🍼 Accidental pregnancy
💀 Dead brother, rival MC
😭 Heart wrecking redemption

From USA Today best selling author, Scarlett Cole, writing as S. Cole, comes a forced proximity, grumpy versus guarded, electrifying small town MC romance.

Greer
The night I was fired as a surgeon, a dying man told me a secret I wasn’t supposed to hear.
Now someone wants me quiet—and a biker bleeding out in the parking lot might be my only escape.
I didn't plan to take him home and remove his bullets on my dining table.
Yet, for seven days, he’s the calm in my chaos.
We break rules. Cross lines.
Then he’s gone.
But five weeks later, I find him at the clubhouse—and hand him a note with two words that change everything.

Butcher
I should’ve bled out.
Instead, I ended up in the care of a woman with haunted eyes and hands that didn’t shake—even when mine did.
But Dr. Greer Hansen is too soft for a man like me. Too bright. Too good.
So I leave while she sleeps.
Five weeks later, she finds me with news that hits harder than any bullet ever could.
And the only way to keep her breathing… is to drag her into my world.
Even if she hates me for it.
Even if it costs me everything.
She walked into my world by accident, and now I'll rip it apart to keep what's mine safe.

Four-time RITA finalist, Scarlett Cole, is a contemporary romantic suspense / contemporary romance author (represented by Louise Fury at The Bent Agency) who calls both Toronto, Canada and Manchester, England home. A born city dweller, she periodically quashes the urge to live in the country by hiking up a mountain to remind herself that living away from people would terrify the pants off her.

She believes everybody deserves their love story to be told and loves her heroes on the rough and rugged side…and usually tall (because she married one of those 6ft 6” men you read about in romance!). She’s an A-type personality and Scorpio star sign, so good luck getting her to do anything she doesn’t want to.

When she isn’t writing, she’s happy to talk hot men and expensive shoes while drinking a cold gin and tonic. Don’t bring up olives. As far as Scarlett is concerned, they are the devil’s food. As long as you don’t bring up olives, she’s happy to hear from any time.

DNF at 43%. After the mmc and fmc slept together, the mmc slept with countless girl (off page.) The fmc was celibate. They were only separated for 5 weeks.

ALSO, he had cheated on his other kids’ mother countless times.

No thank you.

Well..I practically begged for this book and I definitely got what I asked for. Messy, complicated, sexy, with a splash of danger. The Heart We Guard showed us the very good and dark side and what it takes to be the leader of a notorious MC.

After reading Smoke’s story and being introduced to Butcher, I knew that I needed to know more about his character. He was very complexed and he messed up a lot in his past. Selfish at times, he had this ability to make you want to be in his orbit and just surrender to everything. Good or bad. When he gets close to knocking on death's door, his brothers bring in an outside force that is not only tough, she's a force to be reckoned with.

Dr. Greer Hansen knows how to do one thing right and that's to save lives. Known as a brilliant surgeon, she goes above and beyond for patients and that causes her to bump heads with her superior at times. Forced to take a leave of absence for pushing the limit, Greer now has to reevaluate everything about her life and career. When an opportunity arises to save another life, she doesn’t hesitate to jump into action. But little does she know that saving Butcher's life, is going to turn hers completely upside down.

Despite some hiccups with a few storyline, I really enjoyed this one and I liked that Butcher and Greer were completely opposites of each other because it worked better. Greer knew what she wanted and had no problem doing anything for herself and Butcher just genuinely wanted to take care of her which was different for him. They brought out the best in each other and I loved seeing their worlds blend together.

Even though this is the second book from the series that I've read, it was very easy to follow along and I can't wait for the next book in the series! If you're looking for an opposites attract biker romance, this one is definitely for you.

One of my favorite books this year!

Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Trope: Accidental pregnancy
Angst: 😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥1\2

What a story! Sometimes, you just really connect with the characters and become so invested that its a truly emotional experience. I laughed, I cried, and I walked away with a huge smile on my face. I loved how once Butcher was in he was all in. I loved his redemption arc with his daughter and his journey of self-actualization. How he wanted more for himself at 45 and made changes. I LOVED Greer! She was unapologetically herself and unwilling to compromise on what she knew she needed. This was not just an opposites attract, this was more like opposite worlds attract, lol, and Ms Cole just fit their pieces together perfectly. On top of the fantastic character development, the story was fast paced and had tons of action. I just can't get enough of this world and I I can't Just can't wait to see where she goes next!

The Heart We Guard is book 4 in author S. Cole Iron Outlaws MC: Colorado series.
And through dual POVs has us following President of Iron Outlaw: Colorado chapter Nolan ‘Butcher’ Deeks and Dr. Greer Hansen in this Forced Proximity, Accidental Pregnancy turned Found Family, MC Romance.

It was following along in the development of the characters storyline of Greer and Butcher that caught my attention more, particularly Greer.
Her character was quite different from the many FMC characters I have read about. Especially in all that was revealed and made known throughout the storyline, which was definitely interesting to read and learn about as the story progressed.

When it came to Greer and Butcher’s relationship, it was funny at times seeing it play out. Given the constant bumping heads for the two, more so from Greer’s part in always willing to give it back to Butcher.
Her being strong, tough and sassy always showed, though mainly in her comebacks.
And I liked that it never changed regardless of Butcher being the big, bad ass President of his MC and being in his territory.
Although even with the head butting, Butcher and Greer did manage to have their moments in being there for one another, when needed by helping each other out when the time or situation called for it. Resulting in some sweet moments between the two, leading to spice at times too.

While I did enjoy the book, considering it is an MC trope, it did have me wishing there had been more action throughout the storyline. It just seemed to be lacking in that department, at least to me.
And as for the ending, it seemed a little rushed with all that went down and how quickly it did time wise. Since it all played out within a short amount of time, only to then abruptly end.

The Heart We Guard by S. Cole made for a pleasant read. Particularly from the uniqueness bought forth in the development of the characters, allowing for something new and different to be explored within the overall story of Butcher and Greer.
And with the bonus epilogue, it has me looking forward to Grudge and Lucy’s story, The Trust We Broke next.

This was great! I somehow have missed knowing about this series, so started with book 4 here, but definitely going to go back and read the earlier ones!

Tropes:
• mc romance
• doctor fmc
• opposites attract
• forced proximity
• asexual spectrum rep
• he falls first
• accidental pregnancy

Nolan (Butcher) is the president of an outlaw biker club and when an attack on an enemy club leaves him knocking on death’s door, it’s Dr. Greer Hansen who saves his life—in more ways than one.

I really loved both Butcher and Greer! They were total opposites but fit together so well; like perfect puzzle pieces. Their chemistry was sweet and they both were very supportive of one another. I also really loved how Greer had no issues putting Butcher in his place at times. & then how Butcher was so easily considerate of Greer—whether it was her feelings, interests, and/or dreams.

Butcher is having a lot of regret and “what ifs” surrounding is life right now—from feeling like he’s failed his daughter by never really being there for her as she grew up, to wondering if his life is just supposed to be an endless cycle of girls, booze, and gun shots. His arc of a second chance at life played out really well imo. I liked seeing him take ownership of his mistakes and reconnect with his daughter and plan for his future.

Greer is a very analytical, hardworking doctor. She’s wicked smart and is always looking to put good in the world and help anyone who needs it. Losing her brother a few years back to gang violence really pushes that need to help even if it means bending the rules. I absolutely loved how the author gave us a very realistic character on the asexual spectrum! The way Greer spoke about sexuality and sex was so great and Butcher was super respectful to learning what she likes. Also, while not said—I fully got autistic vibes from Greer or at least some type of neurodivergent which was great as well.

Microtropes:
• she saves him
• he loves to eat (her)
• cute banter
• protective mmc
• morally grey actions
• dyslexia rep

Overall, I really liked this! The only reason for dropping it down to 4⭐️ was the ending felt rushed. I would have liked more time with the pregnancy and post birth with Greer, Butcher, and their baby. But I’m a huge fan of accidental pregnancy romance so that’s probably why.

Thank you to the author and TheAuthorAgency for the eARC. Review is my honest opinion.

4.5 rounded up

Greer is at her wits end. She's worked to the bone as a trauma surgeon in an understaffed ER night after night, with barely any time to breathe, let alone sleep or eat. Finally pushed to her breaking point she's forced on leave after helping a biker survive a gunshot wound and getting rightfully pissed off that he won't be applicable for any financial assistance to cover the costs. Storming out she finds another biker bleeding to death in the hospital parking lot and strikes a deal to save his life, if only to assuage her own conscience.

*****

I was so excited for the next book in this series and it definitely didn't disappoint. I wasn't expecting Greer's sexual identity and it added so much more depth to her character and logic to how her and Nolan fell for each other. Seeing him awaken a part of her that she wasn't expecting to experience was so well done, and it made me root for them long before they were an item.

I also kind of loved that Nolan was a terrible person prior to Greer. He was an awful dad, a terrible (now ex) husband, and a greedy man in bed. He drank and smoked to excess, and let his vices rule his life. Greer stepping in and showing him what a calm life looked like, and having him reassess his own after almost losing it, was such a beautiful turning point. I also love that the author never made him falter in his new life choices, and instead just focused on advancing their relationship with healthy dialogue and community.

All in all I loved this one, and can't wait for the next book in the series.

If it wasn’t for adult life, I would have devoured this book in one day!

Butcher, Butcher, Butcher. I was not a fan of his from book one when his rules were getting in the way of his daughter and enforcer’s love. But my goodness he changed my mind very quickly in his own story.
After getting patched up and cared for by Greer, leaving her and to finding out about her pregnancy, Butcher is on a mission to become a better man, of sorts. This was definitely a redemption book for Butcher and it was a blossoming book for Greer as she goes through life without intimacy and learns about herself.
Lots of action in this book from the Midtown Rebels, aw well as closure for some members of the club including Greer.
Butcher sets out to build bridges with his daughter Ember and makes some hard decisions along the way. The banter between Greer and Butcher made me smile, it was authentic and real.
Overall I really loved this story and the Colorado Chapter has carved out a place in my heart forever.

The fourth book in the Iron Outlaws MC: Colorado series, and it’s MC President, Butcher’s story in a close proximity, age gap, opposites attract romance with a surprise pregnancy and a fantastic redemption arc. This is such a great read full of emotion, and I loved this book so much.

Butcher and Greer’s story was hinted at in the last book of the series with a very unexpected surprise pregnancy announcement. This book takes us back to their first meeting, when a critically injured Butcher is taken in by surgeon, Greer, and she treats him in her home to keep him out of hospital and therefore away from potential Police interference. Alone together while he recuperates, they get to know each other, and they hold nothing back. With nothing to lose they are open and honest and vulnerable in ways that they usually aren’t, and it was so, so good watching them form an unexpected friendship and that quickly turns into more.

The world stills until it’s just me and Greer, and all I can do is take in the comfort of her. Something I didn’t know she was capable of providing and didn’t know I wanted.
It’s as if the sum of the two of us just became something more, and I’m scared of it.
I’m scared it’s a magnet, trying to pull me away from who I am and what I know.

When Butcher returns to real life, they part ways, neither of them ready for a relationship. But when Greer shows up out the blue to let Butcher know that she’s pregnant, and she’s got a rival MC threatening her, their whole lives change as he brings her into his world, determined to protect her and their child, and maybe get the second chance that he never knew he wanted.

In those few days I spent with her, it consolidated the kind of man I want to be … I can’t imagine being anything more than I already am without her.

This book really surprised me. Honestly, I wasn’t a fan of Butcher in the beginning. He embodies the life of a biker - violence, alcohol, a wild lifestyle and a revolving door of club girls, and he’s completely unapologetic about it all. After seeing his difficult relationship with his daughter, Ember in her book (#2), I didn’t really like him, and the beginning of this book didn’t really endear him to me at all. With the things he says, does and thinks, he’s really not very likeable. But it’s just the starting point.

Greer, though, is just awesome. She’s worked so hard to get to where she is, but she’s so disillusioned by the bureaucracy of her chosen career. She just wants to help people, and her huge heart is such a big part of who she is. She brings out a new side of Butcher. She accepts him for who he is, but she doesn’t take any of his crap. She sees his vulnerabilities and encourages him to be better, and he can’t help but be swept up in all that she is, and it’s gorgeous to see!

“You changed me, Doc. You’ve made me want things I didn’t deserve, so I’ve been working to earn them. I’m ready for this, Greer. Right down to my boots. I want this.”

“If I said I was falling in love with you, Butcher, would it worry you?”
He smiles softly. “I’d just tell you catch up.”

For the first time in his life, Butcher thinks about his life, what he’s done and where he’s going, and it starts a real journey for him. He’s still fierce and a badass biker, but he’s owning his mistakes and working to fix them, allowing his heart to lead him for the first time ever, and it changes everything. It’s a beautiful story of redemption that sits side by side with a gorgeous love story, and the character development is so freaking good. Butcher and Greer’s relationship has its challenges, but it’s functional, honest and super passionate, and watching Butcher trying to be a relationship guy is so freaking sweet! And it’s not just Greer, his daughter Ember is a big part of his reason to change, and as he works on his relationship with his daughter, I loved seeing him make such an effort to be there for his girls.

“I’m winging this, Doc. Don’t know what I’m doing. But until we know each other better, if I’m fucking this up, you have to tell me.”
My eyes drift closed. “You’re doing fine, Butcher.” The words are mumbled as his lips brush my forehead.
“I need to do a whole lot better than fine.”

Meanwhile, the club is facing an enemy of old and there’s a whole lot of action and drama there. I loved seeing the boys in the club again and enjoyed the friendships, brotherhood, all of the club dynamics.

There’s a lot that goes on in this book, and the different elements are tied together so beautifully. There’s so much emotion and I felt it all, and I thought this story was so well told.

Such a great read, and a fantastic progression for the series.

I loved it – 4.5 stars!

The Heart We Guard is an electrifying and sensational MC Romance. That ensnared me from the very first page and held me captive until the end.

As Butcher, the formidable President of the Iron Outlaws, embarks on an exhilarating journey of redemption filled with twists and turns. But I have to admit, I wasn't initially drawn to Butcher; especially after Wraith's story, and I had my doubts about whether he'd make a good lead character.

Yet, as the series unfolded, I began to glimpse the complexities beneath his hardened exterior—particularly during Smoke's story and when he and his brothers ride out to confront the dangerous Bratva, Butcher started to win me over.

Then came the shocking moment when he was shot. But thanks to the skilled hands of Dr. Greer Hansen, Butcher found himself granted a second chance—both in life and in love. Although at first, he struggled to embrace this newfound opportunity, yet everything shifted when Greer returned with life-altering news. And I adored how Greer wasn't afraid to challenge him, confront him about his demons, and how they genuinely listened to each other's thoughts.

And Dr. Greer Hansen emerged as an extraordinary character—multifaceted and relatable—making every scene she graced utterly unputdownable. Her poignant exchanges with Butcher and the heart-to-heart he had with King were some of the story's standout moments.

Furthermore, I was thrilled that not only did Butcher experience a cathartic redemption, but Wraith received the ultimate sense of closure too and that poignant scene in church was nothing short of breathtaking.

And with profound character development, the spirit of found family, raw emotions, intense drama, and spice. The Heart We Guard exemplifies the best MC romance, and I love that Scarlett doesn’t shy away from tackling the realities of everyday life. And I wholeheartedly believe that Scarlett Cole is an author every romance reader should explore. I cannot recommend this story and the entire series enough—it's a journey you won’t want to miss.

My thanks to TAA/S.Cole for my copy. All thoughts expressed are my own. ☺️

**Incredible Redemption**

*The Heart We Guard is the fourth book in the Iron Outlaws MC: Colorado Chapter series, and I have to say, I went into it a bit unsure about Butcher because of his past. But wow, this book totally changed my mind! It really highlighted how people can change for the better when they're given a genuine second chance and are motivated to improve. Such an inspiring read!*

When Butcher meets Geer, everything shifts in a wonderful way! She saves his life and opens up the opportunity for him to turn things around. I absolutely adore Geer! She’s such a strong and independent woman, and I really admire how she isn’t afraid to set Butcher straight when he needs it. Plus, her little moments of social awkwardness, especially when she’s outside her comfort zone, make her super relatable and endearing!

I absolutely love their slow-building romance! It led to some unforgettable moments that really take their HEA to a whole new level. I was pleasantly surprised to see Butcher find redemption like this! Plus, I never could have imagined the lengths he would go to within his club, especially for Geer. It's really exciting to see how these characters evolve! I can honestly say this series has become one of my all-time favorites in the MC genre, and it's definitely a must-read for anyone who loves a great love story! I’m thrilled about this journey and can’t wait for the next installment. Catch ya’ll then, and happy reading!

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Motorcycle club romance, he's the MC president, she's a doctor, surprise pregnancy, age gap (9 years), emotional, she's a smartie, dyslexia rep, asexual rep, hurt/comfort, forced proximity

WHOA. I read this book in a couple hours because I simply couldn't put it down. I am actually kind of mad that I didn't savor it more. Also, this books has ALL MY FAVORITE TROPES!

What I absolutely love:
*She's a surgeon and super smart
*He's the MC president and has made alot of mistakes in his life
*He gets shot and doesn't want to go to the hospital for legit reasons and she helps by taking him to her house and caring for him - THE TENSION
*He makes another mistake (surprise pregnancy moment) and has to face it
*They have a 9 year age gap and it works well
*She's in danger...bring on the forced proximity!
*THE TENSION. STEAM. SPICE. Soooooo good!
*The suspense and ending had me on the edge of my seat

What a wild, thrilling and oh so steamy ride of a book. S. COLE never disappoints with her motorcycle club romances, they hit every single time. I can't wait for the next one!

Talk about a redemption story! Butcher has been one of those characters that I was unsure about. He seemed stuck in his ways and unlikeable at times, but the key word here was “stuck.” Butcher, aka Nolan, turned out to be a complex character, questioning his role as the MC president and dealing with the weight of his regrets. When he’s on the brink between life and death, he gets the opportunity to re-evaluate his life. Enter Dr. Greer Hansen.

I adored Greer! Her social awkwardness was so endearing and relatable. She was so strong and independent, and she was funny without trying to be. I really enjoyed her “diarrhea of the mouth” as she went off on tangents during her conversations with Butcher. Greer and Butcher seemed like unlikely bedfellows, but they were so perfect together. I loved seeing them care for each other and the evolution of their slow-burn romance. Butcher delivered some swoon-worthy and unforgettable moments in his attempt to keep Greer by his side. This man really came through for her and their Pooks.

The Heart We Guard was an emotional and thrilling romance with a great redemption story, witty banter, and plenty of steam. It has become my new favorite of this series, which is a testament to Scarlett’s writing that she wrote such a complex character that went from unlikeable to stealing my heart. Butcher, I see you. Heart eyes.

Devoured this book within 24 hours!

I know I keep saying this, but this series just gets better and better with each new book.

Butcher was in no way my favorite outlaw but OMG the redemption arc he goes through in this book was so much more than I could’ve hoped for. And now I can honestly say he is one of my favorite MMC’s ever.

Butcher has made a lot of mistakes with his daughter, and his previous relationship. Life suddenly gives him a second chance and he grabs it with both hands. He’s determined to do better, be better and he absolutely does not disappoint.

And Greer is such a special FMC. I loved her so much, she’s somehow so different. I guess I identify with her on some point, especially with her need for connection in her relationships.

She’s brilliantly, smart, aware of deep societal issues, determined to stand up for what she believes in, independent, strong, amazing.

On paper, her and butcher shouldn’t make any sense whatsoever and yet they are definitely one of my favorite couples ever. I do love a more mature couple.

The story was so good, we also get some MC danger in action, but the love story is what shines through. And what the story it is!

I think this might just be my favorite in the whole series! 🖤 Butcher and Greer are the ultimate "opposites attract" couple, and their story had me hooked from start to finish.

Butcher really stole my heart—watching him work on himself to become the man Greer (and their baby!) needed was so emotional and satisfying. And Greer? she is such an adorable doctor, and I loved the way she handled whatever was thrown her way!

The best part was how raw and real their insecurities were. The book didn’t shy away from showing their vulnerabilities, and I loved how Butcher and Greer actively worked through their issues together.

I cannot wait for the next book!

Another awesome book! I couldn’t put it down. The twists in this book keeps you turning the pages. Wanting to see what’s around the next corner. Greer has people after her and not sure how to handle things. When she decides to leave town she makes a decision that changes everything for her. One stop by the Iton Outlaws changes everything for her.

Book 4 of the Iron Outlaws spin off. This one is about the club President, Butcher, and the surgeon who saved his life. After 30 years in the MC, he's looking at the ledger of his life and wondering if he's proud of the things he's done. When the opportunity to make different choices comes up, Dr. Greer Hanson makes him look at life differently. Found this one a quick read with a bit of sweet, a bit of spice and the ongoing challenges for the MC. 4 stars.

Sadly not safe

“In all the nights since I returned to the clubhouse, no amount of sex or alcohol has helped me sleep. After making love with Greer, sex with club girls seemed empty and meaningless. The first time Karlie came to my room when I got back, I had to close my eyes and pretend it was Greer sucking my cock to get off.”

DNF at 28%. I just couldn’t get behind this story line. Not sure why the author is choosing to keep adding feminist sides to these stories. I’m all for women being strong and taking up for themselves. But honestly i feel like she just drones on about it. Last book was bad and this one was just going down the same road for me.

Not the book that I was expecting especially since I’ve read all of the previous ones in the series she has written. Liked the asexual representation but it’s personally not for me, when I’m reading a romance book and especially a mc romance I’m hoping for there to actually be some smut to it. I guess I was hoping for more of the traditional biker romance/flow like her other books have had and this one just missed the mark for me

TW: violence

The Heart We Guard is book four in S. Cole’s brilliant Iron Outlaws MC : Colorado. This time we have Butcher and Greer’s story - the Outlaw and the Surgeon. An opposites attract, forced proximity, accidental pregnancy MC romance, full of tension and trauma, twists and turns
during a journey of redemption. The story continues straight on from The Fire We Crave and the MC’s attack on the Bratva which resulted in Butcher being shot. Then the epilogue gave us Greer visiting Butcher with her surprising news.

Butcher has been an Outlaw for thirty years and is their current president. He is broody, dangerous and fiercely loyal to the brotherhood until he comes face to face with his mortality when he’s shot. Luckily he is helped by a doctor who takes him to her house and saves his life.

Dr Greer Hansen is overworked and utterly exhausted. One night she treats a young guy who has been shot and this leads to a series of events that changes her life forever. Pushed to her limits, an argument with her Chief results in her being outside the hospital when Smoke arrives with Butcher. I laughed as Greer and Smoke trade threats as she drives off.

We now find out what actually happened during his time with her and how it changed his outlook on life. His injuries and how she cares for him makes him reflect on everything he has done.
Memories of how he’s messed up his life affect him and he starts to wonder what he wants out of the rest of his life. In The Oath We Take we learnt about Butcher’s relationship with his daughter Ember and his reaction to her romance with his enforcer Atom. While recovering he feels guilty over how he handle everything with them and how he wasn’t a good father.

He falls first but knows she too good for him and his lifestyle so reluctantly leaves. However, her unexpected visit to the MC results in him having a second chance in love and fatherhood. He not only sees Greer and the baby as a fresh start but an opportunity to be a better man. He knows he’s made a lot of mistakes so is this his opportunity to right some wrongs and repair his relationship with Ember. He needs to work out what type of man he wants to be and if he could

The journey this couple take is not an easy one and Greer has to work through her feelings for him as she has different needs in a relationship. She is very independent, has strong views and dreams for the future. I loved how Butcher wants to support her and how it leads him to make some huge decisions. The story concentrates on their romance, the shock of her being pregnant and its affect on everyone but we still some MC action. The trouble with the rival MC grows especially as it turns out she has a connection to them. I really liked Jackal and Shade and loved how the other old ladies accept Greer so easily, making her feel welcome.

Can this unusual couple find a way to make their relationship work and what will the future hold for them. To me one of the best bits was Wraith finally getting his revenge. Fascinated by the epilogue about Grudge and Lucy which teases us for the next book - The Trust We Broke.

4.25stars-THE HEART WE GUARD is the fourth instalment in S. Cole’s (Scarlett Cole) contemporary, adult IRON OUTLAWS MC: COLORADO erotic, MC romance series. This is thirty-six year old, surgeon Dr. Greer Hansen, and forty-five year old MC president Butcher aka Nolan’s story line. THE HEART WE GUARD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives Butcher and Greer, THE HEART WE GUARD follows in the wake of the suspension and firing of our story line heroine. Overworked, and under paid, Greer finds herself at a crossroads when she saves an injured biker against hospital policy. Suspended for her actions, Greer walks into a bloodbath when another injured biker is brought to the parking lot, and our heroine is determined to save his life. Seven days at home with a man she did not know pushes Greer outside of her comfort zone until said man disappears without a trace. Several weeks later, Greer discovers her life is about to change, and searches for the man with whom she will fall in love.

The world building follows several paths as Butcher reconsiders his future with the club and the woman that calls to his heart but a rival MC is taking aim, and our heroine is about to be targeted for what she knows.

The relationship between Butcher and Greer begins a doctor and patient but performing surgery at home is another risk to her license. Determined to save our hero’s life, Greer finds herself both doctor and friend, that quickly turns into something more. Butcher is struggling with what was in the past, and a future he never expected but Greer is the woman that calls to his heart, and in this, Butcher is ready to prove he is worthy of a second chance. The $ex scenes are provocative and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic and determined secondary and supporting characters many of whom we met in the previous instalments including Butcher’s daughter Ember and her partner Atom (The Oath We Take). There is a change in hierarchy, and a new man at the helm when all is said and done.

THE HEART WE GUARD is a story a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, murder and mayhem, family and relationships, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is thought provoking, dramatic and intense; the romance is passionate; the characters are desperate and charismatic.

I have had the earlier books in this series on my TBR for a while and I’m so upset I haven’t read them yet! I absolutely loved both Greer and Butcher and how they were both unapologetically themselves. They could not be more opposite but it just worked from the start. Greer is a brilliant surgeon who when asked to join a romance bookclub, recommends a book about suffragettes - and I could not have loved her more. After his near death experience and the time he spent with Greer, Butcher is realizing all the ways he has screwed up in life. He has an adult daughter who is with a member of his club and watching him work to repair that relationship was one of the highlights of the story for me. This book had a little action, a great main couple, funny supporting people and spice. Read it from start to finish without stopping!

Read this if you love:

🏍 Motorcycle club romance
🖤 Doctor FMC
🏍 Touch her and ☠️
🖤 Opposites attract
🏍 Accidental pregnancy
🖤 Dyslexia and asexual rep
🏍 Morally grey MMC

Literally minutes after quitting her job, Greer comes across a wounded biker with two bullet holes in his body. When he refuses to go into the hospital to be treated, against her better judgment she takes him to her house and fixes him up. While she could be making a lot more money at a better hospital, Greer's reasons for becoming a surgeon are deeply personal and all she wants to do is genuinely help people. Butcher is an old school, alpha man who is used to everyone jumping when he speaks and women dropping to their knees without even being asked. The smart mouthed doctor who saved his life is definitely not one of those people and he can't help but love the back and forth between them. The more time he spends with her, the more he longs for a different kind of life. But he knows that his life is no place for Greer so after the most incredible night he's ever had, he sneaks out of her house while she's sleeping. Not expecting to ever see her again, he's in shock when she shows up 5 weeks later with the news that she's having his baby. That and a rival MC is after her because of something a patient told her as he was being wheeled into surgery.

Determined to prove to Greer that they can have a good life together, Butcher asks her for three months to really show her how good it could be. He just needs to figure out how to keep her safe, make amends with his adult daughter, and hold off a rival club.

Thank you so much to S. Cole and The Author Agency for the ARC of this story!

This is book #4 in the series. You can read each as a stand alone, as the characters are explained in each book, or you can read the series.

Dr. Greer Hansen is a surgeon at a Denver hospital. She has already worked a 24 hr shift, and her supervisor just asked her to do surgery on an incoming gun shot wound. Once she's out she's worked 36 hrs straight. Her supervisor asked her to do more work, and she snapped. The supervisor told her to go home and cool off for a week. They were working her too hard, and she had a breaking point. On her way out to her car, a van pulls up with another gun shot victim, Butcher, with another guy in the van holding a towel over his wounds. Greer isn't sure what's going on. The people realize she is a Doctor and ask her to help out with Butcher, as he is bleeding out. Greer tells them to load him into her car, and she ran back into the hospital to get supplies. Once outside, her and one of the guys have words, that if the Butcher dies she will to! Oi!

Greer takes the man to her house, operates on him, and saves his life. He mumbles in his sleep, and she's not sure who he is talking about. Greer had texted the contact on his phone letting them know Butcher was alive and it would be a few days for him to rest and heal.

Nolan (Butcher) is the president of the Iron Outlaws MC club. He was just shot up and now Greer is taking care of him. She is an innocent in their eyes, a civilian who he has now wrapped up into his life. Greer is very book smart, and will tell Nolan the book answer for his questions he has. Greer doesn't have much of a social life, let alone dating life. She goes to work and goes home. Having Butcher in her home now throws everything off. Once Butcher is better, he leaves and goes back to his normal life.

Greer for some reason now has the Midtown Rebels trying to find her because of her last patient at the hospital. They want to know what he told her. Greer isn't sure if she should reach out to Butcher or not. She's planning her escape, but, stops by the Iron Outlaws to talk with Butcher. Of course he spoils her plan on leaving. He also finds out that the Midtown Rebels are after her. He knows he has to keep her safe.

Will Greer be able to fit into Butcher's life? Will Butcher be able to hang onto Greer? Will she be accepting of the MC Crew?

I did receive a free ARC Copy of this book. I am freely leaving an honest review.

I’m again left with mixed feelings about Butcher’s story. I couldn’t wait for this book. I’ve been excited for Butchers story since book 1 and while I absolutely loved him, I can’t say the same about Greer. I tried. I really really tried to like her. And in the beginning I did. But then slowly I started to dislike things about how she acted and thought. At times, not a lot, but at times it seemed like she thought she was better than everyone else. Like Butcher brothers and their women were beneath her. I found her to be judgmental and even though she didn’t outright ask Butcher to step down as Prez, in a way it seemed like she did.
Now Butcher, I can’t say enough about him. He really messed up with his first wife and when Ember was little. So seeing him get a second chance at his HEA with Greer and their baby was everything. And when him and Ember were sitting outside and she asked him why his and Greer’s baby was worth changing for but she wasn’t, I swear I cried. I felt her pain and hurt. I loved seeing how much Butcher was willing to give up and how he was trying so hard to redeem himself with his daughter and also his want to be better for the baby he was having with Greer. I wasn’t totally surprised that he stepped down, it was obvious he was going to, but I was still taken aback when it came time in the book.
I really enjoyed this book, except for Greer. I just couldn’t with her. Between all the sexual terms she threw around in this book (which many I found myself needing to google to know what the hell they meant); her attitude towards Butcher wanting to call her names like Princess, babe, etc; how she made a big deal when he tried to help her out of his truck or want to carry her suitcase; and god forbid should he want to take her hand and guide her down the steps, it was all too much.
The last book it felt like something with the writing style was changing and I couldn’t put my finger on what it was. But I felt it while reading this one too. While the MMC’s are staying the same and club business and dangers are still present in the stories, it seems it’s the FMC’s that are being written drastically different. And just from the little glimpse we had of Lucy in this book, it looks like she may be another Greer. I hope not. But regardless, I’m still here for this series and can’t wait for Grudge’s story next! I love a second chance romance!

Review:
This book is part of a series, and I am loving it. The author has a way of writing mc romances that have an awesome storyline and that keep you engaged. I loved how the FMCs sexuality is discussed in a way that is respectful. I loved that I got to see and hear from FMCs and MMCs from previous books. This book really was about being given a second chance in life and choosing to do what you have to do to take it. The growth of the MMC was well written. The fact that the MMC decided to heal his relationship with his daughter and move forward...

I look forward to the next book.

I absolutely did not like Butcher at all - until this book. You never see a soft side of him and honestly, I didn’t expect him to get a story but here we are and I’m wondering where this loving, protective man has been.

Starting directly from the previous book, Butcher has been shot and is patched up by a surgeon (Greer) who has some drama of her own. She takes him home and cares for him while he’s healing. She’s not too thrilled about it, but the offer of money is too good to pass up now that she doesn’t have a job. Her feelings about motorcycle clubs are not good at best. Her brother joined a club and was left to die in front of her by his so-called brothers. Taking care of Butcher is means to a new life.

While stuck at Greer’s house, she and Butcher begin talking and opening up to each other. They build a connection neither have experienced before. She makes him see the possibility of something else in life. But Butcher doesn’t believe he deserves a that life or a woman like Greer, so he leaves in the middle of the night back to the club.

Later Butcher finds out he’s going to be a dad and decides he has a second chance at being a good man and doesn’t want to blow it. Mending his relationship with his daughter and getting Greer to stay is foremost on his mind. He knows things must change and he is determined to make it happen. All the while a familiar enemy brings trouble to their door.

And Greer, girl has found the one person who can make her feel but she is scared to believe in it. Butcher understands she needs special care and is all too happy to do that for her and he nailed it!
I love that Butcher redeemed himself in the best of ways. Believing in himself and recognizing he can change his life’s focus and it wont cause a disaster. I love Greer for Butcher. She takes no prisoners and gives as good as she gets lol! These two together are perfect.

Thank you, Scarlett, I didn’t know I needed Butcher’s redemption but I’m so glad you gave I to him. The way you found a way and words to give him that is a testament to your writing.

Now Grudge – what pray tell do you have in store for him – I can’t wait.!!

I know that I have a strong connection with the characters in a book or series I am reading when my emotions are heightened. Intense emotions are what I crave, and I have to say that S. Cole’s Iron Outlaw series hits the bullseye, EVERY SINGLE TIME!

I cried whilst reading The Heart We Guard. There are scenes that had me reaching for the tissues and that’s all due to my connection with and love for the incredible characters in this series. I mentioned in my review of The Fire We Crave that S. Cole's MC leading men need the largest ‘book boyfriend’ pedestal possible and solely for themselves. Well move over guys because you need to make room for Butcher who has now also stolen my heart.

The Heart We Guard is Butcher and Greer’s story and I found it intriguing. Hooked from the very first chapter, I literally could not put the book down. I thoroughly enjoyed the character development of both Butcher and Greer. I was surprised at how Butcher’s story unfolded - and I loved this. I find that I learn so much when reading a novel written by this author. Whether she touches on, for example, disabilities, sexual orientation or mental health, every scene is penned with the utmost care and consideration whilst being informative and thought-provoking, and it is Greer’s journey that did this in this instance.

The Heart We Guard is another fantastic story in this must-read series. I not only love scenes when the brothers are together – looking out for one another or simply relaxing in each other’s company, but as the series progresses and the group grows, I can say the same about their old ladies too. Everything I expect in a MC story can be found amongst the pages of this novel. Alongside the need to dry my eyes, I have been sitting on the edge of my seat and may have needed a cold shower or two! Every box ticked as expected.

I’ve said this before and I will say it again, The Iron Outlaws is quite simply the best MC series I have ever read. I am, as always, excited for the next book!!

Damn!!! That was so freaking good!!!
Been a while since the last time I read an MC romance book and this book was perfect for roping me into it again.
Never crossed my mind that the combination of the surgeon and the president of the motorcycle club would be so perfect as this book brought out.
Greer, the bright surgeon, made Butcher, the president of Iron Outlaws MC, kneel voluntarily. It was so freaking satisfying how both of them grew into the best versions of themselves because of the strong relationship they had. Greer made Butcher change to be a better man, partner, and father. But at the same time, Butcher made Greer discover that she could be out of the whatever she thought she couldn't be. Their journey was written so beautifully that I couldn't stop reading. I devoured this book and was so sad when the last page came. I want more Greer and Butcher. This book is not enough, I would be happy to read 5 books or more just about them doing their daily and mundane life which is far from mundane since it's Greer and Butcher we're talking about.
I loved Greer and Butcher's banter and their openness to each other. They were the perfect representation of how a middle-aged couple should communicate. I learned a lot from both of them in terms of spousal communication.
Greer was so refreshing heroine. I loved her so much. She was a so matter-of-fact type of woman. She was badass as a surgeon and as herself. I was so proud of her for how she handled things with Butcher.
This book has my heart in tight grip and I definitely will reread this book as my comfort read book. I could already imagine myself reread countless time in the future.

Thank you to Scarlett Cole and The Author Agency for the ARC.
