I wish this audiobook had been recorded by the same person who recorded the original series. The voices being so different really took me out of it 😕

Well that was lovely. It was great to finally hear Nick's voice and to know for sure just how much he loves Parker. I enjoyed spending a few days with Nick even if there were dubious fae and exploding people. It sure sounded messy. I really hope this won't be the last story in this universe as I'm really going to miss these guys.

It's been a while since I read the main series, but I could imagine myself back in the world very easily.
Very entertaining book. A bit messy, but that made it so great!

excellent work, exciting and satisfying

Nick’s No Good Very Bad Day is a very great novel in the San Amaro Investigations series by Kai Butler. It follows on the last novel,Cypress Ashes, the Sun God battles and its ramifications for Nick and Parker.
This is an excellent story, we get to see where both men are after the battle at the World Tree. Nick in his professional career as a paranormal police officer and Parker as a PI and in his complicated role in the Fae community.
Butler’s ability to bring multiple perspectives, some of which are hostile towards the main characters, and still present a balance between all the different groups and their roles makes this a realistic portrayal of how the world works.
It’s a harrowing murder investigation with implications towards a bigger impact on the current situation and horrifying consequences for the community . And the dramatic scenes are emotionally charged so that we feel that impact along with the characters.
I thought it was exciting, suspense filled and the ending was very satisfying and perfect.
This was one of my favorite series of the Authors and I was so glad to see a new chapter in the universe.
Highly recommended. But also not a standalone. You need to have read the series.

The perfect long form epilogue to the San Amaro Investigations series!
I always loved this series, but this was my favorite book of all of them. I loved revisiting the world and getting a look at what Nick and Parker’s life together looked like after the conclusion of the main series. This book felt true to what their life together would have looked like: just because they resolved their old problems didn’t mean that new ones wouldn’t find them.
I also liked the switch from Parker to Nick’s point of view. It was interesting to see things through Nicks eyes. His perspective, combined with the shift into third person narrative helped this book to feel distinct from the other books. It helped to give a deeper understanding of Nick and his own insecurities.
While it wasn’t perfect (the mystery was a little clunky and I didn’t believe for an instant that an old god could get trapped in an obligation to a partial fae) it was still really enjoyable. While I prefer the original narrator for the series, this one did a really great job as well. While jarring at first, it helped the book to feel separate (yet still related) to the main series.

#7.5 novella in series (San Amaro Investigations), must be read in order. Urban fantasy. Established couple. Single POV.
When Nick gets called to a crime scene and his husband is a murder suspect, he knows he’s not going to have a good day. A big change in narration as we get a story from Nick’s POV.
In this return to Nick and Parker’s life there is a serious problem with a darker murder storyline, but from Nick’s steady perspective. It was so nice to read Nick’s love and admiration for Parker, while still enjoying Parker’s snark and there is plenty of action that kept the story moving along. With some cameos, this glimpse at Nick and Parker’s life together made me a bit sentimental as I could read many more stories with them as they are a favorite all time couple of mine. Overall, this was entertaining with humor and adventure showing Nick and Parker as steady together as ever.

Nice addition to San Amaro series
I’ve enjoyed the series of books and this was a nice little addition to the pantheon. I would absolutely read the first set of books for Santa Amaro before you read this or you will have no idea what’s going on.
I love that we got Nick’s perspective, but it felt cramped and condensed. I know this wasn’t a Novella length story but I would’ve loved to have had more mystery and more of Nick’s power coming through. I realize it almost can’t be helped because of how powerful his husband Parker is, but it still felt like a Parker story and not necessarily a Nick story. It’s still a great addition, but I couldn’t give it five stars because it just felt a little incomplete.

If you have read book 1 to 7 in this series, then you really shouldn't miss this book because:
1) After seven books from Parker's POV, you really need Nick's POV.
2) You need a glimpse into how Parker and Nick live life after the finale.
3) You need to see that life still challenges them despite leveling up through seven books.
My grumbles:
No parental units appeared in this book. I would really like to see Parker and the Kings on-page in this new version of San Amaro.

The book is good, on pair with the series, which is wonderful.
The narrator would be great but after so many books with the previous one, who did an excellent job giving life to every single character, it just sounds off.
Especially Parker who seems a bit more dumb and whiny, less snarky.

Low four stars but just squeaks in because I love how Butler writes her lore, which is honestly so much more interesting than her romance (which is cute and fun, but the Sun and Darkness are so much better)

Another huge win for Kai Butler! People are exploding and it’s up to Nick and Parker to figure out how and why.

A novella continuing the adventures of Nick and Parker… I love this series, and this addition did not disappoint. Told mostly from Nick’s POV, we learn a little more about how Nick operates and how Parker has influenced him.
