Serpentine Sorcery and Magical Machinations!

I'm not sure how to review this one. Almost all of it is a spoiler. Broad strokes. Honestly I'm having such a good time with these every time that I'm running out of exciting blurbs and zingy proclamations of amazement. Unlike my own limitations, this comic is still cruising at a high, this episode progressing directly from the sorcerous machinations of the last, where Conan was enslaved to fight in an arena for an ambitious witch woman. Now Zula and Conan are teaming up to challenge the evil forces at hand.
And Conan gets to wear a pretty cool new outfit this time, I must say.
There are some interesting twists and lots of weird magic going on, but I won't let anything out of the bag. Just read it, read and buy more so I can continue to read and buy more. That's how this works. Then I can get the compiled version, and one day the legendary omnibus. Bring on part three! For all the great new novels that get a talented audiobook recording, I feel like tip of the spear Zub deserves a similar treatment some day, a novelization of some of his original tales, including his short prose story he did. He does get great artists for his work. So far nothing has disappointed. This far in, that's both impressive and still promising.
Keep calm and Conan!

"A Nest of Serpents, Part 3: Power and Influence", September 2025

"Magic always sets Conan on edge, and illusions doubly so."

Infiltration. Thralls. Enchantments. The corrupt powers have taken notice of each other which means more cogs for the machinations of Evil. There are at least two different ways to fight: by culling the weak and/or leaving them to their own demise while proclaiming the strength of the warrior or by honoring your word and using your strength to defend the weak. Which will clash more, the Corrupt or the Strong? While the former flexes much in the fluidity of their identity, the latter stands firm in their Crom-given might, yet either way, when the ambitious are woke, they gather the mob to hunt down the Just.

Grim Jim is an artist of words that keeps it interesting. From Ferocious Fernando, the artisan's stall leaves a lasting image that piques my interest in such macabre handlings, while the inner sanctum of the arch-mage's throne room showcases dark magical wonder.

Part III of a Nest of Serpents. This installment is entitled Power and Influence. This issue builds tension as Conan and Zula seek to discover the full scope of the plans being laid by the sorcerers of Stygia. There is a brief, violent altercation as they travel the streets of Keshatta. But this issue is more about intrigue and mystery. The issue ends with a cliffhanger.

Jeffrey Shanks provides a second essay on the history of Stygia.
