined to find his mystery women, and when he does his priorities shift and he risks it all to pursue her.
Paige is strong, feisty, resilient, passionate and caring, and Max is sweet, dominant, protective and devoted.
This has a great balance of tension, drama, and spice, and a swoony romantic connection and hea.

Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Breaking His Rules is a smart, addictive romance that blends heat, tension, and genuine emotional depth. From the first chapter, V.H. Nicolson draws you into a story built around irresistible chemistry and the thrill of crossing lines you know probably shouldn’t be crossed—but can’t help rooting for anyway.

The heart of the novel is the dynamic between the protagonists, whose relationship walks a delicious tightrope between forbidden, complicated, and absolutely meant-to-be. Their banter is sharp and playful, their emotional moments buzz with sincerity, and their physical connection is fire. Nicolson writes both tenderness and desire with equal skill, making it easy to get invested in every stolen glance and rule broken along the way.

What truly elevates this book is its emotional undercurrent. The characters aren’t just vehicles for tension—they’re layered, vulnerable, and wrestling with fears, ambition, and past wounds. Watching them grow—individually and together—adds depth that makes the romance feel earned rather than sudden. Their conflicts aren’t just plot obstacles; they resonate, making the happily-ever-after all the more satisfying.

Nicolson’s pacing is tight, with just the right balance of angst, humor, and heartfelt scenes. The writing is smooth and vivid, making it incredibly easy to binge. By the end, you’re not just rooting for the couple—you feel like you’ve lived their journey with them.

If you love:
✅ Slow-burn attraction
✅ Forbidden / rule-breaking romance
✅ Strong character growth
✅ Steamy tension with heart

…this book will be an instant favorite.

I adored it — the chemistry was electric, the story emotional in all the right ways, and the characters lingered with me long after the final page. It’s the kind of romance you want to reread just to relive the spark.

Thank you to Boldwood books for the early arc.
I will break all my rules…for her

Oh, my heart. This book was such a fun ride with a hint of angst towards the end.
I'm a huge fan of this author and read all her books.
Nicholson delivers a heartfelt story with deep, complex. characters, brilliant plot and spice that doesn’t override the story.
Her sense of fun and humour are evident on nearly every page and the emotional angst three thirds in, has you feeling for Max and Paige.
He's definitely book boyfriend material and desperately loyal.
Page is also a lawyer, smart, sassy, and deep.
The vibes are in full force and I just didn't want it to end.
I cannot wait to read Max's brothers book (Eli the brother) next.

If you thought Nathan Hart was hot in Breaking His Law then wait until you meet his younger brother Max. Dynamite divorce attorney with a quick wit and a wicked tongue! The only person who ever beats him as opposing counsel is Paige - strong, fiesty and formidable in the courtroom.

One night in the dark at a hawt exclusive club their relationship is forever changed.

Max rethinks his 4 rules...
No commitments
No relationships
No forever
Definitely no Paige Bradshaw

And Paige?
She sees Max in a completely different light and what starts out as one of the hottest nights in romance history ignites a need for more

For Paige it's finding someone worthy of her love
For Max it's finding someone worth Breaking His Rules for.

VH Nicolson captures the forbidden love x workplace rivals to perfection. It's an Enemies to Lovers smorgasbord of biting comments, sizzling chemistry and coming out on top .

I loved the early rivalry between them. There is clear combustible chemistry from the start which ignites brilliantly in the dark. This initial encounter very much felt like a fated moment for me in which each character is stripped back to who they really are and they just connected beautifully. No workplace politics, no preconceived notions, no artifice - just Max and Paige falling for each other.

On a separate note I absolutely love that the author doesn't shy away from writing females with a backbone and a bit of life experience under their belt. It's a recurring element throughout her books that really helps them stand out. They're strong, sassy at times, and occasionally a bit fiesty but they're also hugely likeable, loyal, loving, and would walk over hot coals for the people they love. Paige fits the VH Nicolson FMC mold perfectly - they're all individuals but they're all someone you'd recruit into your girl squad!

As for her leading men... first and foremost they're hot. Max is sizzling but to me it's their characters that elevate them. They're often complex and have real depth to them. The camaraderie and family bonds between the brothers is perfect and you know that books 3 & 4 are going to be phenomenal.

100% recommend 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Quick Summary: A hot & heavy, enemies to lovers, secret identity romance

My Review: Breaking His Rules by V.H. Nicolson is book #2 in The Billionaire Hart Brothers series. It is scheduled for release on 11/13/25.

About the Book: "One night. One stranger. One mistake I can't forget… "

In My Own Words: Rivals and opposing counsels butt heads all while secretly finding each other attractive. When a chance encounter occurs after hours, the heat is turned up and both burn in the flames.

My Final Say: This!!! There was so much to this story. Yes, sexy times were present, but at the core, it dealt with choices, growth, loving beyond self, and family. It was a story about learning to give up in order to gain something more. It was about experiencing happiness that may have come differently than originally planned. I loved it.

Readers are strongly encouraged to look beneath the surface with this one. There is a depth present that should speak to those who like emotional arcs.

Other: Readers who enjoy witty banter, spicy sarcasm, secret attractions, and enemies to lovers stories will totally like this novel.

This story is truly heart-tugging. Paige is an incredible lawyer with a compassionate heart, always going above and beyond for her clients. She’s also raising her nephew, who was left on her doorstep by her sister, and she’ll do anything to protect him. Max calls Paige the ice queen, and she even intimidates one of his brothers. Paige hasn’t been with a man in a while, but her friend convinces her to go to a club where they participate in a “date in the dark.” There, she meets a hot guy, but she has to leave. Who could that man be? It’s an amazing read, highly recommended!

Couldn’t put this one down! My first time reading this author and I can’t wait to read another one soon. It was hot AF, funny, snarky, and so addictive!

"We're not just complicated, Max, it's forbidden, messy. Impossible."

Paige Bradshaw and Max Hart were rivals at the top of their game. Until one mind-blowing night has them rethinking everything they believed about the other. From secret identities to secret trysts, they risked everything to indulge their attraction and desires.

"He doesn't need to say what he's feeling, I feel it too. This unspoken pull, and unexplained connection, as we tip the scales between restraint and surrender."

I picked up this book every spare moment I had. I was totally invested in Paige and Max. Their encounters were super hot, the things that Max did for her were out of character but melted my heart. He was determined to make her his, as she properly brought him to his knees. Paige was clever, kind and tough. I loved how she yielded to Max and temptation and stole time for herself, while Max broke every rule he had, for her. I loved the way she opened his eyes to a life he never knew he wanted for himself. Such a gorgeous story!

She does it again! I swear anything Vicky writes turns to gold. I loved max a lot (not as much as Nathan because no one will ever beat him). I loved reading him going toe to toe with Paige and she always gave as good as she got but when max fell he fell hard and fast and to be honest I did not see that coming from him. Super spicy as well and so refreshing to read older characters in books too as these two are 40 which I absolutely loved. This series just keeps blowing me away and now I’m going to sit here like a good girl and wait for Cole’s book.

This was actual perfection! Vicki slays when she writes Billionaire Men and this is no different.
Max knew what he wanted and he certainly went for it. Paige pushed him, tested him and took no BS from him and their push and pull and chemistry was simply magical to read.

⭐2 Because no OWD/cheating

I came here to read about lawyers wiping the floor with eachother. Instead I got a little girl, playing single mom who can't make up her mind, all smut and barely any plot.

This book starts out with very immature characters who are supposed to be 40 years old and the best lawyers out there. Instead they seem like two kids at highschool. The banter is cringe. Writer is pushing too hard to create the playboy, but not really image for Max. Max’s POV could’ve easily been that of a woman. The brothers relationship also seems very feminine.

The book is a cocktail of random things thrown in, lawyers who dont behave like lawyers, a s*xclub, going with your brother to that club (😵‍💫wtf?!), talking to your brothers about what happened in that club 🤡, a baby left on the doorstep, grownups behaving like little girls...

The whole back and forth with Paige was bipolar. It goes like, we can't do this, but I want to, but I can't, but I will, but I won't again, I definitely will. And that all within the same page 🙄.

Some writing mistakes are just not okay.
His smooth voice does things to my stomach I don’t appreciate because I shouldn’t want him. It’s the wrongest kind of wrong. But my body isn’t getting the memo and is betraying me from every direction.

Writer doesn't seem to know how law firms work, because this would have her fired. Passing a case to the competition because it was inconvenient for you. What a joke. You're working at a firm. You have colleagues who can take over😑.
Last time, a big movie producer used an alias to set up a meeting with me to ask if I would take on his messy and very public divorce.... I turned it down and sent him to Max.

Then there is the mother who appears from absolutely nowhere😶.

3.5 stars I enjoyed them! They had a really good pace with how they started but it did seem to jump a little fast towards the end. I liked their banter and the forbidden aspect of them however what I like the most about the guardian trope is when the love interest interacts with the baby/kid and I felt that was lacking a bit in this one. I wish we got to see a bit more of max with alfie! Loved max and his brothers dynamic and how they didn’t just let him get away with lying to them but also helped him fix his mistake and get back with paige they had true loyalty which I loved! Thank you so much for the ARC!

Breaking His Rules by VH Nicolson
Published by Boldwood Books – thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my gifted ARC.

Let me set the scene: I’m curled up with my Kindle, blanket burrito achieved, fully expecting another billionaire-romance-meets-courtroom-fantasy. You know the type. Brooding alpha male, emotionally unavailable, probably allergic to commitment and vegetables, with abs you could lose your will to live over. But Breaking His Rules didn’t just play the hits—it remixed them. VH Nicolson took every one of my favorite tropes, cranked them up to eleven, and then had the audacity to make me feel things. How dare she.

Max Hart is the kind of man who walks into a room and immediately raises your blood pressure, either because he’s infuriating or too attractive to process. Usually both. He’s rich (of course), powerful (obviously), and has a list of dating rules so emotionally stunted I’m amazed he’s not in therapy… until he meets Paige Bradshaw. Paige is brilliant, ambitious, and frankly, too good for Max’s nonsense—but unfortunately for her (and delightfully for us), she has already slept with him before realizing who he is. Anonymously. In the dark. In a dating event she swore was just a one-time thrill. Plot twist: Max is that guy. Of course he is.

Cue the chaos.

The chemistry between Max and Paige is nuclear. Forget slow burn—this is immediate combustion. Their enemies-to-lovers dynamic is fast-paced, fierce, and full of razor-sharp dialogue. I laughed out loud more than once, especially during their legal sparring, which somehow manages to be both sexy and savage. It’s like Suits, but if Harvey and Donna had unresolved sexual tension, kissed in dark corners, and regularly threatened to ruin each other’s careers while secretly wanting to cuddle. And look, I’m not proud of how much I loved it—but here we are.

Max’s character arc is one of my favorite parts. He starts as your standard-issue billionaire playboy: smug, emotionally unavailable, and swanning around with a tragic backstory and a refusal to commit. But slowly—so slowly you don’t even notice until you’re halfway in—he starts unraveling. And it’s glorious. Watching this man, who thinks he has his life neatly compartmentalized, completely lose his mind over one woman and her kid? Peak content. By the end, I wasn’t even mad about how soft he got. In fact, I was ready to hand him a “Best Book Boyfriend of 2025” sash and let him carry me into the sunset.

And Paige. Oh, Paige. She’s the real MVP here. She’s funny, sharp, fiercely independent, and refreshingly flawed. She doesn’t fall into the usual heroine traps. She makes bad decisions, doubts herself, walks into emotional situations with both eyes open and still trips over her own feelings. She’s real. When she says:

“I’m not going. Maybe I will. Shit. I’m definitely going,”
I felt that. Deeply. That’s not just Paige debating a bad idea. That’s all of us on a Friday night with too much eyeliner and a bottle of wine saying, what’s the worst that could happen?

There’s also a subplot involving Paige’s son Alfie, and let me just say—this book handled the single mom angle like a pro. It wasn’t a throwaway trope. It was tender, grounded, and gave the romance real stakes. Watching Max soften toward Alfie, building a connection that’s more than just a plot device? That’s the stuff that makes your cold, cynical heart thaw. I even found myself getting emotional at parts, and I don’t do sentimental. But VH Nicolson knows how to write with heart and heat—and she doesn’t make you choose.

The spice? Oh honey, it’s not just there. It’s practically its own character. But it never overshadows the emotional core of the story. Every steamy scene drives the relationship forward. It’s desire, yes, but also vulnerability and trust. And some truly elite-level tension. There’s a moment—no spoilers—where Max has to choose, and I actually yelled “DO IT” at my Kindle like it was a horror movie. That’s how invested I was.

And while we’re talking story mechanics, let’s give credit where it’s due: pacing? Perfect. Dialogue? Snappy and real. Secondary characters? Memorable without stealing the spotlight. This is book two in the Billionaire Hart Brothers series, and while you can read it as a standalone, fair warning—you’re going to immediately want to go back and read book one. And then stalk VH Nicolson’s Instagram for updates on book three, because this woman writes like a machine and a magician.

In short, Breaking His Rules is sexy, smart, and surprisingly heartfelt. It’s enemies-to-lovers done right, with characters who make dumb choices for good reasons, and fall for each other in ways that feel messy, earned, and entirely swoon-worthy. It’s about letting go of your rules, facing your fears, and yes—breaking a few hearts along the way. Including your own.

Five glittering, sarcastic, cinnamon-roll-in-disguise stars.

ARC Provided by NetGalley and Boldwood Books in exchange for honest review.

Breaking His Rules is the story of Paige Bradshaw, a stellar divorce lawyer who has an impeccable record but is keeping a secret (she's in the process of adopting her nephew, dumped on her doorstep by her addict sister), and Max Hart, her fiercest rival in the courtroom, who thinks Paige is a ball buster and has very little time for her. But a heated night at an anonymous member's club, with masks in the dark, leads them to discover a different side to each other. Once they realise who the other partner was, they have a choice to make - do they risk their careers and reputations by continuing to hook up - and if they do, what happens if they catch feelings?

Paige Bradshaw is a bombshell in almost all aspects of her life. She is a formidable lawyer who has her rivals quaking in their boots, is a fantastic mum to Alfie, the little boy she didn't expect to find on her doorstep, and she takes no prisoners when she deals with anyone. She is fierce and I love that about her. When her friend insists on them going out to a speed dating event (spoiler alert - not a speed dating event!) she reluctantly agrees, after four years of not having so much as a kiss and being determined that Alfie comes first. Masked and in the dark, she meets Mr Fox, who absolutely rocks her world - so much so, she can't get him out of her head for weeks after. When the penny finally drops that it was Max Hart - the man she thought she hated - she can't seem to stay away from the chase. Despite her constant insistence that they shouldn't do it because it's breaking the rules, she goes back for more, and more, until she's in too deep. After the third act breakup, what I loved about Paige was when she was told her flaws by her friend, she owned them and recognised when she was about to fall prey to them again - she is always prepared to work on herself.

Max Hart... W.O.W. I am not a maternal person, but he makes my ovaries twitch! He starts off as an arrogant, sexy-and-he-knows-it commitment-phobe who absolutely cannot stand Paige Bradshaw. It's been months since he last hooked up with anyone, so when he gets invited to the Masked event at the Member's club, he goes in looking for fun. What he doesn't expect is the force of the connection he feels with the mystery "Bunny". He is desperate to find her again, so hung up on her that he even lists the things he knows about her with his brothers, trying to brainstorm a way to find her. When coincidences start to add up, and he realises Bunny is actually Paige, his opinion of her changes. They're still fierce rivals - but he can't stay away from her, despite the risks to their careers. Once he discovers she has a little boy she's trying to adopt, he finds he quickly connects with him too, totally throwing his own stance at not being a family man on its head. He is absolutely adorable with both of them from that point on, and he falls so hard. As a reader, it is incredibly hard to be angry at him for his actions that lead to the third act breakup - he did it in all good faith and with the best intentions - but you can understand the depth of Paige's anger. His distress at their separation is palpable, and you just want to comfort him.

Initially you think this is going to be a real hate-to-lovers storyline, but actually I think it's more rivals-to-lovers, because the hate has already started to dissipate by the time they discover they were the other partner from the club, even without knowing. The plot is very much centred on the repercussions were they to be caught - and of course they are. That comes after such a high point in their relationship that it leaves you aghast. I love that these characters, so strong in their profession, are so utterly ruined by their feelings for each other that they rip up the rulebook. The plot twist that engineers the breakup was brutal, and the villain, although his actual appearances are brief (thankfully!) is so awful that his comeuppance, whilst lawful, was a little unsatisfactory when you've recently read dark romance and want him to suffer some violence!

The spice is seriously hot in this one - exhibitionism, video calls, hotel rooms, store cupboards - and it's all written well with no cringe moments. Max is an absolute stud who knows how to treat a lady!

Breaking His Rules is a superb rivals-to-lovers romance, with V.H Nicolson showcasing how the right person can utterly transform your life, that your beliefs can be totally changed no matter how long you've held them, and that taking a chance on something you are anxious about could herald the start of something magical. It also reinforces that actions have consequences - but they can be atoned for.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to review this book!

I loved the first book in the series, but after finishing this one, I can definitely say it’s my favorite so far. Max was already an interesting character in the previous book, so I enjoyed reading his story and seeing his interactions with Paige. Their sexual tension was great, and I loved how, after their steamy encounter, they couldn’t keep their hands off each other.

Max and Paige were both divorce lawyers, so they were usually on opposite sides in court. They had been rivals for years, always bickering and riling each other up. Max wasn’t interested in relationships or having kids, and when his brother invited him to a date-in-the-dark event at a sex club, he said no at first, but eventually agreed.

Paige was an independent woman and a lawyer, but her life changed when she had to take care of her sister’s baby. I loved how she did everything she could to give Alfie a good life and make sure they could stay together as a family. Paige had a lot to deal with, so her best friend convinced her they needed a night out. Paige didn’t expect to end up at a sex club having a steamy moment with a stranger.

As fate would have it, Paige and Max ended up in the same club—she as Bunny, and he as Mr. Fox. They shared a passionate moment in the dark, and they planned to meet afterward, but Paige had an emergency and left. They kept thinking about their mysterious partners, but Paige knew she had to focus on Alfie and her job.

Max told his brothers about what happened, and later, when he saw Paige at their firm, he noticed she had some of the same qualities as the mystery girl. He ended up helping her after her sister showed up, and finally understood why Paige was often late to their meetings. They eventually realized they were the same two people from the club, but Paige tried to deny it since she knew nothing serious could happen between them.

Max and Paige tried to fight their feelings, but Max knew things felt different with her and wanted to give them a real chance. Paige was hesitant because of their jobs, but Max didn’t give up until she gave in to their attraction. They shared a lot of steamy moments, and their chemistry was amazing. Paige still tried to resist her feelings, but after everything they shared, she couldn’t deny she wanted more.

I loved reading how Max took care of Paige when she was sick, and how he enjoyed spending time with her and Alfie. He never saw himself as a family man, but it was heartwarming to see how that changed after being with them. Things were going well, and they were ready to tell everyone about their relationship when everything fell apart. Paige only wanted Alfie to be officially hers, but Max—thinking he was helping—asked someone for help without knowing it would hurt the adoption and her job.

Paige was devastated, so she pushed Max away. Max wanted to fix everything, and even though his brothers were upset about his secrets, they still helped him. It was nice to read how they figured everything out and forgave him. Max didn’t hesitate to give Paige the papers she needed so she could finally be sure that she and Alfie would stay a family.

I loved reading Max’s confession of love and how Paige went after him to tell him she loved him too. They had their ups and downs, but it was great to see them work through it and move forward as a family.

This series has been perfect from the start, and I’ve really loved reading about the Hart brothers. I’m excited to read Eli and Cole’s book and see more of their family.

After reading the final page, my immediate thought was a fruition of what this book is trying to convey. It serves as a reminder that success and power are not everything. It's about learning how to hang on when it seems like everything is crumbling.
This book was a welcome diversion from the typical clichés I've been reading lately because it had lawyers as the main characters.

The second book in The Billionaire Hart Brothers Series, Breaking His Rules, explores the thin line that defines rivalry and love. The plot centres on Paige Bradshaw, a perceptive, orderly, and extremely successful divorce lawyer, and Max Hart, one of the top divorce attorneys in the area and Paige's frequent courtroom adversary.

To escape reality, Paige agreed to spend an impromptu evening at a sex club with her best friend. That evening, she went on a masquerade date, where she found herself drawn to a mysterious and memorable stranger who had ignited her burning desire. But when she finds out that Max was the gorgeous stranger she met and kissed that fateful night, their professional rivalry takes an unexpected turn. Lust, desire, and attraction have blurred the lines of forbidden, both falling into a rabbit hole that could jeopardise their careers.

Even though Paige takes pride in her professional skills and meticulous dedication to detail, her persona highlights the challenges and rewards of striking a balance between career, family, and personal fulfillment. She is nevertheless resilient and patient in spite of her worries about her future with her baby. A character that also has a clear message for all working women.
A formidable opponent, Max Hart is known for his affable and astute demeanor in the courtroom. He wears his heart on his sleeve, though, on the inside. Even if it means jeopardizing his career, this man is adamant about achieving what he wants. His devotion to his family and his love for Paige and Alfie faced the greatest test of his life, proving what it takes to take control of the circumstances to tidy up the chaos he had partly caused. He is on my list of 2025's most memorable MMCs because of the remarkable manner in which his character has unwound.

While the plot boasts some razor-sharp dialogue, playful tension, and a delightful mix of romance, humour, and steam, the story thrives on the authenticity of its characters, whose personalities create both conflict and irresistible attraction, offering an enjoyable yet formulaic depiction of love blooming amidst professional rivalry.

The unquestionable and nuclear chemistry between Paige and Max elevates this book even though it relies heavily on the conventional "enemies to lovers" trope. Sparks fly from the first time they've met, anonymously in the dark, and have gradually built up to a combustion. Nope! This is not a slow burn at all! These two delivered some great, sexy, and sizzling moments that will keep you parched.

At its core, Breaking His Law not only blends career ambition, unexpected motherhood, and family. It also highlights the unpredictability and messiness of love, proving that sometimes, the best relationships are the ones we least expect. A perfect book for a cozy night, and also a testament to the power of chemistry.

Receiving a gratis Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this book was an honour, and I'm presenting my candid opinion based on my own experience. I am eternally grateful to VH Nicolson and Boldwood Books for entrusting me with reading this book beforehand.

I loved this book; it soon drew me in & I couldn’t put it down. Max & Paige’s story is sooo spicy, but there is much more to their story than just the spice. I loved both main characters. Paige is a strong, independent woman, trying, as so many women do, to balance her demanding career with being a single mother, & trying to carve out a little time for herself. Max is gorgeous, a fun character but after being badly hurt he’s happy having fun without commitment.

Paige & Max are both highly respected divorce lawyers in San Francisco; they regularly find themselves on opposing teams, sparring and seeming to hate each other. The demands of the job leave little time for either of them to relax, but luckily they each have someone looking out for them. One evening Max’s brother Cole invites Max as his guest at a dark dating event at the Velvet Rooms, an exclusive adult members club; it’s sensual, it’s dark, all guests wear a mask, so no one knows who they are talking to, or touching …. Paige’s best friend Cat who is a member of the Velvet Rooms, arranges a babysitter & takes Paige to the same event. There’s lots of people there, what are the chances of meeting someone you know? Unknowingly they get talking & things progress, they have a very nice time together indeed!! With minimal lighting & wearing a mask, touch & sound convey so much more and you can sense the underlying chemistry - & their pleasure. Some weeks later, when they’ve worked things out, it feels like the lid has been lifted on their friendship & the chemistry between them every time they meet away from work is so hot it’s off the charts! However, to have any kind of relationship whilst both are working on the same case contravenes their professional standards, so they’d be taking a huge risk.

We also discover that beneath the hard professional exterior they each have a softer, caring side. Paige has been taking care of baby Alfie, since his mother (Paige’s sister Marin who is an addict) left him on Paige’s doorstep. Paige is now trying to adopt Alfie as it’s clear Marin will never take care of him. We see Max’s caring side when Paige is ill and he comes to stay & take care of Paige & Alfie; he does such a good job even with Alfie despite his bachelor lifestyle, it’s so endearing.

It’s been such a hot & sensual read, but also a great story. There’s lots of twists & turns along the way as Paige & Max get to know each other, & work out what they each want & need from each other & from life. I loved them both, & found myself willing them on, hoping they would work things out. I loved that each of them had someone in their corner. Paige had such a good friendship with best friend Cat, whilst Max had his brothers. I loved the hilarious banter between the four brothers & the way the brothers were there for each other when it mattered. It’s been a great read, I loved the good story & now I can’t wait for the next in the series.

Thanks to Netgalley & Boldwood Books for the opportunity to read an early copy of this book.

Vicki has yet again whipped up a breathtaking story of the Hart brothers. This book focuses on Max and Paige, both divorce lawyers on opposing sides. What was supposed to be an anonymous night of "dating" in the dark, ends up with them spending an explosive encounter together 💥

Max doesn't do feelings, commitments nor marriage. That life isn't for him and he vows to stay true to his M.O. However, the night he spent with his 'Bunny' is so fiercely embedded into his brain that he simply can't let go of her. Who is she?

Paige only has one goal now and it's to be able to finally adopt her nephew, Alfie - abandoned one day by her sister on her doorstep. When she's coaxed out one night by her bestie to let loose, the last thing she envisioned was hooking up with a mystery man. It was nothing like she's ever experienced before - the memories alone that will keep her warm on a cold night 🤫

However, things get interesting when Max finally puts the puzzle pieces together on who his mystery woman is. Not only is he shocked that he knows her, she's also someone he works 'closely' with - someone that's been right in front of him all along.

In what was meant to be a random hook up, Max can't deny that Paige - his mystery woman- is the one he craves. She stirs something in him, making him want more than just situationships with no future. Max thinks one night will get it out of their systems, but the more time they spend together, the deeper he starts falling.

I seriously love a MMC who falls first and hard. Max was just a dream... Someone who was adamant that couldn't and wouldn't do love, who ultimately tried their 'best' to put up a fight but inevitably fell for the FMC, Paige and little Alfie. Let's just say I absolutely adored Max and Paige together. They definitely brought out the best in each other and Max became someone Paige could rely on. Instead of fighting battles herself, he was in her corner cheering her on. However, Alfie stole the show with his cuteness and I loved how Max was a natural with him.

Max and Paige's love was seriously unmatched and I suspect my kindle was threatening to melt from their intense chemistry. Y'all best get your fans ready coz it's definitely heating up in here!! 🥵🌶️🔥

The banter and love between the brothers is also one of the things I love throughout this series (those group texts!!!!!). The Hart brothers are just as thick as thieves and I wouldn't have it any other way! 💕

Definitely recommend to those who love a enemies to lovers, workplace romance, and when the MMC swears he doesn't do love, but ends up falling head over heels anyways 😂😂

Thank you to Vicki, Boldwood Books and Netgalley for the eARC, in exchange for an honest review 🫶🏻

Breaking His Rules by VH Nicolson is a steamy billionaire romance that combines forbidden tension, secret encounters, and heartfelt growth. 💼🔥🐇

Max, a powerful divorce lawyer who swears he’ll never fall in love, finds his rules tested when he collides with Paige, another lawyer on the opposite side of a messy case. Their professional rivalry makes them off-limits, but the pull between them is undeniable. Paige, a single mom secretly raising her son Alfie, dreams of opening her own firm while juggling family struggles — struggles Max unexpectedly helps her shoulder.

Their chemistry is magnetic from the start. A dark, masked night at a sex club sparks their connection, with Max as the wolf and Paige as the bunny. The anonymity adds a thrilling edge, and when they later discover each other’s identities, the tension only deepens. From secret hotel meetings to FaceTime heat, from possessive dirty talk to tender caretaking when Paige is sick, Max proves he’s both dominant and devoted. I adored the way he slowly let down his guard, even as she pushed through her fears of opening up again after years without intimacy.

The side characters make the story even richer — Cat as Paige’s hilarious best friend, and Max’s brothers Nathan, Eli, and Cole adding layers of banter and intrigue. The plot twists, the third-act heartbreak, and finally the healing happy ending kept me hooked until the last page.

If you love:
✨ Billionaire forbidden romance
✨ Rival lawyers-to-lovers
✨ Single mom heroines
✨ Dominant MMCs who secretly fall hard
✨ Masked club scenes + spicy tension

…this book delivers in every way. Breaking His Rules left me swooning, and now I’m desperate for Eli and Sapphire’s story. 💫

Salacious, sexy, and tantalizingly tense!

Max and Paige often find themselves as opposing counsel in the stickiest cases. As divorce attorneys at the top of their game they live in a high-stress, high stakes world so why would their personal-professional lives look any different? They're almost rivals - working for different law firms - and are the definition of 'off limits' to each other. The sexual tension between these two would snap with just the lightest tap of the gavel. And after a fateful encounter everything changes for Paige and Max.

The workplace romance and forbidden relationship is executed with just the right amount of tension. You'll feel just as nervous about getting caught as they do. The suspense of their romance is juxtaposed by the incredibly tender pull of emotional attachment as Paige and Max realize their connection is more than snarky comments and snappy digs.

Powerful, immovable men become devastating as their resolve crumbles in the face of love. As he confronts what his life could be like if he would just change - or break - his rules. Nicolson makes Max irresistible, and Paige (nor the reader) will ever want to give him up. And the strain between these two makes you shake with frustration that they withhold their feelings. But will the gentle touches and deep intimate bond be enough to convince Paige that he's moved beyond his bachelor ways? Will Max be everything she and Alfie need?

Thank you to Boldwood Books, VH Nicolson, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this unforgettable story - one where listening to your heart throws your life into turmoil and takes you places you never dreamed you'd go.

The quotes in this book are epic. I absolutely loved these two. Their chemistry right off the bat is electric and just keeps on going.

"She may look like a fucking goddess, but she's so detached and emotionally shut off, I'm sure she eats the hearts of small children for supper."

Max and Paige are both very successful lawyers, with her having the reputation of being so ruthless men are scared of her. I love it. Paige is put in a situation where she unexpectedly becomes a single parent and has to figure out how to handle that life curveball. I felt so bad for her with how she had to consider how to juggle her career with parenthood. I liked how the author approached this because this is a realistic thing that happens every day so you can understand her feelings.

When Max finds out that Paige was the one in the mask, he relentlessly pursues her. Again, she was in the position of having to juggle her career or her feelings. Once again, something a woman in the workplace often sees. He tried to be very understanding of this, and after he unintentionally messes up with something that affects her career, he works hard to fix it for her.

The spice was there and I loved how he went from being an intentionally unattached playboy to all in.

"Regardless of what she says, we're far from done. Not even close because in the few weeks, the Youngs' divorce will be finalized and then, little bunny, you better fucking have your sneakers ready, because I'm coming for you"

Okay, this book was such a blast to read. This is one of those stories that hooks you from the very first chapter with the “oh crap, it’s YOU?!” reveal, and then just keeps piling on the tension, sass, and heat. The whole setup...Geez, Paige unknowingly hooks up with her courtroom rival Max in a “dating in the dark” thing. Once they realize who the other person is? Whew!!

Max and Paige are such a fun couple. Their banter had me grinning the whole way through. It’s sharp and snarky. I loved watching them try to outsmart and out argue each other, both in and out of the courtroom, all while fighting the fact that they can’t stay away. Let’s be honest, the attraction between them is freaking crazy.

Paige is such a solid heroine. She’s smart, ambitious, and doesn’t just roll over when Max pushes her buttons. Add in the fact that she’s a single mom, and suddenly this story has so much more heart. The relationship between Paige and Alfie made me love her even more. She’s fierce about protecting him while still trying to figure out what she wants for herself. Watching Max slowly warm up to Alfie...Yep, that got me right in the feels. I love when a supposedly cold, untouchable hero just can’t help but let someone in.

Oh, Max. He starts out as this cocky, playboy type who thinks he’s untouchable, the kind of guy who lives by a ridiculous set of “rules” to avoid commitment. He falls hard. I loved every second.

Some of the miscommunication dragged on a bit too long. There were definitely moments where I was like, “Guys. TALK. Just say the thing out loud already.” Even when I was frustrated, I couldn’t stop reading because it was that great!

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC read. This review is completelymy honest opinion.

“What started out between us turned into something I didn’t see coming.”

This is Max's book and the 2nd in the Billionaire Hart Brother's Series. As I expected it would be, this was great!!

Max doesn't do commitment. He works hard and plays harder. He loves fast cars and his freedom to do as he pleases.

Paige is Max's workplace rival. She is a brilliant divorce lawyer but is trying to find the balance between work and family. She has no time for herself, never mind a man. That is until her friend makes her take a night off, just a little speed dating fun… with a twist. What could go wrong. It's a night that goes oh so deliciously well that Paige expects will just become a fun memory. But she doesn't realise yet who her mystery ‘Mr Fox’ was.

Two strangers, and one date in the dark, starts a chain of events that leads to Max and Paige breaking all the rules.
Their chemistry is undeniable from the start, and their banter is hilarious. Max falling hard and fast was quite unexpected, but he really starts to show his caring, family side, as Paige continuously tries to fight her attraction and draw to him.

Both of these characters are tough and fierce. But the more time they spend together, the more the masks slip, and we see each of their vulnerable sides. Opening up to each other about the things they want in life and what they fear.

This is hot and spicy, with some sweet thrown in. We also have Max's brothers, giving us a glimpse of Nathan's life with Arianna and a sneak of what's to come with Book 3 (Eli).

Breaking His Rules is Book two in the Billionaire Hart series. I really enjoyed book one, but this one is perfection.
Our introductions to both Max and Paige are when they meet in Max’s office to discuss their mutual client’s divorce proceedings. Max, already seething with Paige for being late (again), doesn’t go down well, and Paige is not forthcoming with a good reason as to why.
Max is invited to “Dating in the Dark” by his brother. He initially can’t think of anything worse, but with no plans, he finally relents and goes. As for Paige, her friend forces her hand, but she is horrified when they arrive at a Sex Club, she only relents and goes in when assured it’s extremely private with elite membership levels.
Inside, they are given masks to wear. No surprise when it’s Max she meets. They share a very hot night, but when they agree to meet outside without masks, Paige receives an emergency call and has to leave. Max can’t get her name from the hostess as it’s against the rules, so now starts the waiting game for his “bunny” to make the next move.
We then move on one month. Max is giving up hope until his brothers start joining the dots he’s not pieced together. When he sees her UV ankle tattoo, he realises who she is, and now he can’t get her out of his head. When Max goes out of his way to help her with a family emergency, she also pieces together it could be him. He’s happy to confirm her suspicions.
Both know they can’t start anything with each other. Their conflict of interests could lose them their jobs or even being disbarred.
These aren’t spoilers, just an elaboration of the synopsis. Their secret hotel rendezvous were so hot. What was supposed to be a naughty secret got out of hand very quickly. They have such a connection, and no matter what Paige could do, she couldn’t and didn’t want to stay away from him.
As for Max, wow, when this man decides what he wants, he’s one determined and very hot go-getter! The things this man does for her just melt my heart. Even when he oversteps, it’s only to protect her.
I don’t want to give any spoilers, but the last 10-15% of this book is incredible. I will absolutely be re-reading this again 💕💕💕
Thank you NetGalley, VH Nicolson, and Boldwood Books for the ARC, all opinions expressed are my own.

What can I say about the FMC Paige and the MMC Max? Professionally they work on the opposite teams as divorce Lawyers that can hash out the best settlements for their wealthy clients. Both are at the top of their game. But on a personal level, they hate each other. Is it that the hate is masking desire?

Paige- Great FMC- beautiful, fierce, independent and sassy.
Max- Roguish, womanising and arrogant as hell but underneath it all, he wants love!

This is book 2 of the Billionaire Hart brothers series however I haven’t read the first one and can confidently say this could be read as a standalone book. It’s an extremely spicy and enjoyable romance read. The balance between the romance story and the spice is perfect. I loved the FMC and MMC. Paige is aloof and standoffish, almost a little cold and certainly immune to Max’s charm (or so she thought?). Max is a womanising rich boy that works hard and plays harder but I loved his soft and caring side.

The night at the anonymous sex club is 🥵🥵🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ off the scale spice and will leave you feeling more than just hot under the collar. Wow 🤌🏻

The dynamics between them as they search for their anonymous match in the sex club and continue to work alongside each other is pure entertainment. I became so invested in how they would eventually come to realise who their match was, to the extent that I literally couldn’t put the book down.

I was thoroughly invested in the romance between these two, an absolutely fantastic read which I blitzed through very quickly!
