I love vampires and food, so this was a perfect mix of the two. I’m a little sad it’s so short.

Thank you Yen Press and Edelweiss for the arc copy.

First of all, the cover is stunning and very eye-catching! Yoru is such a stunner in inner and this over illustration :)

My Beloved Supper is a supernational slice of life one-shot manga, that follows Yoru Hioka - a vampire, who's a biiiig yearner for human food. He can only try to taste it after he's had some human blood. As he does not like to hurt people due to his nature, his close ''partnership'' with Chief Detective Kagami Saneatsu, brings him opportunities to hunt for the worst of humanity specimens... criminals.

Overall, I would say it was a cozy read. I enjoyed it but was not attached to it. Art was pretty and distinct, but the plot... where did the police suspicion disappeared? What is Yoru's background? There are many details that were left up in the air, so I don't understand why this was done as a one-shot. It could easily been at least 2 volumes. The potential was here, the dealings with criminals was good but it sort of fell flat for me. I haven't read ''foody stories manga'' before, so I'm not sure if the character vs plot ratio is sensible here.

Anyways, if you like short stories about vampires, food and occasional bloody scenes, this is for you.

This was surprisingly sweet for a vampire manga. So sweet, in fact, that it bordered on boring. While the MC did prey on villain-types (ie. drug dealers, criminals, s3x traffickers), it was only a small portion of the story. The majority of it is about his love for human food and the jealousy he feels for people who can eat it. So after he gorges himself on blood, he tests how much human food he can eat.

Very interesting concept, but I think it’s missing something to make me want to continue.

Thank you to the publisher and Edelweiss for supplying a gifted eARC.

I was under the impression that this was going to have a romance, or at least BL undertones, but the guy at the boarding house barely even interacted with Yoru...I guess there just wasn't space for that. I'm wavering between 3 and 4 stars because this was a really interesting (and of course beautifully drawn) story that felt like it had a lot of gaps that could've been fleshed out in more satisfying ways.

Yoru is a vampire who, at the close of this story, has lived at the same boarding house for 70 years. The love story is really between him and food...although there are a few nods towards his attachment to the boarding house owner, a sweet older lady who's very happy whenever Yoru (rarely) eats the food she provides for her tenants.

One of the plot holes was the reveal that since she's known this ageless guy for 7 decades, she has to know he's a vampire, but she never acts like she does, even when there's a slasher on the loose threatening the other guys in the house. And she doesn't seem to have made a connection between Yoru's nighttime habits and his ability to eat her meals.

In this world, vampires can't ingest regular human food unless they've had a full meal of blood first, which kicks off their digestive system. Since Yoru doesn't particularly like killing people - he doesn't seem to be able to drink blood without draining the person dry - he often goes months between meals, blood or otherwise.

He ends up forming a partnership with a police detective whom I assume (based on a later scene) must've been a boarding house resident at one point, which is how he'd figured out Yoru's supernatural abilities. He sends Yoru tips on criminals whom they don't have quite enough solid evidence to arrest, and when Yoru is desperate for blood or longing for the ability to eat a human meal, he takes care of the criminals.

There's a whole subplot about other detectives being suspicious about these disappearing criminals, but that goes nowhere. This probably should've been an actual series instead of a one-shot.

Still, I did enjoy it. I thought it was an interesting take on the vampire genre, as well as a fun twist on the "food manga" genre. Plus you can't fault Ozaki's art. It's stunning.

Wow, how unexpected this was!

I had my expectations for what this was going to be like and it defied all of them. A manga that juxtaposes violence and blood with the fragrant warmth of home cooked meals... it was so vivid that it was almost sickening (I mean that as a very high compliment -- I felt this story in my stomach, for sure).

But then, aside from this interesting contrast it poses in regards to the difference between human and vampire "meals", this story has a pretty good twist to it in terms of Yoru's relationship to his boarding housemates. Strangely, it almost becomes a found family sort of vibe. I thought the writing was very subtle and I liked the way the story left it up to me to figure out, which is always a plus in my book. In general, I felt this was a really lovely take on the vampire genre.

Such a good story for me 👌🏼.

Not to mention the MMC is both cute and scary whenever he want to be. I really like the idea how he's targeting all the corrupt guys out there tbh. I'd also like to mention how I would love to read a backstory between the MMC and the landlady as well as the detective.

Idk if this will have another volume but if there will be, I would read it 🫶🏼.

Solid 3.5 for me.

I found the concept of a vampire who wants to eat human food pretty original and I enjoyed the less cliched portrayal of vampires. I did feel like I need more information on those he lived with? They obviously know who he is but how and if they know what he is, how aren't they wary?

Thanks to the publisher and Edelweiss for the DRC~

A quiet tale where a vampire longs more for supper than for blood, and love tastes bittersweet.

My Beloved Supper follows Yoru Hioka, a vampire with an unusual obsession: human food. Unlike traditional vampires, Yoru finds comfort and joy in eating meals rather than hunting humans. Though he can’t escape his need for blood, he limits himself to criminals, never innocents, which gives his story a unique moral twist. What unfolds is a quietly thoughtful tale blending sweetness, humour, and melancholy, with themes of love and loss at its core.

This was a really sweet and refreshing take on the vampire story. Yoru Hioka doesn’t feel like the dark, brooding archetype we usually see. Instead, he lives a fairly normal life—if not for his fangs and occasional need for blood, he could easily pass as human. His love for food gave him such a charming dimension, and I liked that if it were up to him, he would stick to meals over blood every time.

The humour is light but clever in parts. These moments added some levity without pulling away from the darker elements of the story. The illustrations are lovely, with lots of pencil line work that makes the art feel textured and distinct from glossier manga styles. It reminded me a little of Death Note in tone at the beginning—there’s a similar sense of moral ambiguity and atmosphere, though it develops into something softer as the story continues.

The ending leans bittersweet, drawing out themes of love and loss in a way that lingers. It gave the story emotional depth, even if the middle sections didn’t always hold me as strongly.

Overall, My Beloved Supper is a manga with good writing, distinct illustrations, and a memorable twist on the vampire myth. I enjoyed it, but it didn’t completely pull me in from start to finish. For me, this was a solid 3-star read—worth checking out if you’re after a vampire story that’s more tender than terrifying.

I read this long before the official English release and honestly was shocked that it got an official release! Pleasantly surprised though! I love this one-shot!

"My Beloved Supper" follows Yoru, a vampire whom must drink blood in order to eat regular food as the blood seems to awaken his digestive system. Thus he can go months on end with no actual food, and in his journal will you see his years of trying to make sense of his Vampiric traits, to which, an interesting take for sure.

Now I have to say that this is a one-shot manga, any lore or more background on the characters is small, and one can say you got to look deeper. For instance we see a woman in Yoru's flashback being his "teacher" according to him and that apparently she knew his mother, along with seeming to know that their Vampiric can can evolve enough to conquer the sun. This says a lot with very little, we sadly don't know where this woman is now, only that Yoru isn't with her for whatever reason.
He's been working with a Japanese cop for a while as well and has been with the boarding house matriarch for at least 7 decades. To which, for any "romance" in the manga is towards her in some sense as he was to confess to her his feelings near the end - seemingly. We don't get a full on confirmation if this was truly romantic or some other form of affection. Also, it seems the matriarch knows of Yoru being a vampire yet has never made mention of it.

Honestly, I love how much Yoru loves food and this is a sort of slice-of-life! I do wish it was longer, even a short manga series. The world is rich with potential, yet, it is lovely as is as well.

Yoru Hioka is a thirty-something office worker, handsome and mysterious. He lives in a boarding house with young college students, looked after by Sonoe, an old lady who owns the place and cooks hearty meals for the boarders. Yoru fantasises about the food and even keeps a book about everything he eats.

Unfortunately for him, Yoru doesn't get to eat the meals often. In truth, he's an ancient vampire and human food makes him throw up. But he's found a way to digest and enjoy it. Right after he has fed on human blood, he can eat food too.

Finding victims to drain and kill would be difficult, but he has a deal with a corrupt cop who points him at criminals the police wouldn't otherwise be able to catch. The chapters consist of his kills, followed by different meals. He has some compunctions about the kills, but he needs blood anyway, and he really wants to eat Sonoe-san's dinners.

We learn only a little about Yoru in the first volume, but he's not entirely secretive. Turns out, there are people other than the corrupt cop who know what he is. It's a wistful story of love and lost chances. A good story, but don't read it hungry. Art was good. I'd read more.

I received a free copy from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

Yoru, kiedy chce zjeść coś ludzkiego, najpierw musi popić. Krwi.

Bo gdzie tutaj kara? Ostateczna, jasne, ale... niech cierpi, skoro zadawał ból.

Yoru… nie lubię go. Otacza się aurą niedostępnego emo-wampira, wyższego ponad resztę świata, z wyraźnym fetyszem jedzenia. Dlaczego fetyszem?

I personally enjoyed this! It’s a one shot so don’t expect another volume lol, also another thing tons of ppl thought this was a romance, in no way did it ever said it was, but it look implied in the beginning when all it was, was mere curiosity. I think if you want something simple and enjoyable with decent plot this is def it, no high expectations like everyone apparently goes in. A vampire yearning for human food rather blood is very on point in that fact that Yoru misses eating ‘extravagant’ meals, and the only way he can do so is by finding his loophole, having blood first then actual food, but only targeting criminals. Spoilers! In the end it shows how they knew what he was and everyone wondered why they weren’t wary of him, he only went after criminals and they knew that after the fact lol.

Ohhhh, I really enjoyed this one. A very handsome and sexy vampire figures out that as long as he had blood he can eat the meals the humans so cherish (and he so longs for). Throughout the volume we see him kill baddies (only baddies) and then eat his fill of human food (and then write notes in his diary). Generally made by the woman running the boarding house (who he apparently knows given the design she has + the last chapter). I had so much fun and our MC is just delightful. I love how giddy he gets when he gets to eat something non-blood. It was quite wholesome between the random acts of nomnom blood. I would love more, but given everything I think this one is a complete one-shot volume.

This has a little romance in it and it is hetro. It was actually pretty sweet.

But this is a vampire that just has always been a foodie and he would prefer eating human food over drinking blood and he does not really enjoy drinking blood. He makes sure that when he drinks blood he rushes to eat food that is cooked by the woman that runs his boarding house. I liked the art a lot too.

I think it just had too many plots in it to fully develop it. Why he prefers to only eat every few months and the romance was sweet but all felt underdeveloped. Even as an eating manga, I kind of wished it leaned in a little more where maybe he dreams of his favorite meals cooked by her. But I would read more by this author for sure.

Kaho Ozaki's art is so beautiful!

Since I've read something else by this author I thought it was going to be a BL, but it was just about a vampire killing criminals so he can eat human food since he can only get the taste for it after drinking blood. I enjoyed it, but it did feel a bit incomplete. Like Yoru has more backstory to explore. Also, there was a bit that almost seemed like the cop was going to be under suspicion for all these cases being closed because the suspects are dead, but that went nowhere. I feel like a lot could've been done with this, but what we got was still nice.

Thank you to Yen Press for the Digital review Copy.

Charming and Dark, this is a very niche demographic, but it definitely found its audience, and I think would do NUMBERS with the soft goth crowd. Lovely.

My only criticism was that it felt like there was a chapter or two missing just to fill in a few of the bigger story gaps, and I think with stand alones there is absolutely no reason why they can't be just a touch longer to give them a little more time to build, but I genuinely loved it and that was my only thought.

This one was not exactly what I thought it would be, but I really enjoyed it! Our vampire MC loves food, but can't eat without being full of blood first, so he obviously just needs to clean up the neighborhood to ensure he can have his fill. I was a little confused about which people know he's a vampire and how much the general public believes them to be real as well as the depth of his relationships to the other boarders. It was a cute read and definitely made me hungry along the way!

This was a cool manga to read, but, I’m confused on why it was only one volume. It seems like just when things were getting more intriguing, it got wrapped up nicely then it just ends. I feel like I was left with wanting more, although that is amusing considering this short story is about a hunger for delicious food.
Also, I’m very confused on why this was marketed towards me as a BL since there didn’t seem to be any romance in it. Unless I completely missed something.

Don’t assume that there’ll be anything romantic about this just because the authors other work has it. Once that assumption is outta the way, you can enjoy the story for what it is.

Anyway, it was okay. I like the concept of the vampire just wanting to eat human food, but I could take or leave it. I’m probably never gonna read this again unlike other oneshots that I’ve read.

A really simple and cute manga about a dhampir who simply wishes to eat human food, and also designated protector of a special boarding house. If you want a cute and sweet vampire tale, this is one for the TBR piles.

Those who love manga about food enjoyers, and those who might even need a pallet cleanser, consider this one. :)

Nice art, interesting premise, enough so that I would have wished it had been more than just 1 volume. Think it would have done well as a shorter series of 2-5 volumes.
