Note: Christmas with Jacky Waterman is a 5000-word short story, a quick set-up story for a new series coming soon. This sweet fantasy takes less than an hour to read, so you can enjoy a quick escape with your coffee, over lunch, or before you fall asleep.
Ten years ago, Sirena left her family, her way of life, and her crown. Now, she wants to go back. But what if the prince is still waiting for her?
The king dispatched him to bring her home, but J.W. didn’t plan to fall for her. If he lets her go, it might start a war. If she returns home, though, she might start one.
Reader Profile: First and foremost, I am a reader. From the moment I could hold a book, I've been fascinated with the written word. I enjoy almost everything, but lean toward romantic-suspense and magical realism. If you're looking for poor reviews, you won't find them here. The reason...life's too short to read bad books. If a book isn't at least three stars halfway through, I stop reading, and therefore, don't feel as though I have the right to review it. That's my policy! Please don't send me requests, though. If you are one of my cyber friends, I will eventually find you. :)
Author Profile: I write stories that overflow with romance, mystery, suspense, a hint of paranormal sometimes, and of course, tragedy. After all, what would a great story be without a tragic event setting the stage? All of my novels are sensual but not erotic, gripping but not graphic, and will hopefully make you cry, laugh, love, and hope.

This sparkling, lighthearted short story is about fairy-tale boy meets girl with a twist. It was totally awesome and I certainly hope the author does as she says and writes a series based on this setting and story!!
There may be times when the decisions you face don't seem to have any good outcomes, but there's always a silver lining if you look for it in Carmen DeSousa's Christmas with Jacky Waterman (A Short Story).
Following a man she loved to New York while also running away from a betrothal to an unsavory prince, Sirena has spent the last ten years away from her rather unique home life, her family, and her crown. On a trip to Fisher Island and with a deadline upon her to either return home or stay another ten years, she meets J.W., but she didn't know that he was sent by her father, the king, to bring her home. With the fate of their home balancing on the perilous brink of war, the decisions they make will have a lasting impact, both personally and for the kingdom.
A light, cutesy, and entertaining read, this short story quickly sets up the scene for a larger tale yet to come. Beginning to establish the two characters and the world they come from, as well as the rules that govern their fantastic abilities to reside both underwater and on land, the narrative crafts an intriguing, if generally familiar, story. The romance element was rushed in this brief story to the point of essentially screaming THIS IS THE MEET-CUTE OF GRAND IF COINCIDENTAL PROPORTIONS, but given the direct, to-the-point nature of the writing and the limited space to develop it out, not to mention the other supernatural elements that were merely cursorily explored, it was adequate for piquing interest in how their relationship might grow in subsequent tales of their adventures and endeavors to save the kingdom.
This short novella is a romantic fantasy that will lead to a series. Sirena is a mysterious young lady who has arrived on Fisher Island to enjoy her last week of freedom. The mysterious and beautiful young girl has fled New York. We learn that her father is searching for her. A young man named J.W. has been dispatched by her father to bring her home, but J.W. instantly falls in love with her. Why is her father so intent on finding Sirena? Who is she and where does she really live?
Well-written, fast-moving plot with a touch of fantasy and the paranormal will encourage you to follow the series. Highly recommended
