Pigs & Prey: A Reverse Harem Shifter Retelling

Rate this book
A spicy, laugh-out-loud shifter rom-com retelling of The Three Little Pigs —where the Big Bad Wolf goes into heat… and the not-so-little pigs are the villains.

I come to the Porkwell offices ready to bite heads off—not mount them.

Specifically, I plan to threaten the smug pig bastard who’s bulldozing Wolfstone Preserve, destroy his proposal, and maybe claw a few throats while I’m at it. I’m a proud wolf-shifter, an environmental activist, and totally in control of my heat cycle.

Until I’m not.

One ill-timed hormonal flare-up, one smug tusked menace in a suit, and suddenly I’m flat on my back moaning Percy Porkwell’s name.

Now I’m entangled with three very hot, very complicated pigs.

Percy: The golden boy architect who knows exactly how to use that tusked
Prescott: The awkward genius who’s been stalking me (politely… but still)
Hamilton: The ruthless, cocky CEO with pigheaded shadow-daddy energy who wants revenge—and to ruin me in every possible way.

I hate them all.
I want them all.
And the forest isn’t the only thing at risk of being claimed.

Enemies to lovers. Reverse harem. One wolf in heat. Three pigs, one lake.
Big tusks. Bigger problems.

Pigs & Prey is a standalone in the Feral Fairy Tales series of spicy retellings. Packed with heat, humor, and heart, this is definitely not your childhood bedtime story.

Content warning This is a shifter rom-com intended for mature audiences.
If you’re looking for a light, fun, and spicy standalone to pull you out of a reading slump, this book is for you.

P.S. You might fall in love with Prescott.
P.P.S. You might never look at bacon the same way again.

All authors need to takes notes on this novella cause what in the actual hell! How was this so freaking good. This was funny, charming, short and sweet, but impactful all at the same time. I absolutely loved the fact that the roles were reversed and that the story was the wolf and the three little pigs. The pork references made me laugh so hard water came out of my nose I’m not kidding. I’m anxiously waiting for the next book in this series.

I definitely had laugh out loud moments!

There was some hilarious use of names, and I adore shifter romance that actually utilises their forms.

Such a fun and sweet novella.

Being a novella, I don’t expect much for plot but this one held strong and it wasn’t all smut and spice.

Keen for a series!

I was slightly apprehensive going into this book, I've never read a shifter rh where the woman was the predator, and with pigs for that matter! Not surprisingly, because JC Dark is amazing, I thoroughly enjoyed it! Great lighthearted read which is definitely needed to cleanse the palette sometimes.

HAMazing 😉

Retelling of the three little pigs. That book was cute, light and fluffy.
I feel like I've read tons of the beauty and the beast or Cinderella retellings and I was truly impressed that, for once, an author thought outside of the box while still doing a retelling. I definitely recommend to RH rom-com readers!

I think I’m actually going to hell for reading this. Who decided the story of the three little pigs needed to be written as smut and why? It’s not that I have questions, I just think they should see someone. Maybe a psychiatrist or a vet?

This was such a fun read, I just loved Ruby, she was just trying to do her best to preserve her species culture. And the pig brothers? They were all so different but each just as into Ruby as the other! I loved it, just what I needed to lift my mood!

I actually loved this retelling, and I can't wait to see what's to come in this series.

I loved that the wolf was a female, Ruby is such a bada$$. Ruby is the Wolfhart Pack representative who is intelligent, caring, kind, and just so special. She sees everyone as they are not for what they do.

Our mmc's are Hamilton, Percy, and Prescott. These are 3 pig shifters that are extremely wealthy. Hamilton is dominant and focused, Percy, is an architect who sees beauty in everything, and Prescott is the tech genius behind literally everything, but he's so soft compared to his brothers. Prescott is my favourite! I just love him.

The plot was really unique. The Porkwell brothers are putting forward a proposal for more businesses, which will create more job opportunity for their shifter town. However, it's at the cost of the wolf's heritage lands. It's Ruby's job to prove to the board that their ideas are going to ruin the land. The only problem is that she's extremely attracted to the brothers, and poor Ruby doesn't know how to deal with those particular emotions. I love how this story plays out. It became obvious to me that these brothers are also kind of obsessed with Ruby but just don't know how to keep her/ make her realise she is it for them.

Thank you so much, JC, and your lovely team for the opportunity to read this story. I am forever grateful 🙏

Pigs & Prey was so much more than I was expecting. A contemporary retelling of the three little pigs with a shifter twist made me expect something light and really silly. But somehow the author brought so much depth to this book. This story was about land developers against a conservationist who lived on the land in question. There was history between these peoples -- both the pigs and the wolves have different versions of their history involving wolves tearing down straw houses, each with the other as the monster in the tale. And there was cultural undertones between a predator shifter and the prey shifters that run their town.

Each of these characters were complex with their own passions and insecurities. Their attraction to each other was built into the story and while it was all coming to a head in these chapters it did feel like the characters had a history with each other. Ruby was a wolf on a mission. Hamilton was pigheaded and controlling. Percy was artistic and idealistic. Prescott had spent his life hiding behind monitors. And somehow they all came together and it was beautiful and messy and somehow realistic? And don't forget funny. It was still a wolf finding herself with the three little pigs.

4/5 Stars – A Hilarious and Curly Twist on a Classic Fairytale

Pigs & Prey is an unexpectedly hilarious and spicy retelling of the Three Little Pigs with a reverse harem shifter twist. I found myself laughing out loud more than once - those pig shifters are just too cute for words. Mud, mischief, and yes, even curly tails... I was absolutely charmed (and maybe a little obsessed)!

The spicy scenes definitely deliver, with a special shoutout to that unforgettable hate-fueled moment hot, intense, and totally fan-worthy.

Overall, this was a light, cheeky, and thoroughly entertaining read - perfect for when you need a break from heavier stories. JC Dark nailed the balance of humor, heat, and heart.

Three rich pigs

4.5 stars for cuteness! Three pigs and the red haired she wolf living in an era that press are treated differently, no respect for sure. The three pig shifter brothers family have built a thriving empire, of which they want to develop ancestral home for the wolf shifters. One she wolf activist who has wormed her way under their skins. The trek to the lake was fabulous! The fun and frolicking was so fun to read.

Absolutely hilarious!

This was hilarious and sweet at the same time.

I loved all the three little pigs references but it was cool to see the wolf being the 'good' one.

I loved all the characters and Prescott was actually really sweet, definitely my fave.

A nice short, lighthearted read that I would reccomend!

pigs and prey

This was such a cute read!!!! Ugh I loved it so much, I wish there was more epilogue, I wanted to see them mated and possibly having piglets or pups. So so cute, definitely unique to most retelling, not only cause it’s not princess based, but because the shifters are different here.

If you want a short but spicy story with a light storyline, this is for you. A cute story of the three little pigs (the MMCs) and the wolf (FMC) who end up falling in love. I have a dislike/love for Hamilton. I also loved the MMCs chapters more than Ruby’s for some odd reason.

Sweet, quick read with the wicked (but not so little) pigs falling for the wolf. I feel it could use more worldbuilding in terms of how the whole 'shifting' thing works, and the differences between species were resolved too quickly. Otherwise nice spin on the 'big, bad wolf' stories.

This was a weird one. Weird in a good way. It's not only a spicy or a romance book but it's commentary on how humans take over land without care to what it does to the inhabitants, forcing other humans onto tiny amounts of land.
