About the author

I began reading my mom’s Harlequin Presents in the fifth grade, and from the first story I knew I wanted to write romance novels.

I like writing about the very ordinary girl thrust into extraordinary circumstances, so my heroines will probably never be lawyers, doctors or corporate high rollers. I try to write characters who aren't cookie cutters and push myself to write complicated situations that I have no idea how to resolve, forcing me to think outside the box. I love writing characters who are real, complex and full of flaws, heroes and heroines who find redemption through love.

I’ve been pretty fortunate in life to experience some amazing things. I’ve lived in France, traveled throughout Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

I am a mom to an amazing boy. I live in Los Angeles, surrounded by friends and family.
I hate washing dishes but I love cooking. I hate washing clothes but I love wearing them.

Writing my bio is difficult because I never know what to say so I hope you like this one. My favorite color is red but I look best in black (it’s slimming). I hate people who don't pick up their dog's crap in public places, people who don’t use turn signals, and I really hate people who are rude and condescending. I especially hate discrimination in all and every form. And although I love holding a book in my hand, I absolutely adore my e-reader, whom I’ve named Ruby. So many books at the touch of a button!

A MATE BETRAYED is book 6 of the Sheridan Pack series. It's a short and steamy, paranormal romance. Kinleigh is devastated when she finds her fated mate with another woman before their mating ceremony. He only wanted her for her status and professed his love for another. She leaves devastated and goes to visit her cousin. Daire is a hunky widower who lost his love years ago. The two agree to have a no-strings fling, but of course, real feelings develop. This couple had decent chemistry and we ended on a happy note after a bit of ex drama.

Betrayal one of the worst you can things you can go through at the hands of another, but fate usually have something better in store for you so hang in there you won’t put this one until the last page has been turned. Moon fated mates one doesn’t want the other, so they walk away after her mate betrayed her when she overheard him telling or proclaiming his love for another she-wolf, stated he was only using her once Kinleigh informs her father of the pain she feels she is allowed to reject him and then goes to visit her uncle’s pack to put herself back together. Upon arriving she meets Daire sexy as all get out hurting from a lost love unwilling to put his heart on the line again, and doesn’t want anything serious (yeah we all know how that works especially if fate has a hand in it) neither does she so a little fun never hurt no one so why not until things go from just fun to something a little more real but when the past come back will she accept, will Daire see that sometimes fate gives you a second chance, will they both realize that love is worth the effort, and will they get the happiness they both want?

Kinleigh saw Vaughn making out with her best friend Annette and recorded them showed her father who showed the pack them exiled them. She went to see her cousin Payton Luna of another pack. Met Daire asked out for a drink, Payton took her to see Savannah for help with the hollow feeling in her chest. Daire needed to let go of the past because of how he was feeling with the way his mate had died so he went to see Savannah too. Neither Daire or Kinleigh wanted more than a fling while she was there but feelings started. Kinleigh went with Vaughn to save her cousin but she called Jericho turned down the volume so he could hear what she was saying about she see was being taken. Annette hit her in the head so he dropped the gun but Daire got there so she was dropped by Vaughn so he could fight Daire. She took out Annette before she could get to Daire then Vaughn was taken care of too. They decided to be chosen mates they wanted more than a fling.

"The glimpse into what her future could've been made her heart ache."

So far every story in this series has been about moon fated mates. This time, we have two people who both had moon fated mates that didn't work out. I like that instead they become chosen mates and agree with Kinleigh that both moon fated and chosen mates should get equal status. Finding love should always be celebrated, especially if you've been hurt in the past.

Both Kinleigh and Daire have been cheated by the High Luna. Kinleigh's fated mate betrayed her with another woman and Daire lost his first love years before.

When they meet, Kinleigh's loss is fresh and she's just looking for something fun and casual to help her move on with life. While Daire has been alone longer, he's also not interested in anything long-term. We all know what's going to happen when two people say they don't want to get involved and then meet and have instant chemistry. They might not be moon fated mates, but fate seems to be involved, regardless.

While I enjoyed this book, I'll be honest, it doesn't have the emotional depth the other books in this series have had. The spark just wasn't there, and not just because it was too short. It's about the same number of pages as the other books, but the story felt like there was something missing. I did really like both Kinleigh and Daire, though. And for once we got to see more characters from past books than just Payton and Jericho, not that seeing Jericho is ever a bad thing. I still adore him. But Ledger & Anais from "Broken Mate" make appearances as does Brinnah from "Moon Fated Mate" although there was no sign of Everett. It was fun seeing them again. Maybe Circe & Miles will be in the next book.

This book, like the others in the series, can easily be read as a standalone although this book does give a ton of spoilers for book one, "The Return of the Alpha" and a few for book three, "Moon Fated Mate" so be warned if you haven't read them yet.

It’s always a challenge to make a novella work in the brief amount of pages it usually has. But Carter does that very well in A Mate Betrayed. The titular action sets up why Kinleigh would hate her fated mate and choose to find a completely new life. She wants freedom, as does Daire, the shifter she meets in her cousin’s town. So they agree to a no-strings relationship while she’s in town for a few weeks. Of course, any good romance reader knows how long that no-strings deal is going to last.

A good thing about novellas is that they can avoid silly reasons not to be together, and Carter is a strong writer who knows how to skirt that trap. I liked how the challenge Kinleigh and Daire faced was one of Kinleigh determining what her life should be after a massive upheaval. And I give serious points for the hero being an HVAC guy!! That’s a profession you don’t see often in romance!

If you’re a shifter-romance fan looking for a good short read, A Mate Betrayed is a grand choice!

Wow, what an emotional ride! I have read the other novels in this series and really enjoyed them. This novel did not disappoint. I love a good paranormal and fated mates novel. This novel checked so many boxes for me. I was so excited to jump back into this series and it did not let me down. From the first chapter this novel sucked me right back into this series and held on tight until the last chapter. My heart hurt for Kinleigh when she finds out and is only wanted for the position of Alpha. I loved that she goes off because she know she deserves better. I loved Kinleigh and Daire together. I loved watching them both lower their defenses and walls and open themselves up to each other and fall in love. Their chemistry is so good! Once I started reading I didn't want to put this novel down. I can hardly wait to see what this author has coming next. So good!

I was going to be so angry if this was a rejected-mate book where they ended up getting back together. I'm happy to say that is not the case. Kinleigh was only hours away from her official mating ceremony with Vaughn, her fated mate. But she discovered him in an embrace with her so-called friend, talking about the fact that he was just using her to become Alpha. After her father banishes the cheaters, she takes a vacation to visit a cousin and meet Daire. They agree pretty quickly to have a friends-with-benefits type relationship, nothing more. But when her ex-mate comes back and kidnaps her, I feel like it forced Daire to finally admit that he wanted more than what they agreed on.

I devoured this book!!! I love the Sheridan Pack settles and this book was unoutdownable. My heart broke for Kinleigh but I loved her strength and determination in this book. There is betrayal, a strong FMC, a guarded MMC, andy and spice. I enjoyed this storyline it was page-turning and original. It was well paced and kept my attention with the drama, suspense, angst and spice. I loved the characters they were complex, both had heartbreaking backstories and an instant and undeniable chemistry. I loved the journey they both went on in this book. It made my heart grow reading their serving chance at love. I can't wait to see what comes next in this series.

This was an engaging addition to the series and I loved how Kinleigh, despite her heartbreak, did the right thing and rejected her mate. Loved the video she sent her father, the alpha! While off for a break to her cousin's town to regroup, she meets Daire. These two have an instant and hot connection and both agree to a no strings relationship. Sadly, danger follows and she and Daire have to fight for their lives. I love how their relationship shifted from new friends with benefits to full on mates. Good fun!

I love this series and Kinleigh & Daire' story is a great addition. Kinleigh's betrayal has her fleeing her pack to visit her cousin and in the direct path of Daire. Handsome Daire is still haunted by lost love. When the two meet, their chemistry is immediate and intense. When they decide to embark on a no-strings fling, neither is prepared for what happens next. Chosen mate was better…

In the first chapter, the fated male mate cheats with the FMC’s friend. They’ve been together for years, apparently. But when everyone turned of age, he was discovered to be the mate and picked to be the Alpha Heir. But once his betrayal is revealed the two cheaters are banished from the pack.

The FMC rejects the male and then heads off to visit her cousin. And the MMC shows up…

A quick story. Both Kinleigh and Daire have lost their chance at their fated mate. Daire's through death and Kinleigh because she rejected him after finding out he was cheating with her friend.

They hit it off right from the first meeting. Daire isn't interested in a relationship and Kinleigh is just visiting the Sheridan pack. The more time they spend with each other, the closer they get.

Enjoyable story, but too short to really have much depth in the relationship.

Kinleigh and Daire’s story has them coming together when she was rejected by her moon mate when he professed his love to another and left to visit her family. They were friends with benefits but when her mate who was banished by her alpha father, after she sent her dad a video, tries to claim her she takes Daire instead. He had last his love and wasn’t thinking of finding a new mate but now he wants her for his mate and they get their hea.

Sweet second chance

The sixth book in the Sheridan Pack series, A Mate Betrayed follows Kinleigh. Now heartbroken after being betrayed by her fated mate, she’s off to visit her cousin in Sheridan, and not with the intention of a carefree night turning into something smoldering between her and Daire. The chemistry is brewing over for these two! A quick second chance story you can get lost in for a spell.

A lovely story that was short and easy to read. Kinleigh had a mate but because she found out he was cheating on her with her best friend, she didn't want to have anything to do with him anymore. His case was different but he also lost his mate. When they meet there is chemistry and attraction but both fight it and gradually they get closer the more time they spend together.

needed an epilogue

There is very specific scenarios talked about by the Enchantress in the book but none of them are really shown in the ending. Other than the lack of final situation, the book is great, but I’m pretty annoyed at the lack of prophetic wrap up.

This is a short and sweet romance that gets to the point with no bloated scenes.
I like Kinleigh and Daire. This is insta-attraction which is refreshing as some stories add roadblocks to drag it out.
This is a well-written book, with plenty of spice and romance.
