Sometimes sexual healing isn't enough...
Bonnie Jones is on a mission to recapture the youth she feels her ex-husband, Keith, stole from her. Fresh out of that abusive marriage, with her young daughter Zion in tow, Bonnie has to rebuild her life from the ground up. She finds solace in her poetry journal and the ability to leave her pain on the stage at the weekly open mic poetry readings.

But when she longs for companionship, she has her choice of partners to help soothe her suffering. Her one they don't spend the night. After Bonnie falls asleep, her demons have their way with her. Eventually, they begin to invade her waking hours and no amount of writing, sex, or time with Zion can keep her from having to face them.

From the words of the intro to Betty Wright's Tonight's the Night, "... we got to do something with these words. Its happening everyday and people want to hear about it Betty..."

Wow! That is all I can say. This is so much more than just a "novel". It is man battles, of a war, so many of us fight everyday, in one way or another. Fighting, kicking, and screaming to win, to overcome is this read. I and Bonnie were one in your writings. With your narrative of this time in her life and through such vivid depictions, such brutal truths I lived through Bonnie's fears, joys, battles, triumphs, thoughts.. with her, while reading.

Genuine, brutal, honest, loving, caring, joyful, disappointing, angry.. LIFE - Vices

I loved it!
Now I'm impatiently waiting to see where that last ride takes Bonnie and I. VERY IMPATIENTLY WAITING....

Reading Vices was like riding a roller coaster. It is a captivating ride of a woman struggling through a messy divorce, coming to terms with her abusive past, being a single mother, and exploring her sexuality. The author’s vivid and descriptive writing draws you in and makes you feel as if you’re living what her main character is going through. The sex scenes are explosive and will leave you wet and wanting more. There are grammatical and spelling errors, but the story is so good, that it does not take away from it. Although the story is mostly told through Bonnie’s perspective, other perspectives are used throughout; I found myself having to reread certain parts so as not to get confused. For me, this book is about acknowledging your wounds/vices; that is the only way to remove their stigma and to break the cycle of repeating them over and over again. This is a steamy, thought-provoking novel and I can’t wait to see what else is in store for Bonnie.

Let me preface this by saying I only give five star reviews to books that I feel are life changing or thought alternating. While this book isn't a five star for me it is absolutely a good, solid read. Parts of it were like a horror movie where I wanted to cover my face and just wait for it to be over and some parts were like watching a Rocky movie, I was cheering for the comeback. The writing style was a little difficult for me to get into at first, but it didn't take long to get into the author's rhythm. The major scenes are written beautifully and powerfully; so much so that this could have been a collection of short stories about Bonnie's life. I'd recommend this book to a friend.
