Hearts of Hanukkah

Rate this book
A star-crossed love. A menorah missing for 74 years. A family torn apart during Hanukkah / Chanukah.

In the sweet romance, HEARTS OF HANUKKAH, a journey of hearts during the season of light begins with a request for a mitzvah--a good deed.

When ninety-one-year-old Moshe asks his adult grandson, Benjamin, for a complicated mitzvah, it throws the family's Hanukkah plans for a loop. Moshe's secret, long-lost wartime sweetheart has found him through the Internet! Now she wants to see him again, as soon as possible. Benjamin's wife isn't happy that his grandfather can't wait until after Hanukkah, but time is of the essence, after all, he isn't getting any younger either.

When Benjamin and his grandfather set out on a road trip in a blizzard to reunite Moshe with his long-lost Sarah, the miles turn into an odyssey of truth, love, hope, forgiveness, pain, and joy. Moshe has chosen Benjamin for this mitzvah for a very special reason. He's an author, and Moshe wants him to write the love story of himself and Sarah, so he can read it to her when they reunite. But is Benjamin really up to the task?

It will be a true labor of love to write the harrowing story of this beloved couple who was torn apart by a horrific war and separated for more than seven decades. And Benjamin must also get Moshe to Sarah before it is too late. No one in the family will ever be the same again, from the oldest to the youngest.

Please join the Goldblum family for an incredible Hanukkah story that is filled with adventure, forgiveness, the struggle to right wrongs, a little humor, and above all, one incredible love story that transcends the years.

HEARTS OF HANUKKAH is a rich and unforgettable full-length (40,000+ words) Jewish romance novel set during the feast of lights.

This was quite a short story and I did enjoy it. Although written from the perspective of a male protagonist, the sentiments of a female author shone through. I was interested in the different aspects of the Jewish religion and festivities, but sometimes I found the terminology a little strange and wondered if the author used English as her second language and the story had been translated. For example, 'returned back to Germany' and 'Tears fell from her eyes'.
All in all this was a good story, but I did want to know more, especially about Moshe and Sarah's life in the war. I'm not sure if this is in a second book.
Hearts of Hanukkah is worth reading and in fact, I've already bought Witchy Business by Eve Paludan.

Heartwarming- true love knows no boundaries!

Totally mesmerizing! This book pulls you in from the first page and doesn't let go until you finish, unable to put this down! This story is the telling of a Jewish 91 year old man named Zaydeh who requests the ultimate mitzvah of his son Benjamin on his last Hanukkah! Benjamin is asked by his father to write his story confessing his love to Sarah while taking him to see his lost first love after locating her after all of these years! This journey is the telling of a Jewish couple whose love survived the cruel prejudices of the holocaust but were separated as a result but still their love survived. Be prepared to shed a tear! So beautifully written! To me, it is one of my favorite love stories of all time and is right up there with the notebook. Way to go Eve!
