Shampoo

Rate this book
Pinky. She walked off the map, set it alight, and threw the ashes over herself in some self-destructive ritual.
She'll have to shampoo that ash out somehow.
Lucky she never has to pay for shampoo.
She's survived A LOT...but will she survive love again, all those pink drinks she consumes, and working for a haircare company that has a drag queen for a mascot and two bosses selling shampoo based on sin?
Then there's Ever and Matt, two guys determined to win her heart...or destroy her further?
There'll be plenty of pink drinks (pink everything), Holden Commodores, and True Love??, as Pinky navigates through life once again, madly trying to find a new path to walk on.
Hers.
A novel about taking your second chance at life and running with it with as much humour and spewing madly (on spumante) as one can.
Especially in her darkest hours...those times when she feels she can never love again...or worse, BE loved again...she will turn to the (pink) light and humour to see her through.
That, and pink drinks, and driving like a hoon.
And maybe a love affair or two.
Pink. It's the new EVERYTHING.

5 of 5 Unique ⭐️

I have to admit, this is by far the most unconventional book I have ever had my hands or eyes on.

Auto-biographical in nature and written in diary format, SHAMPOO describes a period in the life of Karina that is fraught with angst. That… and lots of wild partying. Desperate to connect somewere, anywhere, our heroine stumbles her way through her young twenties trying to find some solid ground, questioning herself every step of the way. Eager to find a path to a future, she seems unable to shed the truckload of issues she drags along on her way. Baggage that finds its way into a number of relationships - some explosive, some romantic and some not so much - and the fear of making mistakes threatens to keep her spinning in circles.

Both the non-fictional nature and the unusual format of the book are things that might set readers aback at first, but once they get used to it, they will realize this is a case where life is better than fiction. Richer, more dramatic, certainly more hilarious and the unique writing style and layout adds to the illusion we are reading the author's diary. It allows us to laugh, cheer and cry with her... Like I did.

Totally unique.... completely daring (Matt is right) and brave and therefore the author should be prepared for a large variety of responses to spilling her heart on paper. This is a book that calls for extreme reactions...... and I mean by that is that SHAMPOO will make people FEEL....and in my books that is a good thing.

Any editor who might have taken a look at this book, would likely have been inclined to try and force it into some kind of recognized structure. Tweak the wording, correct the phrasing - but more than with any other story, this one needed to be told in the style, the words and the voice of Karina Almeroth. So when you read and find things not perfect according to some rules within the English written language, open your mind and let Karina's voice do the speaking. You'll see that it fits perfectly.

Not everyone will agree with me. Be prepared. As a reviewer the story was perfectly unique, and the writing fit. There are no rules. Just think Picasso and Dahli..... ;)

I wrote this book from the bottom of my heart. I poured my whole being into this. I hope it makes you laugh, I hope it makes you cry, I hope it picks somebody up in their darkest hour. I hope somebody relates. I wish I wasn't drunk writing my first review of my own book. Cheers!!

It is hard to know where to start with this review because it is so different to anything else I have read, and it is difficult to explain to someone who has not read it.

The book is written in a diary style, and is full of voyeuristic thrill from the life of Karina. It seems to be at least partly fictionalised account of her life. Her dealings with friends, work colleagues and family are textured like real life (both rough and smooth). It just feels so honest throughout, which sticks out because it is such a rare thing these days.

The male leads in Karina’s life though are the ones that reel you in. Just like her, you will be totally angry with the douche bags at their worst, but seeing glimpses of what she is holding out for at their best. Karina draws the addictiveness and futility of part terrible, part fantastic relationships/romance richly and clearly.

It seems from some other reviews that sometimes the diary style of the book makes it tough going for some. I did find that initially as I was not used to it; but the content and the strength of Karina’s voice quickly shone through. What a story... Just read it!

I have to say that I was truly excited about this book. I had picked it up as part of the TNEE author list. I couldn't finish it. I felt like I was force reading the whole time that I was reading this book. I normal give a book around 110 pages to see if it is good and normally i always sick with a book. This one I got to almost 200 because I kept telling my self it was going to turn around. There was just a lot, and I had a feeling like it wasn't going anywhere or leading to anything. Maybe when I am in a different mind set I will try to re-read this book. For now it needs to be shelved.

This is the first time I have read from this author and it won't be the last either. It's written almost like a diary but I enjoyed reading it this way as I have haven't read a book like this before.

If your after a book that will make you laugh, make you cry, makes you feel good about yourself and sends you on a rollercoaster this is the book for you.

Pinky is a girl we can all relate to.

Can't wait to read book 2
