This is the second time I’ve read Frankenstein, but this time it was a re-styled version of the book. Even though it was pretty accurate and complete, it felt like a new experience.
It was great because I didn’t remember many of the nuances of the story, and it made me reflect on the responsibilities of a creator toward its creation, no matter what that creation is: human, machine, book, food, etc. Where does our responsibility as creators end?

On top of that, I read it with a great group of people in a Book Club, reading out loud in English, which is why I’m writing this review in English.

Frankenstein is an incredible gothic novel written by a woman who, I believe, was ahead of her time. For me, she’s an amazing example of how to achieve things we sometimes consider impossible, whether because of society or the inconveniences we might find along the way.

Furthermore, the story itself is a powerful example of how society is also responsible for the behavior of its own people. It makes me think about how small actions reflect the overall behavior of a community, and how this, in turn, shapes each one of us. The moment when the monster asks, “Am I the only criminal in this story?” is an excellent opportunity to reflect on the way we treat others. Even though there are many things beyond our control, what is truly in our hands is the chance to treat others with kindness.

Regarding the relationship between the creature and his creator, I think that we (as creators) are responsible for the intentions behind what we create. But we cannot stop progress just because we fear something might be used by the wrong hands. I mean, everything can be misused: a hammer, a candle, a pen; but that doesn’t mean progress should stop. As a creator, I believe our responsibility ends when we deliver our creation to someone else or to society.
