I have been loving these re-releases of the McCullough Mountain series. I love spending time with them and seeing them find their HEAs. I really can't wait to go back in time and read about the parents and also see Kate get her man too.
For now, I just finished reading about Braydon and Becca. Who start as a One Night Stand and end up on the Forever and Always train. It's not an easy road for them though. Not that it ever is. But Becca may be wild and free and looking for a good time when she meets Bray, but it's only gonna be that ONE NIGHT in her mind.
Then she walks into work the next day and who should be collaborating with her company but... Braydon McCullough! The last person she wants to see, because he might want to see her again.. he might send her flowers and show up at her house and find out that she not the carefree woman he met before... in fact, she is overwhelmed being a single, divorced mom to a sweet but difficult Autistic son, Hunter.
This book did a great job showing the challenges she was facing while also showing her love and hope for Hunter's future. I also loved how Braydon dived right in and did his research but also wasn't afraid to ask questions and see how he could support Becca.
My biggest issue with this one was the 3rd act break up in this book. It soured a lot of the happy feelings I was having in a way i didn't expect from this author. However, the dream that Braydon offers of course, wins out in the end. And I still look forward to many more books in the future.
I have read all of The McCullough Mountain series books - except Luke's book (book 5). I might still go back & read it - since I'm pretty happy with Luke & Tristan in this one. They have a very small role in book 6, but I had "some closure"with the Sheilagh issue- sorry for the cliche' - Anyway, about book 6- As Tears Go By----LOVED IT - FROM A TO Z !! Really strong start... Braydon and Becca meet in the first couple of pages- when Becca's friend dares her to go up to hunky stranger- Braydon. They have great chemistry and have one night & then don't see each other for a while. I loved the flow of the story. NO SLOW parts for me. Everything, IMO, is necessary to their story. Becca is newly divorced and the main custodial parent of an 8 year old autistic son. Details unfold in a very natural order. Becca's friends Nikki and Carla, are OTT in the wacky assertive dept, and the opposite of Becca's soft & sweet personality. Becca seems like a sad puppy sometimes. She's a great mom to Hunter. She's exhausted all the time. Wow, I can relate. When she does some bitchy moves, it seems like a natural part of her personality & I could understand- considering what she's going through. Becca's ex Kevin- is extremely immature and self-centered. Even though they've divorced, Kevin still has an influence over Becca- this is where I want to smack her then hug her. I loved the dialogue between Braydon & Becca- they really talk things out- especially the first 70% or so. The discussion about autism seemed more like an interview, but then Braydon genuinely was interested and asked A LOT of questions. There's some appearances from the McCullough family. Wow do I LOVE Maureen (Mom). She's so tender with her kids & also with Becca & Hunter. Maureen was my favorite supporting character. I also thought Hunter's character was very interesting & IMO was an interesting element to the love story. There is a BIG complication at 80% which could have been overly angsty, but the friends/siblings swoop in and pull a prank that lightened up what could have been a big wtf & head banger for me. Braydon is an awesome leading man- very giving and sweet. He's very strong with Becca, and helps her open her eyes & not be so rigid. I liked the grovel- needed and well done. The end seemed to have too much going on wrapping up tid bits for the siblings. The epilogue was PRECIOUS- wish it was a little longer & more into the future. I was right there - a fly on the wall & I just thought "awwwwwwwww" I'm giving 4.99 stars- since there was a tiny detail at the end (before the epilogue) that confused me regarding Sheilagh & other tiny details. LOVED THIS & WISH THAT I HAD NOT WAITED SO LONG TO READ IT. thanks to JLC for started me on this series & thanks to Ms Delilah for the recco & the reminder
I've been wanting to read this book for so long, and just haven't had the time. I read it in one sitting! Lydia Michael's never disappoints. I loved Braydon and Becca's story, but in my mind, Hunter stole the show. Another great McCullough Mountain story! I love how this family pulls together no matter the challenge, I can't wait for the final book. Hugs, Lydia, you did a great job depicting Hunter's autism realistically. (From the mother of an autistic child)
Loved it but just one little quibble that took me out of the story every time I came across it. The word is intentions not intensions. Not sure how a spell check wouldn't have caught that. But great story and loved seeing the McCulloughs again.
This was a bittersweet read for me. The last of the McCullough clan finally finding love. I had thought Braydon would be one of the first to find his soulmate. Even as a young man, he seemed to already have his idea of the perfect mate and life. What a treat to see him discover that perfection is boring. It’s life’s beautiful imperfections that make the journey so worthwhile. I already loved Braydon before his story. He was a good guy just starting to figure life out. I felt for him when his “girlfriend” ended up with his brother, but truthfully, he wasn’t in love with Sammy. Still, I think he harbored feelings that he wasn’t good enough just because his life wasn’t going in the direction he’d planned. Becca’s life wasn’t going as planned either. Recently divorced and caring for her autistic son, Hunter, she was physically and emotionally drained. Throughout her marriage, her husband, Kevin, had left everything to her to do. If Hunter’s own father couldn’t handle her life, why would someone else. Dating didn’t fit in her life. It was too chaotic. But being a McCullough, Braydon thrived in chaos. Braydon wanted a relationship with Becca and that meant a relationship with her son as well. I loved how he threw himself into learning all he could about autism. He worked to take some of the pressure off Becca. Simple things like walks, movies, just relaxing. He interacted with Hunter and put himself in Hunter’s world. Things Kevin had never done. When Becca continued to let Kevin manipulate her life, I was so aggravated with her. Like Maureen, I put Becca on my list! I had to really consider Becca’s life. Raising kids alone is stressful enough. Raising kids with special needs takes even more out of you. Autism wasn’t just something Becca coped with. It was her life. Hunter was her life. Living with something so powerful alters your existence. It certainly altered Becca’s. Hunter came first in all decisions. As he should. But Becca failed to consider her own happiness. A happy Becca was a better parent for Hunter. Braydon made her happy. While I really sided with Braydon and wanted to shake Becca for the last third of the book, this story really depicted being a parent and living with autism realistically. Kudos to Lydia Michaels for again writing with sensitivity and realism about a prevalent topic. In addition to page turning romances, she takes on important issues that don’t always get the attention they deserve. Not only does she write an entertaining story, she raises awareness and understanding on these issues along the way by giving those issues a personal side. All the characters in this series have their own strengths and weaknesses and their own battles to face. Through each of their stories, I love that Lydia Michaels gives me a new vantage point to consider. This entire series is so much more than romance. It’s life in all its perfectly imperfect glory.
Controlled Chaos is the sixth book in the McCullough Mountain series from Lydia Michaels, and it’s certainly worth the read for those who have been curious about Braydon since the start of the series. It is finally time to see his story, and it’s one that is sure to have you hooked.
I will be honest and say there were a few points where I felt this one was moving slowly, but it was not enough to lessen my enjoyment in what played out. There was plenty packed into this story, ensuring the reader is hit with emotions throughout. It deals with real world topics, ensuring you’re gripped by all that is playing out, eager to see happiness for all involved. It is certainly a story that will have you unable to put down, quickly forgetting this is a longer story than most of the others in the series. Even when moving slowly, it keeps you hooked and eager for more.
Without a doubt, Controlled Chaos is a must-read for fans of the series.
Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book for an honest review.
Can you fall in love with a character from a book?? Braydon will ruin all future male characters I think. Becca is a little annoying with her going backwards and forwards and I actually yelled out loud at her at one point! Loved catching up with the McCullough family!
Braydon's story gutted me at one point I was so angry with Lydia for making him go through all that. However, his deeds, failures, and love is what made the story.

Well this book finally comes full circle with the golden child Braydon. I wasn't sure who in the end would win Braydon's heart but in the end it couldn't have been any more perfect for him and this family.
Braydon has always looked for perfection so why not have the perfect partner. The problem is that all those girls are great on paper but not in real life. Since he can't find his elusive perfect he dabbles with relationships like with his boss, until a proposition of a one night stand no strings attached changes his life.
Becca, just finalized her divorced and her best friend forces her to live a little for herself for once and have a nice fling. After picking up this golden haired stranger and proposing one night, she has a moment of surrender and happiness but the moment it is done she has to return to her real life which is full of responsibility and no time for relationships.
As luck would have it, their paths cross again but Becca keeps trying to keep Braydon away but he is persistent, even after Braydon finds out that with Becca she comes up with a bigger package. Braydon has always been more about himself and does what is easier so committing to Becca and her son is not his normal pattern, but there is something different about Becca that he feels is worth the risk.
Becca is scared to have this relationship but Braydon makes her feel alive for the first time ever, unfortunately though she has her own baggage with a self defeating sense of failure for her lost marriage.
"Becca, I'm not afraid of commitment. Nor am I afraid of your circumstances. Stop expecting me to bolt at the first glimpse of chaos. I was raised in chaos."
As Braydon , Becca and Hunter try to make it work, Becca's past and insecurities are put the test while putting poor Braydon through the ringer. Even though I loved this book and the series, Becca's issues drove me the most crazy, since I don't have kids I couldn't relate to her struggles in the end. I got them I just didn't fully get the conflict or her waivering. I'm sure if I was a mother and a divorcee then I would have different feelings towards this but since I am neither it made it a bit more hard to relate to.
Thankfully Braydon won't settle for anything less then what he wants. So he builds his future and hopes that it works out for the best. In this book so many elements come to close beautifully and with the help of Becca's crazy friends, Hunter and the McCulloughs they make Becca and Braydon see what they truly need which is ... each other.
Great book! Amazing Series! I so recommend this series. ;)
I cannot rave enough about how much I love the McCullough men. Lydia Michaels has created a series I have grown quite fond of and knowing it is reaching its conclusion has me a bit sad.
Okay, truth? I'm totally devastated.
That being said, As Tears Go By is an emotional read dealing with heart breaking issues. Something Michaels has done throughout the McCullough Mountain series. She knows how to tug at your heartstrings and sucks you inside her world--a world where family loyalties and romance shine.
Braydon McCullough has had his heart broken once. His girlfriend, Sammy, ended up marrying his older brother, Colin. His search for finding that perfect someone has left him alone in the big city and wanting what others in his family has found. He wants a woman who will choose him above all others and, until then, he plays the field like any typical male would do.
Becca Stevens is just coming off a failed, ten-year marriage. The ink on the divorce papers is barely even dry. Her best friend and boss convinces her she needs to approach the sexy man sitting across the bar and have a one night stand.
Not looking for a relationship, she approaches Braydon McCullough. And they share one night of hot, sweaty sex that leaves both unprepared for what follows.
As Tears Go By is a tale of forgotten dreams, broken vows, and inner strength. One of the core themes I loved in this story revolves around Becca. She is a single mother struggling to take care of her son, who is autistic. Being a parent is soul-draining, emotionally harrowing at times, and the most thankless job on the planet. But having to raise a child with autism has a trillion different issues-ones that Becca has met, and surpassed, with each turn. Her entire world centers on her son and there is no time for a relationship in her life.
Braydon is amazed by Becca's strength, her love and devotion to her child, and the passion hidden deep inside a woman afraid to follow her dreams. He wants to give her everything. Be the man her husband failed to be. And more importantly, Braydon wants Becca to choose him over the man who originally claimed her as his wife. But fears and the past continue to plague Becca's heart and threaten to break the delicate connection the new lovers share.
Be prepared to experience an emotional journey as you read As Tears Go By. It has all the components of an addicting series: laughter, love, and a sizzling chemistry between the hero and heroine.
Favorite moments:
"Special like you like him a lot or special like he has an IEP?" "What would a kid be doing with a bomb?" "Not an IED, you ass. An IEP. An individualized Education Program."
"I'm sorry," Carla said, leaning close, but keeping her eyes on Kelly. "My vagina's in some sort of spasm right now. I couldn't quite make out your words."
"Smurf sex is when you fuck until you're blue in the face."
"Why are you trying so hard?" "Why are you waiting for us to fail?" His shoulders drew up tight. He shook his head. "I guess I thought trying was what people did when they cared. I've never experienced so much opposition in my life."
Another beautiful tale from McCullough Mountain. Lydia Michaels has an uncanny ability to make you believe that a happily ever after is waiting for everyone, regardless of their circumstances. Her characters are real as are their struggles, which, while not always insurmountable, are tempered and made just a bit easier because of love...just like real life.
Such is the tale of Braydon and Becca in As Tears Go By. Autism is not usually the stuff of romances, but as usual, Lydia handles the stark, harsh realities of the disorder and those living through it with grace and dignity. Couple that with the beautifully woven love story between Braydon and Becca and you have the perfect mix for a completely relatable contemporary romance.
This, like the other McCullough Mountain novels, is a stand alone, but I encourage you, if you have not read the first five, to do so. The McCullough clan are a fun, lovable group and the more you get to know them, the more you will fall in love with each and every member of the family.
OK, not great. I had to think about how to rate this book. I liked the first half, 2 stars and the last 30% or so 4 stars, so I averaged to 3 stars. This book was not romantic, it featured the ex-husband and son as dominant characters in the story, more so than the hero. I found that sad because although the subject matter was serious, I think the hero was somewhat shortchanged by the heroine's inability to separate her past from her future. She was tired and sad and I could not see this as a romantic book, and it started with what seems to be a tried and tested romance trope now, the one night stand between strangers, yukkk. I thought that this was going to be erotica because of the beginning but it turned into a family drama, so once again not romantic at all. A sweet story towards the end when the heroine had had enough and then finally made a decision, which we all knew was coming, it was just a matter of when. All in all, a passable read, but only vaguely romantic.
*sniffle* My favorite family. It is sad to see the end of the series but such a great story. One of the reasons I love this series so much is because it is so real. Real life issues, good and bad. This book touches the lives of children with Autism. Even if you don't know anything about it, you will learn what some parents go through. Then throw in the best book family, The McCulloughs. Thank you for giving me a mountain full of big hearted, funny, beautiful Irishmen. I feel at home on McCullough Mountain and will always go back to visit.
This story, on so many levels, touched me. As a single mother of an autistic child, I could relate with Becca as she went through so many of the same struggles I have gone through. The "I can never die..." sentiment is one that I share and one of my greatest fears that there will be no one to take care and watch after my son when I am no longer here. I cried, I laughed, and at times had to step away as what was written on the pages had hit close to home. This is an incredible story....and maybe one day, I'll find my own Braydon.
Update: Listened to the audiobook of this and fell deeper in love with the series! I love this family and adore the way these men love their women. I never expected to fall so far with this author and series.
Becca is a wonderful mom and very devoted to her family. I was very disappointed in how she treated Braydon but loved the end.
This series is my first taste of Lydia Michaels and I'm impressed!! I've loved every couple in this series.
I absolutely loved Controlled Chaos by Lydia Michaels; it is an incredible love at first sight love story. It is the sixth book in her McCullough Mountain series, and I think it is my favorite book in the series. Lydia Michaels has once again proven that she is an amazing storyteller. I could not put Controlled Chaos down and I loved every moment on every page. Who does not love hot sexy men, strong females, loving big Irish families and friends, who always support one another? I really enjoy how the book is told from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. My favorite part of the book is how Lydia Michaels incorporates the title of the book and the picture on the cover into the love story. It is filled with all those things that we have come to love and expect in a love story, Lydia Michaels did not disappoint, especially with the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner. Controlled Chaos is a love story filled with heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. I love the lighter moments where I find myself smiling and laughing out loud. My favorite moments are the ones that pull at my heartstrings that cause me to sigh, as I read the heartbreaking moments. Controlled Chaos is filled with such moments, and with so much emotion. Controlled Chaos is the story of Braydon McCullough, architect, and Rebecca “Becca” Stevens, single mother of Hunter, who is on the autism spectrum. Becca and Braydon meet in a local bar when her friends Nikki and Carla encourage her to have a one-night stand with a complete stranger to celebrate her divorce from her husband of ten years, Kevin. Becca propositions Braydon with a one-night stand with no strings attached. They go to Braydon’s apartment and things heat up quickly and then Becca sneaks out thinking she will never see him again. The following day the meet again when Braydon is the architect on a project that Becca is working on. As Becca and Braydon spend time together, things quickly change between them. Despite Becca’s reservations because of Hunter, Braydon and Becca become romantically involved. As things change between them, I love that they both admit their true feelings for one another. I love all the research that Braydon does regarding autism to help him better understand Becca’s and Hunter’s lives. I love the chemistry between Becca and Braydon. Conversation between Becca and Braydon flows so easily, I love that both Becca and Braydon share secrets with one another that they have not shared with anyone before, especially the secrets that Becca shares about her ex-husband and life with Hunter and Braydon’s insecurity about never being good enough. I love all the insight that Lydia Michaels shares about life with a child on the autism spectrum. I love all the unexpected plot twists changes things between them and how her friends and the McCulloughs work together to reunite them. I loved that Controlled Chaos is a more than just a romance, there are dilemmas that both Becca and Braydon are facing that need resolved. I love how the storylines get so beautifully resolved. I love how with a simple statement from Hunter, Becca is willing to have a life with Braydon. My favorite part is the house that Braydon built for Becca and Hunter and the big announcement that Luke made following Becca’s tour of the house that Braydon built and his proposal to her in front of his family. I love the heart-to-heart conversations that happen in the Controlled Chaos, they are some of my favorite parts. Controlled Chaos is filled with poignant and bittersweet moments as well as plot twists that I have come to love and expect in a Lydia Michaels love story. I love the characters and the family dynamic in Controlled Chaos, the characters feel like family and friends. I enjoyed all the interactions between the McCullough siblings especially their teasing that made me laugh. I loved all the characters in Controlled Chaos and am looking forward to reading the other books in the series. Who does not love family and friends that always have each other’s backs? I thoroughly enjoyed Controlled Chaos, who does not love a love at first sight love story. Highly recommend this incredible love story and am so looking forward to reading the other books in the series.
A timid heroine who has wasted years of her life with a guy who didn't appreciate her. And a hero who is determined to find her and make her a part of his life after one night.
So far so good. Didn't like, though, that she didn't get out of a relationship that didn't make her happy... Why does she put up with a guy who doesn't satisfy her? And don't tell me it's because she is used to that life etc. cause that's just bull. I hate heroines whom it takes ages to decelop a backbone... But that's not even the worst thing about her. She also put up with a husband who doesn't respect his own kid, who is no help whatsoever in challenging situations... Why? Why would she be fine with that, why would she try to teach a grown up that she should be in love with that their son is not broken?? Why?
So yeah our heroine wasn't my favorite female MC. She had to battle her own insecurities and I would have loved for her to be more in charge towards the ending when she finally got that the hero is a grand fella.
Let's also talk about gender roles. It is once mentioned that boys are messy. Ahm yeah not all of them and girls can be messy too!!! Also, I could have done without the derogatory comments about Miranda. So Becca is quiet but capable and Miranda a vixen who speaks her mind. And our hero realizes he is more fond of the Becca cause she is more feminine. Ahm yeah thanks for that! Sure, in a way, the impact of what he said to and thought about Miranda is a bit weakened later on when he ; yet, that just didn't placate me 100%.
Why does this upset me so much??? Simple. Cause there are so many sensitive topics in this one and some of them are dealt with wonderfully. Autism? The way Becca talks about it is so authentic, the struggles she has to go through in a day to day basis are heartbreaking and yet also heartwarming. Plus, our hero's family is super diverse and I love his attitude ... Yet there were also instances in which I came across clichés and traditional role models ... It's just... the McCullough family is described as non judgmental and Oh so accepting. But the at thanksgiving the women are "clucking" in the kitchen while the men are watching the game... Again, really??
Yeah, but let me sum this all up quickly. Plot? Pretty amazing. If it weren't for all the insecurities our two MCs had, there would still be a great plot. I was a bit annoyed in the beginning cause there were so many intimate scenes and that was a bit boring but that changes then and I was very glad. Towards the ending, I had to cry. Like, really, I was weeping. That was awesome.
Writing style? Good. The whole Irish thing? Well, instead of a lot of lassie (which is pretty Scottish and def. not often used in Ireland) and lad (which used to be common but is now a fella) and wee once (which, again, is Scottish or Northern Irish) there wasn't much Irishness in there ;-) Oh, yeah, the surname, sorry. That as well. But other than that, don't expect to find characters in there who actually talk like people from Ireland.
MCs? They definitely had their flaws, both of them, but in a way, I still liked them.
I have been so ready to ready Brayden's story and here it is . In installment 6 of the McCullough saga we find Brayden getting propositioned for a one night stand by Becca a recently divorced woman . He finds her intriguing and oh so cute so he takes her up on her offer. But little does he know that she is going to run away with his heart and make him want more . Will he get his girl and will they survive what everything comes with falling in love truly means . Becca is a strong woman who is deeply loving and has her hands full with her ex husband and her autistic son . She is strong but oh so weak at the same time . You can sympathize with her through out the book and you want to hug her tight when she needs it . She is also just tired of being not happy and the only one that really cares for her son . She works hard and really needs some fun in her life . Brayden well is Brayden , he is kind of cocky and knows what he wants . He is also a really good guy that would do anything for those he loves . I think the character that actually stole my heart was Hunter , Becca's son. Even though he was autistic he had his own way of making Becca smile . He was sweet and loving when they were all together . Brayden just melted my heart when he researched all about Hunter to understand more and to help Becca out . Most men would of run the other way but Brayden stepped up and became the man that Becca needed and wanted The funniest characters were Carla and Nikki . Carla fawning all over Kelly at the bar was so funny . Then the scene where they lock Brayden and Becca in a hotel room is a hoot . This was a great way to end the McCullough story with the one we all thought wouldn't settle down . The clan was there in the end and all rallied around and everyone has made amends for past mistakes and Sheilagh and Luke had a bit in this installment at the end . They all get their happily ever afters too . I must commend Lydia on writing this series , you made me laugh, cry and want to throw my kindle a few times . I have come to love the characters and all their quirks and silliness . You showed us what a a big family could be like and how everyone pulls together when the chips are down . So if you want a great series that will take you to a place that will break your heart and at the same time make you giggle this is the series for you .
To quote Braydon McCullough, "I was bred from a clan of Irish psychos." That is an apt assessment, in my opinion, because the whole McCullough clan is completely crazy - the good kind of crazy, but crazy just the same. They're loud, they have no filter, they're always all up in each other's business, and they love with all their hearts. I've fallen in love with this "clan of Irish psychos," and I'm always excited to visit them. Controlled Chaos is Braydon's turn at love, and if anyone deserves to get their turn, it's Bray. I loved Braydon and Becca together from their very first meeting, and the more I listened, the more I fell in love with Braydon. In true McCullough fashion, he only knows one way to love, and that's full steam ahead. But Becca comes as a package deal, and she's not sure if Bray's up for the task. Of course, she's gonna see first-hand just how strong that McCullough stubborn streak can be. I'll stop there before I spoil the story. Just be prepared for some big feels and tugging of your heartstrings with this one. Salenah de Kai gives voice to these characters, and she gives a terrific performance. She captures the emotion of the story perfectly, as well as the pacing and tone. Bray and Becca have become my favorite couple in this series. There are several reasons for that, and again, explaining some of that would lead to spoilers. I'll just sum it up by saying Controlled Chaos is absolutely perfectly titled. It's packed full of all the feels, and as always, Lydia Michaels tempers the emotion with some well-timed wit and even some laugh-out-loud humor. If you haven't met this crazy family, you are totally missing out. Each book can be read as a standalone, but I would still recommend starting at the beginning and meeting each couple in turn. You won't regret it.
This is book six in The McCullough Mountain series and it is Braydon and Becca's story. Becca is a single mom to Hunter who has autism so she is always busy and gives all of her time to her son who is the most important person in her life so when her divorce is final we friend's decide to take her out to celebrate and then challenged her to have a one night stand and that is where Braydon comes into the picture. Braydon is still looking for his perfect woman so when he had a proposition from Becca he decided to take a chance and spend the night with her only for him to wake up and find out that she had disappeared and with the attraction and chemistry between them he is determined to find her and see where it would lead but things don't always go as planned and Braydon and Becca will have to go through so much of they ever want to have the chance of a future together. Wow this book takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions and I loved how Braydon embraced Hunter's condition and learnt everything that he could do that he could be there and support Becca and also relieve her of some of the pressure that she was under and even though things were not plain sailing and they had many ups and downs Braydon was a absolute star and determined to prove that he was in this for the long run and Becca could depend on him and then throw in The McCullough Clan and you have a perfect story. This Book has some difficult subjects that was written with so much care and compassion and even though I have loved every single book in this series I have to say that this one is definitely my favourite and I can't wait to read more book's in this amazing series.
Controlled Chaos by Lydia Michaels. See picture 2 for the description of the book.
Thank you so much NetGalley and Valentine PR & Literary Management for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I wanna start off with saying wow Lydia Michaels has done it again.
This one is the 6th book in the McCullough Mountain series and it is really good. It shares first place with the 4th one, British Professor, one being my favourite book in this series.
As her other books even this one highlight something important. This book contains awareness of autism and in my experience with autism I feel like Michaels has done a good job with the highlighting.
Controlled Chaos doesn't only contains something important it also contains some spicy scenes just like the other books and a bit more.
The writing was to my liking but if you aren't a fan of raw language and a bit of dominance then this might not be for you.
When it comes to the characters I really liked Braydon McCullough and was happy to finally get to know him since I was curious about him while reading the first book, Almost Priest. The female character Becca was also to my liking especially when reading how she take care of her son who is on the Spectrum and her journey during the read.
I recommend this to the readers who have read the first 7 books and if the description makes you curious of the book I really recommend you to read the others first especially Almost Priest to get the whole picture first.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5 stars.
Now I am looking forward to read the last two books in this series.
Controlled Chaos is the sixth book in the McCullough Mountain series. This is the final siblings story. If you've read the other books you've likely fallen in love with the seven siblings, each unique in their own way. Braydon McCullough had a special place, he's the only brother to truly branch out from the family and live in the big city. But the city isn't where he wants to end up, it's lonely with only his work to keep him busy. When he's propositioned for a night with no strings from a beautiful woman he's certainly willing. That one night isn't going to be enough, as fate would have it he'll get a second chance. Becca Stevens is holding on by a thread, her life is chaotic and she's tired. When her best friend pushes her to step out from behind her past and embrace life she decides to jump. Yet when Brayden pushes for more she's resistance and puts the breaks on. There is so much he doesn't understand and she's trained herself to be wary of anyone offering her more. But maybe it's time for her to truly look at what's best for her and makes her happy while dealing with her messy life. Maybe that happiness can come from a man who was only supposed to be a one night stand.
This book deal so well with the life of someone that is completly consumed by a situation beyond their control. The bond and the love for a child and the impact strong partnership can have on freaking with daily complications.
Controlled Chaos McCullough Mountain, Book 6 By: Lydia Michaels Narrated by: Salenah de Kai
I am obsessed with this series. Love always coming back to McCullough Mountain to hang out with the family! This story is amazing for so many reasons. Becca and Braydon have a one night stand. The best time of their lives, but Becca is not looking for anything more than celebrating her divorce. When Braydon ends up at work though, all bets are off. He pursues her, but she does her best to discourage his advances. When he meets her son, he begins to understand her reluctance, but it is not a deterrent. In true McCullough family fashion, Braydon is all in, and does what he has to, to not only have an understanding of autism, but to win her heart. But will it be enough? Secrets kept, and her ex could be the end. Will they figure out they are meant to be or will it be the end? I love Becca. Yes, at times she can be frustrating, but she is a mom, and will do anything for her son. Michaels portrayal of Hunter, and his needs. And Braydon is swoony, impossible not to fall for, but what McCullough isn't? This is a fabulous listen, romantic, compassionate and loving.
Salenah De Kai is fantastic telling this story. She gives voice to all the characters, adds a bit of Irish brogue to some and makes the listen fly by. Her ability to go from the child of Hunter to Becca to Braydon is performed with ease and make the listen easy to follow and enjoy.
This came under the heading "could not put down" the only way I put this down was when I literally couldn't keep my eyes open. This is Braydons and Beccas story, or to be absolutely honest it"s Braydon, Becca AND Hunters story. Braydon and Becca's first meeting was one of chance and opportunity, a one night stand, neither expected the sparks to fly the way they did. Afterwards, Becca makes a run for it whilst Braydon is in the bathroom. What they didn't know is that a few days later, by complete coincidence, they would be working together. Braydon, knows Becca has just gone through a divorce, but has no idea of what Beccas life is like, or that she has an autistic son, Hunter.
I have to say that I thought Lydia captured Hunter's autism wonderfully, in terms of how Hunter behaves and reacts to things. Becca had me in tears with the compassion and love that she had for Hunter, and the lengths she would go to in order to calm him when in his mind thingfs were out of control. Her Ex on the other hand had me growling, and honestly I really don't understand why Becca kept him in Hunters life !!!
It broke my heart that Braydon went to lengths he did once he knew about Hunter for it all to go wrong, courtesy of Becca's ex. But hats off to Braydons family for how they handled it, that was epic. A real emotional rollercoaster ride.
She propositioned him to celebrate her divorce. Then she ran.
Becca Stevens had a terrible marriage. That was hard enough. What made it worse was her ex had affairs in their marriage bed. And he seemed to enjoy other women more than his wife. Top it off that she did everything at home. With the divorce, nothing changed except now she was classified as a single parent. Even with a few days to herself, Becca refused to make time for a relationship. She was devoted to her son, Hunter, who was on the autism spectrum. Her life revolved around schedules and being the best mum possible. Unfortunately, this included denying herself the happiness she deserved. Along with the man she came to depend on and love.
He never believed anyone would put him first.
Before Becca, it was the Braydon McCullough show. He simply put himself first, middle and last. It was his world, and everything revolved around Braydon. Then he met Becca. Nothing would ever be the same for him. But could Braydon change his outlook?
An exciting look into the world of autism is both intriguing and sad. Kudos to Lydia Michaels for taking on this subject with tact and sensitivity.

Controlled Chaos is the 6th book in the McCullough Mountain series, but can be read as a standalone. I love this series. The audiobook was a chefs kiss! Salenah De Kai did a good job at transitioning through the characters and was easy to listen to. It’s a Small town, family saga, one night stand, single mom, and a second chance romance that always hooks me. I love the family dynamics and banter between Becca and Brayden. He always wanted a family, to be married and she was scared of commitment due to a recent divorce. After a one night stand, she panicked, ran out and was scared. Then fate threw them back together again in a workplace romance. The chemistry, push and pull were undeniable. The story is sassy, witty, full of banter. Brayden was such a gentleman, so swoonworthy. As their story progressed we See the rollercoaster ride they go on. Insecurities, ex husbands, doubts, deceptions and the want to be chosen first in someone’s life . Having Hunter and him being autistic made her life a little more complex than most people. He does what ever it takes to show Becca that’s she’s not alone. He wants to learn everything about her, and her son, what’s important to her, and give her all the love and support that she needs. Loved seeing Brayden get his happy ending.
I voluntarily reviewed a complementary copy of this audiobook
Braydon didn't give us much hope as to his boyfriend skills in the very first story. Sure, he was young and still in college, but his lack of interest in Sammy was the first clue that they wouldn't work. Now, years later, Bray has graduated college, is now working and living in Pittsburgh, he has yet to have another serious girlfriend and just prefers the no strings attached arrangements. Becca is fresh off her divorce, but as a mother of a child with autism she doesn't get a lot of time to herself. Even on the weekends when her ex has her son, her weekends are spent catching up. So, when she ends up doing something completely out of the norm, like hitting on and going home with Braydon, when its all said and done she freaks and hightails it out of there. Imagine her surprise on Monday morning when Braydon walks in for a meeting. Is this the fates telling her that it's time to move on, or is this just a horrible coincidence.
This was such a great story! The way the author expressed all the lows and highs that come with having a special needs child. Not gonna lie, at one point I wanted to throat punch Becca! We get loads of drama, and some hot naughty bits. I give this 5 stars.
Braydon meets Becca one night at a bar after Becca had been pushed by her friend Nikki to go over and meet him. Nikki was now a single mother after the finalization of her divorce. Being a mother of an autistic child, she felt like she had been doing everything for years without her husband's help. Now meeting Braydon she wanted just a one-night stand and he agreed to that as well. Both felt something more but she was sticking by what she said. When they meet later at a business meeting this gives Braydon the opening for him, not what Becca wants but he puts himself into her and Hunter’s life which the ex-husband does not care for. This book has many layers to it Becca is scared to move forward and wants to do what is best for her son, and her ex still trying to control her life after seeing her happy. You wonder at times if Braydon is pushing too hard, yet he tells he things and helps Hunter improve which only confuses her. This is really a good story very emotional at times. The author also uses what parents go through with children with special needs having to do an IEP and other meetings which for me added to the story. You still get some of the characters from the other books and overall a very good book. I received this book from Netgalley.com
