Dog Ladies Mysteries #2

Murder, She Sang: A Dog Ladies Mystery

Rate this book
There’s a killer in the choir!

When Gloria Williams agrees to conduct an amateur community choir in Brahms’ Requiem, she’s braced for missed entrances, wandering tempos, and bruised egos—not a body at the base of the church bell tower. The victim was a beloved fixture in town, universally admired. So who would want him dead?

With help from fellow Dog Ladies Priya Visser and Ryan Hsia (and their pack of inquisitive dogs, of course), Gloria soon senses the discord at work in Verdin Springs. Old grudges resurface and buried secrets crescendo, and the Dog Ladies must sniff out more than one sour note in their choir of misfits.

Once again, the trio teams up with Detective Holly Garcia to uncover the killer who turned a sacred rehearsal into a deadly finale.

Murder, She Sang is a fast, fun mystery full of twists, found family, and lots of canine antics.

I'm rating this as four stars because it's enjoyable as a cozy mystery. It has forgivable issues that might otherwise make it three stars.
I really like the fact that the Dog Ladies stories don't rely on a young woman inheriting a bakery/guest house/coffee shop/bookstore to get the story started. The characters are a well-drawn mix of older people and mid-range adults with all their different concerns. The personalities and idiosyncracies are portrayed in a realistic, entertaining, sympathetic way. Also, I like how the dog characters are done. We get some of their inner thoughts, and they are dog like, not snarky human or toddler.
In this installment of the series, I had trouble with how the police character, Holly, was unreasonably angry and rude for much of the book. The mystery itself was a little bit tedious. But overall, I do look forward to book 3 of the Dog Ladies.

Kind of like the Golden Girls, but not lol

These books get better and better! I adore the characters and their quirks! I think it’s so fun that the murderer is revealed early on and you get to watch the characters get to figure it all out. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite series.

Comical

This author knows how to tell a story. She keeps you laughing but still surprised at the ending. I love the Dog Ladies (and guy) plus the dogs have character too! Will always read this series, hope there's more to come.

4.5 ⭐️ Agh, I just love these characters so much! This wasn't QUITE as good as the first of the series, but I still really loved it, and the mystery was good!

The second book in this series was good. It had funny parts and also showed how they all stick together and are there for one another. Also it was a quick read.

Nighttime novel

I liked the odd traits of the characters and the odd references to senior issues. Easy to read at night and still be sleepy later.
