This whole volume was essentially one big battle, mostly between Lenalee and a single, upper-level akuma. I guess because there wasn't much story here, wasn't much text, that this one only gets a passing grade. The only characters I feel connected to are Allen (he's such a sweet guy), Kanda (he's broody and dangerous, a very sexy combo! hehe), and, maybe strangely, Komui (I can totally relate to his lack of organization skills, and I love how he's essentially a genius but a real slacker as well), and they are all absent here. And Miranda cried again. I think someone should start a drinking game and take shots every time Miranda cries.

Another heartwrenching volume with a lot of sorrow in it. I hate but love at the same time how the author able to make me as a reader feels the sadness, sorrow, the sacrifices of the side characters (like it just a minor character who have a less important roles), but manages to make me feel their sincere feelings, their sacrifice and each of their dead have their weight. Oh gosh its so heavy, A LOT of people died. Ugly crying again because they were such a precious people.

This volumes centers around Lenalee fight, I adore her so much. I love her anti akuma weapon, but she really DOES pushed herself too much in this like Allen in previous volume. We can see she hold so much feelings to herself that she didn't even express it to anyone, not even her brother. That is so sad ngl.

P/s: I just remember General Cross can alter akuma, the golemns caught me off guard a little bit but he's so cutee.

This series has so many tearful deaths. God I don't know how much more of this I can take.

4.5/5 Volume 8 concludes the battle at sea. Exciting Stuff and a lot of fun. My only real qualms are that the action sequences could’ve been done a little better. It also suffers from the typical anime/manga surprise secret power or OP Deus Ex Machina but thankfully not so a super sever extent. Still one of my favorite volumes thus far. Bak Chan on the cover though he’s not really present in this one at all. Neither is Allen for that matter.

This volume is one long fight and it's both badass and heartbreaking to watch. Bring on volume 9!

Lenalee pushes herself beyond her limits the way Allen once did in his struggle to save Suman, gambling both her life and her power to protect the crew of the ship she travels on and the exorcists upon it, throwing all she had and more against the Level 3 akuma whom menaces them. In the meantime, that same crew battles to protect the other exoercists whom are engaged in fierce combat with other akuma. Everyone’s strength is extended beyond what’s possible, thanks to the powers of Miranda Lotto. She can only, however, rewind time to the point before a person was wounded and she’s reaching her limit. What will happen when she finally lets go?

Epic tragedy and heroism permeate this volume. Lenalee reached new levels of her power, exposing new facets of how her Innocence could evolve. Allen fights the anguish brought on by the evolution of the only power he has left, his cursed eye. Miranda showed her power, endurance, and the limits to both. Anita and her crew carried on until the end of the voyage with a strength that was heartbreaking and I fear pointless. For Cross sent a message to everyone trying to reach him, telling them to turn back, they’d only get in his way. I wondered if he wasn’t right. Just what would the exorcists accomplishing by reaching Cross’s side? Would they be able to protect him? Or will he end up protecting them? My absolute favorite scene had nothing to do with any of this. It showed an exhausted Krory saving Lavi from akuma infection and replenishing himself by sinking his fangs into his fellow exorcist. It was another intriguing twist in the vampiric nature of Krory’s Innocence. Once again, the artwork was engaging, moving the plot forward and enhancing character development. For all of these qualities, I give this four stars.

Once again I am SOOOO glad I watched this series before I read it. This is another one of those ones that if I hadn't watched it, I would be so lost as too what's going on. I was only just able to follow it and it's because some of the scenes are quite dark.

This book follows Lenalee's fight with the Level 3 akuma in the ocean and the ending of the fight for those aboard the ship. It pretty much, once again, went the same as it did in the series, and there was slight translating mix-up which I found quite funny, in my version that I have of the book. It happened about 3 chapters in when the translator just left the Japanese text over the action, in one scene, and pretty much went "translators note: I don't know what that says". Lol, I thought that was pretty funny to say that to the reader lol. Lucky for them, at least that scene it was easy to guess what was happening. I'm not sure if this is in every copy of the book, however, in my copy it was.

Also noted was the fact that at the beginning of the series, Lenalee's name was translated too "Renali", however, in this book her name is written as "Lenali". I can't remember if I noticed this change in the previous books, but I surely noticed it in this one. It makes me wonder why these translations are getting the name different. Although I suppose in any language a name could be read in different ways. Looking forward to seeing if they bother changin Crowlies/Crow-Chan's name and Ravi/Lavi's name later on to fit the series.

So this book is non stop action. Picking up from the last book, the battle against the level 3 akuma continues and ends. Some interesting stuff happens such as the akuma who is extremely powerful was actually once a little girl before turning into an akuma. Also lennalee almost dies but survives with most of her hair missing. She is saved by an akuma who was altered by general cross the member they are looking for. Finding out that general cross has a unique ability to turn akuma into good guys is cool and also means he could have the heart of innocence that the earl is after to destroy the world. Also lenalee innocence acted on its own to save her which means she could also have the heart. This volume is not without its issues though, some panels are literally blank with a few words on them, the battles are hard to see what’s going on and lacks detail, and also the majority of the volume had little dialogue. However the ending was a sad ending where you find out the whole crew on the ship died including the woman who let the exorcists use the ship in search for cross. You don’t realize they died yet until the one exorcist ability, who can rewind time to prevent injuries, ends due to her fatigue. Overall decent volume.

This volume centers primarily around Lenalee and her fight with the level 3 akuma. I adore Lenalee and always have. This is probably one of my favorite fights in the entire series, both anime and manga, so far. Let it be known I've watched the entire anime and have read up through volume 27. I read this volume a few years ago, though I had seen the anime episodes several years back. I don't know why I didn't buy this volume sooner honestly.

While I still adore Hoshino's newer art style in the more recent volumes, I really loved her original gothic art style in these older ones. This is probably also one of the only times we get to see Lenalee fight for more than a few pages, which I greatly enjoyed, especially since I love her anti-akuma weapon. I guess I'm biased since I'm one of the few people who love her character, so take my review with a grain of salt if you're not a Lenalee fan. This volume is mostly about her battle with the level 3 akuma with a dive into her personal feelings about certain matters. We do get to see what happens with Anita and the crew at the end and there is some stuff with Allen and his situation at the beginning, though.

First something a bit random : I love how Kro and Lavi are able to fight side by side so quickly. I just find it cool to see exorcists teamiing up like that.
Now, let's talk about this serie's dedication to hurt me? People die in this serie. Lots of people. But instead of making those deaths feel unimportant because it's just random minor characters dying, this serie goes out of it's way to make you feel each sacrifice. Each death has weight. It's given the space to be felt. And the main characters don't forget about it after three pages. They remember and it weigh on them. I truly appreciate it even though it hurts me.

I'm not crying. You're crying! Oy that ending though! I've officially been reduced to a sobbing puddle of fangirl.

I love the crew, Mahoja, and Anita. Crowley was also really entertaining in this one, in a maniacal sort of way. Though I have to admit I'm somewhat relieved that this particular arc is over. Maybe it's the black and white illustrations, but sometimes these action-packed panels can get a bit busy and it's difficult to tell what is going on.

A sad ending, but a good story arc. It's sad to see so many side characters fall to the Akuma, but it was definitely in the back of my mind that all the humans had to have been affected by the Akuma with that level of exposure. Linalee's innocence evolving to protect her as it did has yet to be explained, though the Bookman seems to think it might be significant since it's never been done before. Is Linalee the heart? Is Allen? Who could be the heart?

Thid was a fast paced volume that did well to develop the side characters, especially Lenalee. As this showed how tough she was and how strong her will was as it showes her not giving up once in the fight.
Yet I found the cut to Allen and how he was well drawn and showed how mich qol of this was taking a toll on him. Yet showing that his eye keeping him awake by causing him pain was contributing to all of this.

This volume really showcases what Lenalee goes through and how tough she is. Go Lenalee! She really is the focus of this novel, she is trying to protect her friends and her innocence evolves with it, I enjoyed how the whole team came together and really sad.

Anita and Mahoja whyyyyy!!!

Also Cross came on for like a page spread. That was neat.

With the exception of a few moments of bizarre dream meeting between Lenalee and Allen, this entire volume is a blow-by-blow as those aboard the ship continue to battle their way toward Japan. It is a fantastically detailed depiction of the battle but managed to feel a touch slow to me, because a true blow-by-blow of that length just feels slow on paper, and nothing else happened.

This novel is one long battle but its the best battle possible. Naruto, one piece and all the others have female characters, but they never have such long, brutal and desperate scenes. Very nicely done.

Covers Chapters 67-76

Another action packed volume! You see the crew taking their innocence to the max and fighting for their lives. Allen was barely in this volume but the moments with Lavi, Lenalee, Miranda, and Krory are awesome!! ❤️

I was debating on whether I wanted to give this one 3 or 4 stars. I just didn't find it as interesting or engaging as the other volumes. However, this volume did have some good emotional moments, they just weren't enough to make up for the rest though.

Every time I read this I promise myself I won't cry and every time I hit the end and start sobbing.

Anyway this is a great volume for the ladies. Lenalee is, just, straight up, a badass.

(Ahhh and Anita;;; And MAHOJA. It's so nice to see a butch woman not be treated as a gag.)

I felt like we didn’t get a whole lot of Allen in this volume which, I understand needed to happen to move the plot forward, but I’m ultimately not a Lanali fan (I much prefer Miranda, much more interesting and fun character to read). I'm glad we are finally reaching Japan though - Cross is such an facinating agent of chaos.
