Found this short and little book on my bro's bookshelf while I'm cleaning up his room. Basically, it is all about the basic Qs and As on patriarchy and the likes. Nothing special, asides it would give a great notion about women and men relationships under society framework, equality, and how we should address the key concepts of it. Another interesting part on this book, for every beginner, is the notion of patriarchy from different point of views: marxist feminist, socialist feminist, radical feminist, and the liberal ones. Further elaboration is worth reading over aside this book. South Asia is the arena of experience where the book have explained more. Well, reading this thing is like return back to the gender class at undergrad uni: 101 for all students.
it is 38 pages long, short, but unnecessarily long at the point of describing the patriarchal system and has a very good expression, narrative language.
I said unnecessary length to describe the patriarchal system because there is no need to describe the patriarchal system at length, which does not have any doctrine, has not reached any philosophical competence (such a problem has not happened throughout history anyway), is a symbol of shallowness and corruption. You know, the patriarchal system is shit! it would have been more effective if he had said and finished the book. Aside from the jokes, the author Bhasin has explained the functioning of the patriarchal system and the gender role play that it operates on the individual from childhood to death in this book as if it were revealing. Since the phenomenon of women has been legalized as a field of open exploitation for men both individually and socially from the point of view of the logic of ownership and production relations, I can say that this is a manual of opposition to justified injustice.
What is the patriarchal system? What does it do? if you are curious and want to learn the basic discourses of the matriarchal thought structure, this is a very ideal book to start with. I think it is important for new readers to start with such books first in the readings they will do in this field. Pleasant reading already.
An important book, nowadays we get to know a lot of terms or keywords through social media but many do not understand the exact meaning of those terms and books like this can help everyone understand the terms, origin of the terms, how is it affecting the society and the human beings living in it. In return if even one person can understand this try to improve themselves then the book has served its purpose. Once you read the book, you will have insights into how patriarchy shapes power dynamics, social norms, and gender roles. The book encourages one to critically analyze and challenge these entrenched structures, fostering awareness and a comenitment to gender equality. Kamla Bhasin’s work inspires readers to be advocates for change, promoting more inclusive and equitable world for all genders hence I feel everyone should read this book. All the stats in the book must have changed over the years, in some cases for the better and in some cases for the worst but the concepts remain the same.
