What if your soulmate was your biggest annoyance at the first sip?
Bhavika is a fiercely independent oral surgeon with no time for rishtas, riddles, or ridiculous Indian matchmaking rituals. Sankalp is a brilliant, emotionally reserved CEO who prefers logic over love—and has a mother who treats shaadi proposals like IPO launches. Then there’s his sister, Aarushi, a rising fashion designer, and Sambhav, Sankalp’s once-inseparable best friend—now tangled in a relationship that’s unravelling fast. When a single cup of chai turns into an accidental engagement, sparks fly—and not the romantic kind. Between chaotic families, social scrutiny, and one very opinionated mother-in-law-in-waiting, Bhavika and Sankalp are stuck in a drama they didn’t ask for.
But as they navigate fake smiles, real arguments, and unexpected confessions, a question brews stronger than their Is it possible to fall in love after saying yes for all the wrong reasons?
Heartfelt, hilarious, and refreshingly honest, Over a Cup of Tea is a modern desi rom-com about arranged marriages, impossible expectations, and the kind of love that slowly steeps into something real.
Perfect for fans of Sonali Dev, Sophie Kinsella, and Indian Matchmaking—with extra masala!
This book is a perfect example of drama, emotions, and empowerment together.
Sankalp's character shows how a man should be. He is caring, loving, supportive, and committed. The way he supported Bhavika is absolutely adorable. He believed in her when everyone was against it. He gave his two hundred percent to make his beautiful relationship strong.
Bhavika is strong and independent. She is too loud for calm and self-controlled Sankalp. But the way she proved her love towards Sankalp was commendable. She stood with him when everyone was against him. When there was no one to support him and his innocence. She became his savior in the worst time of his life. She defined trust with her strength and fierceness.
In an arranged marriage setup, this couple became an example of love, trust, and happiness. They proved that love can happen at any stage and in any circumstances.
This story also talks about women's empowerment, believing in self, courage, and the real meaning of standing together against all odds.
I loved the complete scenario of arranged marriage drama, the conversation between Sankalp and Bhavika, those desi aunties with their typical taunts. It was as if I was witnessing it live 😊. All the side characters were developed so well. Aarushi and Sambhav's story also has a great charm to it.
this book is everything I adore in a contemporary Indian rom-com! From the very first page, I was pulled into Bhavika and Sankalp’s world—a world of witty banter, hilarious misunderstandings, meddling families, and a relationship that blooms in the most unexpected way.
Bhavika, with her fierce independence and no-nonsense attitude, was such a refreshing female lead, and Sankalp’s emotionally guarded yet soft-at-heart personality balanced her out perfectly. Their chemistry was chef's kiss—slow-burning, chaotic, and utterly real. And don’t even get me started on the family drama! From Sankalp’s IPO-level shaadi proposals to Bhavika’s refusal to be tied down by tradition, every moment was packed with humor, emotion, and relatability.
Oh, and can we please talk about that gorgeous book cover?! I’m in love! It’s aesthetic, classy, and captures the soul of the story so beautifully.
If you're a fan of strong characters, messy love stories, and chai-fueled desi drama, this book is your next cozy read. Full 5 stars from me! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 P.S. I’m still smiling at that ending 😭💕
Review: Over a Cup of Tea by Divine Earth Love doesn’t always arrive with thunder — sometimes, it comes quietly, in a porcelain cup, carried by tradition, conflict, and the courage to change.
Over a Cup of Tea is a tenderly brewed modern romcom that rises far above the syrupy clichés of arranged marriage tales. It’s a narrative that doesn’t rush to a boil — it simmers, slowly and soulfully, steeping its characters in realism, warmth, and just enough spice to leave an aftertaste.
At its core are Sankalp and Bhavika — he, the disciplined entrepreneur running a prosthetics empire; she, a passionate dental surgeon unafraid to speak her truth. What begins as a formal setup between two opposites soon unfolds into a compelling exploration of love, identity, and resistance — especially the quiet, graceful rebellion of a woman who refuses to trade her career for domesticity.
The romance here is not breathless and wild — it’s reflective and responsible. The magic lies not in the drama, but in the deepening understanding between two strong individuals. Sankalp may be rooted in tradition, but he is no relic — he listens, evolves, and stands as a green-flag partner, unwavering in his support of Bhavika’s aspirations. And Bhavika — ah, what a refreshing protagonist! Fiercely independent, unapologetically ambitious, and yet deeply vulnerable, she represents every modern Indian woman striving to find balance in a society still clutching its old rulebooks.
The supporting cast — especially Aarushi, Advaith, and the heartbreakingly sincere Sambhav — breathe vitality into the story. They are not mere background noise; they’re echoes of the protagonists’ inner dilemmas and dreams.
What makes this book sing is its authenticity. The prose is conversational yet thoughtful, like sharing your secrets over chai with a close friend. The emotional arcs are believable — familial resistance isn’t villainized, but humanized. Conflicts arise not from melodrama, but from generational values clashing with modern ambitions — and yet, the narrative never preaches. It understands.
Yes, the second half might’ve benefited from a slower pace — one wishes to linger longer in these intimate moments — but the emotional payoff is satisfying, with a climax that honors both love and self-respect.
Verdict: Over a Cup of Tea is more than a love story — it’s a subtle celebration of women’s empowerment, mutual respect, and the radical act of choosing partnership without surrender. It is a must-read for those who believe that romance is not about losing yourself in another, but about growing together, cup by cup.
A quiet revolution in the world of Indian romance fiction.
Sometimes, love doesn’t make a loud entrance. It comes gently — like a warm cup of tea, carrying tradition, quiet conflict, and the strength to grow.
Over a Cup of Tea is a modern romantic comedy, but it’s not filled with the usual drama of arranged marriage stories. Instead, it takes its time. The story grows slowly and beautifully, giving us characters that feel real, emotions that are honest, and just the right touch of charm.
At the heart of the book are Sankalp and Bhavika. Sankalp is a focused businessman who runs a prosthetics company. Bhavika is a confident dental surgeon who speaks her mind. When they first meet, it’s a formal match set up by their families. But as they get to know each other, their bond turns into something deeper — a connection built on respect, love, and shared growth.
This love story isn’t filled with wild passion. Instead, it’s thoughtful and meaningful. Sankalp, though rooted in tradition, is not stuck in the past. He learns, listens, and truly supports Bhavika’s dreams. And Bhavika — what a refreshing lead! She’s strong, ambitious, and brave, yet also soft and emotional. She represents so many modern women who are trying to balance their personal dreams with society’s expectations.
The side characters — like Aarushi, Advaith, and the kind-hearted Sambhav — add depth to the story. They don’t just fill space; they reflect the struggles and hopes of the main characters.
What makes this book truly special is how real it feels. The writing is simple and heartfelt — like a warm conversation with a close friend over chai. The story doesn’t paint anyone as a villain. Even the family members who resist change are shown as human, shaped by their own experiences and fears.
If there’s one small flaw, it’s that the second half feels a bit rushed. You might wish the story slowed down so you could enjoy a few more tender moments. But the ending brings everything together in a way that respects both love and personal identity.
In short, Over a Cup of Tea is a lovely, honest, and deeply Indian love story — one that stays with you long after you turn the last page.
Over a Cup of Tea is a refreshingly honest, heartwarming modern desi romance that stirs together laughter, love, and life’s quiet complexities with the comforting aroma of chai. Set against the backdrop of an unexpected arranged engagement, it follows the emotionally layered journey of Dr. Bhavika—a fierce, self-made oral surgeon—and Sankalp, a brilliant but emotionally reserved CEO, as they navigate mismatched expectations, meddling families, and their own guarded hearts. What begins with a reluctant sip quickly becomes a slow brew of affection. The author doesn't rush the romance—instead, it unfolds through realistic conversations, clashing egos, and slowly disarmed vulnerabilities. Bhavika’s fierce independence and sharp wit are perfectly counterbalanced by Sankalp’s quiet strength and unexpected tenderness, making their chemistry feel deeply real and earned. The writing is warm, simple, and deeply evocative. Every moment—whether it’s an awkward meeting with a judgmental mother-in-law-in-waiting, or a stolen glance over chai—feels authentic and rooted in everyday Indian life. The tea symbolism is subtly beautiful, linking the slow steeping of love with the everyday intimacy of shared cups and quiet conversations. What truly sets Over a Cup of Tea apart is its thoughtful exploration of family dynamics, women’s empowerment, and the struggle to balance tradition with modernity. Bhavika isn’t just a romantic lead—she’s a symbol of strength, compassion, and self-worth. Sankalp’s evolution from logic-bound loner to a man who defies societal norms for love is equally satisfying. The subplot involving Sankalp’s sister Aarushi and his once-best friend Sambhav adds emotional depth, portraying the tangled threads of friendship, ambition, and heartbreak. Aarushi, in particular, shines as one of the standout female characters—creative, intuitive, and layered. This book is not just about falling in love—it’s about learning to trust, to fight for what matters, and to find beauty in the messy, unpredictable journey of human connection.
Over a Cup of Tea is a warm, whip-smart romantic comedy that blends humor, heart, and cultural critique into an engaging slow-burn love story. Isha Gupta masterfully brews a narrative as comforting—and as complex—as a perfect cup of Indian chai.
The novel centers on Bhavika, a fiercely independent dental surgeon with a sharp tongue and a sharper sense of self, and Sankalp, a charming yet tradition-tethered MD who lives under the watchful eye of his mother. What begins as an arranged marriage meeting loaded with mutual disinterest evolves into a spirited tango of wit, vulnerability, and unexpected connection.
Gupta’s writing shines in its dialogue, full of sarcasm, subtext, and insight into generational conflict and gender expectations. Each “chai date” between Bhavika and Sankalp peels back another layer of their personalities and challenges the rituals of matrimonial matchmaking with refreshing honesty. The novel navigates the social satire of Indian matchmaking while offering heartfelt commentary on identity, ambition, and emotional authenticity.
The supporting cast—meddling relatives, sarcastic siblings, and overenthusiastic aunties—bring both comic relief and cultural texture, grounding the romantic arc in real, relatable chaos. Gupta balances levity and emotional depth with finesse, crafting scenes that are laugh-out-loud funny one moment and achingly poignant the next.
While some plot beats are familiar to rom-com fans, the originality lies in the cultural specificity and the bold voice of its protagonist. Bhavika isn’t waiting to be saved; she’s saving molars and herself in equal measure. And Sankalp’s evolution from passive son to thoughtful partner is satisfying without being saccharine.
Over a Cup of Tea is ultimately a love letter—to independence, to honest connection, and, of course, to the kind of chai that heals more than just the day’s exhaustion. Highly recommended for readers who like their romances feminist, funny, and full of feeling.
Over a Cup of Tea is a romance that will make you smile and feel all the feels. It’s sweet, emotional, and full of moments that touch your heart in quiet ways. This is the charming love story of Bhavika, a talented oral surgeon, and Sankalp, a sharp and successful CEO, who find themselves in an unexpected engagement, and their journey from strangers to lovers slowly unfolds over many heartfelt conversations shared with cups of tea. Bhavika and Sankalp have amazing chemistry, and their love story is built through small, everyday conversations that feel so real.
I love how the book explores human emotions in a simple, honest way. Nothing feels too dramatic or over-the-top. The story shows how two people with strong, different lives find common ground and love through patience, respect, and understanding. The author has a lovely way of making the story feel personal. The writing is warm, emotional, and balanced, with the right touch of humor and heart. The characters are realistic, and their relationship grows naturally. It’s not just about romance, but also about family, career, and finding balance. I especially appreciated how Bhavika’s journey as a successful woman is shown with care, and how Sankalp supports her despite his family’s early doubts.
The subplot about Sankalp’s sister Aarushi and his best friend Sambhav adds even more emotion to the story. You get to see different kinds of relationships and how they shape the characters. My favorite part is when Sankalp stands up for Bhavika in front of his family. It’s a small moment, but full of love and respect. It shows true partnership.
If you're looking for a simple, comforting, and relatable love story, this book is for you. It’s not just about romance, but about connection over tea, over time, and through life’s ups and downs. A perfect read for romantic souls and tea lovers alike. I'd give it a solid 5 out of 5 stars!
Arranged marriage indian setup , multiple couples , witty banters sign me up. As much as the wit, the sarcasm , the mentions of tea has me happy and giddy the way and arranged marriage in typical indian setup is shown steals it for me.
How inspite of being accomplished in respected professions as bhavika , brides are made to leave there carrear in the name of family name and yet expected to love the family as there own is hypocritic , but the conditioning does it's thing and the bride accepts the new family whole heartedly . And slowly as the story unfolds we see how she becomes the force to reckon with , how she stands for her partner , how she takes it head in when a fight ensues.
At the same time sankalp the MMC of the story is also shown as someone who never hesitated to take side of his beloved , he knows what's right and dosnt crack under pressure of his family in name of peace keeping he stands strong with his wife and boy he has ways to express his love , not with flowers or grand gestures, but by making reality out of dreams for his wife , by standing with her when she was looked down upon .
The story revolves around arrange marriage , compliances , compromises , a legal trouble for the couple and another couple who are the best friend and sister of the MMC , the story also highlights , how so called relatives don't stand for you when you are in need but people who you never knew earlier , stand and be your rock if you are lucky enough though , the concept of medical negligence and greedy families is also highlighted which compromises with patient care all in all loved how well the book highlights the real issues that exists and how there's always hope that all will be all right .
"Over a Cup of Tea" is a beautifully written, heartwarming novel that invites you to slow down and savor the little things—like meaningful conversations, quiet resistance, and the slow, blooming journey of love. In a world obsessed with instant gratification, this book is a gentle reminder that some of the best connections take time to steep.
The story follows Dr. Bhavika Goyal, a bold, intelligent, and unapologetically real woman, and Sankalp Bansal, a corporate powerhouse with a quiet heart. Their relationship isn't built on grand gestures or dramatic twists—it's a slow-burn romance that simmers with authenticity. Their chemistry unfolds over conversations, miscommunications, and tender silences, all shared over cups of tea.
What truly sets this book apart is its emotional depth. Bhavika’s refusal to shrink herself to fit societal expectations, and Sankalp’s gradual softening, are portrayed with such nuance that you can’t help but root for them. Add to that the vibrant masala of family drama, witty sibling banter, and sharply written dialogues—and you have a story that feels both intimate and cinematic.
The writing is effortlessly engaging, balancing warmth, humor, and vulnerability in every chapter. The author’s ability to make everyday settings feel profound and personal makes this book feel like a conversation with an old friend. Even the pacing, though deliberately slow, feels like a comforting pause—a break from the chaos of real life.
If you’re looking for a story that celebrates love, identity, and the beauty of slow growth, Over a Cup of Tea is a perfect pick. It’s a soulful read for romantic hearts, modern women, and anyone who believes the simplest moments can be the most extraordinary. Highly recommended for tea lovers and story lovers alike! 🍵📚💛
Over a Cup of Tea: Love brews slowly is a very realistic book which resonates with women of all ages who are looking for more from life rather than just being someone's wife or mother.
It's stomach clutching hilarious in the beginning when Dr Bhavika is forced to deck up and serve tea to prospective grooms. She hates every bit of it, but has no choice as no matter how educated a girl is even today, marriage to a socially approved man seems to be her only measure of success.
Author Isha's sense of humor and command over English makes this book stand out from the countless books written on the same topic, that is the woes of an arranged marriage, especially to a renowned, business family with traditional expectations.
So, without any spoiler alerts, I recommend young girls and boys, men and women of marriageable age, married men and women, older women who have spent their youth being homemakers despite harboring professional aspirations in their hearts to read this book, as it will certainly inspire you.
Hopefully the men who read this book will understand that their life partners will forever be loyal to them if they are respected and not required to be given permission to work or do what they like just because they are married.
I for one am really glad I read this book because we need books like this to inspire women to believe in themselves and not what society or a mean auntie wants them to believe.

Book Review 📚 :
🦚Arranged Marriage setups always seem scary unless we are sure of how nicely we would be treated or how well would we settle into the family or will the family support our dreams and many such questionnaires. Well Over a Cup of Tea also speaks about the arranged marriage setup between Dr. Bhavika Goyal and Mr. Sankalp Bansal.
🦚The story revolves around Bhavika and Sankalp wherein Sankalps family do not want a career driver daughter in law whereas Sankalp is ready to support his ambition driven wife. While the storyline moves ahead post marriage, Bhavika too in turn stands firmly with Sankalp during hard times and how their relationship moves ahead.
🦚The narration captures the moments during an arranged marriage setup from pre marriage to post marriage. It also captivates the readers through the slow love brewing moments, the nok jhoks, the ups and downs in family life, the drama, the entertainment and the perspective from a male and females point of view during rishta hopping.
🦚The whole book is full of entertainment, action, drama, banters. The best part is their life post marriage which consists of all the dramas. The book surely keeps you engaged since the start as the author has captivated the narration from beginning. A nice warm cosy life read book which you will surely enjoying reading for sure.
This book is a perfect desi romcom with all the drama, emotions and romance. Bhavika is an oral surgeon and Sankalp is a CEO and they meet for an alliance arranged by their parents and feel connected through their love for tea. Bhavika is successful in her career but Sankalp's family is looking for someone who will prioritize family and home and not work and her parents also agreed to this idea but later on things change. I really liked the main characters coz Sankalp is a very supportive and caring husband who understood her needs and also convinced his family to let her work and Bhavika stood by his side when his own loved ones didn't. This book also talks about another relationship which is of Sankalps sister Aarushi and his bestfriend Sambhav. This book is more than an ordinary romance book as it gives importance to topics like women empowerment and career related issues. the first half of the book is very fast paced as it focuses on the relationship part but the second half takes into another dimension with more deeper plot and intense issues. The book will make u feel relatable and connected to the characters. The chemistry between the characters were really good. Overall if you like desi rom com with a lot of drama but want to read more than just usual romcom then do read it.
Sometimes, love enters your life when you least expect it—soft and unassuming, yet as refreshing as a perfectly brewed cup of tea. It’s not the kind of love that’s rushed or forced, but one that steeps slowly, warming everything from within.
This is the story of Bhavika, an ambitious, independent woman dedicated to her dreams, and Sankalp, a confident businessman whose arrogance gives way whenever it comes to the woman he loves. Their journey began with an arranged meeting, yet the love that blooms between them is neither planned nor hurried. It’s gentle, pure—like tea infusing gradually in warm water.
This book explores the quietest, most delicate form of love. Emotions here aren’t hurried; they’re allowed to unfold at their own pace, simmering softly until they become something profound.
What I loved most about this book is its simplicity. There’s no exaggeration, no elaborate metaphors—just truth laid bare, plain and beautiful. As a young woman in India, I found myself able to relate deeply to these characters. Too often, our dreams get crushed beneath the weight of responsibility. We all need that one person who believes in us—someone who helps lift that burden so we can chase our dreams.
If you believe in soft beginnings, slow love and conversations that linger long after they're over, then this book might just find a permanent spot in your heart.
Where Humour Meets Heartfelt Realities, Every Character Feels Like A Flavour You Want To Savour Till The Last Sip.
“Over a Cup of Tea” by Divine Earth is the perfect brew of emotions of today’s woman, concocted with gentle humour and subtle sarcasm.
I truly admired how the author portrayed the plotlines and designed the character arcs of Bhavika, Sankalp, Aarushi, Sambhav, and Advaith in such a way that you want to blend into their flavours.
The inner turmoil brewed inside Bhavika before her marriage reflects what so many women experience in today’s society. The story is a mirror of how women’s independence often stands one step behind wifely duties or is crushed completely under the weight of tradition.
The vocabulary is rich, the writing is realistic, and the tone feels highly relatable. At first glance, it may seem like a simple rom-com, but it is much more.
As you turn the pages, you taste different flavours—chaos of Indian marriage alliances, Bhavika and Sankalp’s sarcastic romance, the pressure to live up to family expectations, the warmth of friendship, unwavering trust in loved ones, and even the bitterness of greed.
It’s a book to savour, not to rush through. Take your time with each page and each chapter, and you’ll relish the beauty and depth of the story.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review over a cup of tea is a compelling and relatable story. The author does a great ob depicting Bhavika’s successful career journey, while also navigating Sankalp’s family’s concerns about prioritizing home life over work. Initially, Sankalp’s parents share the same mindset but as the plot progresses, perspectives shift in a believable, heartfelt way. The central characters shine: Sankalp proves to be a loving and supportive husband, championing Bhavika’s ambitions and persuading his family to do the same. Bhavika, in turn, stands firm beside him even when his loved ones hesitate. Their chemistry is genuine and engaging. What elevates this book beyond a typical romance is its thoughtful exploration of women’s empowerment and career challenges. Alongside the main storyline, the subplot involving Sankalp’s sister Aarushi and his best friend Sambhav adds depth and emotional richness. Structurally, the book is well-paced, fast-moving and emotionally rewarding in the first half, then evolving into a deeper, more intense narrative in the second half. You’ll find yourself genuinely connected to the characters and the issues they face. Overall, the author has done a strong job balancing romance, family dynamics, and professional aspirations, earning a solid four-star rating.
Bhavika and Sankalp are both obsessed with tea. They meet each other on marriage meeting arranged by their parents. But Bhavika don't want to give up on her career for marriage while Sankalp's parents wants their daughter in law to not do any work. What's gonna happen? Will she still say yes?
But the later on journey between them is so interesting. Sankalp has been trying to be the husband she deserves and it’s so lonely to watch. Every ceremony feels like wow. It’s doesn't feel like a arrange marriage. Instead it felt like a lovers who is been in relationship for years are getting married. The connection, the love, the care...everything feels magical.
Sankalp is so understanding and lovable with Bhavika. The small interactions between them shows how much he cares for her and take care of her.
Their marriage life is so lovely and adorable to watch. They are so cute. They fought and also make uped. Scolded and also apologised. It shows how marriage works to me. It wouldn't be always sweet but also have fights, sad, pain. And they is also love, care, forgiveness, apologise.
I swear Aarushi and Sambhav love story made me so immersed. It’s hard, obsessive and deep. The way they love each other and the scene where Sambhav claims her? My most favorite one🙈💘
Over a Cup of Tea: Love Brews Slowly by Divine Earth and Isha Gupta Garg is a warm, witty, and relatable romance that takes the classic “arranged marriage setup” and modernizes it in an original way. Bhavika, a fiercely independent oral surgeon, and Sankalp, a logical, emotionally guarded CEO, manage to collide in the most marvelous manner; an accidental engagement over a cup of tea. What takes place is an entertaining mix of family drama, societal expectations, and brewing chemistry that takes its time to develop over the pages. The humor is clever and funny, and the observations both sharp and comical. It sets its sights on bigger themes that touch on women's agency, families, work, love, and the inevitable struggle for time and attention. Her unrepentant independence and his quiet reliability come together to make a favorite couple, and family members Aarushi and Sambhav add even more dimensions to the story. The plot is about love, but ultimately, it's about the elephant in the room we call student life, getting to know someone in that hard-to-pin-down way, and having love disguised as irritation (or vice versa). This rom-com has sincere charm and aspects of culture and emotional heft, and fills you up long after your final drink.
'Over a Cup of Tea' is a romance that will make you smile and feel all the feels. The story follows Bhavika, a beautiful oral surgeon, and Sankalp, a brilliant CEO, and how they find themselves in an accidental engagement. Their chemistry is undeniable, and their love story is beautifully captured through everyday conversations over a cup of tea.
What I liked about this book is how it explores human emotions without making it sound too much for a reader The author has a nice way of making the story feel like a personal journey. The characters are realistic and relatable, and their relationship grows in a natural way. The writing style is engaging, with a perfect balance of humor, warmth, and every other emotions.
If you're looking for a simple and comforting read 'Over a Cup of Tea' is the right one for you. It's cute narrative will make you appreciate the connections we share over simple things like a cup of tea and hence the title.
When you read the book, you find yourself genuinely connected to the characters and the issues they face. It's a delightful read for romantic souls and definitely tea lovers alike
Over A Cup of Tea is a tale of everyday love story which we can find brewing with all its sweetness and strength like a fresh steaming cuppa literally in every Indian homes.
The story narrates about Dr. Bhavika Goyal whose first love before any man is tea and Sankalp Bansal who can't imagine his world without tea. Both of them got hitched through an arranged marriage and found love. Can they sail through life's trials and tribulations strongly with one another or do they get separated?
The author, in this book, has brilliantly and vibrantly brought alive in words the nitty gritty details of an arranged marriage right from Rishta meetings which often makes us take decisions wisely to the over the top marriage functions.
You cannot miss the creative comparsions about life incidents with some fun quotes based on tea done tastefully the author.
Meanwhile, the author has masterfully penned the emotions that Sankalp and Bhavika faced in their tough and happy times and the impact of it in their lives.
The other star characters of the book are Aarushi and Sambhav and the way the author has unfolded their love story makes you believe in the power of love.
Being a chai lover myself, I just loved how life events, emotions, and relationships were compared to different varieties of chai — their ingredients, how they're brewed, and the overall vibe... ahhh, I was literally craving chai the entire time because of this! ☕💛
The plot is really engaging too. It revolves around an arranged marriage setup between Dr. Bhavika Goyal (MDS) and Mr. Sankalp Bansal (CEO of Biotics – a prosthetics company), and subtly covers the story of Aarushi Bansal (Sankalp’s sister) and Sambhav Singla (his best friend).
Also, coming from a family of Goyals, Bansals & Agarwals — I was relating to so many things! That slowly brewing tea-like love, the real-life struggles, family drama, societal pressure — it all clicked so well.
What didn’t work for me was the timeline and some parts of the writing. Scenes ended a bit abruptly, and there were multiple POVs (5 in total), which got a bit confusing at times. But the plot, the emotions, and the craving (both for chai and love) kept me hooked!
If you're someone who loves chai, romance, and a good dose of family drama — this one’s for you!
I just finished Over a Cup of Tea: Love Brews Slowly, and honestly, I didn’t expect to get so invested! The story follows two people who meet through an arranged marriage setup, but what I loved is how real and gradual their relationship felt. It wasn’t insta-love or full of dramatic twists—instead, it was about two people learning to trust and open up to each other, one conversation at a time (usually over a cup of tea, which was super cute).
The main characters both have their own personalities and backstories, and I appreciated how the book gave them space to grow. The female lead, especially, is strong and independent, and it was refreshing to see her stand up for herself and her dreams. The banter between the couple felt natural and made me smile, and there were a lot of little cultural details that made the whole setting feel very authentic.
What stood out to me most was how the book balanced humor and emotion—it had me giggling one moment and then feeling all warm and fuzzy the next. If you like slow-burn romances that actually take the time to develop the relationship, I think you’ll really enjoy this one. It’s a cozy, feel-good read that leaves you smiling.
There’s something quietly powerful about a book that doesn’t scream for your attention—but holds it, page after page, like a warm hand around your own.
Over a Cup of Tea is that kind of story. A gentle, slow-burn romance that simmers with wit, cultural nuance, and just the right amount of emotional depth. Isha Gupta Garg brings together the charm of old-school Indian sensibilities with the chaos of modern-day expectations.
The characters feel real—flawed, layered, and surprisingly familiar. Their conversations unfold like the comforting rhythm of chai brewing on a gas stove—steady, fragrant, unhurried. And in that unhurried space, love quietly blooms.
I especially loved how the narrative didn’t rush to dramatic twists or exaggerated tropes. Instead, it chose grace, humor, and authenticity. It’s a romance, yes—but also a journey of self-understanding, of redefining what partnership really means in a world that’s constantly telling you who to be.
If you’re looking for a cozy read filled with tender moments, cultural grounding, and slow-sipped love, this book is a lovely pick. Preferably read with—you guessed it—a hot cup of tea. ☕
Over a Cup of Tea felt like watching a beautifully crafted Bollywood romantic drama — full of emotions, celebrations, family warmth, and a love story that truly brews slowly.
What I absolutely loved was the detailed portrayal of Indian family dynamics — the festivals, the gatherings, the involvement of friends, and the emotional layers woven into every interaction. It felt real, vibrant, and culturally rich. The slow-burn romance was tender and gradual, allowing the relationship to evolve naturally rather than feeling rushed.
The woman empowerment angle was a strong highlight for me. The female lead’s growth, strength, and voice added depth to the story beyond just romance.
Yes, the narrative leans into detailed celebrations and emotional conversations — but that’s also what gives it that cinematic Bollywood charm. It’s not just a love story; it’s about families, identity, and finding your space while love quietly unfolds.
Overall, it was a heartwarming, feel-good read that leaves you with warmth — like a comforting cup of chai on a peaceful evening. ☕💛
Bhavika was a successful oral surgeon with no time for marriage and match making rituals while Sankalp was a brilliant CEO who preferred logic over love. When their paths crossed over a dramatic match making meeting, the pull towards each other brewed like a hot tea but there are few conditions Bhavika always looked to approve an alliance and that included continuing to work after marriage. Could Sankalp's conventional family agree to her condition or were they coming up with an adjustment to fix the alliance?
This book was written on a light hearted theme and the both lead's love for tea has perfectly showed Indian's affection for a tea cup.
I personally liked few elements of the book that dealt with women's empowerment, fighting for justice and men supporting their women's success. Apart from these, this book has a lot of drama and humour to keep you entertained and the slow burning chemistry between Bhavika and Sankalp will leave you smiling. The author's skillful writing once again shines.
I recommend this book to all those who enjoy Desi romance and rom-coms.
Just finished Over a Cup of Tea by Isha Gupta Garg, and I’m honestly so full of emotions. 🥹 It’s a beautiful mix of love, family drama, and desi chaos that felt way too real at times. Bhavika is bold, independent, and never afraid to speak her mind. Sankalp? Calm, emotionally guarded, but such a green flag once you really know him. Their arranged marriage setup turns into something so heartfelt — slow-burn, messy, and magical.
I loved how Sankalp always supported Bhavika’s career and dreams without ever trying to change her. Their chemistry was so natural and raw. Plus, the side characters — Aarushi, Sambhav, Advaith — added so much warmth to the story.
This isn’t just a romance. It’s about growth, trust, and choosing love that lets you be you. The courtroom scene? Iconic. The ending? Still stuck in my head🩷
✨Final thoughts? It’s emotional, soft, spicy in the right way, and full of desi chaos. I felt seen. I felt hugged. I felt like I was sipping chai with these characters and watching it all unfold.
"Love is like tea. It doesn’t need to be perfect. Just warm. Just present." “A woman is like a teabag — you can’t tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water.” The story starts with the arranged marriage of Dr. Bhavika Goyal, a fiercely career-driven woman, and CEO Sankalp Bansal, whose family prefers a more "traditional" bride. But Bhavika belongs wherever her voice can echo.
Their journey is messy, witty, and full of sarcastic banter, a slow-burn romance brewed over countless cups of tea.
I also loved the supporting characters: Aarushi (Sankalp’s spirited sister), Advaith (Bhavika’s supportive brother), and the cute Sankalp-Sambhav (bestfriends) bond. The only reason I gave this 4 instead of 5 stars is because the second half felt a little rushed. Otherwise, this book is a delightful desi rom-com that makes you smile, chuckle, and root for Bhavika’s fire till the end.
Highly recommended if you’re into Strong Female lead, Arranged marriage chaos, Sarcasm & witty banter, Indian family drama.
This book truly hit me in all the right places. It’s not just your typical desi rom-com with cheesy lines and predictable twists—it’s got soul.
Bhavika, a badass oral surgeon who’s worked her way up, suddenly finds herself at a crossroads when her parents set up a rishta with Sankalp, a high-profile CEO. What starts off as just a formal arranged meeting turns into something warm and real over the most unexpected bond—chai. I mean, how beautifully desi is that?
But here’s where it gets real. Bhavika might be killing it in her career, but Sankalp’s family isn’t thrilled about a working daughter-in-law. They want someone who’ll drop everything and be the “perfect” homemaker. What hurts more is that even her own parents go along with this thought. It’s frustrating, it’s heartbreaking—and yet, so real.
And then there's Sankalp. He’s not your typical male lead who needs redemption—he’s already the man you hope exists out there. Supportive, calm, and fiercely protective of Bhavika's dreams.
And the chemistry? Raw. Tangible. Every glance, every disagreement, every stolen moment—they all felt lived in.
If you’re looking for something more than just the surface-level romantic fluff, but still want all that desi drama, emotion, laughter, and love—read this. It's about choosing each other again and again, even when life gets messy. And that’s what makes it unforgettable.
Bhavika and Sankalp’s story honestly felt so refreshing to read. They both are obsessed with tea (and so am I 🫖✨), which instantly made me connect with their characters. Even though they meet through an arranged marriage setup, what really touched me was how their relationship slowly grew into something so warm and magical. Sankalp is such a caring and understanding partner—you can actually feel the love in their little interactions. It doesn’t even feel like an arranged marriage; more like two people who’ve been in love forever.🤌🏽💖
What I loved most was how real their married life is shown. It’s not all picture-perfect; they fight, they scold, they apologise, and then they make up. That’s what made it so adorable to me. It shows the true side of marriage with sweet moments mixed with fights, forgiveness, and care.
And then there’s Aarushi and Sambhav… wow.😍😍 Their love story had me completely immersed. It’s intense, obsessive, and so deep. The way Sambhav claims her is just unforgettable. Honestly, one of my favorite parts of the book.
