chapters 35-55 i wish i could level up now and use status recovery, because my back is hurting me. wouldn't it be cool, to have a reading site, where we level up the more we read? Let's introduce RPG elements to reading! Nothing much is happening with the Yoo Jinho party small arc.. Yeah we integrate more characters into the story, but so far, no one is really making a strong enough impact, so this remains solo leveling.. Now i have never seen a warrior necromancer class, in any game before, and obviously even the writer knew how weird his decision is, but since the legendary necromancer class of Diablo 2, all Hardcore gamers know that Necromancer class is really a force that you don't mess with, and that's exactly what happened here, Sung Jinwoo (whose name i finally memorized) is now chilling more and letting his minions do the work for him, and using them to beat bosses who are higher level them him too, by co fighting with them. Kim Chul art was great he sure looked Tanky, but when he comes a shadow too, the art is great, and i like the comedy part about him being stupid.. the action scenes when sung's army was fighting the frost bears where really hard to follow and its a huge part why i didn't feel like i wanted to raise the rating of this volume (i advice reading the sounds of battle, because they will give you a better idea of what is happening unlike the art) Sung Jinwoo, is really edging to anti-hero each passing volume, for me he is an anti-hero already, he put the sword next to Kim chul to enable him to attack, just so he can kill him and make a shadow out of him, i mean self defense yeah, but actually going out of your way to manipulate people into trying to murder you, such so that you can justify murdering them (Red Flag)
Jinwoo Sung is still leveling up ridiculously fast, but at least the challenges he faces this time are not instantly overwhelmed by his outrageously strong powers and weapons. He takes an E-rank schoolmate of his sister under his wing to dissuade her from the monster hunting life by taking her on an observation trip with a hunter strike team, but of course the supposedly easy mission ends with them all trapped on an ice world fighting for their lives.
A bunch of new characters are introduced as the world-building gets some attention. That can sometime ruin a series with it all devolving into too many talking heads discussing strategy and history (I'm thinking of Attack on Titan, World Trigger, and Arpeggio of Blue Steel), but it helps to break up the otherwise nonstop action here.
Demasiado bueno!!!
Solo leveling continues to be a pretty looking book with a solid plot though I'm wondering what is the end game.
We do have the start where our hero is basically just powering up. It's cool to see thanks to great designs and fights though it seems very grindy. However, the red gate appears, which makes this volume a lot more exciting soon after. With survival on the mind, more training, and finally a reveal of the hero and maybe someone related to him, this volume continues to be extremely entertaining. A 4 out of 5.
actually shaking from how excited this volume’s storyline made me
my biggest complaint from previous volumes was the nonstop action and little world building, but now with new characters introduced and more insight into the political sphere of hunters, i’m feeling more invested than ever in where solo leveling will take me
volume five needs to come out NOW PLS the people need it!!!! (it’s me! i’m the people!)
"Dungeons, gates, and magic beasts...are mere precursors to the real war that is coming."
I HAD CHILLS THE ENTIRE VOLUME. yoonho is here!! jongin made his first appearance (ugh i freaking love him!!! his character art/aesthetic is my fav too). the part where jongin talks to jinwoo, and jinwoo walks past and dismisses him immediately, that was colddddd af 💀😂 jinwoo is so insane and he doesn't realize it, i love it 😂 the plot is picking up even more! i seriously cannot complain about anything regarding this series. i'm having the best time!!
igris panels were perfection ❤️🔥 he is literally one of the most badass characters i've ever seen.
CHA HAEIN IS COMING NEXT VOLUME I COULDN'T HOLD BACK MY SCREAMS SEEING THE PREVIEW FOR THE NEXT VOLUME AHHHHHSHFDHDSKHFDKJFHAKJ I LOVE HERRRRRRR
This was my first foray into the progression fantasy genre and still remains the best amongst them, IMO. The plot grows strong with a parallel mystery element running hidden underneath.
When Jinwoo Sung visits his sister's school he is told by her teacher that one of her friends has quit school to become a hunter. He plans to show her exactly what it means to be a hunter, hoping that will convince her to go back to school. They follow along on a training mission with the White Tiger Guild, but nothing goes according to plan.
Jinwoo continues to develop as a hunter, although he is still ranked in the lowest class, and it's interesting to follow his development. But it's getting hard for him to hide his new abilities and more people are keeping an eye on him. I'm looking forward to continue following Jinwoo and to see what happens next!
I really liked this volume, however, the depiction of the red gate battle was so underwhelming - and confusing to look at - that I had to remove a star. I've watched the animed series and that particular battle was one of my favorites. Looking at it in the manhwa was so disappointing that I took a break from reading just to rewatch that particular episode (...not sure I should be complaining about that, though 😅). I understand that you can't depict action scenes as fluidly in panels as you can on film, but geez... I couldn't make out what was happening in like half the panels.
But, fine. I won't dwell on that because Jinwoo looked so damn good doing whatever it was he was he was doing. Every time it was time to fight, his sexiness factor increased by 20 fold. It's all that seriousness and murderous intentent.🤌💥 😅 This was a lot of fun. I think I'll read one more volume before I take a break from the series. 4 stars
- guys it's so pRETTY ;-; - 11/10 violence just GORGEOUS panels I love them - I'm no pro at like the subgenre of like, RPG? or anything but it's still easy to follow yay lol - THE CHARACTERS!!! JUST!!!! - Jin <3 - plot is heatin' up let's goooo
An exciting volume in the series! With tons of kick-ass battles, scary monsters, our MC levelling up and getting some crazy fun new skills (that shadow army stuff, awesome), there are some surprises (that I definitely didn't expect), there is an asshole (I was already dreading him in this story, seriously get over yourself), I loved seeing what happened when you got two angry S-ranks, that other world in the red gate was awesome (and terrifying), and I love that our MC went to re-evaluate his skills (and I am curious to see what that will mean for him, we get a glimpse, but I want to see more). And the art was cool!
Jinwoo ends up trying to teach somebody a lesson and it naturally goes horribly wrong. He still becomes more powerful though. In the background, lots of guilds are playing off one another, but the true threat sits poised to either destroy civilization or make picnic season super awkward.
It’s depressingly possible that I’m just so damn basic and like this book more entirely because it’s in colour. I say this on the basis that this is a pretty competent overpowered protagonist story that I enjoy, but it’s basic as hell itself.
My continued hope is that Jinwoo is going to face something at all like a challenge or consequences and that feels particularly optimistic of me at this time. Instead, here’s another couple hundred pages of politics and business mixed with blurry action while Jinwoo becomes even more ludicrously overpowered.
The best part is indeed when he takes a friend of his sister under his wing for a hunt that turns into a brutal survival game. Despite making the absolutely correct choice, the leader of said hunt is punished for not being the hero of the story, which is a bit eyebrow raising (doubly so considering his ultimate fate, which is more horrific than the last horror story I read).
With Jinwoo leading them, the loser group manages to stay alive handily, naturally, though Jinwoo could sneeze wrong at this point and probably destroy Monaco. I did like the one higher level hunter who gets picked by the leader, but recognizes Jinwoo is clearly more than he seems and asks to swap. She’s a nice touch.
Largely the problem is that there are no stakes, which is such a contrast to that amazing first volume where Jinwoo had to be so clever to get himself out of a scenario that seemed nigh impossible. At one point later on in this volume, Jinwoo is hunting and something gives him trouble, so he says, but there’s never a suggestion that he’ll gets even a scratch or a hair out of place.
And the story just keeps bolting more and more abilities to him. Maybe he’ll ultimately be taken out when his status screen gets too encumbered and falls over, mashing him to a pulp. They’re still mostly playing fair with the game stuff, mostly, but watching somebody sift through inventory screens isn’t even compelling when I’m doing it myself.
All of this sounds tolerable, but it’s the little hints that make this somewhat fun. There’s always just enough left to be curious about and it reads easily enough. The threat of an evolving pack of murderous ants did raise my eyebrow a little, but it’s not like I didn’t just kill a ton in Elden Ring, so they have form for showing up in game scenarios (or in cult classic It Came From the Desert!, lest you believe for a second I am young and with it).
Sometimes this does seem to be very on-the-fly, where things are strictly made up as they go. The brother of a hunter Jinwoo killed before is still out for revenge and that seems like it’s about to go to some real places until it goes wildly elsewhere. It’s not a bad choice, merely a different one, but surprising decisions are not always satisfying ones.
Combined with the indestructible nature of our protagonist and the incredibly laborious nature of hearing about all the agencies and guilds that are vying for status and power, none of whom are fleshed out enough to make them worth caring about, and you certainly have a slower volume than last time.
But it still goes down smooth, which is all I can ask for with something this silly. I’m sure part of it is the nature of this adaptation being a webtoon to start with, but these are easily digestible storytelling chunks that mostly hold together and I do like the art. This is a style over substance book and no mistake.
3 stars - I mean, I don’t see how this can end without Jinwoo becoming a god, or at least punching one, so it’s fun on that level. It’s just spectacle, honestly, and sometimes that’s okay.
Fourth time and it's still the perfect tale that I love and love to come back to again and again. If you are keeping track, then it's twice in the last two years that I have read the series, and I will probably continue that in the coming years as well. ------------------------------- This is my third time reading this series and enjoying the experience once again. ---------------------------------- Yes, favorite reads can be equally interesting even if you are reading them in around 8 months. It's a great fun time, so let's go on and Keep on Reading ---------- I have always loved comics, and I have I can. I love comics to bits, may the comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more. You should also read what you love and hope always to love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics, Diamond Comics, or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I just want to Keep on Reading.
Re-read. The final day of the year was spent binge reading SA, then watching the anime, whilst playing the game. This time read on the desktop. Some of these are cool to read double spread, there's minimum white space and the art is beautiful. I didn't notice on the kindle. Others are done as manga, which is a pain to read on the desktop since they don't line up. Still a great series.
December 2022 Kindle edition
The cover isn't as strong as the rest. It was a bit confusing as well, given that the pages swipe backwards like a manga but still read the same. Thought maybe I'd brought the wrong one but double checked the series page I got them from. Loved the panic of him being the 10th and the white tiger guild master rushing in. Looking forward to the chairman meeting.

I love, love, LOVE the Red Gate Arc. I’ve rewatched the two episodes five times now and then reread it in this volume. I just love getting to see Jinwoo progress in strength and experience. I will say that the Demon Castle Arc where Jinwoo is clearing the lower to higher levels is not my favourite. I think I’m just so excited for what I know is coming that I just want to get through it. Overall, still so entertaining!

Absolutely amazing, I was so excited turning each page!
The MC is just such a badass! I've loved seeing how he's developed from the first volume to now! And the new characters that were introduced have me even more excited for the next volume now!!!!!
Trooooop bien !
