I was rooting for this project to fund on Kickstarter from Day 1 and WOO HOO, it's here!!!
This was my first experience with a solo journaling TTRPG, but I was really blown away. I sat down with this book when I wanted a break from reading and writing, but still wanted to feel creative. I'm very glad I did.
First off, all you need is the book, playing cards, two standard dice (d6s), and something to write in. I really recommend writing by hand if you can, but if handwriting is painful for you, then I suggest typing. Once you have all of those in hand, you'll embark on your journey as a magical letter on its way to its recipient.
It is so clear how much care went into this project. Care for the work itself, care for all the extra supplies it came with, care for the reader, and subsequently, the world itself. This is a book (a game, an experience?) that wants to connect you to your empathy, your emotions, and way this complicated world can change you. It draws you in for fun twists and tugs on your heartstrings that surprise you. The very game itself is constructed so that you're challenged to engage in mindfulness, partly for yourself as the player and partly for your character, the letter.
It's an equally incredible exercise for storytellers wanting to hone their craft and those who have never told a story in their lives. It's a warm invitation to engage with your creativity in a safe, judgement-free way, while rewarding that creativity with new discoveries.
I also love the flexibility. You can take your time with the mindfulness and expanding your story. The pace is your own and the journal is set up so that you can play it again and again and again.
Overall, this is a wonderful work that I'm so honored to have supported on Kickstarter! I can't wait to see what other awesome things this author creates. If you're looking for something to help you get out of your head in a healthy way, I definitely recommend giving this a try!
