4.2💕 I adore that book. Cute story about hopeless romantic and total grumpy Mr Love doesn’t exist guy. Jude is detective writer who needs to add more romance in his stories and here we have Emily, audiobook narrator and girl who belies that love is everywhere. And of course they gonna spend Christmas proving who is right or wrong
Tropes 💕Grumpy x Sunshine 💕Forced collaboration 💕Writer/reader pairing 💕Christmas magic 💕Slow-burn to sweet payoff
Even that some moments were too predictable I enjoyed that. I enjoyed Christmas vibe, I enjoyed how we saw more about characters just through their families. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s not trying to be. Cornish Winter’s Kiss is comfort reading at its finest — like hot chocolate in book form. Perfect for romance lovers, holiday binge readers, or anyone needing a little plot twist of joy.
Thanks NetGalley for opportunity to read that ARC in exchange of honest review 💕
Emily Anderson is a romance audiobook narrator who lives and breathes love stories, even if her own romantic life feels more like a tearjerker than a fairy tale. Still, she holds out hope that her own happily-ever-after is out there somewhere — perhaps just beyond the next chapter. Jude Cavendish is her opposite in every way: a bestselling crime author with a cynical streak, currently battling severe writer’s block. When his publisher insists he add a romantic subplot to his next thriller, he’s appalled — until Emily is suggested as the perfect guide to help him find the “heart” in his work. She's all warmth and optimism; he’s brooding and bitter. As the two collide in the most charming Cornish setting at Christmas, their creative collaboration becomes something deeper, and both must confront their pasts and decide if love is more than just a genre trope.
Sometimes, a book wraps itself around your heart like a cozy scarf on a frosty day — and A Cornish Winter’s Kiss by Jo Bartlett does exactly that. With a cozy Christmas setting, lovable characters, and a delightful opposites-attract dynamic, Jo Bartlett weaves a story that feels like a festive hug. Jo Bartlett was a new-to-me author in 2025, and what a lovely discovery she’s been. This was one of those stories that made me smile through so many chapters, and yes, I devoured it in just a couple of days. It’s the kind of book you finish with a full heart and a TBR list that’s just grown by several Jo Bartlett titles.
The heart of this novel are Emily & Jude. These are characters you’ll fall for. This is a story about healing, second chances, and the courage to believe in love again. It’s also about the transformative power of connection — both professional and personal — and how joy can bloom in the most unexpected places.
Emily is the kind of character you root for from page one — bubbly, hopeful, and genuinely kind. She's the embodiment of a modern romantic: someone who chooses joy and softness in a world that often doesn't return the favor. Her optimism isn’t naïve; it’s earned, and that makes her emotional journey all the more touching. I was particularly touched by Emily’s relationship with her parents—especially the honest, tender portrayal of her mum’s health challenges. These moments grounded the book with genuine heart.
Jude, on the other hand, is deliciously grumpy with layers of unresolved trauma and emotional walls that make his transformation all the more rewarding. He’s not just "grumpy" for the sake of trope — he’s a man whose past has shaped his present, and watching him rediscover wonder and warmth is incredibly satisfying. Jude’s backstory is equally compelling. His struggle with past grief, abandonment, and identity brings a layer of realism to his guarded nature. One subplot involving the search for his birth mother was especially poignant—I wished it had been explored even further. Even the supporting characters shine — Emily’s parents are delightful, especially with hilarious touches like their dog named Gary Barlow (yes, really).
Jo Bartlett’s writing is smooth and comforting, with just enough wit to keep things light and just enough emotional depth to make you feel invested. The dialogue sparkles, the pacing is spot-on, and the setting — the windswept Cornish coast in winter — is rendered with such charm, you can almost feel the sea spray and smell of Christmas dinner. Is it a little predictable in places? Sure. But sometimes, predictability is part of the joy — like knowing exactly how your favorite Christmas movie will end, but watching it anyway because it makes your heart full.
Whether you’re a romance junkie, a holiday fiction enthusiast, or just someone craving a satisfying story with lovable characters and a few emotional plot twists, this book will hit the spot.
I stayed up until 1am because I had to finish this book. I absolutely fell in love with Emily and Jude. The writing was so good I was feeling every emotion. I rarely cry while reading a book, but this one had me crying multiple times. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. I will immediately be adding more Jo Bartlett books to my TBR. Thank you Boldwood Books and Netgalley for the ARC.
Kobo+ December Reads. Christmas 2025. This is the first book I have read by this author. Tropes: Christmas Romance, Contemporary Romance, Forced Proximity, Grumpy/Sunshine.
MC's h. Emily Anderson, 20+ loves to read Romance and is waiting for her soulmate to suddenly appear. She used to work as a librarian but the city closed the library, but her bestfriend from Uni, found a data entry job in London for her. She is on her way home to Cornwall for Christmas with her family.
H. Jude Cavendish, 20+, author of Murder Mysteries. His publisher wants him to include romance in his next book. He hasn't had any experience doing that so he seeks Emily's help.
Christmas in Cornwall. Jude's editor tells Jude his current crime thriller series will be cancelled unless he can have the main character develop a relationship to keep him on the bestseller list. Jude meets Emily an audio book reader, while she is performing a live reading of one of Sophia Wainwright's (Best seller romance icon) books . He likes how she makes the story believable and relateable and hires her to help him fix his character and novel. Can Emily show Jude anything that will change his mind? I enjoyed this in depth journey into Jude's lack of love in his life and his struggle to believe love exists. It was a clean romance focusing on the intellectual and emotional basis in a relationship with just the mention of physical intimacy with the elements of Christmas with their respective families thrown into the mix. I was moved and really felt for the main characters and had my fingers crossed for a HEA. I gave this four stars.
This is such a sweet story! Emily is a ray of sunshine. She just loves romance stories and, quite accidentally, falls into doing audiobook narration for her favourite romance author. Jude is the ultimate grump. He doesn't like Christmas and doesn't believe in unconditional love. He believes 'love' is transactional. To be fair, he has some good reasons to feel that way. His agent suggests adding some romance into the crime novels he writes to boost his readership and, after his initial horror at the suggestion and then hearing Emily narrate, he asks her to help him see what love looks like. This is a wonderful, sweet friends-to-lovers romance. Some fun easter eggs pop up from the author's Cornish Country Hospital series too. Loved it! Thanks to Netgalley, Boldwood Books, and Jo Bartlett for the free ARC. All opinions are my own.
This is just the most romantic of reads. I know I’m always in for a treat with Jo Bartlett books, and this one gave me all the emotional feels. I loved both Emily and Jude’s back stories - their lives and families so different. Drawn together through their lives in the literary world, I loved seeing Emily open Jude’s eyes to romance. Emily’s family were wonderful and I loved their chaos at Christmas time - following those treasured traditions each and every year. Being back in Cornwall with some familiar friends from the other stories from Jo has been special and it’s always a treat to meet up with Gwen again.
Emily is a hopeless romantic. She meets Jude who is the exact opposite. Jude is also a writer who enlists Emily’s help in adding some romance to his next book. I liked Emily from page one. Jude took me a little longer to like. It’s a nice story leading up to Christmas. It’s perfect for all romance lovers
I read this in one day. I liked the characters of Jude and Emily a lot. It felt real. It kept good pace and my heart ached for Emily at the beginning as her past unfurled in front of her. Jude was bitter and needed joy and Emily brought that light and love to it. This was a great book. Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange of an honest review.
Emily Anderson has always believed in romance, even if her life seems not to align with her hopes. As an audiobook narrator, she spends her days bringing romance stories alive and yearns for her HEA.
Jude Cavendish is a crime author who doesn’t believe in romance. However, with his writing block troubling him and the publisher’s request to add a love track to his latest novel, he needs some outside help and fast!
Emily and Jude are determined to prove themselves right. With Christmas magic in the air, both might get what they want and more!
The story comes in Emily and Jude’s third-person POVs.
My Thoughts:
Is it time for Christmas reads? Who cares? I see a book with a snowy cover and title, and I grab it. ;)
I love that the book is dedicated to Emily, the author’s editor. It’s a sweet gesture.
The first chapter could also be a prologue since it shows the FMC’s career growth. This is a good way to share the backstory and establish her character without a ton of info dump.
It is a small book, but it is on the slower side. However, the story doesn’t drag much. It’s not exactly a love story and blends with women’s fic, which works in its favor.
The romance is also a bit of a slow burn and closed door, which again, aligns with the plot. It is a proper cozy read despite a few heavy themes.
As you can guess, the book touches upon the hot topic of the popularity of the romance genre, the disdain against it, etc. It also highlights how the right audiobook narrator can elevate the emotions and take the book to the next level. I read this often in my friends’ reviews.
The MMC is a proper grump, but he manages to show his vulnerability enough for readers not to hate him for some of his comments. He slowly learns, so that’s good.
The FMC is sweet, optimistic, and kind. It’s easy to like her. We are told she’s only five feet and one and a half inches tall. But this aspect doesn’t play into the plotline after the initial mention. Even on the cover, you don’t see this. The guy would have to be 5’4” or so for them to look like that couple (unless the FMC has four-inch heels to walk in the snow). I am someone short (but taller than the FMC), and I prefer for short people's representation to be more than just a mention.
The setting is beautiful, with the added charm of snow and Christmas decorations. The side characters (FMC’s family and friend, MMC’s stepmom, etc.) shine in their limited roles. They are supportive, friendly, and good people.
The dogs, Rufus and Gary, are bonus sprinklers on hot chocolate. They lighten up the mood quite a few times.
To summarize, A Cornish Winter's Kiss is a heartwarming and cozy book about family, friendships, love, and hope. It should make for a good autumn read, too.
Thank you, Rachel's Random Resources and Boldwood Books, for the eARC. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.
A chance meeting on a train with a favourite romance author brings a new career for librarian Emily – instead of reading stories to children (which she does extremely well), she becomes an audiobook narrator. Meanwhile Jude, a successful crime writer, is struggling – he’s been told to introduce some romance into his next book, it’s something he knows little about, and he doesn’t know where to start. The pair begin to work together – if anyone knows how to engage a romance audience, it’s Emily – and she sets about introducing him to a range of experiences hoping he’ll pick up some ideas for bringing some love into his writing.
It’s a useful start – but they’re not quite there yet. And as it’s Christmas, Emily’s about to disappear to Cornwall to spend time with her family – and that forces him to make some decisions about his own Christmas plans, or he’s never going to hit that deadline. And, just maybe, and although he hates Christmas and still doesn’t really believe in love, she’s started to make his heart beat a little faster…
This is one of those wonderful books where I’d love to tell you how the story unfolds – but I think you really need to discover it for yourself. I will say though that I thought it was absolute perfection – two very different individuals who I grew to love, both very real, dealing with all sorts of issues, their relationship steadily growing, and a story filled with emotion. There are some wonderfully handled family moments (the supporting cast is particularly strong), problems with honesty and trust, a number of barriers to any chance of a happy ending – all played out against a backdrop that will be so familiar to many.
I never really think of romance books in terms of “tropes” – this one is certainly grumpy/sunshine, but is so much more than that. There’s plenty of lightness and laughter, but real emotional depth too – and a story with unexpected twists and turns, beautifully told, that completely engaged and delighted me from beginning to end. There are so many special moments I really want to tell you about (and not only Gary Barlow…) – I’m sorry though, my lips are sealed, but I promise you’ll enjoy this book every bit as much as I did. And don’t worry about the Christmas setting – it’s certainly particularly special, but there’s no real reason why this book needs to sit on your reading pile while waiting for the festive season. I absolutely loved it…
Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the arc of this cozy and festive romance.
If you’re in the mood for a cozy, heartfelt romance with festive charm and a strong emotional core, A Cornish Winter’s Kiss by Jo Bartlett is the book for you. Set in Port Agnes, Cornwall, during the holiday season, this story is a warm cup of coco on a snowy winter's night.
This story follows Emily, an audiobook narrator with a deep love for romance novels and an even deeper belief in real love, and Jude, a bestselling crime writer who doesn’t believe in love at all. When Jude’s editor insists that his detective needs a love interest, he hires Emily to help him understand what love really looks like. What begins as a working partnership slowly evolves into something more meaningful, as Emily’s warmth and optimism begin to melt Jude’s icy exterior.
Emily is hopeful, grounded, and full of heart. Her love for her family, the holidays, and romance in all its forms brings a festive spirit to the pages. Jude, on the other hand, is a stubborn grump with a complicated past. His journey through healing and rediscovery adds a powerful emotional layer to the book. Watching him gradually open up and let go of the idea that love must always be transactional is both touching and rewarding.
My only qualms with this book is that it felt like Jude's story was a bit repetitive at times causing the pacing to be a little slow in spots. I would have also loved to know how his own book turned out after adding a romance element.
This story has strong Hallmark vibes with cozy winter dog walks, meaningful conversations, healing, and of course, a heartwarming romance. It’s grumpy-sunshine at its best, with a slow-burn love story and sweet, closed-door intimacy. Bonus points for their dogs becoming fast friends.
A Cornish Winter’s Kiss is a warm, festive romance about learning to believe in love again, even when it seems impossible. A perfect read for fans of emotional, small-town charm, and holiday magic.
Emily Anderson narrates romances for a living and fully believes her happily ever after is just one well-timed meet-cute away. Jude Cavendish writes about dead bodies and heartbreak and looks personally offended by the concept of mistletoe. So when his publisher demands he add a romantic subplot to his thriller, Jude looks like someone just asked him to co-write a Hallmark movie. Cue Emily, armed with holiday spirit, optimism, and just enough chaos to ruin this man’s commitment to emotional repression.
This is textbook grumpy meets sunshine but with enough cinnamon-sugar angst to make you misty. Emily is lovable without being perfect, constantly juggling her mum’s illness, her self-worth, and the exhausting job of always being the emotional support human. Jude starts off full porcupine, but watching him thaw? Delightful. Frustrating. Worth every grumble.
Cornwall shines like a Christmas postcard, complete with dogs named Rufus and Gary Barlow (yes, really), parents who make you cry and laugh in the same scene, and the kind of background magic that makes everything feel charmed even when it’s messy. Jude’s whole abandonment-adoption-family mystery storyline has depth, even if the emotional wrap-up hits a little too fast and too clean.
If you’ve read any holiday romance ever, you’ll see the clichés coming. But Jo Bartlett leans in hard, and it works. There’s comfort in the familiarity. The point isn’t surprise; it’s satisfaction. You want the clichés, the slow burn, the dramatic miscommunication, and you want them delivered with charm. Mission accomplished.
And look, the chemistry? They’ve got it. The writing sessions, the subtle glances, the heart-spill scenes in cafés... it’s slow and cozy and intimate without ever getting truly spicy, but it works because the tension builds from mutual respect and actual connection. Imagine yelling at a man about why love matters and watching him fall for you mid-rant. That’s the vibe.
The audiobook subplot adds another meta layer that works so well, especially when Emily’s idol Sophia Wainwright shows up like a fairy godmother with deadlines. It’s a neat little mirror to the central theme of how stories shape people, and how the right voice can make you believe in something you thought you’d outgrown.
A few plot threads tie up faster than expected, but honestly? When the book is this warm and charming, you forgive the shortcuts. The dialogue sparkles, the characters feel real, and the emotional hits land with surprising force for something that feels like reading a mug of peppermint mocha.
So yeah, this gets 4 stars. Because it made me laugh at dog karaoke, cry at a father-son conversation, and briefly consider throwing my phone across the room when Jude said the dumbest possible thing at the worst possible time.
Merry Mayhem Prize: For Dragging a Cynical Crime Writer Kicking and Screaming Into Love via Dogs, Pastry, and Sheer Determination
Huge thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the ARC. I’ll be microwaving old cocoa, watching The Holiday (again), and pretending Cornwall is just a train ride away.
I know, I know. Christmas in July might sound a little nuts, but when it comes to Jo Bartlett’s charming storytelling, I’ll gladly make an exception. There’s something enchanting about diving into a delightful story that makes you lose all concept of time, and that’s exactly the experience I had with this book.
The story revolves around Emily Anderson, a hopeless romantic and a daydreamer who, in a twist of fate, lands her dream job as a voice actress narrating the works of her favorite romance writer. Jude Cavendish is a brooding crime author who crafts gritty thrillers. But here’s the kicker, Jude’s publisher insists he needs to shake things up by adding a love story to his latest manuscript. To Jude, love is nothing but a foolish distraction. When he reluctantly enlists Emily's help, sparks fly, setting off a delightful chain reaction that alters their lives forever.
What I love about Emily is her unwavering spirit. She has this incredible ability to brighten everyone’s day, and, unsurprisingly, that becomes Jude's kryptonite. Before long, Jude finds himself inviting Emily on walks and dinners, often acting like he’s just trying to be nice while secretly wrestling with the possibility of change.
When Jude’s walls begin to crack the reader is allowed a glimpse of his heart that is carefully hidden. Yet, love is rarely straightforward. Poor Jude. The healing journey is complex, and he is grappling with deep-seated wounds. It's Emily’s infectious optimism that helps him embrace a love he never thought he needed.
This book wouldn't be complete without the lovely supporting characters of Jude's and Emily's family and friends. I especially adored Jude's stepmom Viv who loved Jude the way a mother should. And let’s not overlook those cute pups, Rufus and George Barlow—two best buds that could teach us all a thing or two.
So here’s to Emily and Jude, and the beautiful messiness of love. It’s not always easy, and it rarely goes according to plan, but sometimes that just makes the story all the more captivating. You never know what’s waiting around the corner or who might just change your life.
If you’re looking for your next summer read that proves love can surprise us all, pick up this book. You won’t regret it!
Thank you to Ms. Bartlett for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
This was a nice story to read after the darker books I have finished! Emily loves romance- in books, movies and life. Although she has been unlucky in the romance department, she still believes that she will find her true love one day. Jude Cavendish is an author that writes crime, and does not believe in love. However, his book sales have gone down, and his editor and publisher have told him to somehow incorporate a romance into the story with his main character of the series. Jude begins reading a famous romance author, but cannot get into it. He decides to listen to the audio book, and is instantly taken in by the voice of the narrator- it is Emily. Jude then asks her to help him understand this love thing so that he can write it into his story in a way that is authentic to him and his main character. Emily then takes him around and shows him different places and they "people-watch" and discuss what he sees and how it relates to love. Needless to say, they start falling for each other.
Emily is very close to her family, and they begin inviting Jude to partake in some of their traditions. Jude's family is a bit fractured- and this is part of his struggle in accepting love. There is some tension between the two, as they become attracted to each other, they have to find a way to bridge the differences in their views.
This was a nice story, and the characters were very likable. The one thing I struggled with is that it got a little repetitive with the characters inner thoughts/struggles/rehashing of their past. But I was engaged, and it is an uplifting, lighter story!
Out Now ….. Boldwood Books Emily Anderson adores romance-both in books and in real life (though her own love life is more ‘tragic subplot’ than ‘happily-ever-after’). But as Christmas magic sparkles over the Cornish coast, Jude starts to wonder... what if Emily’s right? 🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴 Ok so reading a book based in the Winter time, when I’m laying down with a fan to cool me , felt odd 🤣 BUT soon the storyline engaged me so much, that I didn’t pay attention to that lol. I loved the 2 main characters and also their families. It shows that all families have their ups and downs but being able to talk about things is so important! Enjoyed this book so much and definitely would read another of this authors books. In fact I’m sure I have another in my ARC list by this authors books.
What a warm, feel-good story about love, growth, and letting people in—I had all the cozy feels after reading this one!
Hopeless romantic Emily believes in the fairy tale of love, even if it hasn’t happened to her (and she’s not sure it ever will). She scores a job as an audiobook narrator and charms listeners wherever she goes.
Grumpy crime author Jude has been burned big time by his own family and an ex who shattered his belief in love. He doubts anyone has ever loved him or ever will. And when his editor demands he add a love story to his latest book, he’s beyond confounded and has no idea how to make it work. When he sees Emily at a book event and hears her narrate a romance, bringing it to life and making the ridiculousness sound real, he hopes she can help him.
As they both spend time on the Cornish coast, grappling with feelings, working, trying to convince each other to see things their way, things get a little more complicated. Jude has never let anyone in—has never really had anyone to let in—yet he finds himself telling Emily things he’s never told anyone.
I LOVED this book! It was so adorable, cozy, and sweet, with real feelings and hope. Both characters, but especially Jude, are going through some challenges and leaning on each other. I loved how their relationship developed, how things were sometimes difficult, how they seemed so right for each other, and how lovely the ending was!

Could the festive season bring them both the plot twist they never saw coming?
My Opinion
I have read a few books by Jo Bartlett and they have all been enjoyable. A Cornish Winter’s Kiss was such a sweet, festive read. Jo Bartlett has created some characters that were easy to connect with. A comforting read.
Set against the picturesque backdrop of Port Agnes, Cornwall, during the enchanting holiday season, this heartfelt romance weaves together festive charm and profound emotional change.
At the centre of the story is Emily, a talented audiobook narrator renowned for her engaging interpretations of romantic tales. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she crosses paths with Jude, a once-successful author of gritty crime novels. After receiving disheartening news about a significant decline in his book sales, Jude is driven to rethink his writing strategy. In a bid to revitalise his career, he is told by his editor to explore the concept of love, believing that incorporating a romance subplot for his lead detective might rekindle readers’ interest.
Teaming up with Emily, who brings her expertise in romantic narratives to the table, Jude embarks on a journey to uncover what true love looks like. As they navigate their creative collaboration, their interactions bloom with chemistry and mutual understanding, revealing layers of vulnerability and growth in both characters.
I found Jude and Emily's characters to be incredibly relatable and well-developed, which made their evolving relationship feel authentic. The pacing of the story kept me engaged from start to finish. While some plot twists were a bit predictable, the warmth and charm of their romance made the reading experience thoroughly enjoyable.
This is a wonderful book that would make even a hardened cynic believe in love.
For that is exactly what Emily is trying to do, she needs to make Jude believe in just about any sort of love, so that he can make his detective are more rounded character that readers will buy into. But due to his upbringing and the way life has treated him, he is closed off to the the idea that love is anything other than a transaction.
Emily is also a massive Christmas fan and is a bit surprised the Jude doesn't seem overly keen at first on the season either.
This isn't just about romantic love but family love, and even friendship. And not just in human form either as Gary Barlow and Jude's dog are clearly besotted with other.
I was delighted to see a familiar setting of Jo Bartlett's Cornwall and I was even happier to see a cameo from my all time favourite of her characters. But don't panic, this is definitely a standalone novel, its not part of a series, just the author putting in easter eggs for her dedicated fans, of which I am one.
Between romance, Christmas, the insight into a crime authors mind, and Emily's wonderful family, especially her mother, this is a really enjoyable festive story, where we are just hoping for a Christmas miracle for Jude!
Truly enjoyable, what a great book this is.
Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
ARC provided via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I'm not quite sure why this is being released in July given that it's lovely and Christmassy but I can read Christmas books all year so I didn't mind.
I'd never read anything by this author before but I'll definitely look to read more books by them in the future. A Cornish Winter's Kiss is such a sweet romance between Emily and Jude but there's so much more to it as well. I love the fact that Emily's parents' dog is called Gary Barlow, it's such a funny detail. Emily's parents are great characters and so positive despite her mum, Patsy's health issues, which are treated with sensitivity.
I can understand why Jude didn't believe in love at the beginning of the book given everything he's been through with the tragic passing of his adoptive mum when he was only 10 and then his horrible, meddling stepmother, Sandra.
I got really involved in Jude struggling to decide whether to try and find his biological mother and would've liked the author to take the storyline even further. The only quibble I have with the plot is Jude's relationship with his father because I've got a similarly complicated relationship with my Dad and I felt like it was resolved a little too quickly but that's probably a personal preference.
There are several layers to this story which attract me to the book. The first has to be the stunning setting in Cornwall which is always a favourite for a read. Then there are some familiar faces from Jo Bartlett's other series who turn up in the story and give us a window into their lives. The family, friends and community you meet give the story warmth and depth and the characters credibilty. Both central characters are so likeable with some vulnerabilities but some really strong characteristics. The festive touches add to the magic of the story. Finally, I love the references to fiction, especially romcoms with the tropes and situations woven in.
Emily is the sunshine to Jude's grumpy demeanour, especially where romance is concerned. Emily has not given up hope that a happy ever after will be possible for her, whilst Jude cuts off any promise of love. You sense the reasons for this as you learn more about his childhood and his relationships with his parents. Jude has built a monumental wall around his feelings, which Emily, with her caring family has never had to do. As you follow Emily's attempts to show Jude that love exists for some in a selfless manner, you hope that they both will see the light and put down their defences.
In short: grunpy- sunshine and a festive touch Thanks to the publisher
A Cornish Winter's Kiss is such a fun romance. Most definitely grumpy meets sunshine with Jude’s firm belief that love doesn’t exist and those who believe in it are nothing but fools, and Emily’s embracing love in all forms, even if she hasn’t found her happily ever after… yet. Watching them interact, begin to change their minds, and slowly build their own love story while the magic of the Christmas season swirls around them was a delightful journey. I enjoyed the aspect of the veil being pulled back on the publishing industry, just a bit, to give us a view that we (as readers) don’t always see. Plus, add to that the fun of a romantic at heart audiobook reader meshing up with a mystery/detective writer whose books (in his opinion, thank you very much!) don’t need a romantic touch, and I was easily charmed and hooked. I had fun here, and isn’t that the entire point of picking up any book?
If you love a well-written, charming, engaging romance with a couple that you’ll easily find yourself hoping they find their happy ending, then A Cornish Winter's Kiss by Jo Bartlett is a perfect fit for you.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley, and I sincerely thank the author or publishing house for their trust. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
In this fun, heartwarming, and cozy winter romance novel, readers follow Emily Anderson, a big believer in romance for others and (eventually) herself and audiobook narrator who loves bringing stories to life, and Jude Cavendish, a crime author with writer’s block who scoffs at love stories. Forced to add a romance subplot to his next book, Jude begrudgingly seeks out Emily’s help, and she is committed to helping him realize that love is real against the backdrop of a Cornwall Christmas season. As they spend time together, the two of them might discover that Christmas magic is enough for a happy ending. With a classic grumpy-sunshine trope at the heart of the book and other fun tropes included throughout, readers will love the holiday backdrop and great chemistry between the characters in this fun new romance novel. Emily and Jude are well-written, complex characters, and their relationship is really fun to follow because of the tropes and the background factors that bring them together. The setting is detailed and acts as a fantastic backdrop for the two characters’ relationship and their continued tropey interactions. With great characters with fantastic chemistry, readers will really enjoy this holiday and winter romance novel.

An amazing story . Emily is all about romance and is very lucky when she meets her favorite author and she suggest to be her audiobook narrator for her next book . Now three years later she works for a lot authors and she is very happy doing it . Jude Cavendish is an author who writes crime but his publisher asks him that it will be better if he add in his next book a love story for his main character . Jude is not believing to romance and thinks is for fools so he has problem to write romantic scenes . His publisher tells him to ask help from Sophia Wainwright his company best romance author . But when he went to meet her he was absorbed by Emily's way of reading and he end up asking her to help him finish his book . Emily is trying very hard to prove him that love is real but he is very open to change his opinions . When she has to visit her parents for the Christmas at Port Agnes he also go there because his father's family is living near and he must visit them for Christmas . Spending every day talking and sharing secrets they come closer and they fell in love . Will she be able to heal his wounds ? A Cornish Winter's Kiss is an adorable romance. Emily Anderson, while not lucky in love, believes in fairytales and romantic love. She's moved up in her career to be the most sought after audiobook narrator, primarily working for best selling author, Sophia Wainwright. Jude Cavenish is cynical when it comes to love, romantic or any other type. That's why he's a crime author. When his agent insists the additional of personality and a softer side, Jude turns to Emily for help. Emily is very patient with Jude considering she doesn't understand his skepticism.
Emily is very much the sunshine to Jude's grumpy. She's positive, bubbly, family oriented, and believes in HEAs and the magic of Christmas. Jude is pessimistic about life, love, family, and Christmas. I loved watching Jude open up and become more vulnerable the longer he spends time with Emily.
A Cornish Winter's Kiss is a great grumpy-sunshine romance. I love the characters and the setting. The author wrote this story with realism. I was drawn in by the synopsis and kept engaged by the wonderful writing, fantastic characters, and vivid imagery.
