Good writing, great world building, amazing complex characters, good plot. There were flaws but I'm a big fan of this author. Also I hate cliff hangers. Mean!

re-read. the cliffhanger seems even more manipulative.

I love dystopian romance so this book’s blurb caught my attention right away. The world building was very good as we see a post-apocalyptic world where men destroyed the earth and killed most of humanity. Now women rule the world and are just as corrupt as men. Readers are introduced to the world by Chanyn, who is just as much an outsider as readers. This is very well done so there isn’t an information dump, just exploring the world through Chanyn’s eyes.

Where this novella fails for me is on the romance level. Dain and Khial, his bodyguard/childhood best friend/lover, find Chanyn living away from their city and Chanyn is intrigued by the men, as they are her. Dain and Khial already have an intense relationship and we get glimpses of how they became a couple but it feels like Chanyn is disrupting their dynamic. When Chanyn, Dain, and Khial agree to get married, Dain hires a sex monk to “train” Chanyn and this adds another sexual (romantic?) dynamic into the short novella. If all that weren’t enough, the ending is a major cliff-hanger so none of the romances have any conclusion. Yes, I admit this may be all tied up nicely in future installments but I’m reviewing Part One and it wasn’t satisfying for this romance-lover.

So the big question is, will I read Part Two or future installments? I’m not sure…maybe? The world building was so good and the eroticism well done (for readers who read both het and gay romance in the same book). This may entice me to read future installments…maybe.

My Review

3 Stars

This book had me laughing a couple of times. Just the way the story was set up... post-apocalyptic US setting. It was a fun story and a quick read.
What I found though as I read was a bit disjointed. A little bit of detail about the characters... but not really enough to sink your teeth in. I really did like the the story concept. My fav character would be Dain, just because he seemed more together than the rest. Khial where as I understand his attitude comes mostly for concern for his mate, even the jealousy that he presents is understandable. He is fighting not only his concern and fear but his own feelings toward Chanyn. Then you have Chanyn she seems put together pretty well, her mother was dead set in raising her to hate men. Because of her mothers views, Chanyn grew up outside the safety of the city. Chanyn was spunky and outright with her views on things, I'd wish she was more sassy to others though...as in her horrid family.
This is book 1 of what seems will be a series. As mentioned before the story seemed a bit erratic pieces all over the place. I'll be waiting for next book, I'm sure more of the story will come to light. Also its a serious cliff hanger so be prepared. There was a hot scene between Dain and Khial, a few flirts and eye lash batting, the scene with the pleaure hound. (which is the title of the book, Ill be interested to see how she will put him in the story more.) As first books go... I liked it and now eager to read the second one, just to see where the story goes.

I don't mean to hate...the book is well written, and it has a futuristic theme which I liked, but I personally was turned off by the man on man action. Other than that it was an entertaining read.

Ok wow...where to start. First and foremost I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. Don't let that stop you from reading what I have to say. I've been given books before and did not find them favorable. This however...whew...Ok...

I was first drawn in by the premise of a dystopian story. I'm always for that, then add in a few hot guys (3) to choose from and what's not to like...but I wasn't prepared! This story takes you into a world quite unlike any dystopian I've read. Without giving too much away the tables in this society are reversed a bit. Chanyn is a unique heroine who is a little lost to this world. Not unlike the reader trying to gauge exactly what is going on. It feels like you are taking the journey with her. Her responses and feelings aren't unlike what one of us would feel plopped down unknowing into this landscape. Her reactions feel believable.

The men she meets are hard to figure out. I'm still trying to decide who's the one/ones I should be rooting for. I think that's what makes the reader keep wanting to turn the pages. You have the friendly respectable guy, the moody bad boy, and the likeable good hearted man...not a bad choice to have to make eh?

There are erotic scenes yes, so if that's your cup of tea feel free to dive right in. I was worried I would be put off by any m/m scenes, but I surprisingly wasn't. For the world they live in, it fits. There's a dynamic there that is starting to take shape, and I'm intrigued to figure out where this is going. Yes this is the first in a series. Many people are increasingly frustrated by that, but the length of this feels good, and I believe you are actually getting a story here and not just the set up. I have been sufficiently pulled in so that I want to know what will happen next.

The writing style is smart, and this world is explained in a way, that will draw you in, and give you some actual smiles at certain references from time to time as well.

If you are looking for a read that will genuinely take you someplace else, with a unique storyline, mixed with erotic moments, laughs, and intelligence...I say go for it. Personally, I can't wait to find out what happens next!

Wow! This book was so much more than I expected. This story has it all. Some excitement, drama, jealousy, erotica, and much more. Ines really brought the characters to life. Chanyn, Khial, Dain, and Jian are some unforgettable characters. Chanyn is a young girl who has no clue about life in general, other than what she's read in books and learned from her mother. Being around men for the first time is a challenge in itself. Being around the sexiness that is Jian, Dain, and Khial appears to be too much. What's a girl to do with so much at her fingertips when she's not accustomed to being held in such high regard, yet alone desired? The web that Ines has woven with these characters is sticky and I can't wait to see what happens next! I highly recommend this read to others.

This was an interesting book set in a relatively unique dystopian future. I'm loving that the characters are multi-ethnic, and I have hope that the story will develop over the course of the next two books. That said, there were some parts that felt lacking to me, primarily when it came to characters and how they were supposed to feel. I'm chalking this one up as an introduction to the series. Not terrible by any means, but not what I'd hoped for.

I'm giving this 2.5 stars

This one intrigued me due to the way the society is. A man vs woman but women are cherished. I don’t mean like some snooty rich lady, but like a miracle or a pure blessing from the heavens. It was a very different take on the culture of way folks live. This one had some sadness but it was important to the story. A sadness you can appreciate rather than cry about and not want to continue on. The romance dynamics were also creative. I am not a fan of guy on guy, but I do respect it. Overall it was still a good read. I do intend to read the others in the series. =D

Not my typical read, but I enjoyed it! The world building was fascinating - women hold the power and men are there to serve. Sounds good to me! The characters were complex and likeable...I can see how the plot will thicken in the next installment.
For a serial novel, I thought part one was really well done. It read like a complete story and left the reader wanting to continue the journey.
Well done!

Not sure on this one

I find many of the characters in this to be wooden and two dimensional and the book if one can call it that was more a short tease there wasn't enough there to encourage me to buy the next part as I kind of find the whole society a bit distasteful. Not one I would recommend

Another freebie I really loved!
I like the mythology and the character depth. There is more than one character whose prespective this book is written in and I like that a lot.
