Not a particularly special collection of articles (because each chapter is actually a different piece by different authors) other than the pretty high quality cover of the work, which will look good on your bookshelf.

The idea of blending Corps history and an attempt to explain the spirit is neat but falls flat. Part of the issue is simply every chapter varies in quality (and how much it beats you over the head with very eye-rolling Marine sentiment). Really you could get a better product (assuming you want a visual history) by combining Semper Fi: The Definitive Illustrated History of the U.S. Marines for your history and the elder Krulak's (who's son and then acting Commandant has the ending chapter) First to Fight: An Inside View of the U.S. Marine Corps for capturing the true modern spirit of the Corps.

The one real noteworthy section I must point out is the one on the President's Own. Nothing I have seen has described the history and duties of the Marine Corps Band as well as that section did. The general history is fine if unspectacular. The Marines in Movies should have been more interesting but it's just full of false hoods and similar things that degrade it.

The last of the sections focuses on the future of warfare and, this being published pre-GWoT or 9/11, is a bit of an interesting look back. Some of the tech they were talking about is firmly in the realm of failed "future soldier" program but others were maybe a bit early (the real peak of personal drones would be a decade after the larger ones) but where they really hit is the emphasis on urban warfare when maybe the biggest Marine combat widely known since publication is Fallujah.

TL:DR - You can probably skip this. Though it looks nice on the shelf.
