During his last night as a custodian in the hospital, Brian Aimes encounters heart surgeon, Donovan Chambers, distraught and half-drunk in his office. In an unexpected turn of events, Brian finds himself in the doctor’s condo for a night of wild, unbridled sex. ‘It was just a one-time thing’ Brian tells his best friend, Eddie, the next morning. ‘He’s from a different world.’ But Brian soon discovers that the doctor’s world isn’t so different or distant from his own after all.
Few things offend me, but adultery? Yeah, that's a FUCK NO.
In this short story, a surgeon seduces a younger hospital janitor. Said surgeon is married and has no intentions of getting a divorce. The first time the surgeon brings his boy toy around, his wife is home. But she's sleeping so it's okay.
True to form, the writing here is engaging and the sex is HAWT; the storyline, however, makes no sense, and we all know how much I HATE that. Donovan is a doctor who is having a bad night because he's lost a patient. He's sitting, drinking in his office, when Brian (college student/night janitor) comes into his office, not realizing he's still there so late. They start chatting; they're attracted to each other. Brian offers Donovan a ride home since he shouldn't be driving, and Donovan insists he spend the night since he lives out of the way, and so they can have sex (implied). Donovan is married, but we're led to believe his wife dreams of her fitness instructor...there's no evidence she's cheating just that she fantasizes about the guy, and she really only cares about Donovan's money. Brian and Donovan make it to Donovan's house, and have mind blowing sex in the living room, while the wife is asleep in the bedroom.
Here's where the author lost me. Brian leaves early because he's starting a new job at some kind of health club with special client benefits (wink wink). The next morning, Donovan sees his car outside a coffee shop and goes in to approach him but he's with a friend and there's miscommunication. Donovan thinks Brian doesn't want to be approached, and Brian thinks Donovan was so drunk he doesn't remember him. Brian heads off to work. First day at the new job. Has a client for a massage. Client is lying down on the massage table, verbally introduces himself. Both Brian and the client use assumed names (club rules). Brian realizes from his hair/build that it's Donovan....Donovan who is going on and on, spilling details of the night before to a random stranger he's known for all of 0.5 seconds. Waxing warm about how Brian rocked his world, and he regrets not approaching him in the coffee shop blah blah blah. Yeah ok.
My issues: 1) Did the conversations the night before, both in his office and at his house, happen in a wind tunnel? He wasn't that drunk; he remembered enough to notice Brian's car in a parking lot.
2) Really??
I guess both of those things COULD happen, but it killed the story for me. Such easy 'outs' when the story would have been so much stronger without them.
Let me start this off positively. I really liked the plot, the writing, the characters, how the story was developing. I really did like that about this. Snead did a good job with the writing, using words that seemed to flow beautifully and capture my attention. The characters were well written, with such depth that I found myself liking them really quickly.
The thing that has seriously upset me, however, as a gay male, is coming across homophobic language within this book. It was a serious shock to come across it and left me feeling very uncomfortable with the book. I don't know if Snead is a part of the LGBT community, but it needs to be know that using homophobic language within LGBT erotica novels is just not alright. The people reading them don't know to expect them, and they, like me, may be very upset and uncomfortable by simple words that have been used horribly towards them.
It's really a shame, I was really hoping to enjoy this whole book, and it hurts to leave it unfinished, but I just can't read on and finish this, out of fear more will crop up.
reading through the reviews posted of this book, I find it amazing that such a short story may raise so many diverse and conflicting evaluations. And for me this is positive, this shows that the writer managed to touch quite some issues that are controversial and so typical of our society - is it cheating when the partners don’t have anything in common left and try to evade their relationship through sleeping pills and one night encounters? Why does a successful doctor still feel the necessity to hide his sexual inclination in order to be accepted by coworkers and friends? Is a one night stand experienced under the influence of alcohol consensual? but let’s not be hypocrites- this story is realistic, how many times do similar encounters occur nowadays? We might not agree with how the story developed, but this is no exception.
Sexy story of one man's unhappiness and another's introduction to it. Opposites from different worlds, one dying to find what he needs and wants in his life; the other just trying to make through life.
This book was very sweet unbelievable with an open mouth aaah, about it. Meaning I was rendered speechless when Donovan too Brian, home with him, while his wife slept in the next room. Talk about nerves....!
DANG..........! I wanted the story to keep going on.............. I dont like to tell all about the story,. You just need to read it! Had to finish it, before hitting SNOOZE! THANK YOU!
The book was ok, I felt the first time with Dom and Brian should of been played out in details, I was a little disappointed with the lack of details but the author made up for it in the end.
Just what the Dr. ordered. This story was so Unexpected and so..freakin good. Quick yet satisfying! A well written short story. I want more of Donovan and Brian
It is not easy to start by outlining an erotic encounter and to turn it midway into a budding romance. Those looking for erotica will often cringe at the sudden depth of feeling and those enjoying the romance will often feel that the romance lacks real foundation and development. It happens here as well and, although I love both genres, I still feel something is missing. Writing is fairly good, though.
When Brian Aimes walks into Donovan Chambers office, he doesn’t expect to find Doctor Chambers in the office, much last nursing a bottle. And the last thing he expects is to wind up naked in the good doctors arms, on Donavan’s couch while his wife sleeps upstairs. It was Brian’s last night of employment at the hospital, so why not go out with a bang, literally. Not like he will ever see Donovan again. Or so he thought.
Short, Sexy and Steamy, my three favorite colors! I devoured this book in about thirty minutes and was surprised at just how much content was given in so few pages. You really get a feel for what each man is going through in their life, and why they so desperately crave each other. The story alternates points of view as well, which can sometimes be confusing, but I was completely engaged and engrossed the entire time. It was quite nice seeing each current situation through each mans eyes.
If you are looking for a fast, smexy, well written novella then you must grab a copy of this one!
AM Snead has ridiculously "out there" plots that have me wondering WTF goes through this chick's mind. Seriously ... 2 or 3 of the books I've tried (and FAILED) to get through [at the insistence of a friend who's reading tastes I definitely question now] have ALL either been ridiculous or truly dubiously bizarre!! Most definitely not the author for me!
This is free and I am still saying "hell no"! CHEATING?!!? You couldn't PAY me to read this!!
Wow!! I don't think when Brian went in to clean Dr. Chambers office, that he would be leaving with him. One night stand that's all it was supposed to be.
That was a short and sweet read. Yes I thought some of the lines were corny but it was funny and captivating. I recommend it if you're into that kind of thing. Well done!
Short entertaining story, a one-night stand turns into insta-love. The page count doesn't allow for too much background or character building, but the shot you are given conveys intense moments that leaves a mark.
Donavon is married and even though it is described as a marriage of convenience, some will take it as 'cheating'.
The ending is a bit quirky and fade to black - I would've liked to have seen the aftermath, semantics and all!
