Confessions of a Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman #8

The Hitwoman and the Poisoned Apple

Rate this book
How do you solve a murder when the victim is still alive?

Maggie Lee’s murder mentor (and almost lover) Patrick Mulligan wants her to find out who poisoned him before it’s too late. Keeping the man she loves alive would be hard enough if all she had to worry about was not getting caught, but nothing’s ever that simple.

In between dealing with her strung out cat, searching for Patrick’s poisoner, meeting a deadline to deliver a mysterious gift for her mobster boss and keeping a curious reporter on his toes, she finds herself entangled in the complicated (and potentially dangerous) romantic affairs of her Aunt Susan and her semi-psychic friend Armani.

Hearts and lives are in peril.

Can the kooky, klutzy assassin save them?

Can i just say OMG! OMG!! If you haven't read this series you should. You have to be ok with a cliffhanger ending but the author doesn't make you wait to long for the next book in the series. I have read all the books in this series and it takes usually the first chapter to suck me in. The main character Maggie Lee has been drawn into the world of being a assassin of sorts to pay for the care her orphaned niece healthcare needs. That's how the series starts. Since then she's been in all kinds of crazy situations and this book isn't any different. In the last book Patrick her murder mentor and the married man she is in love with is poisoned. This book she is tasked with finding out who poisoned him, deliver a package to a lady in the same mental hospital her mother is in per her mobster boss and dealing with her friend Armani and her new boyfriend who rubs her the wrong way. The woman should be a excellent juggler dealing with all the craziness around her. JB Lynn knows how to draw you into her stories. Although there are some serious situations going on she twists it around to add humor as well. Even as a i am bracing for what might be coming more times than not i end up smiling or laughing and then she grabs be by the throat with her almost climactic cliffhanger endings. At that point there might be a curse or two from me. Possibly, Ok probably! As always i am looking forward to the next book!

Maggie is forced to 'grow up' a bit more in this latest installment of the Hitwoman series. With additional characters through each installment and no end in sight to the series, I've come to terms with the short/novella length of these books. If it means we can get the next book without waiting too long, I'll concede their ever shortening length.

Maggie has been asked to find out who tried to kill her murder mentor and sort-of-lover, Patrick.

She is under the constant barrage of the increasingly selfish needs of her family and the stress of being a reluctant hitwoman and 'associate' of the Delvecchio brothers is starting to catch up with her and larger cracks in her facade are becoming visible.

We don't hear anything from Zeke or Ms. Whitehat, but we do meet a new player - reporter Jason Stern. There's an obvious attraction between Jason and Maggie, but is he after something other than romance? Even Maggie can't seem to tell. Also, the Griswalds have been hanging around the B&B making it difficult for Maggie to follow Rule #1.

Ultimately Maggie gets down to the bottom of things, but we're left with a real cliffhanger by Ms. Lynn! And the fate of Armani hangs in the balance!

Another entertaining read with some real character growth for our heroine, Maggie Lee. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long for the next one!

Another winner by JB Lynn in the Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman series. This drew me in from the very first page and kept me engaged until the very last page. I was actually disappointed when I got to the end and there wasn't any more pages - the book was so good that I just wasn't ready for it to end.

The book follows Maggie as she struggles to stay true to herself while solving the problems of those she loves....or at least not lose herself in them. She tries to balance being her niece's guardian, her murder mentor's almost lover, her aunts' crazy behavior, and her mother's just plain crazy while meeting the needs of a mobster she's afraid of. Throughout this, she has her animal friends, DeeDee the dog, God the lizard, and Piss the cat, that she talks to and that, more importantly, that talk to her...as in entire conversations (although the dog is a bit grammar challenged...lol).

This makes for an engaging book that I just could not put down. I'm already looking forward to the next book.

Thank you to the author for providing a complementary ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I am very picky about the authors that I add to my favorites list & spend my free time reading their books. JB Lynn is one of my top favorites & she doesn't disappoint with THE HITWOMAN & THE POISONED APPLE! Maggie & her animal friends, God, DeeDee, & Piss are back & this time they have to try to figure out who tried to poison Patrick, Maggie's mentor, before they try it again. Maggie is in for some surprises & is worried about how Patrick will take the news when she tells him. Maggie also realizes that she might just be asking for heartbreak by falling for Patrick. Add in a best friend who has hooked up with a man who is dangerous, a cat who MIGHT have a drug problem, AND trying to be there for her niece & Maggie has her hands full. I love all of the characters in this series, both human & animal/reptile. I cannot wait for Hitwomand #9!!

Clue

Maggie is inundated with clues this book. Luckily she is good at puzzles. With one exception. Drop the romantic interest in Patrick. He is a coward and not worth the angst. Mr. D has a very interesting clue that is revealed in this book. Armani is an even bigger mess than normal. Maggie needs better friends.

Another good one in an excellent series! These little books are so perfect...tightly plotted and paced, no unnecessary exposition, great characters, and enough drama, action, and humor to satisfy every itch. And just enough...but not too much...romance/sex. I’ve been trying to pace myself, but I’m running through these little gems like water. I really need to start rationing them for emergencies only, like when work has suuucckked, or I messed up and accidentally watched/read the news. They are my tiramisu.

***One little thing...I think your proofreader may have quit and neglected to inform you. The number of incorrect and missing words in this book, and the last, has been EPIC. Like...a LOT a lot. It’s pretty distracting. I have no idea what’s involved, so if it’s really hard, then don’t worry about it, but if not...you might want to take another pass at it.

A poisoning to solve

I am enjoying watching Maggie mature throughout this series. It is especially heartwarming that she has developed a rapport with Dee Dee. I wasn't a fan of how mean she was to the poor mistreated dog when she first took possession of her. But Maggie's patience has done wonders for DeeDee's self-confidence and trust. The animal teamwork to find the culprit was fabulous. Now I need to go check on her bestie!

Loved the story, but the lack of editing really got in the way: sentences with mixed tenses, ‘than’ instead of ‘then,’ and ‘in’ or ‘on’ instead of ‘of.’ Also found many places with repeated word combinations.

Where were the editors? I’m not one, and yet all of the mistakes just jumped out at me and sucked a lot of the fun right out of this story.

ALWAYS ENTERTAINING!

I really love this author and this series! I’m now rereading it first to last and each page is a refreshing vacation into Maggie’s world! A little murder mystery, a little love, a lot of crazy zaniness! The personalities and characters become friends. Highly recommended. Enjoy!

A great comic, dramà mystery series

From the first to the last book you will be entertained. Ms. Lynn is one of the most clever writers I have read. The characters make you either identity with or you adore them. So few writers have accomplished so much with such wonderful style.

Love this series

This series is edgy with a dark humor. I'd recommend it to any mystery book readers, especially those who like dark humor. I am so absorbed in the story line, with the unusual characters and story, I have read the first 8 books in a week.

omg

This is a great addition to a funny series. We see Maggie getting into things but getting out of it by luck. I am amazed by this heroine and the things she will go through for people she loves. This was a quirky lovable story.

It is like an addiction! I can't read any other books anymore. Once I started this series, I just kept reading one after another. I think the author has a weakness for twins. Animals are so adorable!

I had a blast reading Jb Lynn's latest book in her Confessions Of A Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman Series!! I mean a serious blast! I could not put the book down once I started, there is so much going on in this book but it is perfectly balanced out. I love Maggie and her family of terrors (cough) I mean family.. That includes God, Dee Dee and of course Piss who I might add needs a intervention. And if I had to have a side job as a Hitwoman then sign me up to Team Delveccio!!! Lets not forget our adorable little card shark Katie! How cute is that kid!! Patrick is a grey area for me, I don't love him and I don't hate him... Now Griswald one of Susan's suitors I loved.. I'm rooting for you buddy!!!!
Armani Vasquez!!!!!!! Need I say more......
I really enjoyed page after page of this book, with the exception of the last page! Why you might ask??? Two reasons! Reason 1. It was the last page and that calls for some serious pouting!!
Reason 2. It leaves off on a mind blowing WTH cliffhanger that I just was not expecting, and the next book is not even out yet and I am on Team Impatient Reading Addict!!! {True Story} I also have one very important question that is left unanswered until the next book!!!
Who was the person who whispered????? Who???
I give this book Five Stars and fully recommend this book. Should start with the first book in the series because if not your missing out.
18+ due to adult situations.

I was provided a copy of this book by the Author for my honest review. My view and opinions are my own.

Talk about emotional! I loved THE HITWOMAN AND THE POISONED APPLE because it had more of Patrick in it and a flury of emotions. Normally these books are always counted on for great laughter but this one caused me to shed a few tears not once but twice. I love that in a book. JB Lynn also has an annoyingly good way of making you want to quickly pick up the next book in the series. I am so glad that there are many more books in the series out so I don't have to wait, too. I see why all her fans love it that she writes so quickly.

In THE POISONED APPLE Maggie is tasked with finding out who tried to poison Patrick but there is so much more going on with the other characters in the story, too. Sometimes it's hard to keep track of everything going on but I think it puts the reader in Maggie's shoes because she feels the same way. She needs to be in about 20 places at once. It's hard to pick a favorite book in this series, but THE POISONED APPLE is up there because of the plot and emotions tied up with Maggie and Patrick.

Lynn does a fabulous job with another installment of the Hitwoman books by giving us more of Maggie's life but nothing is ever the same as the previous books. Sometimes a series like this can become a little mundane but I have yet to feel that with Maggie and family. If you are looking for an entertaining series that will pull you in from the beginning and keep you reading, give THE HITWOMAN book by JB Lynn a try. You will love them!

This series just keeps getting better and better! Maggie has new situations to deal with and this time one of her assignments takes her to visit her mom. While she is visiting her mom there are several situations going on in the mental hospital with some new characters. Armani has a new boyfriend and right away Maggie doesn’t like him and knows that he is bad news, but Armani is convinced he is her soul mate. There is still an FBI agent at her house because he is smitten with one of her aunts so this is reason for concern with Maggie’s clandestine activities. A new man appears in Maggie’s life and just when she feels herself being drawn to him, she finds out something disturbing about him. Everywhere she goes she sees him. New information is revealed about Delveccio and his family which provides more twists and turns. Meanwhile, DeeDee the grammar challenged dog, God the lizard and Piss the cat provide a hilarious running commentary on everything and even help Maggie with her assignment. The ending to this book will have you clamoring for more!!!

Great Series!!
I love this series! Maggie is a hitwoman for the local mobster, her murder mentor Patrick almost died because someone has poisoned him. Patrick asks Maggie if she will find out who tried to kill him. Maggie’s animals drive her nuts ever since her accident she now can understand what they are saying. She has to deal with her drugged out cat, her crazy family members, and her mobster boss all without getting caught. This book has is all humor, mystery, and a great story, it kept me up reading until the end. I can’t wait until the next book in this series comes out.

I Confess - I Loved It!

Maggie is back again, as is DeeDee, Piss, & GOD and they are all in rare form! This time Patrick has asked Maggie to find out who poisoned him. A new mysterious character named Jack Stern is introduced. We also get to meet a new love interest for Armani & find out a secret Mr. D has been hiding. I am really enjoying how the relationships are growing. So surprises, humor, mystery, & thrills are all there. What more can a reader ask for. Not to spoil anything, but the author leaves us with quite a cliffhanger that makes me very eager for the next installment!

This was another in this author's excellent Hitwoman series. Maggie Lee is given the task from her murder mentor Patrick to find out who tried to killhim with poison. There are some more characters--Jack Stern a reporter who says he wants to date Maggie and her friend Armani is dating what appears to be a serial killer. Maggie employs God to find out who poisoned Patrick. The end is a cliffhanger leading to the next book. This is a well written funny mystery and I can hardly wait for the next one ! This was an ARC and a honest review.

I really like that Mags has grown up some in Poisoned Apple. She is coming into her own and is proving that she can hold her own ground. Not that she ever had a problem holding her own before. Lots of new surprises in this book that I loved. So much I want to discuss but I'm scared I will spoil the wonderful new events brought into the series. Let me just say that this book has shown the growth of Maggie Lee and her animals in a very positive way. And still retained the high laugh out loud factor but with a huge heart! I urge you to read this book just to discover the surprises in store!

This series is just a lot of fun. Each book is more of a novelette and they really do have to be read in order as the end of one leads to the beginning of the next. In this book Maggie is asked by her murder mentor, Patrick, to find out who tried to kill him. As usual when Maggie and her animal entourage is involved hilarity ensues. Maggie is finally coming to realize that her niece Katie will soon be coming home and what that means to her personally. If you are looking for a fun, fast series read than this is it. Start at book 1 though!

Another totally awesome installment of the Neurotic Hitwoman series. If life hadn't been so distracting, I would've read it all straight through. (Darn it.) Once again, Maggie's life is in chaos and, with the help and hindrance of her menagerie, she manages to find her way through--which only leads to more chaos and the next book! I can't wait for it to be out! These books are like crack to me.
