HITTING THE BIG TIME…

Katie Ferraro’s scrappy unit, the Fox Patrol, has finally made it… sort of. As part of a co-op mercenary unit called The Lone Wolves, they find themselves in the Hinterlands, hiring out to the Alyina Mercantile League—former Jade Falcon Merchants who have split from the Clan to strike out on their own.

Suffering from the culture shock of being in Clan space and working with seasoned professionals, the tightly-knit family of the Fox Patrol has a lot to learn about working as part of a larger group…and with each other, as Katie learns to her chagrin. Making matters worse, Arkee Colorado and Evan Huxley, the two longest serving members, find that their relationship may not be as strong as they thought as jealousy threatens to tear them apart.

Also included in this collection are two bonus stories! “Merry Foxmas” tells the story of Katie Ferraro trying to get the unit presents for the holiday and anything that can go wrong does. And “Jade Foxes,” a brand-new story documenting the Fox Patrol’s exploits during the Battle of Sudeten.

Katie Ferraro is the leader, if you can say leader, of the five-‘Mechs unit, the Fox Patrol. She has wanted to create her own unit since she was young, even though most of her team are older than she is. It is making life not so much harder, but definitely different. This has only increased since they signed up with Albert Hewidegger, the leader of the mercenary collective known as Lone Wolf.

I was given a copy of BattleTech: Lone wolf and Fox by the author for review purposes.

Lone Wolf and Fox is a collection of several stories about the Fox Patrol. They take place after the last book written by Bryan Young, VoidBreaker, and gives the reader a greater insight to this group of five ‘Mech pilots, some of the other members of the Fox Patrol, and their dealings with other groups, including Lone Wolf and the Alyina Merchant League.

You can read this book as a stand-alone collection and don’t need to have read the previous books, or larger history of the BattleTech Universe.

Bryan Young delivers another great book of BattleTech story telling.

For BattleTech fans there is information on the ‘Mechs and tactics. There is information for each story and broader BattleTech information and history (this allows everyone to find the information the characters refer to without having to know it from reading the larger catalog first). This also continues the timeline of events that Young has been writing about in this setting.

The characters are given depth to show they are more than the technology they use. Each becomes a person dealing with their personal and greater issues. They are shown to work through their fears and shortcomings. These are not characters that never falter, but ones who become greater because of their weaknesses and how they grow with them.

When I first picked up Lone Wolf and Fox I didn’t realize it was a collection, that was a pleasant surprise. By having a novella and a couple of shorter stories bound in one cover I was able to witness the members of Fox Patrol in more than one situation. They grow as a team, building friendships with old members and new ones. They also grow as individuals which was enjoyable to read through.

The character aspects of this book make it more accessible to those who may have some interest in military sci-fi, or a good one to introduce new readers to the genre.

I recommend BattleTech: Lone Wolf and Fox to fans of BattleTech, and to those who thought it would be interesting, but unwilling to look further because of the heavy tech and battle aspects of the genre.

Gotta give it a zero stars. Racist and homosexuality....... Woke not Battletech

Bryan Young is just another woke author destroying a 30 years of incredibly strong storyline a d heritage. Now we deal with racism and homosexuality as story line, disgusting.
The Clans NEVER JUDGED ANYONE on the color of their skin, true proof the future holder content of character and personal accomplishments above the tint of a persons skin.... But Bryon can't write without bringing racism in.... So fired.
Even worse men married to men. Absolutely NO PLACE IN BATTLETECH!!!! 45 books written and Bryon still Has to use wokeism to try to sell us his poor story. No one wants to read this trash. Reads the first 50+ books and NOWHERE IS THERE HOMOSEXUALITY OR RACISM.
THANKS BYRON for failing completely.
