This course is based upon the book, Matharat al-Qulub (The Purifier of Hearts), by the great Mauritanian scholar, Shaykh Muhammad Mawlud (d. 1323 AH/1905 CE). Imam Mawlud mastered the art of summarizing and repackaging some of the most necessary, yet oft-neglected disciplines for the benefit of the general Muslim population. In this profound work, Imam Mawlud diagnoses the spiritual diseases that most frequently plague the human heart, and like an expert physician, also gives us the cure.
This particular course is special in that the commentary was written by one of Tayba Foundation’s own students, Ustadh Amin Anderson. Amin used the time he was incarcerated to work on himself like the spiritual aspirants of old, and implement the works of Imam Mawlud. This book draws on numerous sources, most principally the commentary of the contemporary scholar Shaykh Muhammad al-Hasan. Imam Mawlud takes the reader on the difficult task of heart-work in the hopes that at the end of our journey, it will be said “O Soul at Peace! Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing!”
At the Tayba Foundation, we believe that all people contain a wellspring of goodness within them, and we believe in the power of human potential. Even when individuals encounter dramatic setbacks in life, lasting change is possible. Tayba Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving individuals and families impacted by incarceration. We believe in the power of human change through holistic education, guidance, and support.
