Christy McKellen, an English author, have spun a bewitching romantic story, in her latest book, Bridesmaid with Attitude that involves a feisty woman fighting for her best friend's wedding venue, even if it requires to be somebody's fake girlfriend for a few days.
To be fair: I'm not that judgmental when it comes to reading Mills & Boons or Harlequin books. I believe we all need to read a little bit of fairytale romance sometime to lose oneself in the beauty of it.
Synopsis:
As head bridesmaid, Emily Applegate is furious when Lord Berkeley pulls the plug on the venue for her best friend’s wedding. But Theo turns out to have good reason — and he’s the hottest guy Emily’s ever seen!
Brooding Theo is adamant that the wedding won’t happen at his estate...unless they can make a deal. Theo needs a favor, but is Emily willing to trade a wedding day for a role as the Earl’s fake fiancée? Especially when there's nothing fake about the sizzle between them...
Gutsy and enthusiastic Emily is ready to take the world down to make her best friend's dream come true, which includes getting married in a palatial estate own by Lord Berkley. She stomps off to his estate to have a word with him, but his drawn by his broodiness and muscles and sexy demeanor. Theo, on the other hand, wasn't expecting someone like Emily to turn his lonely and composed life upside down with her burning desire and care for him. Eventually his deal, if Emily acts up to his fake girlfriend for few weeks, then her best friend can have the wedding in his estate, becomes a life-changing event in his life. His growing emotions finally made him fall for Emily, but Emily who vowed never to settle down, will respond to Theo's feelings emotionally rather than being friends with benefits? The story telling is nice yet it was bit rushed, and the emotions were missing it's feel from the storyline. Yet the narrative style is gripping and striking enough to keep us engaged in the story. The inevitable passion between Emily and Theo is described quite strongly that we could easily feel the heat from the pages of the book. There's a lot of drama in this story, which made the story very unreal! But the descriptions are intricately layered in the book, which gives an interesting edge to the story.
The characters and their whole arrangement sounded absolutely surreal! But the author have described their demeanor quite strikingly, thus making us believe with the issues they were facing in their lives. The oh-so-perfect hero, Theo will simply take your breath away and his every move and act will make you wonder whether a guy like Theo actually exist in this universe. Emily's spunky attitude will leave an impressionistic mark upon our minds and she is the epitome of strong heroine who never leans on a man's shoulder to grieve for her problems. The book is fast paced and without much emotional pull, it mars the grace of this story, only their chemistry keeps us moving forward.

Well written with a steamy romance. Both fun and dramatic in places with a H/h that I really liked. 4 engaging stars. 😍

This classy and sensual rom com is well written, layered with character depth as the story develops. I'll definitely read more books by this author.

The first time I read a book by this author ( back then not a Mills and Boon book ) I sat back at the end and I was like " Wow , just wow" because at the time all I read were Mills and Boon's and this was one of my very first non-mills-and-boon books, and the wow part was that I was speechless because I could not believe that there were other author's out there capable of writing this well and it not being published by my favorite publisher. Pretty darn dumb I know but since then I have learned, trust me I have learned , never only look for that pretty little rose image. Since then my favorite publisher has seen the light and this author has proved over and over again just why she belongs in the world of M&B.
Now this time the author introduced me to Emily Applegate , she's the head bridesmaid and she's furious! Lord Berkeley cancels her best friend's wedding venue and Emily is naturally everything but impressed.
But gorgeous Theo is adamant that the wedding won't happen at his estate, that is unless Emily makes a trade. But willingly playing the Earl's fake fiancee, yeah she's not so sure about that. Especially when there's absolutely nothing fake about the out of control off the charts sizzle between them!
A stunningly crafted romance of epic proportions, yes that's what this book was. A fun and feisty heroine that's pretty much cornered and a stubborn hero that's uses each and every single drop of his power to get what he wants , perfect setup for romance with a kick don't you agree?
I loved the power-play between these two characters, so very in your face, oh no you don't , don't you bloody damn well dare, okay fine you win ! Theo as I said was stubborn , and I do mean stubborn, I wanted to stick him in a seller and let him rot at one stage , but only for a little while. I adored the author letting him hide in plain sight so to speak, it really reminded me just how much we can be out and about in the world yet hidden from everyone.
Now as heroine Emily was a really fun one to read, I really enjoyed her spunk, pushing Theo to a certain degree but not really pushing as hard as I knew she could, of course this meant she had a little something in the back of her mind causing the prevention, and oh my gosh when the author let that one come to light I literally jumped off the bed , shouted out " Really? What the heck?!" But through these actions the author showed how there is always a little part of us that needs a push from the other side to send us on the right path.
Passionate, awesome fun and crazy dialogue, emotionally packed and simply filled with elegant romance! Highly recommended !

Books by Christy McKellen are always fun to read. I always enjoy every minute from her books. They are easy to read out in one sitting and perfect for spending a Sunday afternoon reading.
We first met the main character of this book Emily in Fired by her Fling, which follows the life of her best friend Lula. I liked Emily from the beginning, she’s a very bubbly person and she’s always upbeat. But like Lula she has had a difficult past. A past that keeps haunting her. All the secrets that she has to keep to hide her past are finally catching up to her.
Theo, Lord Berkeley, is a guarded man. He has a difficult time opening up to people and trusting them. I can’t say that I blame him for it after I got to know his history. But he’s a really great guy, he’s loving and caring, he isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty (not what you would expect from an earl) and he’s smart and funny. What do you want more in a man?
I really loved the background story of these two characters. They have both been through so much, but they are both really strong. They find a way to cope with what had happened to them, it might not have been the best way of coping but they managed to carry on with their life. What they both have in common is that they don’t want anyone get too close. Afraid to get hurt again. But from the moment they meet each other it is clear that there is something between them. There is no denying it. That’s one of the things that I loved the most about this book, you really could feel the attraction and tension sizzling between them. So the book more than succeeded on the romance part.
There is one thing that I missed in this book. There were almost no side characters. The whole book centered only on Theo and Emily. I missed that there were no friends of them in the book. It would have been nice if there were some to make the story a little more complex.
Overall I really enjoyed this book. It’s ideal for anyone who is looking for a sexy romance story, which will take you to contemporary London. I’m looking forward to read other books by this author.

Emily is feisty, knows what she wants and takes anyone she fancies a bite of. She has learnt to fend for herself since her family dropped her like a hot potatoe. Why? For looking and being very much like her mother. Certainly an unfair and judgemental reason to avoid a family member.
Theo is a broody, stubborn and passionate man, who finds Emily both infuriating and alluring. When her big mouth triggers a paparazzi frenzy and the truth about her past becomes national fodder, Theo has to choose between comforting or turning away from her.
This story is about a young woman living under the shadow of mental illness, having to deal with the misconceptions and harsh reactions of the ignorant. Nice little sub-plot there.

I really enjoyed the first part of this duo (Fired by Her Fling) so was looking forward to Emily's story - and this book surpassed my already high expectations. Emily is a brilliant heroine; sassy, sexy and ambitious with a well hidden vulnerability which makes her very endearing and sympathetic. As for Theo, he's gorgeous, titled, lives in a stately home and he makes things for a living, like Mr Darcy crossed with Aiden from Sex and the City. My absolute perfect guy. Only he's not acting like the perfect guy when Emily meets him. Emily needs something from Theo and when he doesn't succumb to her famous charm she's intrigued, if there's one thing she can't resist its' a challenge. Only this time she may just have bitten off far more than she can handle.
This is a glorious book, an absolutely perfect romance in which two flawed, deeply hurt people find each other and learn to trust each other against a gorgeous, glamorous backdrop of central London and the English countryside. I love Christy Mckellan's books and this may be her best yet.

Good book from start to finish, particularly enjoyed the epilogue such a good ending for Emily and Theo.
