When Hanna discovers a clue suggesting that her husband Jack is having an affair, she doesn't know whether she should end the marriage or try to save it. Little does she know that her discovery is going to drastically change everything. Will her future be as violent as the encounters between the man who wants to possess her and the man who wants to love her? What level of mental anguish and physical damage must be endured before she can reach the life and love she desperately seeks? This is a riveting short story of suspense and romance by Madison Barlow, author of the novels Sparring Partner and Deception Hotel.
Past miscarriages have left Hanna feeling vulnerable and upset. She keeps her painful feelings bottled so that her dominating husband, Jack, doesn’t judge her every reaction. Hanna is preparing dinner one evening when Jack’s cell phone alerts catch her attention.
There was much packed into this short story: a kidnapping scene, the return of an ex, some action bits, and a brother rushing to the aid of his sister. Overall, this was an okay read. Quintessential damsel in distress shenanigans, though.
Overall, I thought this was a really good read. Although there are a few mistakes. There's an end quotation when there was nobody speaking, and a few spelling mistakes. Other than that, I thought that it was a great book to read and would definitely read it again.
It is a book for someone to read for those who like romance and suspense. To me, one of the characters are dark and the other characters were fine the way they were written to be. I believe that there should be another book to continue it to find out what happens next to two of the characters at the end of this book. It should be a continuation.
I would recommend this for anyone that loves romance and suspense novels.
I like love, sex ,steamy. Only one of those three is what I got. Instead I got a madman, a victim, a boyfriend, a husband, a lover, wife abuse, infidelity, infertility, craziness, and suspense all wrapped up in 45 pages. I think Ms. Barlow did a fabulous job of packing so much into such a small space!
was looking through the free books for something to read and just picked this at random. Not really my cup of tea, but read it anyway, but found it totally lacking in depth. No background as to why Jack became so violent, what had happened before. And although I felt sorry for the victim, I could not believe her choice of refuge No Sorry not for me
I really enjoyed the story... but the typos and the last page really got me. I think this author needs to take some time to edit it a bit. Especially that last page, asking for reviews. But definitely a good, intense read.
I have an higher expectation when i look the thrilling cover! what the hell is it.. iam really curious!
However, it is standard plot about relationships abuse and yeah it not mind-blowing plot since i found the story is similar as Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks and Sleeping with the Enemy by Nancy Price and it adapted to movie in 1991 with Julia Roberts and Patrick Bergin.
The story is going so fast since yeah i know it is short story but the ending is too predictable for me. I'm really sorry >__<
This is a good short story that had the potential to be a great novel. There is not enough time to do anything but get aggravated at what idiots the characters are. Anyone think of calling 9-1-1? A bit unbelievable. The story contains enough suspense and romance to almost make up for all the holes in the plot. It was free though, so you can't beat the price. This author has potential...
Did not like this one bit. A fast read (it literally took me 20 minutes) and the biggest waste of 20 minutes in my life. SPOILER ALERT**** a woman who gets abused by her husband and leaves with her ex. Why didn't anyone call 911?!? Why did the author write her as being week? She didn't try fighting back at all?
Why didn't she throw a hot skillet of oil on him? Why weren't the cops called? Why why why? Not a fan at all...
Quick read about a woman who is in an abusive relationship. We never really find out about the trauma her and her husband have been through. It hints to a few things and mentions one, but never really shows their relationship. It's fast paced and filled with action. But your missing so many things that it seems familiar. A story about a woman who is abused. No back story to make it unique.
I enjoyed this short story, it had me interested after the first paragraph. The author does well at making you want a happy ending for Hanna. I just wish there was more!
The story line was good but it left to much out. The preview said Jack had dark secrets but the book never explained enough it. The story left you unfulfilled. Had some errors it too.
I like the short story. Domestic violence is never ok. That poor girl when to heck and back due to her husband's abuse. He wanted his cake and eat it to. Thank God her ex and brother come to save her
