Some cages you can see. Others live beneath your skin. Elira remembers nothing before the streets—except shadows. Shadows that whisper. Shadows that protect. But when a violent clash lands her in the hands of the King’s elite, she discovers the truth she was never meant to know. She is the last shadowmancer. And everyone wants a piece of her power. Trapped between a fanatical ruler who once kept her caged, a kingdom that needs her, and the four deadly warriors who swore to guard her—Elira must navigate betrayal, buried magic, and the slow-burning fire of a heart she thought she'd lost. But shadows never forget. And neither does the past.
Book two just released. This is a very good book. The writing could be smoother and the punctuation needs work, but better than most of this genre. The story is not comfortable, it is dark and has many layers. The world construct is grim with evil kings who hoard magic users and abuse the general population. Elira is 22 and remembers nothing before her 16th year. Her best friend Finn saved her in a forest alone with no memories and they've struggled in poverty ever since. She has magic which they must hide because the king will enslave her if discovered. This book covers the next few months after she is caught. She learns and grows and many powerful people want to control her or become enamored of her and her powers. Potential reverse harem, magic, shifters, childhood abuse, found family, royalty, lost heritage, lots of violence.
Read this in three days. Couldn’t put it down. If you love One Dark Window, then this is a book for you. The characters have depth and development, and I can’t wait for the next book to see where the story goes.
I was looking for a new book to get me out of a book slump. This did that! I took a chance on a book with few reviews but all good ones. So glad I did! The story reels you in and doesn't let go. If you like a slow burn reverse harem, fantasy world, this one is for you. And bonus, the editing is wonderful. No errors that pull you out of the story. Read this!
This was action packed from the first page! These characters and this storyline will have you hooked, I couldn’t put the book down! There’s depth to these characters, mystery, danger, suspense and so much emotion. I cannot wait to see what’s going to come next because that ending has me shook! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
The storyline was a bit slow. Lots of lost cause with the MMC being powerless against the King's army. The heroine was a brat and annoying. Argues with everything but yet powerless. The h or shades are just another prisoners of the King. Rinse and repeat. Not much to keep my interest except to be told how everyone is weak even though the MMC has powers. Got tired of the annoying heroine and weak characters development. Writing was okay but storyline did not work for me. DNF..
This story was utterly captivating. The plot twists kept me engaged, and the character development was rich and rewarding. I’m always drawn to protagonists who endure hardship, calamity, and personal tragedy, yet somehow preserve the goodness of their heart. Elira embodies that beautifully. Her resilience feels like a quiet beacon guiding her through the darkness, and I found myself genuinely loving her and rooting for her every step of the way.
If you’re moved by tragic characters who rise with grace, this book is a must-read.
The final installment of the Legacy of Shadows trilogy by Sarah Bowen promises an epic and emotionally charged conclusion. Elira’s journey from hunted survivor to powerful shadowmancer queen feels both fierce and deeply human, with rising stakes, awakening dragons, and a world on the brink of war. The dynamic between Elira and the Shades adds rich tension and passion, perfectly balancing dark fantasy with romance. With its vivid worldbuilding, high emotion, and promise of a satisfying HEA, this finale sounds like an unforgettable end to a gripping series.
The Night the Stars Fell She grew up with no memories, only shadows that seemed to protect her. When she’s taken by the King’s forces, the truth behind those shadows is revealed, and it changes everything she thought she was. Caught between power, danger, and people who want to use what she is, she must decide who to trust and how much of herself she’s willing to remember. Some pasts refuse to stay buried.
Omg!!! I stumbled upon this book and spent the last 2 days finishing it. I did not expect to cry during the first part of the book (not going to say spoiler) but it was so well written. This is by far the best book I've read so far this year. Unique storyline and every mmc is completely different. I can't recommend this book enough!
This book was awesome! I’ve been in a book slump and randomly decided to give it a try. Before I even made it through the sample I was crying, and so very invested and it definitely didn’t disappoint! I am so glad the next book is out so I can dive right in!
Excellent read. Not usually a genre of books I would choose, but I couldn't put this one down. Excellent character development, and kept me on the edge of my seat. Can't wait for the next one
Was totally invested in this story. I am curious to see where she goes in book 2. I thoroughly enjoyed this storyline and the fact that it was not heavy with sex. Loved the Finn flip as well.
I'm going to blame the AI narration more than the story. It was truly awful. It could also do with a hardy edit as there were continuity issues I couldn't get around.
