Thanks so much to NetGalley for the free Kindle book. My review is voluntarily given, and my opinions are my own.
Any Marvel fan will absolutely love this book. It isn't just the quotes included, although those are great. It's the actual comic book panels and illustrations included in the book. I do wish there were full comic panels showing more context with the quotes, but my guess is this is one of those small books that could be a stocking stuffer (except super expensive because it's Marvel).
Well, at least it isn't DC. Lol. Had to put in here, even though I have no issues with DC. Just fun.
“good is not a thing you are. it’s a thing you do.”
pick up marvel classic quotes for a coffee table book-style compilation of quotes from the comics.
this was a neat idea, but i wish it had been more curated—it’s just a random assortment of quotes spanning several decades of marvel comics, interspersed with a few comic panels. i would love to see a version focused on a specific character, team, superhero mantle, or theme.
arc provided by netgalley and cider mill press in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you, NetGalley, for this ARC. I requested on NetGalley after exactly a year for new ARC, and it got approved! This one is about Marvel comics, and any Marvel fan will definitely enjoy it.
While reading, I was reminded of the old Spider-Man comics I used to read at my childhood obviously a bagla version. I growing but never forget about comics, I still reading. This book is a collection of old Marvel quotes to modern one. My favorite quote from this collection is: “I’m My Own Woman – First, Last, And Always!” (from Black Widow in Daredevil).
However, I didn’t really like this one: “I am a woman, a mutant, a thief, an X-Men, a lover, a wife, a queen. I am all these things. I am Storm, and for me, there are no such things as limits.” When someone proudly says that women can do everything: they can cook, work in an office, and handle everything at once, they are superwomen blah blah blah...I appreciate their pride, but personally, I dislike the idea. Why should I always have to pretend that I can do everything? And why should I have to?
Still it was a good read, and it gave me a nostalgia.
My thanks to NetGalley and Cider Mill Press for an advance copy of this book of quotes featuring characters from the Marvel Comics Universe from the early first swings of Spider-Man to the lastest stories of today.
I love me a good quote. For years I have used a file card as a bookmark for physical books, or just tucked into my ereader to write down things that interest me while reading. Fun facts, interesting events, how to pick locks, steal starships, defeat kaiju, or well written lines and quotes. I wish I had been doing this as a child when I first started reading comics. My Grandmother, Nan, was my supplier. Every visit was a peanut butter cup, and a comic book. Nan was never one for buying the same book twice, so every time was a brand new character, but Nan was a Marvel zombie, though she didn't know it. Which was good as I always loved the Marvel stories. I liked the heroes, the way they handled things, and how their life got in the way. They spoke to me, not above me. Even now many of the lines I read in those comics mean much to me. To the writer of this book also. There was a reason so many demanded "Make MIne Marvel". Marvel Comics Classic Quotes: Quotes Assemble! Insights from Earth’s Mightiest Heroes by Robb Pearlman is a sampling of some of these great lines, collected in one place with a some classic art to give the quotes a little more substance.
The book begins with the author giving a brief description of the Marvel Universe, and why there are so many good lines from the books and why they still have meaning even now. The book begins with Spider-Man and the most misquoted quote in comicdom, but one that still has meaning today. From there we travel the Marvel Universe, from past to present, with lines about heroism, line about being human, of trying and accepting failure And getting back up. Accompanying the quotes are comic panels from classic issues, not exactly featuring the quotes, but giving a little bit of heft to what is said.
The Marvel way was for Stan to sketch out a story, the artist to fill it in, and Stan to add words to fit the art. For a person who always felt embarssed by working in the four-color industry, Stan Lee had a gift for words. And with the art he was given from Jack Kirby, John Romita, Sal Buscema, how good he not. Many will nitpick over what is chosen. That's not the point. This is to highlight the beauty of these stories and why 60 years later people still want to read and watch these characters. The quotes are nice, and so is the art. I wish it was longer, but this is a nice start.
A good book for old fans and new ones just getting into the comic world. A book to to show what they cared about these characters for, and reasons why we still care in this bleak future we find ourselves in. Maybe these words will cause nostalgia, maybe a drive to make a better world. Whatever this is a fun book, and in Stan's words, Excelsior.

Pearlman highlights the lesser-known gems alongside iconic lines, pulling from 86 years of Marvel history to celebrate the voices of its heroes.

Whether you’re a long-time Marvel enthusiast or a newcomer to the superhero world, this book serves as the perfect companion, reminding you that we all have a bit of a superhero within us. Gear up and get ready to traverse the captivating world of Marvel, one quote at a time.
Robb Pearlman's Marvel Comics Classic Quotes is a 96-page collection of memorable lines from across Marvel's long history, each paired with images, comic panels or illustrations that bring the words into perspective. While the book is not groundbreaking, it's a quick, enjoyable read, prefect for longtime fans looking to reminisce or newcomers discovering some quotes for the first time. Its wonderful that Pearlman includes not only iconic lines from the '60s, '70s, and '80s, but also newer pulls from the past 10-15 years, making it appealing to a broad range of fans.
Marvel Comics Classic Quotes: Quotes Assemble! Insights from Earth's Mightiest Heroes is a light and fun read for any Marvel fan. It's not without flaws—the quotes aren't organized in any clear way, and the visuals aren't particularly standout—but it still works well as a coffee table book that can spark great geeking conversations. It also makes a great gift for the Marvel fan in your life. Simple, fun, and full of fan-favorite moments.
Marvel Comics Classic Quotes: Quotes Assemble! Insights from Earth’s Mightiest Heroeshits bookstores everywhere on October 7, 2025 from Cider Mill Press.
This is a fun coffee table-style book that can be casually read in a single sitting. For any Marvel fan, it delivers a selection of mostly well-known catchphrases that have become popular through internet memes and the MCU like "I am Groot" and "I don't want to cure cancer. I want to turn people into dinosaurs", but also a few that come directly from some of the best stories from the comics, like Ms. Marvel's "Good is not a thing you are. It's a thing you do."
Each quote is usually accompanied by a comic book panel, but oddly enough not always the panel it is referencing. It's clear that this is a book primarily targeted towards people that are familiar with both the quotes and the stories themselves, and that is a shame as I would have loved a little snippet of context to also be there to provide more information on what each quote means. Some quotes can perfectly stand on their own and hold meaning even if someone hasn't read that particular story, others though not so much. The words "No more mutants" for example, will mean very little to someone not familiar with the story arc behind them. Not every Marvel fan has read all the comics, and it would be a good way to get more people interested in discovering new books.
I'd say that my biggest nitpick about the book is the lack of credit given to artists and writers. For most quotes there is a comic title with the issue number and date, referencing their origin, but no information on the people who wrote and drew them. Despite the misconception that comic books are just shallow pop corn entertainment, there is lots of heart, depth, and insight to be found in many of these stories, and that's thanks to the artists and writers behind them.
It was nice seeing (part of) one of my favourite quotes from Loki: Agent of Asgard #13 (2015), by Al Ewing, Lee Garbett, and Antonio Fabela:
"What is a lie, when it's at home? Anyone? Is it the depressed little voice inside? Whispering in my ear? Telling me to give up? Well, I'm not giving up. Not for that part of me that hates myself. That wants me to wither and die. Not for you. Never for you. What's a lie, Verity? A lie is a story told. That's all. And we can rewrite our stories. All of us. Write our own happy endings. Our own redefinitions. We don't have to be what we're told to be. Even by ourselves."

"Marvel Comics Classic Quotes: Quotes Assemble! Insights from Earth's Mightiest Heroes" is a collection of quotes and comic book art highlighting some of the legendary moments in Marvel comic book history.
"Avengers Assemble!"
"Wakanda Forever!"
"I am Groot!"
And my favorite, "Hulk SMASH!"
This book has some of the most memorable lines from the comic books, many now even more well-known for being a part of Marvel movies or TV series, and there was a warm feeling of familiarity as I read through this book. The art featured is also beautiful. I don't think a lot of people appreciate the artistry in comic book storytelling.
It was an easy book to flip through and enjoy in one sitting, but that means it also left me wanting more. I was disappointed that the quotes rarely matched up with the artwork they were paired with on the pages. I think pairing the iconic line with the image(s) of when that line was spoken would have been more engaging, and also potentially draw casual fans to explore the stories more.
In my opinion, the book felt disorganized and thrown together randomly. There was no structure or purpose for the order of the quotes/images, or if there was one, it wasn't obvious. It could have been put together in order of each character's first appearance, or by grouping characters who appear together the most often. Anything to bring a little more structure. Because of this and no connection between the quotes and the images used, the book as a whole is unmemorable.
The quotes are great, the artwork is amazing, and I enjoyed reading through this book once, but I don't think I will feel compelled to read through it again.
Marvel Comics Classic Quotes: Quotes Assemble! Insights from Earth’s Mightiest Heroes by Robb Pearlman is fun, quick, and full of memorable lines, but it’s also a missed opportunity.
I read this as an ARC ebook, and it’s the kind of book you can breeze through in 30 minutes. It collects some of Marvel’s most iconic quotes: It’s Clobberin’ Time!”, “Hulk Smash!”, “Sweet Christmas!”, and so many more. Fans will enjoy revisiting these classics, and newcomers will get a taste of Marvel’s humor, heroism, and heart.
That said, this book could have been so much more: • More artwork and panels showing the quotes in their original context. • Organization by decade or era (Silver Age, Bronze Age, etc.) with a bit of context for each era. • Indexes by character and by creator, and more recognition of the writers and artists behind these lines. Remember, not everything was Jack and Stan.
It’s a fun collection, but with just a few tweaks, it could have been a must-have coffee table book for Marvel fans. If you love quotes, classic comic lines, and a quick nostalgia trip through Marvel’s history, you’ll enjoy this.
Some of my personal favorite quotes I wish were included:
Spider-Man: “Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man!” Thor: “By Ymir’s frost-covered beard, art thou mad?” Captain America: “One man can win a war. Give that one man a group of soldiers with the same conviction, and you can change the world.” Kitty Pryde: “Professor Xavier is a jerk!”
A fun read for casual fans and a nostalgic hit for longtime Marvel lovers. Just don’t expect a fully curated or comprehensive collection.

Quotes assemble! The quotes from Marvel Comics Classic Quotes by Robb Pearlman are here for you, to save you from not having a quote to tell people!
This book is basically Marvel’s greatest hits album, except instead of music, it’s quotes. Quotes, quotes, and yep… more quotes. And if you're worried about not having enough quotes, there's even more quotes! The quotes included are infamous ones from comics in the Marvel Universe. The format is simple but solid. Each quote is paired with a comic panel and a clean background that doesn’t drown out the words. Bonus points: the book actually tells you where most of the quotes came from, so you can go full comic archaeologist and dig up the original issue. Would’ve been even better if every quote got that treatment. Still, it’s a nifty feature for the majority.
I do wish that the comic panels shown were of when the quotes were said, because most are not. Still, the range of quotes makes up for it; some are funny, some are inspirational, and some are dramatic one-liners.
Some personal faves: “I AM GROOT.” (Truly, the Shakespeare of our time.) “Good is not a thing you are. It’s a thing you do.” – Ms. Marvel “I’ve died before. It was boring, so I stood up.” – Moon Knight (Peak chaotic energy.)
Final verdict? 4 out of 5 explosions. It won’t blow your mask clean off, but it’s a fun collection of Marvel wisdom. Full of iconic quotes and comic panels, but it could’ve used more of that signature Marvel KA-POW! magic. Great for flipping through, gift-worthy for comic nerds, and perfect for anyone who wants to casually toss out “I am Iron Man” at dramatic pauses in real life.

Marvel Comics Classic Quotes is a fun little collection for die-hard fans of the Marvel universe, bringing together memorable lines from iconic heroes and villains. Robb Pearlman curates the quotes with an eye for inspiration and humor, making it a light, quick read that works well as a gift or coffee-table book. The colorful design and comic-style presentation are definitely a plus.
However, while it’s enjoyable, the book feels more like a novelty than something deeply engaging. Also there should have been more illustration or say on-paper picturization of the real published comics to support the quotes rather than on Black background. Many quotes are ones fans have already seen countless times in comics or movies, so there’s not much new insight or commentary. A bit more context, backstory or even lesser-known gems would have elevated the experience.
Overall, it’s entertaining for casual flipping and nostalgia, but not essential reading unless you’re a hardcore Marvel enthusiast looking to add to your collection.
This contains a good selection of classic quotes. All of the quotes I expected were there. This is a single sitting less than an hour read so it's good for nostalgia. Maybe a coffee table book. Maybe a Christmas gift. I think how well it will be received will depend on what expectations a reader goes into it with. I expected nothing but text because it's a quote book. That meant that I was pleasantly surprised to find some nice panel examples illustrating each character, particularly because I enjoyed the range of ages of the panels and examples. I see from the other reviews that others expected that the specific panels would match the first instance of the quotes. I think that's kind of a high bar to expect and I was happy because I was not expecting that. I personally prefer a wide range of ages rather than everything first instance. We've got several generations of comic book lovers and therefore a wide range of what age is found to be peak nostalgic. Thanks for the digital ARC.
Well this took about ten minutes to read, and will probably be forgotten in less time. It literally is a collection of quotes from the Marvel comics – one per spread, with a decent image (mostly) of the one who says it facing the words. But despite the introduction screaming that we believe the power of these stories, we have a couple of enduring sentences, some well-known catchphrases, and the rest is just not worth archiving in such a way. You have to be the Marvel completist to need this, and then you'd probably know much of these words anyway, defeating its own object. The rest of us will potentially see this as a useful gift book, but one that – as I say – takes little time to flick through and then need never concern us again. Sure, some of the visuals are great – if uncredited – but even then it's not a given; the America Chavez entry looks dreadful. Save your cash for the spinners.
Thank you Cider Mill Press for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I love Marvel, but I found this a little disappointing. It would've been a great idea for the comic panels to be paired with each quote and match the moment it happened, it could’ve worked as a nice, quick flashback to the original scene and added more impact. Overall, it was a quick and nice read, but the way it was put together made it feel a bit all over the place.
"We can rewrite our stories. All of us. Write our own happy endings. Our own redefinitions. We don't have to be what we're told to be. Even by ourselves" - Loki
I found this a little disappointing. The curation of the quotes and the accompanying artwork seemed a little haphazard. Certain classic quotes accompanied by random comic panels that don't reference the quote in question. Other quotes matched with attractive, but not specific to the quote character art. And for some reason every quote got its own page except "Hulk Smash" and "It's Clobberin Time" which had to share.
Could have been better organized, it wasn’t chronological, by type of quote or by type of character. No theme at all.
The illustrations are clear and colourful, the quotes and cover are nicely designed in a layout that beautifully contrasts the artwork. For fans of the series, be it the comics or the movies, there are recognisable and trademark quotes that any level of fan can connect with.
Not a lot of depth or new details for die-hard fans but a pretty publication nonetheless. This is a nice coffee table book or collectible to decorate a Marvel comic book fan’s shelf.
Thank you to Cider Mill Press and NetGalley for this ARC for review; all opinions are my own.
Many thanks to Cider Mill Press, Robb Pearlman and Netgalley for this advanced copy
As a lifelong comic fan I thoroughly enjoyed flicking through this collection of quotes. The mix of iconic lines and some lesser-known gems, paired with colourful artwork, made it a cheerful trip down memory lane. While it’s a quick read and not deeply analytical, the charm lies in revisiting favourite characters and their memorable words. Perfect for a casual browse, coffee-table display, or a gift for anyone who’s grown up loving these heroes.
This is a good book to gift to someone who loves Marvel characters. There are a few quotes here and there that feel deeply insightful, but for the most part it showcases the famous key phrases associated with popular Marvel Comics characters, such as "It's clobberin' time!" for The Thing and "To me, my X-Men!" for Professor X. The design and art featured in the book are well-chosen, so if you want a book that is a simple delight for the Marvel fan in your life, I think this fits the bill.
Thanks to Cider Mills press and Netgalley for this eARC.
Marvel comics addict will enjoy this book, the graphics are my favorite part. If you are looking for a very quick read of some of the best Marvel character quotes, from The Wolverine, Thor, Loki, Storm and more, with stellar graphics, you will find it here!
Great coffee table book for any Marvel or MCU fans.
I enjoyed the layout of quotes and panels. As others have mentioned, I was hoping for some more obscure quotes to be included but overall a very nice-looking book that’s a quick easy read and also easy to pick up randomly to flip through and read a quote here and there.
"Change always comes. What matters is how you face it.” -Spiderman Thanks to netgalley & Cider mill press for this! There is a great variety of quotes in this book. From inspiring to hilarious! I have a somewhat limited knowledge of marvel, but I found the book interesting. If you’re a big fan of marvel then you’ll probably really enjoy this.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own. This book is definitely an example of style over substance. It’s nicely designed and has a graphic punch, but there isn’t anything new here. The iconic quotes are paired with random panels, which provide no context.
It's a decent collection. Quotes and art from the comics. I dropped a star, because it left out the classic Thor quote, "Ultron. We would have words with thee."
Quotes? More like catchphrases. Marvel fans looking to read new quotes from their favorite characters will be disappointed as the book is filled with basic quotes like “Hulk Smash.” At least they saved the best for last: “Chimichanga” - Deadpool. Hahaha!
Loved it. Very quick read, so it definitely could have been a lot longer! Like, encyclopaedia style length - that would be epic. But I still enjoyed it. The graphics are fantastic. More pages, please!
A fantastic collection for any Marvel fan! The book masterfully pairs iconic and lesser-known quotes from decades of Marvel comics with stunning comic panels and illustrations, making it a treat for both new and longtime fans. The art panels are well-chosen and help bring wisdom and wit of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to life. It was interesting to see how the art styles have changed over the decades. It's a quick, enjoyable read that's great for reminiscing about classic lines or discovering new ones. This would be a great gift for a casual reader or a dedicated collector.
Thank you to NetGalley and Cider Mill Press for an advance copy of this book.
This one was a really fun collection of quotes and panels on pages from a wide variety of Marvel comics that demonstrated the huge range of stories and characters the universe has to offer. I've really enjoyed all these fun books that Robb Pearlman has been putting out.
Special Thanks to Cider Mill Press and Netgalley for the digital ARC. This was given to me for an honest review.
