But perhaps Lon can risk opening his heart again and hoping for a brighter future. Casey has some pretty big skeletons in his past to deal with. And Lon wonders what Casey will do when he finds out how badly Lon failed at protecting the ones he loved eight years ago.

Renae Kaye is a lover and hoarder of books who thinks libraries are devilish places because they make you give the books back. She consumed her first adult romance book at the tender age of thirteen and hasn’t stopped since. After years – and thousands of stories! – of not having book characters do what she wants, she decided she would write her own novel and found the characters still didn’t do what she wanted. She believes that the world is too complicated for her, so she loses herself in stories. The only thing that keeps her going are her children who are the delight of her life.

Renae lives in Perth, Western Australia. She is a survivor of being the youngest in a large family and believes that laughter (and a good book) can cure anything. Which is why it's a pity laughter is sometimes scarce on the ground.

Kaye pushes boundaries with this book. While it's filled with the author's trademark humour and sweetness, it's darker and grittier than her previous work and deals with issues of past physical and sexual abuse.

When big, musclebound Lon, who works in the mines of Western Australia, catches slim, pretty Casey eyeing him in the showers, he tells him to fuck off or suck his cock. Casey chooses the latter.

From the beginning, Lon and Casey have undeniable chemistry. Even though Lon doesn't want to be anyone's Dom, he likes taking care of Casey, and Lon makes Casey feel safe and protected.
Casey leaned back so he could stare into Lon's brown eyes. "Anywhere is safe as long as it's with you. I just need your arms around me, and I can take on the world."

Lon works hard and comes home to the Aussie equivalent of a trailer park. He is a bit bristly and alone, save for his best friend Paul. Nearly a decade before, a family tragedy changed Lon's life forever, and he blames himself for the horrific turn of events.

Casey's father is a monster. He hurt Casey, but Casey refuses to be a victim. He's still afraid, still jumpy, but he's also giving and more than capable of love.

The writing in this book is superb. Kaye's prose is engaging, witty, and evocative.

The secondary characters are well developed, and the mystery of what happened to Lon's family is a quiet thread in the story.

I particularly liked Casey's friends Devon and Ash (surely their tale must be told? *bats eyelashes innocently*), as well as Lon's brash but kind friend Paul, who is in love with a married man.

But what really elevates this book is the strong, supportive relationship between the MCs.

Besides a singular incident where Lon becomes unfairly angry at Casey, these two are each other's rock. Casey finds someone he can trust, and Lon has someone to whom he can come home.

The age difference (Casey is almost 20 to Lon's 33) is an interesting juxtaposition considering Casey's background. And even though there is plenty of sweet, HAWT sex in this book, there is nothing kinky about Lon and Casey's love.

My only issue is that the character of Olivia is introduced rather abruptly and Olivia's present-day drama takes over the last bit of the book. The last two chapters feel slightly rushed, with too much summarizing of major events.

I was also a little unnerved by Ronnie and Olivia's relationship, and wasn't sure I entirely trusted Ronnie. But family is often messy and complicated, and I can't fault Lon for his love.

The ending is a beautiful HEA. These men find such JOY in being together.

And who cares about having your own pillow when you have your own man?
"A heart is an amazing item. My heart's been bruised, battered, smashed, and stabbed. Yet it still beats in my chest . . .
It can still love. It still hopes and dreams."

"I only need two things for my safe house. One of them hangs from your right shoulder, and the other one hangs from your left shoulder.”

I really, really liked this.

Because it featured a few things that really I love.

1) The Man Lovin'...Obviously

description

Love.

It.

description

2) The Age Gap

I loooooooove age gaps.

LOVE THEM.

I don't even care if one of the characters is under age.

description

That's right, I said it.

Because I am shameless, bitchy and skanky?

Maybe.

But more importantly...

Because it's fucking FICTION, people.

And because I am NOT the Morality Police.

description

Now, this scenario does not apply here, as neither Lon nor Casey are underage, but I'm just saying.

Now, I'm NOT suggesting I want to read about a grown ass man and a 12 year old.

Because that would be CHILD PORN.

So put your lynch devices down.

I'm saying the occasional 17 year old doesn't make me pull out my figurative GR pulpit and soap box ya'll to fucking death.

But anytocatchapredator, moving on.

3) One Character Protects the Other

description

description

Whoops, wrong movie.

But still.

Le sigh.

Anyswoon, as the title suggests, Lon makes Casey feel protected and safe enough to face his demons head on.

A few times in the book, Casey runs to Lon and clings to him - literally - because it makes him feel safe.

And I always love this trope.

It gives this cold little soul the warm and fuzzies.

Something else I enjoyed about this book?

All the fun stuff I learned about Australia.

I will definitely read more from this author.

Oh Casey....

There really wasn't a time when I didn't want to just hug him! His abusive past broke my heart.

And Lon was a giant teddy bear!

He was able to give Casey what he needed the most....security, love and stability.

This story could have gone in several directions leading to unnecessary drama and angst. And it didn't. At all.

This was perfectly sweet. Perfectly swoon-worthy. Perfectly drama free. And perfectly sexy.

“Safe in His Arms” was a little different from the other books I’ve read by this author and it deals with more real, serious issues.

Lon is a mine-worker, working weeks away from home. He has no family, no wife, no kids, no boyfriend. A long time ago he had a family, but something happened and Lon blames himself for his family tragedy. Casey is a survivor. He is still damaged, even if the event that damaged him happened five years ago. He was hurt by someone who was supposed to take care of him and to love him. He’s not healed completely, having anxiety attacks and nightmares. The fear is still there. If Lon is huge like a bear, Casey is thin and somehow fragile.

Lon and Casey meet in the caravan park showers. What was supposed to be one night only becomes more when Casey needs a place to sleep, finding comfort in Lon’s arms. One night is not enough, so Casey starts spending his days and nights with Lon.

description

I liked Lon and Casey’s relationship from the beginning and how everything progressed. Yes, it progressed a little too fast, but it didn’t bother me, because they are perfect for each other. I smiled so many times reading about them. It was a very cute read and despite Casey’s past it wasn’t dark at all.

I loved both main characters and I liked how they were developed, especially Casey. I really felt for him and I liked the fact he is strong and he wants to move on, working, taking classes, making his own decisions. He knows he is a victim and it’s not his fault for what happened with him. He just wants to be safe, and cared and loved. Casey loves to be with Lon. He never felt so safe. Short after they met, Lon becomes Casey’s safety. For five years, he wanted to be normal and not to be treated like a victim. Lon is different from anyone else, he asks him what he wanted and needed. I love that about Lon.

Lon is perfect. Even if he’s huge, he’s like a teddy bear, at least with Casey. He is caring and loving, he wants and needs to protect Casey in every way and from everyone. I loved his tender side and how he called Case “Casey-love”. Casey brings only sweetness and light and Lon’s life and for the first time in years he lives not only exists. He’s also a great son and brother. I loved their connection and their chemistry.

There’s more than ten years between Lon and Casey, but it didn’t bother me at all. It wasn’t weird in any way. The secondary characters are great – Casey’s grandmother, Casey’s friends and Lon’s friend, Paul.

What I didn’t like was how some events are only mentioned, not presented in the end, so everything felt a little rushed. Also, I didn’t understood why all this drama with Lon’s sister, Olivia.

Overall, a great read, low in angst with endearing characters and fantastic writing!

I’ve read a couple Renae Kaye books to date and I do have to say that I quite enjoy her writing. She crafts a good story and the Australian backdrop that she tends to use is always a favorite of mine. I could probably say she’s a new go-to author for me.

Safe in His Arms, however, was not my favorite of her books. It wasn’t bad. Decently interesting characters, some intriguing plot twists, a base of a story that could be very engaging. I think the problem was that it didn’t feel completed sussed out…it felt disjointed and not entirely explored and ultimately, though it wasn’t bad, it wasn’t great either...at least for me, it just didn't hit the mark.

Lon is a mine-worker who spends life working weeks away from home and then weeks on a caravan park living in his trailer. He’s a HUGE man with tons of family baggage, yet manages to be kind and friendly and likable. I’m drawn to the type of character that wants to take care of everyone…makes people feel safe…like home. That’s Lon.

Lon meets Casey in the caravan park showers. They eye each other and realize there’s a spark of attraction. Eventually their one night tryst turns into many nights. And despite their large age difference, they fit. They fit namely because, as mentioned, Lon takes care of people and Casey, having faced unspeakable abuse as a young teen, needed taking care of.

The relationship itself was interesting and though I wasn’t entirely comfortable at how quickly it progressed, I liked them together.

As the story went on, Casey did begin to wear on me a bit. He’s young and immature at times, needy and whiny, and I sometimes felt Lon could do better, like Casey was taking advantage of him. Not malicioulsy...just irritatingly. But I like that Lon has someone to take care of and feed that part of his nature.

I guess the real failure of this book, for me, was there was SO MUCH to deal with…family members in prison, adoptions, sexual abuse, suspicious friendships, closeted married men, a missing sister, a brutal storm, a May-December romance, therapy sessions…and on and on and on…but none of it really got settled. Now, if the author’s intention is to make this into a series, I might be convinced to keep reading. Otherwise, it felt like a lot of parts thrown together within Casey & Lon's story.

All in all, it’s a decent contemporary but not one I’d jump up and down to recommend immediately.

Cute 19 year old twink Casey meets hairy bear Lon at the showers in the trailer park where they both live.

When Lon drags his tired butt out of the shower he gets stared at by the cutest twink he ever saw. But he is in no mood for rude stares, so he jokes that if the kid wants to stare at his dick, he better get on his knees or leave him alone.

Casey is sure he won the jackpot when the big hairy man turns out to be gay. So he gladly gets on his knees.

After the spectacular blowjob and handjob, Casey doesn't want to go back to his grandma's trailer. Lon somehow makes him feel safe, when he hasn't felt safe for years.

The two unexpectedly hit it off, and soon Casey is spending more time at Lon's trailer than at his grandmother's. But Lon is worried Casey is too young and too traumatized by a past of abuse to make healthy relationship decisions...

I really loved this. Casey was sweet and quite a happy person despite his past. And Lon was the perfect protector. I loved the hurt/comfort in this, but I also loved how Casey wasn't afraid to go after what he wanted when Lon was afraid he would hurt him.

The ending was a little rushed, but overall this was a great comfort read.

I really enjoyed Loving Jay (3.7 stars) just a few days ago. It felt like a pretty good decision to return to Perth, Australia once again. — And it was worth a second visit.

“... good touch and bad touch.”

Safe in His Arms is charming, cute, amusing fun but also added with some more "heavy" topics about scars, heartbreaking angst from abuse and family matters. Scary memories, but always told and handled in a nice way. I remember someone wrote in a review that maybe there are slightly too many different issues and topics in this book. I'm inclined to agree, but other than that was Safe in His Arms a wonderful (not "the same old") romance read. Lovely interesting men in a lovely a bit different story with a lovely grand HEA end.

Kaye's prose is not my frosty glass of Carlton Draught, but there's still lots to appreciate in here: sex-positive portrayals of older adults, families who work through their problems, an Aussie setting, and a couple who argue then apologize and promise to do better next time.

Plus I do have a special affection for books with manual workers as MCs. White collar jobs get way too much focus in romances.

This author is amazing! I loved The Shearing Gun, which was the first book of hers I read and I loved this one, too. They are two completely different books. The Shearing Gun was light, funny and really sweet, while this one was darker and dealt with more serious issues, but it still had some sweetness and humor to make me even happier.

Lon and Casey had both been through so much. It was hard to imagine having the lives either of them had, but it also made them more believable as a couple. I couldn't believe what Casey had been through because of his asshole father and Lon's family story was heartbreaking itself.

There is an age difference between the two guys that would put people off, but it really did seem to work here. Lon was just what Casey needed and vice versa. I thought they made a perfect couple and I was really hoping for a happy ending for them, which I got. It was perfect. It was definitely a HEA that made me feel happy inside.

The secondary characters were good. Casey's grandmother worried me for a while, but she was good and I could see where she was coming from, sort of. And there are some characters I could see getting their own story (which would be awesome.

I'm so glad I found this author because I think I will enjoy everything she writes. There's just something about her books so far that makes me think I've found another auto-buy author and I can't wait to read her other two books, which I'm sure will be equally amazing.

I’m a big fan of Renae’s Shearing Gun and couldn’t wait for this new novel to come out. The cover…. I’m a sucker for sexy covers… is an eye catcher par excellence and the blurb intrigued me from the start.

Safe in his Arms is definitely a story of differences. Lon, a mine-worker is a big, muscular, hairy guy and 13 years older than 20 years old Casey who first seems to be the typical twink. But once you get to know him you learn quickly that he is an old soul. Used and sexual abused from his pedophile father when he was just 14 years old he’s a surviver, he simply refuses to break, he just wants to live, love and be loved back.
“A heart is an amazing item. My heart’s been bruised, battered, smashed, and stabbed. Yet it still beats in my chest. And do you know the most amazing thing? It can still love. It still hopes and dreams. It still beats rapidly when that certain person is in the room. It still dares to put its trust in another. If your heart’s broken, Paul, then don’t give up. Never give up, because your heart won’t.”

Lon is a born protector and exactly the man Casey feels safe with, in the arms of the bear with the soft heart he can defy the world. Of course Lon carries his own burdens, his brother is in prison, and he feels responsible for the death of his family 8 years ago.

Well, what can I say? It was spectacular, wonderful, I was moved beyond words by the power of the story, it was simply amazing! I laughed with Casey and Lon, I cried with them, I pushed with them through their struggles. The things they have to endure are heartbreaking and at times I didn't know if they could get over it. But leave it to Renae to bring it all together seamlessly.

The supporting characters are just as lovable and wonderful as the main couple. Ash and Devon are just hilarious, truly wonderful guys. And I loved Paul, what a loyal friend to Lon.
He received the evil eye from Paul for his trouble. “Fine,” Paul sulked. “You all can be pissy on my happiness parade. But I know that somehow it’s going to work out.”
“Won’t,” Casey retorted.
“Will,” Paul denied.
“Won’t.”
“Bitch,” Paul said without any venom.
“Slut,” Casey said.
“Cow.”
“Homewrecker.”

The only critizm I have is the ending. Well, not the ending itself but the last 30 pages. What happens here feels rushed, it’s so tightly packed with informations… everything that happens so late in the story could have filled easily a part of a second book. I felt kind of thrown out of my reading rhythm and the story lost a tiny bit of its sparkle.

Overall, the writing style was entertaining and the story was touching. Renae can rock the socks off a blank piece of paper. With Safe in his Arms she assured us that life can be bitter, abusive, sad and brutal, but hey, if we take a closer look we might see a silver lining on the horizon. It's never too late to hope, to love, to find the one true soulmate.

I’ll definitely look forward to more stories from Renae Kaye.

I liked this book, but there were to many things happening at the same time, and I got lost in so many events... It would be much better if the story was focused more in Lon and Casey's life. Instead, there was Casey's friends, Lon's friends, their families, weather disasters... well, too much! Probably the author is preparing a sequel, and used this book for introductions, but I think the reader gets too much information to process.

But I loved the main story, how Lon met Casey, and how their relationship developed! I felt truly sad for what happened to Casey, and I was really glad that he found Lon! Lon needed someone to take care of, as much Casey needed someone to take care of him! In spite their age gap, they were amazing together (and hot... so hot!!!)

Quite disappointing this time around. Dropped two stars and I feel I could drop one more ..A book that has good bones and interesting story but done really bad and in a crass, simplistic and unrefined way . The dialogues are embarrassing and cringey and it also lacks the proper sensitivity the heavy subject needed.

"A heart is an amazing item. My heart's been bruised, battered, smashed, and stabbed. Yet it still beats in my chest. And do you know the most amazing thing is? It can still love. It still hopes and dreams."

Oh I'm now a total Renae Kaye fan. Her books just make me all warm and gooey and I honestly feel like I've gotten a hug after reading them.

'Safe in His Arms' is a bit darker than 'The Shearing Gun' or 'Loving Jay' but it is just as lovely and there is healing as well as loving going on.

My biggest issue with this was the POV jumping. As I've said about 50 million times before I adore dual POV but sometimes it just doesn't work and one of those times is when it hops about willy-nilly. At first it seemed the POV changes would happen by chapter. I like that as you know who you are getting each chapter. Then it seemed to change to paragraph, but the POV hop was clear, so I shrugged and just got on with it. But then it started happening during a paragraph and I wasn't sure who's head I was in. It would start with Lon and end with Casey and I just got confused and it really did take away from my enjoyment.

But all in all Lon and Casey and their friends were still wonderful and yes it was fluffy and in no way realistic but I don't care about that because I loved them both and their love was like a big hug and Lon was a big muscley teddy bear who was so sweet he almost made me cry. The Casey-loves were a bit much but still. Don't care. I love him.

"Lon?"
"Yeah"
"I'm gonna be the best damn boyfriend you ever had."
"Casey? I think you already are."

I also need to start reading blurbs again because I honestly thought there would be a boxer in this, it's the very hot man on the covers fault.

4.5★’s - Casey hands down made this book for me. How he could even be the way he was after the life he was handed astounded me. He was like a ray of sunshine when he should have really been nothing but clouds.

Although the subject matter of this book was much darker than I would normally like I felt it was described in a manner that I was able to read it and move on to the happy. I didn’t have to relive the trauma, I didn’t have to deal with a nasty villain, I was just told the facts so I would know what happened, understand it and move on. I thank the author for her ability to rip the band-aid off and move on to the good. And good it was.

This was a beautiful story about two people finding exactly what they needed even though they didn’t necessarily know they did. It was straightforward, honest, strong and sweet.

This is the 4th book I have read by Renae Kaye and the 4th book I have loved. She is definitely a winner in my book.

Safe in His Arms was a very intriguing read. I have to say that I was already hooked after reading the blurb:

In the late-night quiet of the caravan park shower room, Lon Taylor washes away the filth of the Western Australian mines. He’s not looking for anyone, but when Casey offers, Lon doesn’t turn him down.

Welcoming the young man in his big, hairy arms, Lon provides a safety to Casey that he has never known, and Casey wants to stay forever. Still reeling from the breakup of his family years ago, Lon’s not sure he’s ready for the responsibility of the comfort and security Casey craves.

But perhaps Lon can risk opening his heart again and hoping for a brighter future. Casey has some pretty big skeletons in his past to deal with. And Lon wonders what Casey will do when he finds out how badly Lon failed at protecting the ones he loved eight years ago.

This was my first m/m romance playing in Australia - as far as I remember - and Lon's work sounded quite interessting to me. We didn't get much to read about Lon's worklife on itself, but I really liked the setting and the informations we got about life in a caravan park in Australia.

And I love reading about big, strong guys protecting their younger partners from time to time and the dynamics between Lon and Casey are very interessting. It wasn't too easy, but we didn't have too much drama neither. It felt real and I was really suffering with the guys. I liked the way the secrets of their past were unfold. We didn't get the whole story immediately and I didn't see all the twists and turns coming, so it was a very entertaining read.

I would have loved the read a sequel about these two, but sometimes you have to live with stand-alones too! 4 stars! I will definitly keep looking out for books by this author!

There were pieces that had me in tears and I struggled to breath... then there were pieces that made me laugh to loud. I loved it

"Devon? That's a weird name. It sounds like something you'd name a cow. I guess that it's just because of Devondale milk. Weird."... "It comes from the area in England called Devon. You know? Like Devonshire tea?" Lon nodded sagely. "Huh. Lucky for you they didn't call you after Shropshire. We would be calling you Shroppy.".... "Or Stroppy"

What made this book so special for me was the fact that after both of them had gone through already in life they survived they made it no matter the shape no matter the method they just kept moving... until they found each other and after all the sadness they found love and hope and peace.

Love it!! I could tell just by reading the book description that I was going to enjoy this book. I have a think for big protective alpha male bears. Throw in a cute and vulnerable twink and I'm a goner. I loved how they met in the caravan park shower room. Casey is just adorable... "Can I take option A?" Yep, I fell in love with him right there! Such a sweet, sexy and emotional story. I loved this one. Both MC's were really likeable. My heart broke for Casey...he had to endure so much and he still came out so sweet and loving.

Lon was perfect for him !! Such a big sweet teddybear !!!

This book does deal with some hard subjects..such as rape and abuse. Some parts were heartbreaking to read about. But then again..some parts were so beautiful and sweet...and those parts really made it worth reading this book. I also loved the age difference in this book. Normally it's not something I'm into perse, but for this story..it worked really well.

Eventough there are sensitive subjects in this one...it was still very nice on the steamy side.

4,5 stars from me !!!

certain person is in the room. It still dares to put its trust in another. If your heart's broken, Paul, then don't give up.
Never give up, because your heart won't."

------------------------------

This quote pretty much sums up the book. It was a great and sweet story, actually, despite the harsh and troubled history of both main characters.
I was a bit apprehensive, since I had an impression from reading Dani's review that "it's darker and grittier than her [author] previous works". But I was surprised! I didn't think it was dark at all. It was light, humorous and angst lacking.

Casey is funny and adorable, even if he deals with reactions after having been The subject is a very serious and uncomfortable one, but the author deals with it in a great way. It shares a light on how someone who has lived through that kind of hell, is trying to go on with his life. It shows that it is possible.

------------------------------
"If I let it fester in me, then I'll end up no better off than him. He tried to break me. Well, he didn't. I survived and I will go on surviving. And what's more. I'll be happy and I'll not dwell on the pain he tried to inflict.
And do you know what makes me happy? You, Lon. And what's more, I'm sure that you can strip me naked and make me ecstatic."

~Casey~
------------------------------

Lon and Casey are perfect for each other and their relationship develops over the course of the book. The sex was hot in a light and humorous way too. It wasn't earth-shattering-waving-panties-over-head-while-running-for-a-cold-shower sex, but it was.. nice and cute, and I mean nice in the best way and no sarcasm at all. Lon and Casey was good with each other and it was a delight to read about them.

------------------------------
Before he knew it, his hand was gently gliding over that wrinkling skin.
"Mate. You just don't give up, do you?"
"What?" Casey asked, confused. Without taking his eyes off the treasure in front of him (...).He felt Lon sigh but ignored him and folded himself in half until his head was resting on Lon's stomach. The view from this close was better.(...)
The skin was loose in its unaroused condition, and he could press lightly on the head and make the slit gape. It was cute. He bent forward and pressed another kiss to Lon's cock. Just a little hello-I-like-you kiss before he put his head back on Lon's stomach. He continued to stroke the length with gentle fingers, and his eyes widened as the sleeping snake raised its head. The flesh lengthened, swelling slightly before it moved off Lon's stomach as if by magic. Casey smiled with joy. Obviously it wasn't magic, but it was magical to watch.
Lon spread his fingers into Casey's hair and grumbled, "Why did you do that? I just wanted to watch a little
Die Hard."
Chucking, Casey reached out and pulled Lon's cock to his lips. "How about Sigh Hard instead?"

------------------------------

A few small complaints though. Casey's grandmother tirade around 50% was horrible! I'm not sure I ever forgave her. And then a surprising character shows up so late in the book and everything with her was so quickly "bagged and tagged". It made for a great ending, though. Lon and Casey getting

I will definitely recommend you read this book. If you liked The Shearing Gun, you will like this too.

UPDATED 07/06/2015 for audio book:
The audio is narrated by Randy Fuller and, while he does an good job, please note that he's very American sounding accent-wise.

*sighs* I just don't understand why they can't get a good Aussie narrator.

I'll admit the cover totally pulled me in. Because, I mean, look at it! That cover model is absolutely mouth watering. So I probably would have bought it regardless of author or storyline, but then it turned out to be the same author of The Shearing Gun, which I LOVED, so this was a no brainer for me.

Bottom line: Renae Kaye writes another entertaining, quick, low angst (especially considering some of the storyline) page turner.

This is the love story of Lon and Casey, who both have absolutely horrific pasts (and make no mistake, there's a lot of damage for both Lon and Casey), but have managed to overcome what's happened to them and are now determined to be happy together. It's quite uplifting at times.

This book does have a couple of possible triggers. Major spoilers here:

I liked both of the characters, was definitely rooting for them the whole time, and I really loved the story.

P.S.: This is totally how I picture Lon: description

While I liked Renae Kaye's writing just fine ... I thought this story suffered from a tad too much drama: Casey's rape by his pedophile dad, Lon's family situation (parents and one sister died, one brother in jail, one sister on the run -- and oh, the BIG SECRET revealed in the end as well), Lon's best friend who is in secret relationship with a married man, Casey's two friends who are in a "are they or aren't they" relationship ... to be honest, at one point, I wondered whom am I supposed to be focus on!

The thing is, I could see that Lon and Casey have "it" ... combination of chemistry and something that clicks between them, that I knew they would make it just fine. Since early on, it's clear that Lon provides Casey with a safe haven, someone that chases away Casey's nightmares and makes him feel protected. Despite the age-gap, with Lon freaking out over Casey's barely legal status, there wasn't a moment in which I thought they wasn't good for each other.

Thus, the end-point of Casey and Lon's relationship seems to be for them to finally do "full anal sex" -- one that Lon avoids early on, after he found out about Casey's past, for fear that it will make Casey relive those horrific moments. Because of that, the story bored me after a while because the conflict was just ... blah ... you know? In between, we had a number of sex scenes: blow jobs, hand jobs, etc., etc. (just not anal) as well as the side-stories from Lon's and Casey's friend, which became repetitive.

Apart from that, I did like Casey and Lon as characters. Casey might came a bit needy and whiny sometimes and the fact that Casey seemed to know so little about Lon even after being together for a month made me thinking that he might be the more selfish one in this relationship. Then again, Casey is young, and is not like Lon contributes any information about him voluntarily -- probably has to do with Lon seeing himself as the caretaker for Casey thus not wanting to burden his young lover about his past. I also liked the secondary characters -- I would love it if there are follow-up stories about Paul (and his secret married lover) or Devon and Ash.

Essentially, it is a good read, just not a favorite of mine ... but definitely a confirmation that Renae Kaye is an author that I should keep my eyes upon.

Lon is my new book boyfriend. Loved him.
And Casey, what's not to love about this adorable twink. So nice and sweet despite everything life threw his way.
Good steam with a HEA for everybody.

A little of drama?
It might only be sex between them, but Lon could tell when someone needed a little bit more. Just a little bit of something to show that they weren’t alone, that someone cared.

Lon takes a hot shower after exhausting work in the mines and catches a cute young guy, Casey, staring at his gear and gives him two options. Either he gets on his kness and takes care of the erection or he quits staring. Casey takes option A.
"Thank goodness for option A."

Casey was raped by his father at the age of fourteen. He's strong, but sometimes he still has nightmares, panick attacks, and Lon is the only person, that makes him feel safe.

Lon is a big, muscled guy, who suffered a family tragedy. He enjoys to be Casey's rock and feels happy to be able to help him with his past.

I'm curious what would turn out with Lon's friend, Paul, who fell in love with a married man. I really liked Casey's friends, Devon and Ash.

Casey's grandmother and mother talk about how Casey needs therapy, because he wants someone like Lon, made me slightly mad. But in the end his grandmother tries to be supportive of their relationship. And she kinda seemed like a good person.

***** Gosh I loved these characters, and the realistic , deeply feeling story was a bonus ! ***** Lon: "....washing off the grime from the Australian mine, extra large and hairy Lon looks up to see he's being watched by a light haired, lanky, younger lad ... later... "his tanned hand and that pale skin was a sight to behold..." Casey is attracted to Lon immediately. Lon is a large man all over and just what Casey has always wanted. Lon also is struck right away by the eager younger man. Both men have baggage. Lon and Casey embark on a relationship, with lots of satisfying "almost" sex. When you read this you'll discover why they waited for full consummation. :) These two are definitely hot together. Casey must tell the story of his past and hope it won't ruin things, because he doesn't want to lose Lon; he loves being with him. Luckily Lon is understanding, respectful and caring. * Lon's explanation to the "straight" guy, on why he preferred men, was marvelous ! * There are twists and turns, a mystery, and some crazy characters as friends. :) We get some misunderstandings (not from the MCs), more resolve, and healing. There is a lot going on, but this beautiful tale is well written, engaging, interesting, and filled with amazing descriptions, a realistic plot, and hope. The epilogue is terrific!
Highly recommend !! ENJOY this stunning M/M romance !!
