Carmen Morales has never forgotten King or the life they had together before the accident that killed Mateo. She now dedicates her time helping others at the Pinehurst Community Center, steering clear of the Club President.
Fate conspires to drive the two of them back together after a raid on a rival stash house sets off a chain of events that even King could not have predicted.

King has had a tragic past and has set up walls to his broken heart. As the President of the Outlaw Royales MC they try to do good in their town and that’s how he finds a little girl that needs help. King knows just the person to help this little girl and that is Carmen the one person he gave up those years ago.
Now face to face again we find that King is still struggling but wants back what he had with Carmen. That also puts Carmen at risk with the club’s enemies gunning for them. This was an intense short read with so much packed into it that I don’t feel I missed a thing. I’m looking forward to reading of this author’s work.
Please read the trigger warnings for this book before reading. This book is going to take you through a range of emotions leaving you feeling raw. Kingston left the love of his life Carmen when his son died, something that he has not gotten over. When he finds a young girl in a closet he takes her to the local community centre where is comes face to face with her. Old feelings resurface and King and Caren both need to face the feelings they have been running from. Carmen's community centre needs funding Kingston steps into help which brings them back together. King is by far my favorite character in this wonderful series. Your heart is going to bleed for him and Carmen. This is a second chance romance you are going to love.
I absolutely love it when an Outlaw Royales ARC hits my inbox, because I know I’m in for a treat...and this instalment did not disappoint! The plot is gripping from start to finish, and as a sucker for second-chance romances and exes-to-lovers stories, this one hit all the right notes. Plus… it has one of my all-time fave tropes: oh no, only one room left at the inn, with only one bed. DAMN, what a shame 😏 King and Carmen’s story is full of tension (there’s one moment where, if I didn’t know there was a guaranteed HEA, I would have been seriously concerned), passion, and sparks that fly from the very first page. I loved every second—an absolute must-read!
Thank you to Donna Costello for an opportunity to read an eARC.
Sometimes the hardest fights aren’t on the street—they’re the ones happening inside our own hearts. Ace of Spades by Donna Costello is the kind of story that grabs you by the collar, drags you through grief, hope, tension, and raw emotion, and leaves you believing that even shattered love can find its way back home.
Kingston “King” Fitzgerald isn’t just an alpha with a leather cut—he’s a man broken by unimaginable loss. Three years ago, tragedy took his son, and in his pain he pushed away the one woman who truly loved him. Now his world is reduced to duty—to his ranch, his club, just surviving. It’s lonely. It’s heavy. It’s real.
And then fate throws Carmen Morales back in his path like a match to gasoline.
When King rescues a frightened, silent little girl and brings her to the Pinehurst Community Center, he never expects to come face-to-face with Carmen—the woman he ran from, the woman he never stopped loving. The air between them crackles with everything unsaid: grief, regret, longing. Watching them navigate old wounds while building a bridge to something new is emotional in the best way—tender one moment, explosive the next.
Carmen, strong and compassionate, is fighting her own battle—holding her community together, dreaming of a library that could change lives, and trying to outrun a heart that never healed. King stepping in to help her, to make her dream real, felt like watching a man trying to fix what he once broke—and that redemption arc hit me right in the chest.
And let’s talk about that little girl King finds. The way he uses sign language to communicate with her? The patience. The protectiveness. The softness beneath the biker grit. It’s impossible not to fall for him.
This book gives you:
🔥 Motorcycle club grit with real heart 💔 Heart-twisting grief and healing 💗 Second-chance romance that burns 👶 A silent child who changes everything 🏍 Found family, community, redemption
By the time I finished, I was rooting for King and Carmen like my own heart depended on it. Their story is raw, messy, tender, and ultimately hopeful—proof that love doesn’t die when life falls apart… it just waits for the right moment to rise again.
If you love MC romance with deep scars, emotional payoff, and characters you’ll ache for, Ace of Spades is an absolute must-read.
Grab tissues. Grab chocolate. Grab the book. You’ll thank me later.

This fabulous novella is the third book in the Oulaw Royales and follows MMC King, who suffers from dyslexia and FMC Carmen who runs their local library. These two have a past that ended due to a horrible tragic loss that King went through, he then pushed her away even though he loved her.
I originally told Donna that I did not know how I was going to be able to choose which book was best in my person opinion. Well, I now officially can say even though this one was not quite as spicy, King and Carmen have won my hearts!!
There are spots where my tears ran, but the love and strength of these two is perfection. Of course, the rest of the crew had spots here and there, especially at the end. I love how the author brings in the other brothers of the mc, and is able to set the stage for the next book coming next month!
Quotes: “Fitz told me you keep running into brick walls with the library you’re trying to set up,” he says, his voice like tires over gravel, low, deep and rough. “I thought I might offer some assistance.” "Is this the Prez offering up the club’s help or is this Kingston Fitzgerald?” “There’s a difference?” he questions, his eyebrows creasing into a frown as she stalks around the desk towards him. “One is about the community, and the other is about us,”
“Your library needs funding, and I would like to provide it,” “That place meant a lot to me, to Mateo. Your team helped so many people, and I would really like to keep that going.”
He can be honest and move forward with his life, or he can pull away again, just like he has the last two times. “Carmen,” he whispers, his forehead resting on hers. “This isn’t a one-night thing for me. I want this with you, I want us, I want…” “I want that too Kingston,” she tells him, her fingertips tracing over the tattoo on his chest, her name written in italics over his heart.
“I know this was only ever meant to be temporary, but I like being here with you Kingston,” she says softly. “I just don’t want to put any pressure on you.” “I want this, Carmen,” he tells her, leaning in close, his nose trailing over hers. “I want to live right here with you.”

Please read the trigger warnings, as this one has some heavy topics discussed.
Kingston Fitzgerald aka King is the motorcycle club president. He’s an ex-marine, as well as a father who lost his son in a tragic accident. Before his death, his son had some hearing issues due to him being born prematurely. While on a mission for the club, King finds a young girl who doesn’t speak, and decides to dust off his old ASL skills to communicate with her. While trying to figure out where to take the girl so she can be safe until child services intervene, one of the other MC members suggests the community center.
Once King is at the community center, he realizes the manager there is his ex girlfriend, Carmen. The two had a relationship while his son was alive, and since his death they have gone their separate ways due to both of them grieving on their own. Carmen works hard to make the community center a safe space, and is also working on creating a library for the community to use as well. Carmen and King clash at first, but when they realize they both are still broken over their trauma the love they have for each other starts to win out over old feelings.
I love the way that Donna Costello can make you fall in love with characters in her short stories. I have loved the previous parts of this series, and this one has a special place in my heart as I loved the chemistry between Carmen and King.
I cannot wait to see what is next for this series! Thank you Donna Costello for the ARC opportunity!
*Ace of Spades* is the third book in the *Outlaw Royales* series. King and Carmen’s second-chance love story may be short, but it will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. I was hooked from the very beginning to the last page, as it is packed full of action, drama, and suspense. King and Carmen find themselves crossing paths again by fate after King and his brothers rescue a young girl. The safest place for her is Carmen’s community center.
In this story, King and Carmen finally confront their feelings and their past trauma. They heal and grieve together, rekindling the love that never faded between them. I really enjoy this series; I love the sense of brotherhood. It’s fast-paced and easy to read in one sitting, with just the right mix of spice, suspense, and drama. I can't wait for the next book in the series to see what happens next!

4.25 This story was short but was packed with emotions! I have really enjoyed the Outlaw Royales MC series, but this one was definitely my favourite so far. It took us on a journey of club business, second chances, and a bit of action/suspense to make this a captivating short story. King was such a heartfelt character, and I could feel his pain and sadness grieving the loss of his son. I fell in love with how he was hard and rough when he needed to be for his club, but then soft and in his feels behind the scenes. Carmen was his comfort, the one who loved him unconditionally through it all. She was always there for support and to lend a helping hand. I look forward to getting my hands on the next story in this edgy, intense, fast paced, and spicy series!
These quick novellas in Donna's Outlaw Royales series are such perfect heart-warming reads with the rough edge of an MC backdrop. I had it read between a morning treadmill walk and a cup of coffee.
Ace of Spades was a beautiful second chance romance between club president Kingston and local librarian/community advocate Carmen.
When I found out King used to be a Marine, I literally yelled out "A MARINE!!!" like the girls during the sleepover scene in Grease 🤣 King was definitely a badass MMC but I loved how he was soft and caring with Carmen.
If you're looking for some quick, MC romance reads, definitely check out this series!
Thank you to Donna for providing this early copy to read and review!
I received an ARC for Ace of Spades. It’s the third installment of Outlaw Royals Series. ♠️
As I have said before I do not like star ratings or spice/ chili pepper ratings. If I posted/reviewed it I enjoyed myself.
This one is a shorter read, but I didn’t feel as if it jumped time too quickly. It does have some themes that could be triggering for people. Please check trigger warnings before reading.
King is an MC President. He is also a father that has lost a son far too soon. Due to this loss it impacted every relationship he has including his relationship with Carmen. Carmen is a leader in her community. Creating spaces for her community. She’s the one who got away. This is a second chance romance with a FMC that is such a nurturer.
This book dragged me through every emotion in the drawer. It starts heavy and somehow grows heavier, yet Donna’s gorgeous storytelling makes the weight feel purposeful. She guides you through King and Carmen’s path of loss, acceptance, and the quiet bravery of starting over—because their story wasn’t over, only paused.
Ace of Spades is my favorite in the series so far, a gem that keeps surprising me in all the right ways. If you want a short, devastating, and deeply healing story packed with passion, love, and stubborn hope, look no further.
Huge thanks to the wonderful Donna Costello for trusting me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Ace of spades a is an amazing story about second chance romance with a club president and local librarian. This book is beautifully written and touches on tough subjects such as grieving father. There are other representations such as dyslexia and sign language which was amazing because I haven’t read many books with those representations. I love the tropes in this book from forced proximity (only one room left) to exes to lovers. This novella had me from page one and I couldn’t put it down. I loved the characters and I highly recommend you reading this book!
Donna Costellos Outlaw Series has been amazing so far and I look forward to read the other books. These stories are heartwarming with a side of rough and I have loved the characters that we have met so far in this series.
Where do I start I loved this book. This is the perfect blend of raw emotional read that has you gripped. I was hanging on by a thread with this one not sure on which way things were going to go King my heart hurt for him For all he has been through The love he left behind
Carmen omg this character is amazing for all that she does she still thinks of others and of him When things are messed up he’s what she’s thinking of and protecting
These are such nice novellas. The author really shoves a ton into them. This one is a little darker than the previous two, and definitely pulled at my heartstrings more. They are good enough I’m always like dang why isn’t this a full length book?! Lol. Great easy, and quick read!
This contemporary romance is book 3 in the Outlaw Royales Motorcycle Club Series. The romance in this book is a second chance romance. There is some open door spice. After a tragedy, Kingston and Carmen’s relationship ended. Now life has thrown them back into each other’s paths.
This is a good novella if you are looking for a quick read. There is drama there is love there is spice. What more could you want from a motorcycle romance. This is the 3rd in the series so far enjoying the series as it progresses. Abit of some heavier topics in this one regarding his previous family but not overly detailed which is good.
I received this book free from the author and this is my honest review.
Ace of Spades by Donna Costello is a fast, fiery, and irresistible read! Kingston and Carmen’s story is full of passion, tension, and emotion, and the action keeps you hooked from start to finish. If you love strong, independent heroines and men who know how to love and protect, this insta-love romance will not disappoint. I’m thrilled this book is finally out — now everyone can enjoy this fantastic indie author!
These books are so short your finished before you learned everyone’s name. This is a 2nd chance love when King lost his son he was torn apart and needed to get away from everything familiar but the time has come. Carmen and King are finally able to admit the feelings never went away and they want to start again. This time they are both wanting it to work.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Hearing impairment is represented so well in this short book. I love the way the MC is for the community and shies away from illegal activities. Unfortunately, off page death of a child is also spoken of. I love how it was handled. People had to grieve in their own ways. There is a lot of love, support and coming together in this short book. It’s a second chance for the two main characters. I love this series. On to the next book. I would definitely recommend this quick read.
This is the third book in the series, and it covers King and Carmen's love story. The road between them hasn't been easy due to grief. King falling into the depths due to loss pushes Carmen away, but he has never stopped loving her. When they meet up again, this time, he is not walking away; this time, if she'll have him, he is keeping her.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
this book is about King and Carmen. who doesn't love a second chance mc trope. King is president of the club and as tough as nails but under all that has the biggest heart which you get to see in this book. I think it's Carmen that brings out this side of him.
this is a short spicy read and I think King is definitely my favourite
This is book 3 of the Outlaw Royales Series and it's a great read like all the others. Strong MMC and FMC, great storyline that brings all the feels. It's a quick read filled with heart, heat and a very happy ending. Grab it...you won't regret it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶
Again Donna does it again. She brings the heat with this spicy second chance romance. Where the spice was spicy but the plot had you from the moment you started reading. For a novella, the action is there with King and Carmen’s story definitely hits you in the feels.
King and Carmen used to be so close, but after a heartbreaking loss drove him away, they meet again and realize their feelings have not changed at all. A bit of drama and sadness and spice rolled into one novella. This was my favorite of the trilogy!
This was such a sweet but pull at the heart strings read. For a brief moment, Donna had me thinking in one of the chapters and I started bawling like a baby until I read a little farther and was like oh you sneaky girl. I received a complimentary ARC from the author for a fair and honest review
Ace Of Spades is book 3 in Outlaw Royales MC series. This is King and Carmen's short read and it pulls you in quickly and keeps you glued to the pages until the end. I'm excited to see more from this series of shorts.
Carmen and Kingston are a good match ! She knew him before and after his son died. It just took him a few years to get his head in the right place. Good characters and a decent storyline.
