As the firstborn of New York’s most formidable crime family, Kayla Sforza was born to rule men who feared nothing except their own obsolescence. Cold-blooded, diamond-cut, and devastatingly perceptive, she once studied optometry to learn how eyes lied. These days, she uses that gift to unmask traitors, unmake rivals, and keep her pulse buried so deep even she can’t feel it. Her laughter is rare—joy is a vulnerability. Her stilettos are sharp—softness is a liability. And the only time her gaze lingers is on the man she should loathe.
Lucius Andrade is everything a sensible conscience should flee: rage wrapped in charm, the bastard son of South America’s most vicious kingpin. Set loose to New York to seal a fragile alliance through a marriage of strategy, he ends up betrothed to Kayla’s younger sister, who was . . . very much in love with women. For Lucius, the sham buys legitimacy, plus a front-row seat to the in-law who steadies the static in his skull. Around Kayla, the meds meant to leash his mania gather dust. Around him, her steel composure turns porous.
She should’ve looked away. Instead, obsession bloomed behind her perfect poker face, a pulse she tracked from surveillance feeds to FBI black sites. He should’ve stayed clear of her orbit, yet every time he blinked she was there. An echo in his bloodstream. A queen whose fingerprints smudged every door he opened.
Opposites don’t repel; they collide.
One kiss after twenty-four months of restraint rewrites the underworld’s balance sheet, and a rough-voiced “principessa” turns caution into treason. Because when the Queen with a vendetta falls for the Devil’s untamed son, only one rule remains:
when they’re both falling for each other but he’s married to her younger sister 😳
ahhh my love katie !! thank you so much for trusting me with the chance to read your debut 🖤🥹 this was such an absolute BANGER !!
this is a mafia romance, forbidden, rival families, grumpy + sunshine, morally grey characters, sister’s husband, obsession, stalking, bipolar rep, pining, time jumps, duo pov 🤩
kayla was raised to take over her family with ruthless precision. she grew to hide her emotions because it would make her weak. and kayla is anything but. when she stumbled upon lucius, she knew she should’ve stayed away. she knew nothing good would come out of it. lucius is the son of a cartel boss. and when he’s been said to marry her sister, they completely fell into a rabbit hole of bantering, bickering, and developing feelings. the only way around these forbidden thoughts is to sneak around or avoid each other. kayla is hyper focused on business and getting things done. lucius is here for the ride and to stir up some trouble.
all the sneaking around behind their families’ back has me actually GUSHING 😍 i love these characters so much !! seeing how kayla slowly but surely started feeling again was so beautiful. she lost herself in the violence that surrounds her. but whenever lucius is around she feels something. this goes to same for him as well 🥹 lucius is someone who gets lost in his head and sometimes that gets the better of him. when he’s around kayla he only ever wants to see her feel something. even a little attitude towards him makes him smile so bright 🥰
kayla and lucius quickly became one of my favorite characters and book couples 🖤 they deserve the whole world
I REALLY ENJOYED THIS, like it was so refreshing to read a mafia romance where it's more character driven as opposed to plot driven, kaylalucius UGH THEY'RE EVERYTHING. the tension, the pining, UGH their buzz is unreal !
I loved this book!! I didn’t put it down. Tide of Treason is so beautifully and poetically written but remains accessible & the lyrical words don’t distract from the story!
It was incredibly refreshing to have an FMC in a mafia novel to be just as badass (if not more so), just as confident with a passion for getting what she wants. Kayla is the embodiment of femme fatale, mafia boss woman, and femininity, I am obsessed with her.
Lucius gave us strong mental health rep and we learned a lot about his past and what he has been forced to deal with since he was a child. Kayla and Lucius collide when he married Kayla’s sister to unite powerful families…but Viviana wants nothing to do with Lucius and he only has one Sforza sister in mind, and it’s not Viviana.
“I wanted to be the reason he stayed, not the reason he couldn’t leave. I didn’t want to clip his wings just to pin them to my wall and call it devotion. I wanted him untamed and undone, mine in all the ways that didn’t require captivity. I wanted the chaos of him, and I wanted him free enough to destroy me if he ever woke up bored.” - Kayla
LUCIUS ANDRADE, MY FIRST DARK ROMANCE BOOK BF <3 (and honorary mention to Vito <33)
KAYLA SFORZA MY QUEENNNN
Tide of Treason is such a perfect blend of poetry, passion, complexity, banter and a whole load of morally grey characters (my favourite). The writing style is immaculate.
You honestly get so immersed in the characters minds and lives, the push and pull that Lucius and Kayla constantly have, it makes you want to grab and shake them both but also watch as they burn everything around them.
Katie dealt with darker themes carefully, and in a way that makes them feel raw and emotional but so fitting to the characters, and the ending is so fulfilling.
In short, I think I’ve been converted to the dark romance world and I’m forever thanking Katie for making me an ARC reader 🙏
AHH I NEED EVERYONE TO GO PREORDER MY BESTIE BOOK IT RELEASE AUGUST 22.
Firstly let talk about the Fmc Kayla Sforza omg she is girl boss like she deserves the whole world I was giggling at moment with her like I need friends like her I can relate to her in so many levels that she is perfect I’m so glad I got hear her story.
Secondly let’s talk about the Mmc Lucius Andrade this is my husband with his bipolar self he needs so much love like the way he was written was perfectly the way I was blushing, kicking my feet and I had moments that I was crying toward the end he deserves the whole world he would burn the world for Kayla in the heart beat.
Lastly I appreciate you for giving me the opportunity to read there story and I can’t wait to get physical next month. I can’t wait for book two.
The story centers around a marriage alliance between Viviana Falcone, an artistic, easygoing mafia daughter who loves women, and Lucius Andrade, the son of a cartel boss. Despite Viviana’s disinterest, sparks begin to fly between Lucius and her icy, business-savvy sister Kayla. Their chemistry could disrupt the power dynamics of New York’s criminal underworld.
I found myself chuckling out loud and gasping several times. Katie takes us on a journey throughout this story and I am here for it! I think this would make a perfect read for someone who is just entering the mafia romance genre 💖
Katie, thank you for honoring me with an ARC. I can’t wait to see what else you come up with!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book had me hooked from page one. The tension, the secrets, the way every character is playing their own dangerous game—I couldn’t put it down. It’s dark, sharp, and addictive in the best way. If you love mafia romance with high stakes and characters you can’t stop thinking about, this is a must-read. I love how she has written it it’s like you can’t pull your eyes away you stay glued to the book and that’s what I like in a book that you stay hooked from page one! So definitely a 5 star read for me!
I started reading this book when I was going through a really tough time personally and it helped me escape the crappy reality that is the real world
I love Kayla she is such a strong character she takes no shit from anyone and will put you right back in your place!
Lucius is a secret teddy bear but only for Kayla! Reading the love story between these 2 was an absolute pleasure and I can not wait to see what the next book brings!!
Simply put, I need more, because what do you mean, mafia romance, a baddie fmc, forbidden love (because it’s your sister’s husband), and SHE is the obsessed one (tbf, they’re both equally obsessed, but Kayla didn’t mess around when it came to her Brazilian Papi) AND they’re both morally grey, too! 🤭🖤
This was such a beautifully crafted story of two people who should not be falling for each other, but can’t help their attraction to each other. The chemistry between Kayla and Lucius was INCREDIBLE, I was so giddy over their interactions and their banter was hilarious.
I love Lucius Andrade, like I’m so down bad for that 6’6” PAPI! And of course, I have to give a moment for Kayla, I love, love her, she was an icon, who stood on business, with such a tender heart under her cold persona, I’m so happy that my babies got each other 🥹
Katie, my sweet girl, thank you endlessly for letting me reading your debut novel early, I’m still in awe that this is your DEBUT BABY, I’m so excited for all that’s to come for you, and most importantly, book 2! 👀🤭
Tropes
forbidden romance sister’s husband mafia romance mental health rep morally grey x morally grey
Holy shit. This book is my favourite BY FAR!! 22% through and ts has me in a bloody chokehold. The way Katie writes is utterly mesmerising. I’ve never ever seen it before. The story is so creative yet to the point, it doesn’t dawdle on world building, and the story had me absolutely gripped by page 10. I’m absolutely in awe of this book and I will be recommending it until the day I die!! (I will update this rating as I proceed through the book) Update: I just finished and I stand by my review. The story remained unpredictable but not out of reach, it flowed at a pleasant pace with a balance of funny moments and seriousness. Holy slow burn? I didn’t know such tension could exist between 2 characters until this book. Had me giggling at 3am fr
so obsessed with kayla like i loved that she let no one boss her around and her being in love with lucious didnt ruin her character like some big books would
the fmc and mc was such great characters but it was missing some big plot with angst and lowkey the dialogue was too much sometimes I had no idea what was going on
5 🌟 Two lethal members of the mafia who only go soft for each other? A complete masterpiece. Their connection was explosive in the most satisfying way. The writing was brilliant!!
Pretty good actually. I mean she is lownkey kinda really flipping insane and he is no better and theyre both fucked in the head, but HEY it was good for me atleasttt
Ahh, omg this is my first ARC and my girly Katie was SO sweet to consider me 🥹 I devoured every single word on every single page!! I’m so proud of her 🫂♥️
From the very first page, Tide of Treason had me sat in my seat. The story blends high-stakes tension with deep emotional undercurrents, pulling me into a world where loyalty is tested, danger lurks behind every wave, and choices that could shatter what’s left of the characters’ hearts.
Kayla Sforza UGH, LOVE HER SO MUCHHH. Absolute force. She’s so effortlessly resilient, layered, and so unapologetically herself that you can’t help but root for her. This character has been through so much trauma, and this book had me reflecting on how deeply we can carry scars in our hearts.I loved seeing Kayla open up and grow with Lucius, I especially loved how the mental health representation wasn’t just a side note, but woven meaningfully into the plot with care and authenticity.
And Lucius 🤭 omg he’s so perfect. The love and care he has not only for Kayla but for all his loved ones… you can just tell his heart is so big. His mouth is something DIFFERENT 🙈🙂↕️ and he’s literally become one of my fav book bfs of 2025 LOL. My love for these two characters goes so deep 🥹 Their stories brought tears to my eyes they were literally made for each other.
Katie Calvert’s writing is vivid and magnetic. The pacing kept me on edge without sacrificing emotional depth, and the banter and chemistry? Chef’s kiss. Lucius is so obsessed with anything that Kayla does and I’m so here for it, Every scene felt so intentional. I have SO many notes on my Kindle it’s crazy. Every twist made my jaw drop, and I already know I’ll be grabbing a physical copy just so I can annotate the life out of it.
If you love morally grey x morally grey, dark mafia romance, rival families, sisters husband, time jumps with multi povs and stories that hit hard on both the thrill and the feels, Tide of Treason is one you won’t want to miss.
⭐ Rating: 5!! 🌶️🌶️🌶️ 💬 Trope Check: Morally grey x morally grey • Dark mafia romance • Mental health rep • High stakes & betrayal
HAPPY MF RELEASE DAY GORGEOUS !! i’m so proud of you, i’ve loved seeing you go through this journey of releasing your amazing debut 🥹 i love kayla and lucius so much
“𝔶𝔬𝔲'𝔯𝔢 𝔭𝔞𝔱𝔥𝔢𝔱𝔦𝔠." "𝔣𝔬𝔯 𝔶𝔬𝔲? 𝔞𝔟𝔰𝔬𝔩𝔲𝔱𝔢𝔩𝔶."
kayla is a badass bitch and i absolutely love her!! she takes shit from no one, even lucius, and looks extremely hot while doing it 🤭 the way she softens up towards the end around lucius pulled my heartstrings 🥹 i immediately need her as a bestie so we can make fun of men together LOL
lucius, oh my gosh i’m in love!! he made me giggle, scream and kick my feet, he basically healed my neck LOL the way he is so obsessed with her has me in such a chokehold 😩
their chemistry and banter is unmatched, also the reverse age gap? I’M HOOKED. i love them so much and they are such a cute couple who would also unalive people for each other 🤭 also the forbidden aspect was done so well, omg it’s such a favourite of mine
katie girl, you devoured with this book!! her family had me dead, they’re so funny 💀 also abel? SOBBING 😭✋🏾
tide of treason is out now on ku & amazon!! if you like like mafia, sister’s husband, and grumpy x sunshine with a reverse age gap, you’ll totally love this 😍
This was awesome! The story felt very fresh, new and I enjoyed reading this so much ! Really grateful to the random Instagram reel that pointed me to this book ! I LOVED Kayla and Lucius and their chemistry , their tension- OH,THE TENSION- their dynamic, how they would ,and in different actions did, burn the world for each other. I also loved the plot, the character builds and the writing.
Fair warning, the first 3-4 , small chapters can be unsettling in that the book opens with a very in-your-face reminder that world such books is set in can be or is a despicable, terrible reality--- which I liked about the book. If it's any comfort The rest of the book is fun, colourful, intense, FULL. Not just the leads, the entire cast is very well fleshed out. I had fun reading this, more than I expected.
Really excited about the next part (about a different pairing but set in same world) but also morbidly curious...because how will that work exactly?
I really enjoyed this book.. BUT, I felt like I was lost half the time 😂
I always felt like I was missing something and would often go back and reread, but I would still come out blank, lol.
I loved Kayla. The author made her the perfect amount of hot and lethal, I'm also happy about her not outwardly changing into someone sappy because of Lucius, she stayed the badass that she is.
The way she was obsessed/possessive over Lucius was done great. We're always reading about the MMC obsessed with the FMC, but this one was a great treat. The author didn't turn her into an obsessed stalker, which I loved.
but like I said, I felt like I was missing a lot of what was happening.
Also, the whole hiding the relationship with her sisters husband was supposed to be such a big deal, but it just seemed as if everyone was always privy to them being together, like when was the big reveal? there weren't really any consequences.
That being said, there will be a book 2, but I think I'll skip that one.
Girl, I absolutely loved the trope and the entire plot! I usually read books that focus almost exclusively on the romance, but this one pulled me straight into the world beyond the love story — and I adored that. The tension? Omg, insane. I was hooked from page one. I also fell completely in love with the writing style. It’s so smooth, addictive, and immersive that I didn’t even notice the time passing. And the characters? I adored every single one of them — they felt real, layered, and full of personality. I genuinely cared about what happened to them. And the Portuguese??? I LOVED seeing that. It added such a fun and personal touch to the story. Overall, an amazing read that kept me entertained, emotional, and fully invested. I can’t wait to read more from this author!
Hello. I read this book, but five stars? Not yet. I’m pretty toxic in my reviews — honest. I gave it three stars for the plot, because I actually liked everything about it. But the writing… what is this mess? While reading, I kept getting lost — where am I, who am I, what is happening? 🤷🏻♀ Maybe the author should write more simply or hire a good editor to make the text at least somewhat readable. At times it felt like every chapter was written by an AI. I’m sorry, but I just poured out what I genuinely felt. I don’t want to offend the author, because the book really is interesting, hot (especially Lucius), and dynamic. But… I’ll just be waiting for the second book 🤭💓
as a girl who fell in love with mafia romances years ago, getting to revisit them in books like this makes my heart sing. i fell in love with each character and their personalities, seeing parts of myself in their complexities and engrossing myself in their stories to ignore the world outside for a while. every time i picked this book up, i could hardly put it down! thank you for the arc opportunity, i'm eternally grateful!
Thank you so much for sending me a physical copy of the book!!
This was such an interesting read, the concept felt so unique, especially the internal ‘family’ affair, which I haven’t come across often. The execution was strong, the pacing held up really well, and the ending genuinely tied everything together beautifully.
My only note is that the first seven chapters were a little slow for me, but once it picked up, I was hooked. I’d absolutely recommend it, and I’m so excited for Book 2 already!
