Sister Monica has defeated the dark Mages' attempts to seize the magickal stone she holds ... so far. But victory has come at great personal cost, and one of her own has been kidnapped.
Now, in exchange for Talia's return, Monica's enemy demands not just the stone, but the ancient and powerful Methuselah to wield it for them. If she hands them over, the Mages will have unimaginable, awful power. If she doesn't, Talia will die.
But a second faction of Mages has emerged to offer Monica their help. She knows she can't trust them, but with no idea where to look for either Talia or the stones, she may have no choice but to accept the alliance ...
And then hope to hell she can beat them at their own power game before they destroy the very fabric of the universe.Scroll up and one-click now to preorder the gripping conclusion to the Obsidian Sisterhood trilogy!
Lydia M. Hawke is a writer possessed of both a light side and a dark one. On the dark side, she’s the author of the Grigori Legacy, an apocalyptic urban fantasy series featuring a hard-as-nails cop caught up in the war between Heaven and Hell. In her lighter moments, she writes romances (contemporary and suspense) as Linda Poitevin. And when she’s not plotting the world’s downfall or next great love story, she’s a wife, mom, friend, coffee snob, gardener, walker of a Giant Dog, keeper of many pets, and an avid food preserver (you know, just in case that whole Zombie Apocalypse thing really happens)
A group of mages have all but one stone that not only holds power, but when added to the rest, it will create the darkness of creation. That person would be able to create a world of his liking. Sister Monica had bonded with the last stone, the one coveted by the mages, but one she and a group of gifted nuns has been sworn to protect and keep away from the others. Talia has been kidnapped and held for ransom for the release of the stone. Now she has to rescue Talia and find the other 5 stones. Sister Monica is a strong woman, one to be reckoned with. I love the woman power this book offers. Each book brings more excitement and adventure. My opinion, this is a gripping series that needs to be started with book 1, but a series that you definitely need to read.
Every time I read a story in this series, I really want to be Sister Monica. She is just so tough even while feeling inadequate, compassionate while feeling angry, and capable even though she’s not a spring chicken. In this latest, she must get the remaining five stones, even if there are so many obstacles in her way. There are a few surprises in this latest book, and we are finally getting to the point where we see how Sister Monica and Claire Emerson’s story are going to collide in a good way. This is an action-filled, good time with an interesting and fun minor character who is a surprise-filled delight. This latest definitely delighted this fan of the series. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Explosives, chaos and expletives : All the good stuff.
This third part of Sister Monica's story does not disappoint. It continues to be a wild exciting ride, the action pieces fly by, the thoughtful sections have time to breathe and there are some great new characters to add to the ones we already know and love. Lucille was a fabulous new addition this time around. Being close to Monica might be a little on the dangerous side, but you definitely don't want to be on her enemy's side! At the very end we link back to the Crone Wars, where we started with Monica. I can't wait to see what happens when Monica and Claire put their heads together. I really want to be there with them.
I would recommend you read the previous books in the series before this one, but if you enjoyed the action in the previous books you're gonna love this one!! The story continues, with a few twists and turns and the characters are as entertaining as ever. There is lots of colourful and multilingual language, and lots of diversity, it's a great read. I love that it doesn't consign those of advancing age to their rocking chairs, my favourite new character is Lucille! I hope we find out more of her backstory. My only warning would be... the story is not yet done!
What I love most about Lydia M. Hawks' books is the pace at which the story moves. It is fast-paced, dodging, and weaving with unexpected twists. The third installment of the Obsidian Sisterhood Stories is a natural segue into the Crone Wars series . A determinted Sister Monica and all her irreverent and spiritual chorts dive head first into danger. Aliens, witches, Goliath's oh, my.
Hawke has done a fabulous job, merging her two 2 story arcs without sacrificing the plot or characters we know and love from the Obsidian trilogy. What happens won't disappoint.
Who would ever want to age gracefully after sharing in Sister Monica's exploits? She's an ex-nun, a marshall arts master and is saving the world on a daily basis...all while talking like a sailor. This woman, with help from other nuns who are privy to ancient secrets, battles mages, monsters and the urge to surrender to a power unfathomable. Written for women who battle their own demons of aging, feeling irrelevant and overwhelmed and showing them age is truly a number and what sheer grit, determination and a plethora of F-bombs can achieve.
Sister Monica has outwitted the mages so far, but when of their own, Tahlia, is kidnapped she struggles with doing a rescue misson or staying the course. For the return of Tahlia they want not only the stone, but Methuselah too and neither is possible. Then she recieves another offer from the Mages opposition. For their help rescueing Thalia they want Sister Monica to retrieve the other 5 stones for them. But when Methuselah tells Sister Monica the fate of the world is at stake, she knows what she has to do. This book was fantastic and kept me on the edge of my seat.
Finally, the threads connect and stories converge! I won’t offer spoilers, but for fans of “The Crone Wars” things will get clearer, and just a glimpse of what happens in the aftermath will pique your interest and keep you coming back for more of Sister Monica, the Ursulines, AND the fifth Crone! So excited for the twist in plot I never saw coming! Now for the torturous wait for the next book… I received this book for free from the author and am voluntarily leaving this review."
Sister Monica must recover the other five stones and save Talia from her kidnappers. Methuselah tells her she must save the Weaver of All. Boy does she have a lot on her plate
Relentless Journey Amazing book, the story continues in a relentless journey to stop the mages. The people are so well crafted they are real, with emotions and goals. I didn’t read this book I lived it and am still breathless! I received my copy as a gift an am very grateful.
Well Lydia did it again another awesome book. There's nothing like nuns throwing molotov cocktails and elderly female truck drivers to keep you on the edge of your seat. Save the world Sister Monica but....what is this? The fifth Crone appearing?
With all the wrong in the world right now, we need this story more than ever. Wonderfully written. Characters I care about (well, the ones with a heart, anyway).
Another amazing story from Lydia M. Hawke. I couldn’t stop reading. Sister Monica is who I wanna be when I grow up! I can’t wait for the next book in this series. Recommend to all
A Confluence of Obsidian is packed with almost constant danger and action. I especially liked Lucille, the rig driving trucker. I'm looking forward to the next book.
I have enjoyed this series since Sister Monica jumped off the porch to protect her charges... I have loved Sister Monica's moral clarity, dedication to protect all those around her... and her liberal use of the word that rhymes with duck... was just *chef's kiss!
In this book, after a showdown with the brotherhood, Sister Monica and the battling nuns return to the monastery to find that it was attacked and one of their members was kidnapped. In this demoralizing turn of events, Sister Monica must figure out how to balance saving the world with saving her friends... and the calculus is heartbreaking, until she meets another group of mages who have similar goals and offer to help.
This book was fast-paced and filled with hope in the face of insurmountable odds. I loved how the author wove together the ends of this story, while revealing that it was, in fact, part of a greater tapestry.
Now off to read the Crone Wars before the battle to end all battles begins.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book and am leaving this review voluntarily.
