Rate this book
When Sri Lankan-born Tristan Ashwin Lorne accidentally summons the demon Appollyon to Earth, he becomes a game-changer in the eternal combat of good against evil. Now unleashed, Appollyon wreaks havoc and destruction under the guise of crime, natural disasters and wars.

Those killed by him awaken to find themselves in Olympus, a realm of four islands, ruled by two mysterious elders, who ally with magical creatures and plot to defeat the demon.

When a devastating confrontation brings Tristan here, little does he know that his journey of magic, mystery and self discovery is only about to begin.

KNIGHTS OF OLYMPUS, the first of the Tristan's Conquest trilogy is a gripping tale that bridges worlds of ancient magic and prophecy, where some are destined by their choices to become either heroes or villains.

A R. Jayatilaka (Ashan) was born on October 12, 1985 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

His interest in writing projects, big or small, began with English term-test essays, writing short stories for fun, and burning the midnight oil with work-related and freelance projects.

A holder of a Bachelor’s Degree, and a Professional Postgraduate Diploma, he entered the corporate sector to put his passion for professional and creative writing to task.

Most recently he began writing his first fiction novel – Tristan’s Conquest: Knights of Olympus, the first of a fantasy trilogy - based on a series of loosely connected nightmares, and the promise of a great story.

Perera Hussein Publishing, publishers of Gratien prize winning / shortlisted authors and winners of international awards have now published Tristan’s Conquest: Knights of Olympus under the PH Books brand, Bay Owl Press.

Tristan’s Conquest is the first Sri Lankan contemporary epic fantasy series to hit bookshelves.

Ashan is currently working on its sequel.

"This book is, simply put, beautifully stunning. For any fans of The Hobbit, LOTR movies. An adventure. Beginning of the war between good and evil. A sequel of tales in modern and mythological world linked together. It's truly a splendid journey that this book takes you through"

As a lover of fantasy, I found "Tristan's Conquest" to be an absolute delight and look forward with anticipation to the next book!

The blend of times between worlds of reality and mythical is smoothly done and the characters are given such vibrant personalities that are diverse and yet compliments the story and brings about a strong sense of reality to the reader. The variety of times and places are well described and makes it easy to imagine one being right there as a part of the scene.

The Author has been successful in taking well known and well read figures of mythology and portraying them in a new light while yet staying true to their characters.

However, it is not a book which one could finish in one go devouring the pages, but rather like a splendidly aged wine which one must take time to taste and enjoy the different tones of flavors.

Liked this book, especially because it draws from historic and significant events that have taken place around the world and gives a new perspective about what may have caused them - in terms of fantasy, hats off to this technique. Alongside this, the plot also draws from Greek and Roman mythology, marries the current state of the world with it and by doing so, makes the story more relevant to the reader.Impressed.
Knights of Olympus heralds together an army of seemingly ordinary people and challenges them “to free the wreckless gods within us”. It’s about a journey of self discovery; a long and tedious journey that unravels with the turning of each page.

I really wanted to like this book, because I love fantasy and because its the first Epic Fantasy by a Sri Lankan author. But I found it a struggle to finish.

The problem with the book is that it’s weak. It’s not just that the plot was unoriginal - all writing is to a greater or lesser extent derivative. But the characters in the story are weak as well. They were unconvincing and their personalities were trite, even contrived. It was very much the story that drove the characters when it should have been the other way around.

Ashan Jayatilaka isn’t a bad writer, his descriptive passages about contemporary Colombo life are really good. He has a canny ear for the cadences of Sri Lankan speech and behaviour and does a decent job of worldbuilding but I wish he’d spent that time character building instead. The book might have been the better for it.

I've had this book for like 3 years and I didn't read it till now haha.

So, this was an okay read. I found it difficult to follow the story at times, meaning it shifted scenes too sudden at times and threw me off a lot. But it was a really good storyline. I liked the characters, but I didn't really relate with them or see much depth in their characterisation.

I found the writing a bit halting at first too. It didn't really flow well and really threw off my reading throughout.
