This was such a good book! I loved the characters and the storyline. I thought it was well written and look forward to reading more from this author. It was funny in parts, she was just a funny character. I would definitely recommend this book.

Everything's Grand is Freya Kennedy's third installment in her The Fecking Fabulous Forties Club.
I had enjoyed the first book, The Fecking Fabulous Fortiest Club, much more than her second book in this series. So I was anxious to know which tone the third book would follow. I am happy to say that the third book was as good as the first.
This is a story of three women in their forties who are navigating hormones, midlife, marriage, divorce, aging parents, death of parents, dating, and friendship to just name a few. It is refreshing to read about real women dealing with real issues.
Once again Kennedy threads humor throughout her real life issues that these three women face. I would categorize this as a beach read despite the heavier topics.

Becca Burnside’s forties are meant to be fabulous — and in many ways they are — but Jo Bartlett leans into the truth that even the best chapters come with their own brand of mayhem.

Everything's Grand by Freya Kennedy.
I generally enjoy Fiona Gibson's books, and thought this book looked similar to something she would write. Unfortunately, I just couldn't connect with the characters. I was really hoping to see more of the Fabulous Forties Club, but by 49% where I eventually DNF'd, there was only the one brief meeting at the very beginning of the book. It felt like a lost opportunity to connect to a community of women going through all the things the 40's and 50's bring to the table. It could've been humorous and relatable.
Becca's character was fine but not anything particularly engaging. However, I couldn't stand Laura's personality. She has so many un-voiced expectations regarding her friendships and family relationships. She's so put out all the time that people aren't responding the way she wants them to, but she has zero conversations with these people. She's upset that her husband doesn't spontaneously change his ways when she starts taking her hobby university classes in Women's Studies, yet she's spent decades reinforcing the patterns that he doesn't know she wants changed. At least, not by half-way through the book. You don't have a right to be angry with someone for not reading your mind about your changed expectations. Not that her husband or daughter have any particularly redeeming traits. Laura is an example of everything that's wrong with the current feminist movement.
2/5 stars. This book definitely has an audience, but I'm not it. If you're into hating the patriarchy and feminist rage you'll enjoy this read. I personally prefer books where women address these issues by lacing up their steel toes and changing stereotypes on the front lines.

Everything’s Grand is a delightful exploration of the trickiness of midlife womanhood, relationships and best of all, female friendship, and I enjoyed every page!
Book 3 in the Fabulous Forties Club series continues the life of Becca, although it works well as a standalone.
Three women – Becca, Laura and Niamh were besties at school, went in different directions and are now friends again. Becca’s experience is written from her point of view in first person, while Laura is in third, so I felt much more connected to Becca.
The tone is lighthearted, and it’s funny a times, but there are hard things happening as well. I really liked how Everything’s Grand has a potent depiction of anxiety. Becca is in a new and loving relationship with Conal (Laura’s brother) but when he says ‘we have to talk’, she spirals so completely that their whole relationship comes into doubt. While painful to read, this felt so authentic about how anxiety works, when it plays into impulsivity, catastrophising and self-sabotage.
Meanwhile, Laura is just starting out at uni as a mature age student and she’s intimidated and excited by her women’s studies course – which throws an unflattering light (and more!) on her marriage and homelife, and even on her relationship with her teen daughter. Mothers and mothering are important as Becca’s mum looms large, and Laura is grieving for the recent loss of her parents.
Freya Kennedy nails the messiness of midlife and the balance between love, grief, and friendship is terrific.

In this entertaining new read from Freya Kennedy, readers follow Becca Burnside as she enjoys everything -- from her new job as a feature writer for a magazine to her relationship with Conal O’Hagan -- going right. However, Conal’s chats about the future, the chaos of a new grandkid, a disorganized Fabulous Forties Club, and a worry-inducing mother all push Becca’s stress levels and worries about commitment over the edge. Laura, her best friend, has also gone through some changes; she’s enrolled in the university course she’s always wanted to take and started learning about life outside the home (where her family takes her for granted), and Becca and the gang are more than happy to support her new dreams. The characters are well-written, and Becca and Laura alternate perspectives as their lives seem to unravel in ways that readers will sympathize with. The other characters help bring their lives and various challenges to life, and readers will appreciate the complexity of the emotional beats in the story. The details really bring readers into the settings and their lives, while the ups and downs of the narrative mimic real life in some relatable ways, making this an emotional but enjoyable novel fans of Kennedy’s other titles will love.

She has coffee and tea as well as shortbread for those attending. Hoping that more attend than her best friends Laura and Niamh, she sits and waits. They plan to discuss the hazards of being pre-menopausal plus the trials of raising children and dealing with household chores while working at their own jobs.
Everything’s Grand will be published by Boldwood Books on April 26, 2026. I was able to read and review Kennedy’s latest novel via NetGalley. It’s been a pleasure to read; full of situations that most women and men deal with. Her father passed away and her mother is beginning to settle into being a widow. Becca helps by taking her weekly shopping that usually includes her neighbor. While they browse the shops she can have a latte and get some of her writing done. Many of the complications include family, pets and ways to solve the problems. Truly a humorous, delightful book in an Irish tone but very similar to all people in mid-life. It’s a grand read - do enjoy!

Best friends and members of the "sandwich generation" and the fabulous forties club, Becca, Niamh and Laura have weathered a lot of storms together, mostly the personal kind. Deaths, marital issues, perimenopause, kids, aging parents, but they can count on each other in times of crisis.
These 3 ladies are representative of a large group of women who are trapped between caring for aging parents and teenagers, sometimes even grandchildren. It's hard enough to find your place in the world as you age, women feel invisible and unloved. Spurred on by a recent university enrollment, Laura finds her voice and takes steps to improve her life. Of course Becca and Niamh are there for her, just like she's there for Becca and her insecurities with partner Conal.
I thought this book moved a bit slowly, but I did connect with the characters and empathize with their situations. I would read another book by this author.

This part 3 of a series about a group of 40 something friends but it is very easy to get into without knowing the backstories of the previous books.
In Everything's Grand the friends are each going through their own struggles: changing relationships, ageing parents, challenging teenage children and menopausal symptoms. However, the their friendships are helping to pull them through, especially now that they have started a weekly social group for women in their 40s at the local cafe!
Based in Derry I love the Irish colloqualisms throughout the book and also the names of the characters! My favoirite character is Becca's mum Roisin and her friend Mrs Bishop, who decide to film themselves shopping in Asda for TikTok!
A fun, lighthearted book, with lots of topics that women of a similar age can relate to!

I struggled with this book at first but so glad I stuck it out as it soon developed into a funny, lighthearted story of how friends went through everything together, and it fully resonates how a middle aged, menopausal woman’s life can be.
We follow Becca and Laura as their lives change and they begin to go through what life brings their way.

Without the background of the first novel in the series, I did feel something was missing and I hope I can get to review that. I like Freya Kennedy’s books- they have aspects of real life sprinkled with humor.
For me, baby Clara was a star of this book in her own right. The scenes with her and Becca are tender. I liked following Becca’s friend Laura as she went to university as a mature student.

I struggled with this book at the start but so glad I persevered as I really enjoyed getting to know Becca, Laura and Niamh in more detail. I loved the way the book touched on subjects such as grief over the loss and illness of your parents and how people can drift apart as you hit middle age, all things I could relate to. This book however had its comical moments and I loved the friendship between the main characters and how supportive they were with each other. A story of how friendship can get you through life’s darker moments.

The third book of the series continuing the lives of Becca , Laura and Niamh three childhood friends who are now well into their middle aged years and all it entails! The bonds of female friendship may be tested along the way but when it really matters they all rally around
Becca is juggling empty nest syndrome,grandparent hood, menopause, relationship wobbles and an aging parent!
Laura has seen the light and decided to totally change her life by going back to studying full time and making drastic decisions re her marriage ,Niamh is always there for her friends whilst still raising her family and looking after her granddaughter.
A really uplifting read extolling all the virtues of female friendship through thick and thin, gold in a witty relatable way that will resonate with women of a certain age!

I heard that sarcasm in the title right away, and since I'm a fan, I just couldn't wait to read this book. And I loved it. It's nothing flashy, nor is it overly emotional, but it's still quietly beautiful and even inspirational. Or at least to me.
It's about two women in their forties, navigating their struggles, embracing their age, having fun and most importantly being brave, despite their fears, changing their lives even with no idea what's waiting on the other side.

Wow what a fantastic read. Based around three friends in their late forties like myself. So relatable, so emotional and just so real. Not many books are so open about the realities for women entering into this phase of their lives, it was so refreshing to read and know that it’s ok to have these thoughts and feelings. It was my first time reading this author and I can’t wait for the next book. I wasn’t actually sent this to review but spotted it when looking at the Bolderwood books they made available to me on NetGalley but I’m so glad I did, honestly one of the best books I’ve read.

Everything's Grand is the third book in the fabulous 40s series. The story centres around 3 friends navigating growing older with relationship, family and work issues. The series has a comedic tone and so although it covers some deeper emotional topics, its done in a fun empathetic way.
Although this was my least favourite of the series it was still a good read catching up the girls. Its a great palate cleanser series when you want something fun and light-hearted.

Tired of frothy, bubbly twenty somethings with their boyfriend issues and office politics? Want to read something real and uplifting instead? Then this is just the book for you! I loved all three friends, their families and their fears. The issues of elderly parents, grief, needed their own space, and even being a different person from who they were twenty years ago really resonated with me. A balanced and sensitive look at middle age and what women really think and need. Beautiful!

This is a fun read, Becca is in full blown perimenopause, she’s setting up a Forties club while have no sleep and hot sweats. Her teenage boys have left, her dog Donald is her companion along with her friends. She has a blossoming romance that’s going great. It’s a lighthearted read that really relates to a woman’s life. I found it fun, upbeat, but with a touch of sadness. A great 5 star read. Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.

In every chapter of this story, there is something for older women like me to resonate with. Whether it's family life, menopause, not being seen or heard, or simply trying to cope with the changing world we live in, Freya Kennedy hits the nail, smack on the head!
There were so many, "I hear ya, sister!" moments for me, that I binge read it in two sittings, laughing and crying my way through it, and loving every second of the experience. For a 60+ grandmother, I have shared some of the experiences that Becca, Niahm, and Laura are going through, and I was metaphorically and wholeheartedly cheering them on.
I really recommend this book to all ladies of a certain age who share a sense of humour and who enjoy taking a look at themselves from a "I no longer give a poop" perspective 😉

I understand this is a third in the series book but I read it as s standalone. In no way did this affect my understanding of the story or characters.
A really easy, light read with likeable, relatable characters and humour throughout. The trials and tribulations of women in their 40s, juggling relationships, jobs and families. What shines thought is the strength and camaraderie that women offer each other through genuine friendship.
Highly recommend a read.

An Interesting and slightly emotional novel about relationships
This book addresses "the change", female and familial relationships, and highlights the importance of supportive friendships and respect. The unique differences of each character was refreshing, as was the humor early on in the story. This reader was able to identify with several characters and their respective challenges. I highly recommend this novel.

Enjoyable read with 3 life long friends sharing their ups and downs. I got a little tired of all of the misunderstandings and lamenting over some of their actions, but overall a good read. Loved the interactions with their moms, dead and alive. The male characters weren't great except for Conal.

A great book for women. This hits the spot for us ladies in our 40’s.
It’s thought provoking, fun, heartwarming, heartbreaking, sad and happy all rolled up in one good book.
I loved catching up with Niamh, Becca and Laura and hearing more about their stories and lives. This should be read by everyone it’s so good.

3 friends dealing with motherhood, perimenopause, children and grandchildren. Set in Derry.
It was supposed to be a light, fun read but I just couldn't get into the story. the characters were okeish, just couldn't connect to them, despite being in the same age range.
I think it is quite a good book, just not for me.

I love this series and am ready for more!
What a beautiful series of books showing the ins and outs of the 40s. This book perfectly captures what myself and so many friends are going through, and will go through.
