Very intriguing book. Teresa works as an intern at the Danville, IL police department where she is brutally sexually assaulted in the station basement by the Chief of Police Witherspoon and other crooked officers. Her former fiance, Black Love, comes to town reassigned as the county ADA and will not leave until he finds and kills each suspect. Justice will be served.

I gave this novel a 5***** rating. I'm about to read Cannibal N the City (Black Love 2) next.

Well....DAMN! Where do I start?!

This book was definitely not what I expected. It was like a movie with a wild, twisted, tragic plot full of crooked cops and vigilante attorneys.

I couldn't stop shouting, "Oh my GOD," as I read page after page in one sitting. The book contains quite a few violent scenes, including one involving rape, so do be aware of that....I wasn't, so it definitely caught me unawares.

I enjoyed the character development as well as the author's descriptive prose.

I'd recommend this book, if you're looking for something a little different and edgy.

It has been a long time since I posted a review. But that hadn't stopped me from reading. I begin with a review of Piece Keeper. This book is definitely not for those who have a weak heart.

The book deals with a serious subject and hence is dark. It is about a rape, rather gangrape of a young intern. Her personal space and dignity is violated when she is not in her senses. To add to her woes the entire investigation is done by her ex-lover. Sure its not a happy scenario and does deserve five stars for the seriousness of the subject. However, there were a few issues which I felt affected my rating.

First of all, hats off to the writer for a story concept that revolves around an issue that plagues the world in general and women in particular. Rape is not only a heinous crime, it shakes the very belief of goodness in humanity. But what shook me was the graphic details and the violence. The description was too intense for me. Hence, the language leaves no gory details to imagination. I won't blame the author because every storyteller has a set idea when it comes to narration. What didnt work for me would probably work for somebody else. The imageries are too vivid. In case the book does get made into a motion picture it might need to get toned down a bit as far as the language and descriptions is concerned.

What stood apart was a name Black Love. He was the male protagonist. Maybe there is a symbolic meaning attached for choosing such a name but to be honest I failed as a reader to comprehend the same. Also, I felt there was a subtle disconnect between the characters.

To sum up, the story is really likeable for its choice of a sensitive theme. However, the graphic description and violence were nit my cup of tea. It made me cringe and squirm. This book and its story are meant for those with strong hearts.

P.S - A powerful story no doubt, this review is my honest opinion after reading it.

I recently read Piece Keeper and let me just say, I had no idea that I liked this type of genre until I started reading some of Author Antwan Floyd's novels. The vivid and graphic scene that he builds in your mind, in the beginning of the book, may be triggering for some, but it's so powerful that I felt my heart break into pieces for Teresa. No worries because her ryde or dye ex fiance, Black Love, drops everything, including his current fiance, to get to Teresa and down to the bottom of what happened and whose responsible. Being a detective, Black Love tries to do everything by the book when it comes to serving justice in this matter. It doesn't work out for him, so he is forced to take matters into his own hands, make some tough decisions, and take some adverse measures. Regardless of his choices, I was continuously cheering him on. He went to war for his woman, even if Teresa was his ex, it was apparent that they both had a deep unconditional love for each other. It's a great read that will not disappoint.

Black Love

Black Love is his name. Coming to the aid of his ex Teresa that he remained friends with is what he does. Black is a lawyer from Chicago he took a leave to work in Danville after Teresa was basically terrorized at her job by dirty cops. Not knowing who he could trust will make it difficult for him to solve the case. No one will talk and the ones that do ends up being taken care of.
Teresa eventually falls for James but he's not who she think he is. James is a officer but he has done things that put him in the bad cops category.
Black has sho much going on not only looking out for Teresa but his girlfriend Morena shows up. Morena thinks that Black still has a thing for Teresa. With So much going on and no one to help him Black does what he needs to do to get the job done. There's drama, murder, and love. It's a good read. Would have love for it to end different but i live with the way that it did.

This is my first read by this author and I will say that this story was impressive. At times I felt as if I was actually in the story visualizing what was happening. For this author to write about a rape case is not an easy feat and I will say he did an good job. When a victim has gone through a situation as this at times their stories are hard for people to believe, however in this story Black Love believed what happened to the person who was suppose to have married at one time. I will not put too much into this review to give anything away, but if you are a reader who enjoyed a good suspense you may want to read this book. I look forward to reading more of this authors work. Some grammatical errors, but this did not take away from the story.

This book talks about the rape of a black police intern (Teresa) in a town that is mostly white and also a police force that is also mostly white. Wow! Right. This is the first book of the Black Love series. Black love is the name of a D.A in Chicago. He is in the small town of Danville to help find the man that raped this ex fiancé (Teresa). But when he gets there the case takes a turn for the worse. This is not the type of book that I normally read but I love to read fresh and new books. This was my first book by this author but it will not be my last( i’m downloading book 2 as soon as I post this).

This is my inaugural experience with this author's work, and I must admit, I found the story quite impressive. There were moments when I felt fully immersed, as if I were a part of the narrative alongside the characters. Tackling a delicate subject like rape requires finesse, and the author handled it brilliantly.
This was an excellent book to read, quite different from my usual street literature. It was exceptionally well-written, with a gripping storyline that keeps you engaged throughout. It showcases the best of black fiction.
This book worth my time! I am excited to read and more from Author Antwan!

Piece Keeper

This was was first read by Antwan and I didn't want it to end. You never know what to expect when the ones that are supposed to protect are actually corrupt. James was a little suspect from the beginning with his jealousy. He went overboard with a few things and I was surprised at what his role really was. Teresa found herself in an awkward position but I was glad Morena found a way to get her to tell her story. Black really went above and beyond to make sure Teresa got the justice she deserved after everything she encountered. I couldn't believe the officers would go through so many levels just to make Teresa out to be a liar. Black was a bit confused once Morena showed up but it was refreshing knowing he wouldn't give up on Teresa. Old man Brown was comical and even though he talked in circles he did help Black out some. Learning just how the team was willing to go about things to ensure their innocence as well as doing the opposite of the intended purpose pissed me off. The Piece Keeper definitely did what was necessary to get rid of those causing problems. I liked the short amount of time Whip was in the story and can't wait to learn more about her. I really wished Teresa had figured out her dream to realize James wasn't who he said he was. I truly can't wait to read more from Mr. Floyd. #KNL

I downloaded Piece Keeper as a free book from Amazon. While I found it hard to relate to the black-urban slang and found portions of the book just plain strange; when the last page was turned, I was totally sucked in to the pulp fiction feel of the novel and it's gritty, somewhat exaggerated aspects (after all, I can't think of anyone I know with a crime scene clean up crew on speed dial).

A great story about police corruption and moral ambiguity. This is a book where even the good guys are bad, it's a matter of degree and intent. Fans of dark urban reads will love this book, the rest of us won't be quite as sure, but will find themselves pulled into an excellent storyline.

Urban Novel with a Twist

This was a really good read. Love the mystery twist. Like Mr. Floyd's writing style. Black is a man one could say wears different hats depending on who he was dealing with...he knows the streets and could run in them but instead opts out of that life at an early age and uses what he knows to stands out in his role as DA . Like Floyd exposes you to each character giving just enough about them and the issue at hand where you could relate to theirs emotions and thoughts.

Piece Keeper: A Black Love Detective Story Book # 1 is a romantic crime about friendship, love, and resilience. It explores the complex relationships between people during tough times and shows how having connections can be both sources of strengths and challenges. The bond between the main characters Theresa, Morena, and Black was especially interesting, offering insight into human connections during times of crisis. The story features well-developed characters and deeply explores connections that bring people together.

Refreshing

I loved this book. It is not the usual urban fiction. There is no drug dealers or baby mama drama. I love a good mystery and this one was exceptional. It's great reading about successful black people for a change. The plot was entertaining as well as the characters. I highly recommend this book. #KNL

Wow great

First book I've read by this author but won't be my last. Great read but was mad at the ending wanted Black and Teresa to get it together and get back together. Morena was ok but felt that Black should have been with Teresa, loved how to came to her rescue after she was raped. Plot was entertaining and made you want to read and see what happen. Great job Antwan Floyd Sr. #KNL
