Lenalee pushes herself beyond her limits the way Allen once did in his struggle to save Suman, gambling both her life and her power to protect the crew of the ship she travels on and the exorcists upon it, throwing all she had and more against the Level 3 akuma whom menaces them. In the meantime, that same crew battles to protect the other exoercists whom are engaged in fierce combat with other akuma. Everyone’s strength is extended beyond what’s possible, thanks to the powers of Miranda Lotto. She can only, however, rewind time to the point before a person was wounded and she’s reaching her limit. What will happen when she finally lets go?
Epic tragedy and heroism permeate this volume. Lenalee reached new levels of her power, exposing new facets of how her Innocence could evolve. Allen fights the anguish brought on by the evolution of the only power he has left, his cursed eye. Miranda showed her power, endurance, and the limits to both. Anita and her crew carried on until the end of the voyage with a strength that was heartbreaking and I fear pointless. For Cross sent a message to everyone trying to reach him, telling them to turn back, they’d only get in his way. I wondered if he wasn’t right. Just what would the exorcists accomplishing by reaching Cross’s side? Would they be able to protect him? Or will he end up protecting them? My absolute favorite scene had nothing to do with any of this. It showed an exhausted Krory saving Lavi from akuma infection and replenishing himself by sinking his fangs into his fellow exorcist. It was another intriguing twist in the vampiric nature of Krory’s Innocence. Once again, the artwork was engaging, moving the plot forward and enhancing character development. For all of these qualities, I give this four stars.
