I've read at least 4 books by "Mask Feast" now, and while I've enjoyed some more than others, each definitely has something that has stayed with me. Even with books/series I have no interest in continuing, there are more I want to read, and in fact have picked up another by her currently.
ANYWAY, I really liked this one. I also read some NU comments before starting. Those are hit/miss, and this time I felt they were WAY too judgey [maybe also cuz the book I'd read prior had an ACTUAL useless FL in a super toxic relationship...] this one ... she wasn't useless. She did what she could, didn't try to do what she couldn't. She wasn't over powered, didn't try to take on too much, didn't over estimate herself and fuck shit up, and TBH that's an underrated and under appreciated skill.
It also worked for their relationship, and made them both happy, so there you go.
I unfortunately am stuck kinda on the extra/the AWFUL not the book ended on - ugh WHY. This time it really was an unnecessary extra.
I've now read at least my third "changing fates"/big ceremony thing - though this didn't have a threat of mass murder. I did feel there were some big gaps - that whole tomb thing and then the ... wtf going back into the past [only not] and the questions left unanswered ...
FL truly is lucky in that she gets to be simple, and stay simple. But she's not STUPID. She definitely understands her relationship and what they both want and what works for them. She also changed basically every bad thing that had happened to her in the first life, and helps resolve a LOT of things - just it's not done with great fanfare.
I wish we got more about Wei/QianWu.
I can definitely see myself re-reading this book [though I think Jin Wang edges this out slightly still so far]
