Werewolves meet the Wild West in this captivating new shifter romance series from T. S. Joyce.
Kristina Yeaton is running from her past as a working girl at a Chicago brothel. Determined to start fresh in the wilds of Colorado, she answers an advertisement in the paper for a wife. So what if she doesn’t fit the description Luke Dawson wants in a woman? She aims to survive the hell that’s coming for her, and for that, she’ll need a strapping man who isn’t afraid to get his hands a little bloody.
Kristina expects a hideous husband with a bad attitude to match. What she finds in Colorado Springs is crude talking, sexy as hell, commitment phobic, Luke. Sure, his eyes are a strange color, and the snarl in his throat can be off-putting, but as she gets to know more about him, she falls head over high-backed heels for the growly stranger. If she can get him to the circuit preacher before he learns her secrets, she just might have a shot at staying alive.
Werewolf, Luke Dawson, is struggling with dark secrets of his own when Kristina barrels onto his homestead. No doubt she’s hiding something big, but she’s also stirring up feelings he’s never felt before. His wolf is more dangerous to her than she knows though, and he’ll have to work to keep her safe, even from himself.
And as it turns out, he’s not the only one hunting her.
Content Warning: explicit love scenes, language, badass Wild West werewolves, and sexy shifter secrets. Adult only shifter romance.

I was expecting the usual, but instead I got the unexpected!
I loved the heroine, Kristina, to pieces since the very beginning!!! She's a... lady of the night... a whore, as she says herself!!!
She such a fantastic woman. She's not bitter and she not angry with life! All the contrary: she's positive, she's full of life, she's fun and optimistic! She also doesn't allow men to walk all over her in any way! She stands for herself!
SHE'S GREAT!!!
Luke was OK, but he was overshadowed by Kristina and because of her awesomeness he appeared weaker than he was and more uncertain of himself. He's also very pessimistic and he's fighting against his wolf and what being a werewolf implies.
But, even the most courageous woman can be afraid. Because a really even person is after Kristina!
I won't spoil the story for you, so you have to read the bok to find out!
The story does have a HEA, a lot of action and heat (even if there's actually just one explicit scene of sex)!
I generally am not real fond of this author but I'm glad I gave this one a go. Werewolves in the old west. I set my willing suspension of disbelief on the first page which allowed me to not nitpick about historical anachronisms. I enjoyed the heroine. Her backstory was well though out and I wonder why I've never read that plot line before. The hero didn't shine as much as the heroine did but he was okay. The werewolves were a tad different to what has become normal in romance lately so that was nice. On to the next one.
This series has some of my favorite themes: Shifters, mailorder brides and homesteading. So I was all over this and I was not disappointed. This takes place in the same world as her "Fur Hire" series, but is set about a 150 years earlier. We even meet the ancestors of the Dawson boys from Chance Fur Hire and Dawson Fur Hire, which I thought was pretty cute.
3.0⭐️ This mail-order bride, wolf-shifter romance immediately captured my attention. There is gripping, heart-pounding action, extreme violence that is provoked and retribution that is wholly justified. The book also showcases two prominent women that are strong and quite impressive; one is the main character, Kristina, who is feisty, strong-willed, speaks her mind and is brave, no matter the circumstances. The other woman is a secondary character, but no less a heroine in my eyes—Trudy is a freedwoman (an emancipated slave), who’s smart, fearless, nonjudgmental and whose wealth of knowledge proves to be invaluable to Kristina, Luke and Jeremiah. Additionally, I found Luke, his brother, Jeremiah, and Trudy’s husband, Elias (a white man), to be intriguing, cunning, and very appealing characters.
With respect to the sexual content in the book, a warning specifies that it has “explicit sex scenes.” That statement is patently inaccurate. Only ONE brief sex scene appears in the book at the 95% mark, and IMO, it’s not explicit. Similarly, I was disappointed with the lack of sexual tension, too few intimate moments, and the paucity of sexual interludes, whether explicit or not.
As a whole, the book is entertaining, and I did enjoy it to a certain extent. I’ve read several of this author’s books, and I feel certain that her fans will undoubtedly love this first book in the series.
Easily the best series I have read this year. I have not stopped raving about this series to anyone who will listen, and to loads of people who would not. A paranormal western, go figure. I loved the humour threaded throughout the book, it was delightful. The story was superb, but this is a character lead book. Kristina, was a true heroine, she was a whore due to circumstances beyond her control, but still possessed the confidence of youth with a wisdom beyond her years. Her positive upbeat outlook on life and willingness to adapt to change and accept differences was lovely. She had a dignity those who looked down on her could only wish for. Luke, was the male version of Kristina. Open, loving, loyal, accepting, beautiful inside and out. Again he had a hard life, but still childlike in his view of the world. He worked hard and loved hard. Jeremiah, just has that X Factor, he wasn't as warm as the other two but had something that drew you in and made you love him, looking forward to his story in the next book. An amazing start to an amazing series.
It's not often I find myself liking the h more in a story but here we are. She's strong willed and refuses to let anything break her spirit. She's determined and She's soft hearted. I really didn't think the H did anything to deserve her.
There's a scene where they visit a saloon where the H has said he's bedded half the girls and once they walk in three girls are all over him, the h is okay with it because it just reminds her of what she used to do to get customers and the only time a 'working girl' acts like that is if they're a good tipper or the man is good in bed, so now She's excited at the prospect of her future husband to be good in bed 😒 But then he introduces his wife to the girls and one of them gets angry, continues pouting and clinging on to him, sits on his lap and he's trying to " slowly pry her off of him" and she goes as far as kissing him and thats when the h has had enough and jumps on her, pulling at her hair 🙄 This whole scene was unnecessary 😒
Then he leaves her for months! Because she deserves someone better, someone who can give her kids ( he doesnt want them due to seeing what his mom went through in regards to females dying and males having to go through painful shifts) MONTHS! Sure, he goes off to kill the villain so the h is safe forever but when he comes back there's no groveling or any big reconciliation for her waiting for him and just.. no, he wasn't good enough. 😒
The next book seemed promising when I read the blurb but now I know the H for that one has already loved and lost and is looking for a new wife for his wolf to settle down because they lost their mate.
And then the third one is about the brother who's been in wold form for a while but apparently in that book he ends up having a son he didnt know he had so...no thank you 😒

Wolf Bride was a wonderful read. It came my attention throughout. I was emotionally invested from the very beginning in the characters and story. I am definitely looking forward to reading more of this series and more from this author. It was an enjoyable read and I definitely recommend it.
This is what happens when you forget that the author is already on your 'author-not-for-me' bookshelf.
🐺 A Wolf-Shifter Romance 🐺
The story started well when Kristina the whore (mentioned 45 x's), decided to leave the Chicago brothel. She answers an ad to be a mail-order bride and heads to Colorado. She lied about herself, so Jeremiah, who posted the ad, doesn’t want her. Instead, he gives her to his brother Luke.
At first, Luke is hesitant, but after a few days he starts to like Kris, and a mate bond begins to develop. Kris is often humorous, and Luke is sweet & protective.
Why I DNF'd: ✘ Evelynn French, the villain, forced Kris into prostitution by threatening her mother. While Kris worked at a Chicago brothel, Evelynn checked on her every two weeks. After Kris leaves, Evelynn sends killers after her—just because she caught Kris and her son in bed. Puh-leeze. 🙄
▪️Kris arrives in Colorado cheerful and unaffected by her past as a whore. She even seemed to enjoy it, based on her comments. If she had chosen the job willingly, that would be one thing, but being forced into it makes her attitude unlikely. ▪️Her beloved mother is completely forgotten.
✘ Third Act Breakup. Luke leaves for about 20% of the story, driven by fears of Kris rejecting him as a wolf-shifter, hurting her with his bite, or her getting hurt in the wilderness. He refuses to have children to pass on his curse. Refusing to stay and protect her as promised, he runs away. The best thing he does is get rid of Evelynn.
😬 Luke is angry when he returns and learns his brother proposed to her, being the man that Luke refused to be. Luke fights him for no good reason.
✘ Kris is the main pursuer; I dislike when the woman won't leave and has to chase after her man.
✘ There's little to no sexual chemistry, tension or passion. The one sex scene after 90% was boring. Here's a good portion of it: I gasped as he plunged in again and brought a tingling wave of pleasure that just about bowed me over. Clawing at his back, my body filled with pressure I’d never experienced before. His powerful hips pumped against mine with every stroke, and just as I found myself on the verge of an explosion, his cock swelled even bigger within me. His pace was punishing, but still, I wanted more. “Faster,” I cried out, and he obliged until I screamed his name and the first wave of my release crashed through me, clenching around him until his first shot of heat burst into me. Two more deep strokes and he swelled again and gave me more of his release. Wet heat trickled down my thighs as he growled out my name and emptied himself completely.
❗AN ERROR: Kristina - I could count, but reading was beyond me... A short time later - Fingering the yellowing envelopes, I read the return name aloud. “Gable Dawson of Colorado Springs.”
This book was just okay for me. It just didn't read all that realistic. The lead h was a women forced to be a whore but who still had a heart of gold and a optimistic outlook. I just didn't buy that she could be that upbeat and accepting of her time being forced into a whore house. There wasn't a lot of wolf in the book either. It was kind of like a minor part of the book. Half way through the H stillhadn't let the h know that he was a werewolf, they hadn't actually gotten together either then he disappeared for months so there was no interaction between the H and h for a big part of the book. I don't typically read historical romances and this one wasn't much of a romance. It was just okay, I won't be reading the next book in the series.
I loved this story from beginning to the end! I loved how Kris never gave in to the darkness and had the strength to learn ranching while Luke learned how to be a husband.
What. The. Hell ? Sorry, but DNF here. I’ve been lingering with this book for days. Gotta cut it lose and send it back to KU oblivion.
I know the saying,”Win some, lose some.” Is true with even the best of writers, sometimes their vision becomes your vision and you love and adore it almost as much as that new car or puppy you’ve been wanting for years. Other times you “think” you might understand what’s going on but really you end up walking away liked you’d just wandered thru a collage physics class and your not sure if up is really up any more. Ot you walk away thinking WTF? trying to remind yourself of all the other books you really did love by this writer and end up saying the above phrase to yourself . And grateful to God you only wasted time and not money to.
What am I on about ? Luke is a huge douche nugget! I started this series backwards but I’m not one that minds spoilers and i can often hate surprises ( too many bad ones) in my stories , so it works for me. Anyway, I started this series with the Christmas shirt story set almost 20 years in the future. Didn’t love it ,but sadly I often do Ms. Joyce’s shirt stories,to me she needs more to work with ,she just isn’t at her best in short form. The usually end up feeling to shallow with not enough substance to feel like your reading anything. Seriously, compare “Dead of Winter” or Vyr’s story or most of the Trailer park stores like the Greybacks or the Boarlanderx to her Holiday stories or the Vampire series. Some just have enough meat in the bones to make a story that makes ya laugh and cry and touches your soul. Some aren’t even either to make an appetizer at a medium priced restaurant chain. Seriously , your walking away hungry. Trudy’s daughter and Jeremiah’s sadly were clunky and awkward to me and boring as heck buuuuuut Luke and the others were funny and silly and gave me enough of that famous trailer park vibe to where I was curious. You know that cat might not have died solely because it was curious, I’m thinking it was boredom or frustration that might have played a part as well. Anyway,Luke was a self absorbed lil douche nugget and ran hot and cold so much and to such an extreme poor Kristina was in danger of succumbing to both hypothermia and heat stroke. Poor, poor lil B. I liked and respected Kristins . Life hadn’t always handed her the best of choices but the was kind and caring and tried her best to keep a good out look and survive with her heart in tact. Bad things had happen to her but she was determined not to let them define her Sadly, both the writer and her intended mate didn’t feel the same way. Dear lord, wanna “good” drinking game ? Take a shot every time Kristina’s past as a hore is mentioned or brought up. Geez, it’s mentioned almost daily. Poor girl can’t read and knows nothing about surviving in the old west but she hits the ground running and does her best and is honest even when it hurts. Luke in the other hand is off somewhere more often than he’s around,is kind one minute and demanding the next. Uses her last to judge who she is even though she tells him being a prostitute wasn’t her choice, she only did it to save someone else and was only at it a year or so and escaped as soon as she could . Yet he acts like it should define who she is when children come up. All the while he’s holding back a HUGE secret from her because he fears being judged himself. Hypocritical coward! Then while he’s leaving her to draw the wrong conclusions based on said cowardice, he runs off and plans to leave her permanently when she finds out . WTF! Seriously, hot 🥵 and cold 🥶,then gone . Kinda sweet and loving, then being insensitive and down right stupid. This story was neither fun nor romantic and I couldn’t make it past 51% of the book. Looking forward Ms. Joyce’s next book in her Bulls series but this didn’t work for me at all and I’m not coming back for the rest. I wish PNR historical or historical PNR was more of a thing, you know kinda like “Bridgerton” only with Fae,Vampires, shifters, witches etc. I think that would be awesome ❣️ But this, this just doesn’t work and it’s not because it isn’t set in Regency England .
I'm not sure what I expected when I read this book as an historical Western romance based around three shifter brothers doesn't exactly seem the norm. I'm glad I picked it up, however, because it was a really entertaining read that was quite different from anything I've read before due to the shifter aspect being part of a western. Kristina answers an advertisement for a man seeking a wife in the the untamed Colorado Springs. While she doesn't fit the criteria her intended fiance posted, she's desperate to escape her life as a poorly educated prostitute in a seedy part of Chicago. Jeremiah, her intended, rejects having an experienced, lower class woman as his bride (in a nice way), instead offering up his brother, Luke. While Luke is angry at first he, somewhat surprisingly, seems to go along with it and the two begin to enjoy each other's company. It can never be that easy and Kristina's past catches up to her as an old enemy isn't easily letting her slip through their fingers, determined that she live a miserable life to amend for what her nemesis perceives as past sins.
While the romance side of things was a slow burn, the writing was great and kept me entertained throughout the novel. The author didn't gloss over the prejudices of the time relating to colour, gender and occupation and while it seemed a strange setting to have a shifter story line, it actually really worked in a unique way. I thought Kristina might grate on me as she came across as a bit abrasive at first, not to mention she'd lied in responding to the advertisement, but the author did a great job of showing her to be resilient, compassionate and optimistic in the face of all the negatives life had thrown at her making her a great female lead. She made no apologies for who she was nor what her former occupation was and approached life with a glass half full attitude that was refreshing. She had no idea or skills on how to live in the wilds but she was determined to learn and make herself useful, making her stand out from your usual heroine.
Luke screamed confident alpha and I was glad to read that while he was walking testosterone, he wasn't too over the top nor arrogant. It was a tad unbelievable how he gave in to the marriage but twists in the story put that on the back burner anyway. Luke had his own demons as the author put her own spin on shifters making it extremely painful in transforming into a wolf. He also didn't want to burden a wife with the shifter prejudices and danger, nor the tragedy that could come with a wife having his children. He was still possessive and sweet towards Kristina so even though he did a bit of the 'I'm not good enough for her', he redeemed himself without it being cheesy.
I'll warn other readers that the use of the word 'wh*re' is used pretty frequently and loosely in the book and I found it pretty abrasive, particularly when Luke used it in Kristina's direction. True, he was never malicious, but it didn't sit well with me. A couple of other things stood out to me. For a pretty upfront and street smart woman, Kristina made a couple of strange decisions that stood out when she was in trouble. There was also a lack of reconciliation with a family member that had meant a lot to her - this part of the story line seemed to disappear.
There's no steam until right towards the end of the book so I wouldn't necessarily agree with the book's description of having explicit love scenes even though the one that was there had a teeny bit of kink due to the shifter element. The ending is happy and the epilogue sets the series up for Book 2. It also sounds good so I'll definitely be continuing with this series and the author.
2.5 stars rounded down because I'm getting more annoyed by this book as I write the review.
I very nearly DNFed this at 23%, but decided not to as I didn't feel like I was giving this story a fair shot. I then nearly DNFed at 93% but figured I could make it through the last 11 minutes - by that point the damage had been done.
So I have no problem with the bare bones of the plot - shifter brother looking for love writes away for a mail order bride and is disappointed when a former prostitute shows up. That's whatever. I didn't mind that the brother would then be the romantic interest, or that the bride would be fleeing something awful which would follow her to her new home. Again, fine. I didn't mind that a lot of the story was her acclimatising to frontier living and him not coping well with his wolfy nature. Again this is all fine. The resolution was also fine. I'm not going to spoiler it here. The problem I had was entirely with the execution. The switch from one brother to the other felt completely inorganic and utterly unromantic. The something awful she was fleeing from fit poorly with how her character was defined - . The resolution required the existence of an organisation that had at no point been mentioned up to this point. It all felt like really lazy writing.
I didn't like the way the story handled native American and Black people - our hero's are of course totally OK with non-white people and stand up for the freed enslaved woman (on one occasion that never crops up again) thus letting you know they are Good People. I've not really read much set in this time period so maybe this is a common flaw? I just didn't like it.
I also just really didn't like the FMC. She's only 19, which felt ridiculously young given the plot. She is incompetent at anything other than being a prostitute, which we are meant to understand she was very good at, even though she had a totally different profession prior to a year ago. She apparently made good money, but was unable to afford a new dress pre departure to Colorado Springs. There is a moment where her life is endangered, in part because it is raining so she decides to close her eyes rather than check who is rescuing her. And then there is the one spicy scene. In which she tricks the MMC into having sex with her mid transformation into a wolf. Which is ok because if he is a monster, so is she because she has scars. Dear Lord save us from ableist nonsense.
Kristina answers an ad for a wife, leaving behind her life as a brothel worker. When she shows up, Jeremiah, the one who wrote the ad looking for a wife, doesn't think she'd suite him (loud, can't cook, a saloon girl...) so he pawns her off to his bachelor brother who has never wanted to get married. She's escaping her old life with a few secrets, but the brothers have a big secret of their own - the fact that they are werewolves that own and work a ranch.
This was so fun, I love historical westerns. I love paranormal shifter romances. I love the mail-order bride trope. This was full of snarky banter, will they won't they, and a lot of action. It is a slow burn, they don't get together until the very end (and them coming together was a smidge anticlimactic) BUT the story and build up was great and I'm more than excited to read the rest.
There's a lot getting in the couples way, from themselves and outside influences. This also has some scenes I don't love to see (false assumptions and I have to leave to protect you). Also for a shifter romance, this doesn't have the fated mates trope. They use the term mate, and are loyal and mate forever and all that, but there's no fated destiny instinctual thing that I've seen in all other shifter romances.
Normally all of my DNFs are 1 stars, and sometimes 2. but I gave this 3 because I really really enjoyed the beginning of this book, and I even highlighted a fair amount because I thought the heroines voice was unique and funny. but after a while everything just felt so rushed. I'd wager this book would have done so much better if it was twice the size. Stories need to be woven. Give us a chance to get to know the characters, to fall in love with them.
This book has promise, and interesting plot points and situations, but most of the interesting things that happen would have been so much more interesting if fully fleshed out. Like it happens, then is over and done with before it ever really starts. Draw it out for pete's sake!
Like at the start, Luke isn't even looking for a wife, his brother is. and as soon as his brother realizes Kris isn't his type he just pushes her to Luke like "Okay you're getting married, surprise." Luke kicks up a fuss (Understandably!) but after just a few hours he has seemed to resign himself to his fate, and then after just one DAY he gives her a ring and asks her to marry him. LIKE WHAT?!?!
Another example that had me rolling my eyes and sighing was this: Kris and the guys come back to the farm from visiting town and she starts getting emotional about how she sees the house as a home. The first home she's had in a while. she starts thinking about how much she feels like she belongs and how much she loves to be there... shes been there for two days. TWO DAYS. Then something happens about 2 pages after that scene that brings her away from the farm. But oh look, shes home sick now. Its so heart wrenching that she got so attached to the farm because now she's sad about it. Augh. So transparent and forced. Oh, but don't worry too much, because after about one to two pages the thing that brought her away from the farm? Its over and done with so YAY shes going back!
TALL LEAN SEXY COWBOY, SWIFT SLEAK RUNNING HORSES, A FEW INDIANS = GOOD OLD WESTERN
4 STARS for this emotion filled action packed paranormal story of a mail order Bride who is running away from cruelty inflicted by someone who thinks she went beyond her social status and makes her pay in an ugly way but she holds that in secret. The Groom and Cowboy in our story lives and ranches with one of his brothers with the other one still not returned from the war, but these brothers have a secret they will be keeping from the mail order bride, werewolves in the old west. Our Bride was forced to be a whore by blackmail and shows up in a dress that leaves little doubt to her profression; then the brother she came to marry could not marry her because he was a widower and couldn't overlook her last job but said his brother needed a wife also, and the situation of her would not bother him at all. Terrific characters that come together out of mutual respect & accepting of each other's State of Outcast status snobs in the surrounding area placed on them but are the kind that stand by friends. I enjoyed this book and it is different as other paranormal western books usually have sci fi at the end or something but this is a true western cowboy book except they change to wolves. WARNING: 17 & Up SEXUAL CONTENT: Yes
Kristina Yeaton fell in love with the son of the woman she worked for, when the lady of the house found out. She sold her to a brothel, and each year the woman came to visit her. Kristina put up a happy front but she was dying on the inside. One day she escaped her nightmare and found her way to Colorado Springs.
Luke Dawson, a Wolf shifter who lived in Colorado Springs with his two brothers, Jeremiah and Gable. He pit an ad in a paper looking for a bride. When the beautiful Kristina arrived at his ranch, he knew that she was hiding something. As they got to know each other, they fell in love.
But Kristina's past found her in Colorado Springs which didn't sit well with Luke. The latter thought letting her go would be the answer but he didn't know how wrong he was. She was made for him and vice versa. When danger came knocking on his door he feared he wouldn't make it in time to save the woman he loved.
Liked the friendship between Trudy, Elias, Kristina and Jeremiah. Those Dawson men had some fierce and loyal people in their corner. So glad Luke got his HEA.
WOLF BRIDE is the first book in T. S. Joyce's WOLF BRIDES series. It was interesting, a wee slow-paced and different. Great job by T. S. Joyce!
Compared to her other books, this was a hard pass. I know she was getting into the time period, but I won’t be continuing with this series. A lot of negative talk (except by our main characters of course) about whores, black people, and Native Americans (this is supposed to take place sometime close to the end of the Civil War). Jerimiah passed her on to Luke because he wants a “proper” wife, not an ex-prostitute who has been with a bunch of men. She also has a very sunny disposition for someone who was forced into a brothel under threat of her mother being murdered and being told she can never see her again. The story is also very slow and focused on settler life, not the shifter aspect. The sex is basically non-existent and there is a lot lacking in the world building aspect.
Coming out of this book all I can tell you is it is Civil War era, there are wold shifters who are always male, some are man eaters (giving all a bad name), and there is some kind of wolf hunters who are easy enough to find. Werewolves are apparently some kind of not-so-secret secret?
The book ended up being an ok read. The book had a stop & go flow to it. About the time I'd get frustrated & contemplate quitting, it would improve. It was also hard to get into this book at first, the main character, Kristina, was not very likable. It took half of the way thru -where I didn't hate her. Luke was alright, I felt he wasn't off-putting like her. He wasn't memorable though, or make me think of him as a favorite hero from all the books I've read. The plot took some twists & turns, and had a few surprises, one of the reasons I kept reading. I think the biggest hiccup, sometimes the language would be from modern times (today), and sometimes it would be like it would be in the 1800's where the book is taking place. It was random places & not consistent, but it took away from the story, making me think, no they wouldn't have said that back then sort of thing. I'm not sure if I will continue with the series at this point.
Just read T.S. Joyce's Wolf Bride, book 1 in the Wolf Brides series. I cannot begin to tell you how many of Joyce's books I've read. I save them for when I really need them because I'm a binge reader and I don't want to run out. Sometimes I get in that Hallmark (as opposed to Lifetime) mood. I'm down, maybe sick at home on the couch. I'm not feeling like anything heavy, but stories that follow the expected Hallmark storyline just aren't enough. So I check my list of Joyce's books because I want Hallmark with teeth, claws, blood, shifters, and a little angst. Not the kind of angst where I have to put a book down for a couple of days. Wolf Bride does all that. Joyce always delivers the HEA, or at least HFN, so no matter how worried you are about the characters, it'll be okay. If you're a fan, go ahead and read this one. I'll be starting on book 2 today.
Kristina Yeaton escaped Chicago to be Jeremiah Dawson’s mail order bride in Colorado Springs. Wedding an ex-whore that didn’t cook or clean did suit him so he pushed Kristina to his brother Luke. Kristina’s afraid her past could make Luke reject her but they like each other, though Luke doesn’t feel safe enough to share his secret.
Not everyone’s as willing to let Kristina change her life, luckily, she finds a friend willing to be a friend but plus her friend has all the household talents Kristina lacks. Before Luke gathers the nerve to share his secret, horror from Kristina’s past kidnaps her trying to force her into her former life. Luke’s not letting anyone take his mate away! Rating: 4stars
I really enjoyed this book, but I seem to enjoy all of TS Joyce books. The only complaint was when Luke came back. I just wished it wasn't still "does he want me" still storyline. I wished he was just a lil bit more like "yep your my woman"! But in the end he does do that.
This was a good story and different. We get a lady who worked at a brothel, but really no choice of her own. A family of werewolf's: one broken, one that hates the change, and one gone all set in historical Western romance. Throw in her best friend Trudy who is freed and a town who doesn't like the Dawsons and it makes a great story!
I was rereading T.S. Joyce's Husband/Bear/Mate Fur Hire series, when I remembered that somehow, the Wolf Bride series was connected to the characters. I'm glad to reread this series. The Civil War Era is filled with Wild West and homesteader's stories, so it's nice to see the shifters in a different light here. I love the brothers, Jeremiah and Luke, and I'm so looking forward to getting to meet Gable, the missing brother!! Kristina is a wonder; strong, brave, and resiliant!
I enjoyed the setting of the book as rural Colorado circa 1870 is not common in the paranormal romance genre. I felt like I was learning the homestead lifestyle of the brothers along with Kristina which made the book a richer experience. Instantly likable, I wanted Kristina to find her happily ever after as she tackled each challenge with a positive attitude. I loved that she proved herself to be tough without losing her feminity or having a pity party. Overall an excellent book and I'm excited to start reading its sequel.
Kristina for all her trouble still keeps her sanity and humor. She decided to take her life back into her own hands and heads out to be a mail order bride for Jeremiah. When she get there though she is told she doesn’t get him cause of her past employment. She gets his brother Luke instead. This is news to Luke since he was never going to get married. Now he has a women that he is becoming attracted to. Add in bad people from her past to throw a wrench into their maybe hea. Then Luke’s thinking to much may be more of a problem they can’t solve.
First off...this series REALLY should be read BEFORE the "Fur Hire" series because there are characters referenced and this takes place before then.
All that said, I was shocked how it turned from Jeremiah to Luke, but damn if I didn't love Kristina (and not just because my bestie is one!) She's an absolute hoot and a woman after my own heart. Cheeky as all get out too! The Frenches however can go roast themselves. And imagine my surprise when McCalls showed up.......Kristina is definitely a favorite!
Wao!!! Fantastic read. Kristina is running from her pass and is determined to find respectability as a married woman so she anwsers a advertisement for a mail order bride. Little did she know her life will change for ever. I loved Kristina! Despite everything she went through she was determine to don't let it dump her happy disposition. She was so bear, determined and fierce. Highly recommended
