Hot cowboys, suspense that will leave you reeling, and romance that will last the ages: what more can you ask for? This fast paced and suspenseful novel had me hooked from cover to cover. Daniels has created an in-depth and complex novel that left me guessing throughout. She also left me guessing at the end. I love how the overarching plot of the series weaves together with the plot of this novel itself.

The intertwining lives of the characters lead to a complex storyline that kept me on the edge of my seat. I was instantly drawn to Jace, the way he weighs the pros & cons & goes with his gut. Bo’s need to prove herself, even if only to herself, made her an individual that I could easily identify with. The supporting cast also plays major roles in the tale. The well rounded development of these individuals creates a realistic and lifelike backdrop for the story and really drew me in.

Once again Daniels has created a western romantic suspense that I will never forget. This is the type of novel that when you finish it you just hold it to your heart for a minute and smile.

Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

Looking for some Cowboy Suspense? It's a genre all it's own. It offers that western charm, hometown feeling along with a dose of total suspense and B.J. Daniels writes it like no one else.

Lone Rider is book 2 of her Montana Hamiltons Series, it's a spin off from her Beartooth Mountain Series and that's where I fell in love Ms. Daniels. In Lone Rider we see another Hamilton daughter find her way to love.

After years of thinking her mother was dead, Bo Hamilton is as shocked as the rest of her family to discover that she's alive. How can one woman disappear for all of those years? Where has she been and what has she been up to? No one knows not even her mother. Watching her family fall apart is hard enough but Bo has problems of her own. She is running the foundation named for her mother and money is missing. An independent auditor has been called in but Bo needs some time to deal. So off to the mountains she loves she goes. Trying to give herself some time to clear her head and be ready for whatever she learns. But no matter how much you know the mountains, danger always lurks and for Bo, danger comes in the form of an escaped convict.

Jace Calder loved Bo Hamilton once but she wasn't ready to return that love. Even though their relationship ended, badly, Jace appreciates the generosity of Bo's heart. She has even given his sister a chance. So when he discovers that she is missing he's the first to offer to go looking. What he discovers sends chills.

Once again Ms. Daniels brings it! What an awesome story.. A woman whose entire life is in shambles, her mother has returned, her father is crumbling, her career is on the brink of disaster and her love life?? Yeah, non existent. And Ms. Daniels takes all of those components and tosses in an escaped serial killer and a struggle for life. This book seethes passion. The tension is so thick, yep you can cut it with a knife. Just brilliant.

Ms. Daniels writes a complete story and yet we know there is more to come. When put together with Wild Horses, we have this huge tapestry being created. Each story adds threads to the over all arc. The over all arc doesn't take from the story, you can enjoy it for exactly what it is but the power that comes with combining them.. wonderful!!

Lone Rider is one of those books that will remain on my favorites shelf for a long time.

Fantastic second book in the series. Like the first (Wild Horses), I was hooked from the beginning, anxious to see what was going to happen next. In this one, Bo Hamilton heads off by herself for a couple days in the mountains, trying to clear her head. She heads up the family charitable foundation and has discovered that money is missing. She's called an auditor, but is sick to think that one of her employees is stealing from the company. On the morning she's headed back home, she stumbles across an escaped murderer who takes her captive.

Emily Calder is one of Bo's employees and when Bo doesn't show up for work, and no one has seen her, she goes to her brother for help finding her. Jace is reluctant, as he and Bo have a troubled history, but he feels like he owes the woman for giving his sister a job. He's not sure whether she's innocent or not, but either way, he'll bring her back. But the longer it takes him to find her, the more he gets a feeling that something really bad is going on.

The sections that dealt with Bo's captivity and Jace's search for her were intense. The murderer's swings between threatening rages and plans to keep Bo as a long-term "mate" were really creepy. Bo never knew which one she would be dealing with, or what would set him off. I was impressed with the way she tried to stay calm and alert for a chance to escape. I was a bit disappointed in Jace's initial belief that Bo could be guilty of stealing the money, but that was mostly his lingering bitterness over their breakup. I liked the fact that he didn't give up looking for her. Getting her away from the killer wasn't easy, but he did it. Unfortunately, he also knew that he couldn't count on the man giving up. Their escape was complicated by an approaching storm, that not only slowed them down but also kept a search party from being able to look for them. I liked seeing the way that Jace's protectiveness came out, and how he tried to take care of Bo. While they were holed up waiting out the storm, they had a chance to talk some and realize that the feelings they had for each other were still there. But he was wary of trusting those feelings, fearing that it was only because of the danger they were in. Once the storm had passed, they had hopes of being able to make it out, until an encounter with a grizzly bear created still more complications. Then Bo did something really stupid and nearly got herself killed in the final confrontation with the killer and his father. If it hadn't been for Jace overcoming his own injuries, it could have ended very badly for them both. After their rescue, they had a chance to spend time together and get to know each other again. I loved seeing their love grow stronger as they finally put their past troubles behind them. Jace's big moment at the end was so sweet and romantic, there was no doubt about Bo's reaction.

Interspersed among the sections featuring Bo and Jace, were those dealing with her father, her mother, her mother's protector (Russell), and Jace's sister. In the previous book, Bo's mother who had been believed dead after driving her car into the river and being washed away, suddenly reappeared. However, she is suffering from amnesia and doesn't know where she's been for the last twenty-two years. Bo's father, Buckmaster, is running for president and dealing with her and his current wife is creating untold headaches for him. He still has feelings for her, but his current wife is suspicious of Sarah's untimely reappearance. Sarah is having flashes of memories that have her worried that something is very wrong. Meanwhile, Russell believes that Buck knows far more about Sarah's disappearance than he has said and is determined to prove it, and has some pretty outlandish theories. At the same time, Sheriff Frank Curry is trying to investigate and has come across some rather troubling evidence. He's not sure what it all means, but his gut is telling him that there is something strange going on. Nothing is resolved by the end of the book, so I expect more to be revealed in the next. I also expect that the mystery won't be entirely revealed until the last book in the series.

On a somewhat happier note, Jace's sister finally has something good to look forward to. After troubled teen years where she ended up with jail time and an out-of-wedlock child, she is getting her life back on track. She has a good job working for Bo and a nice home for herself and her daughter. And to make things even better, there is a very nice man who is showing a romantic interest in her. I loved seeing the way that Alex was looking out for her, and wasn't put off by her past. It was great to see how he was there to protect her when that past caused problems. It looks like something is finally going right for her, and I hope to see more of her in the future.

There's also some foreshadowing of the next book in the series with the appearance of a couple of journalists, one of whom ends up dead under suspicious circumstances. I'll be interested to see if my suspicions about those circumstances are correct.

Autry's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

This novel focuses one four sets of couples to start with and really only brings closure to one couple and leaves the other three couples hanging in the balance. Each relationship seemed to be built upon mistrust, hurt, greed or manipulation. I do understand in suspenseful novels there will be elements that cause mistrust and create tension, however to have all the characters so entrenched with those qualities was a bit too much.

I can honestly say I did not connect with any of the characters, they felt one-dimensional. The dialogue between characters was good; the tone matched the emotion at the time. Ms. Daniels did have one character that had me on the fence, but her story is continuing on in the next installment. The men seemed to be easily swayed by the females in each relationship; I never felt they really stuck up for themselves. The females are pushy, almost in an annoying way.

I would really like to say that I enjoyed this book, and could strongly recommend it to a reader. But, I don’t feel I would be doing an honest review, if I printed that. I started to read Lone Rider and stopped a couple of times because it did not hold my interest. I did finish it hoping to find a redeeming quality hiding among the pages. I have read Ms. Daniels work before and felt it was interesting; intriguing with a good plot and character development but Lone Rider fell short.

I really enjoy the writings of B.J. Daniels. She never disappoints. Lone Rider has realistic suspense and a sweet, second chance, romance. Not to mention a cast of intriguing characters and an ongoing mystery. Romantic-suspense, cowboy style.

For book #2 in The Montana Hamiltons we have the mysterious disappearance of Bo Hamilton, daughter #3, and lots of money from the Sarah Hamilton Foundation she runs. Emily Calder, an employee at the foundation, has a daughter and a past as a wild child with a prison record. Jace Calder is an old flame od Bo's and when his sister, Emily, asks him to find Bo, he volunteers to track her down in the Crazies, where she took off for on horseback. Bo, being a good citizen, gets herself caught up in every woman's worst nightmare.

Sarah Hamilton has returned from the dead and tells everyone she has no memory of the 22 years she has been away. The sheriff and his deputy are beginning to put some pieces together, but I think this is going to arc over the series only to be resolved in the last book.

Once again BJ Daniels has proven herself as my ultimate in Romantic suspense. I love the twists and turns that this story takes. This second book in the Montana Hamiltons series is a joy to read from start to finish. The characters have such depth and bring so much emotion they jump off the page. Do not miss this series and any other book by Ms. Daniels, she keeps me up late at night!!!

A storm is brewing in the mountains. Will Jace find Bo in time before she’s lost forever? Will search and rescue help or hinder his success? Can anyone keep presidential hopeful Buck from racing up the mountain himself to find his missing daughter? This and so much more will keep you turning the pages.

The Hamilton family suspense continues when Bo, the daughter of presidential candidate Senator Buck Hamilton, rides by horseback into the Crazy Mountains for a few days to clear her head. The foundation she runs is missing a large amount of money, and even though she was the one to call in an auditor to find the misplaced funds, Bo assumes everyone will hold her responsible. She comes across an unattended campfire in the wilderness on her way home and is concerned about the fire spreading. Stopping to investigate, Bo is taken captive by an escaped convict and forced to go further up into the mountains with him.

Jace Calder has stayed away from Bo since she broke his heart five years ago. But his sister, Emily, is concerned about her boss and she knows Jace is the best tracker for the job. Jace wants to find Bo so no one blames his sister for the missing money. The further he gets into the mountains, the more on edge Jace becomes because he senses there’s something very wrong about this whole situation.

The suspense builds throughout this novel while the reader is given snippets of the characters’ lives as they happen. LONE RIDER is more suspense than romance, even though there are several love stories developing within the novel. I got so wrapped up in the suspense and various characters that by the time the lead couple was reaching their happy-ever-after, I wasn’t ready for it. Theirs is a good love story but I wanted to see more of them together before their commitment.

I’m not really sure how I feel about this book. There were a few sections that felt a bit choppy but that’s actually a technique I notice consistently within suspense stories in general that seems off to me. I really enjoyed this book until the epilogue. I guess I expected a resolution to the mysteries that were building throughout the book by the end of the novel. When they weren’t resolved, and I realized I was reading the last few pages, I was temporarily mad at the book because I was instantly frustrated and wanted answers. I thought I missed something and went back to re-read the last few chapters. There was more suspense than romantic moments, as well as foreshadowing for the next novel, so maybe that’s why I feel that the romance was downplayed. I don’t read that many suspense series so I can’t say whether this is normal or not. I just know that it stunned me when I got to the epilogue and realized the book was ending and I wasn’t ready.

The fact that I was riveted until the epilogue tells a lot about B.J. Daniels’ keen ability to write engrossing suspense. She had me so locked in that I didn’t realize the book was almost finished until there were only a few pages left.

This is the style of series that can do one of two things to its fans. It can create such anticipation that the reader misses key points in their rush to finish and then are left feeling that the romance was shortchanged. Or, it can instigate a back-to-back series reading frenzy each time a new book comes out. I was initially on the frustrated end of the spectrum because I forgot key points from the first book by the time I read this one and now I’m realizing that the same thing will happen with the next book. If you’re a re-reader, then you’ll love this series because it begs to be re-read so that you don’t miss anything in the densely layered plot. For me, I’m not sure I can continue and further aggravate my poor memory because I just don’t usually take the time to re-read.

That makes me sad because I really enjoyed the first book and had such hope for this series. I love the Montana setting and the mountains everyone refers to as the Crazies. In actuality, the Crazies go well with the craziness that happens to this poor family. I can’t help but think that the senator’s presidential race may not recover from all the chaos in his family. I want to know how it all ends but my lack of memory where series details are concerned may keep me from continuing. I wish I was a different type of reader but I have to face reality. I read for the joy of it and when a book is still frustrating me several days later, I have to wonder why I’m allowing that to happen. Am I that connected to the characters that I can’t let go? Probably. I’ll be really curious to see if anyone else is affected in the same way as me and whether we’ll jump into book three of THE MONTANA HAMILTON series, LUCKY SHOT, in November 2015 with the same level of anxiety. Or, will that have worn off and we’ll be ready to dive-in again with anticipation?

This is most definitely a series that should be read in order or you will be lost due to the amount of suspense that carries from book to book. Read book one, WILD HORSES , first before reading LONE RIDER. If you really want to get the most out of this book and you have read the first book months ago, re-read it or at least part of it to familiarize yourself with the ongoing plot. I went back to the first novel after finishing this one and it would have been better to re-read book one prior to reading book two.

I’m giving LONE RIDER a 4 out of 5 rating because it had me riveted. I didn’t enjoy it as much as WILD HORSES that I rated at 4.5, which is how I came up with the rating for this book even though I wasn’t completely satisfied. Whatever frustrations I feel about how the story ended is probably my hang-up as a reader and I can’t hold the author responsible for my particular preferences. The suspense is great and the characters are well-drawn. I can’t believe I’m wishing for November in the middle of summer, but I really need to know what happens next in LUCKY SHOT!

This story was crazy packed full of povs, story arcs, and left dangling threads. Brain wiping, ex-cons, militia survivalists, presidential candidates, amnesia, conniving wives, gossipy sleuth wives, murders, second chance loves, missing foundation money, helicopter crashes, geeky baristas, and tons more that my feeble exhausted brain can't remember.

What is supposed to be the main couple (I guess?!?) has the hero going up to the mountains to find his ex-girlfriend that was supposed to be back from a camping trip. The heroine was taken captive by a crazy escaped convict, not on the run with her foundation's money as the hero thinks. Her mother apparently showed up a few weeks ago after having disappeared 22yrs ago (they thought she drowned herself) but can't remember the last 22 yrs of her life. The guy who found her and she is staying with, thinks her husband, who is running for President of the United States, had her brain wiped because she has secrets on him. The husband seems to still have feelings for the disappearing wife but his current wife does a lot of shady dealings and seems to have a shady background herself. There's a sheriff trying to make sense of it all (me too, buddy!) and the hero's sister learning to date nice men while possibly dealing with a stalker sent by her jailed ex-boyfriend who thinks her daughter is his, it's not, it's a mystery upstanding mans. None of the storylines I mentioned get a conclusion, except our hero and heroine decide to rekindle their romance, everything else must continue into the next book. One can only hope the brainwiping is explained there.

I have probably not relayed anything that makes sense and there is probably many more storylines (Wait, I almost forgot! The heroine's mother has a tattoo on her butt, she didn't know anything about it, and it's thought to be a pendulum and related to the occult! So add possible occult shenanigans to the fray) I've forgotten. It was insane. I'd consider this zero to very minimal romance, way more suspense/mystery. I'd also highly suggest reading the first in the series so you don't feel as lost as I was. This was a speedy berserk train ride, y'all.

Another great page turner from BJ Daniels!

I know the formula for a Romantic Suspense book, so I pretty much know how it is going to end before I even start reading it. It’s the journey that is so much fun and BJ Daniels makes the journey wonderful. Every book I get, I tell myself that I will read it slowly and savor every written word, but then I get caught up in the stories being told (always multiple stories going on that come together in the end) and I find myself turning page after page until I finish the entire book. And I’m always sad when it’s done because now I have to wait to continue the Montana Hamilton saga.

This is the story of Bo Hamilton. She runs the family foundation named after her once dead, now risen from the dead and returned amnesiac mother. When money comes up missing, Bo heads to the mountains to clear her head so when she meets with the auditor, she can remain calm while learning which of her employees has betrayed her trust. And then things really go downhill for Bo. Luckily for her, Jace Calder is looking for her.

Jace and Bo have history and the last person he wants to see is Bo, but his younger sister has asked and anything she wants, Jace tries to deliver to make up for having raised her poorly. He knows deep down in his heart that in spite of rumors, there is no way that Bo took the missing money, but he needs to bring her down from the Crazies for her to prove it.

Throw in snowstorms, escaped criminals and nut cases and you have a page-turner you will not want to put down! And we get to revisit some of our Hamiltons like Buckmaster (great name!) and his wife Angelina and then there is the whole arc with Sarah – the wife who returned from being dead. Wow, and what a story that will be when it all comes out!!

I’d highly recommend this book (and have) to anyone that likes stories that arc and cross with good endings, but just enough left hanging to make you have to pick up the next installment in the series

This was so good! I'm hooked in with book two, and the author has cleverly set this up so I just have to read book three. This is Bo Hamilton's story but there are other plots interwoven to make this a great page-turner. I love following this family and learning more about them with each book.

This is the second book in Montana Hamilton series and it just gets better. This is about Bo Hamilton and Jace Calder. These two share a past and when she disappears in the mountains he's the only one who can find her. This book had suspense right from the very beginning and keeps you going until the very end. I love B.J. Daniels books, she mixes romance with drama, suspense and mystery. I loved everything about this about this book, it had me on the edge of my seat the entire book and I couldn't put it down. I read this book in one sitting, I loved it that much. I can't wait to read the next book in this outstanding series.

This is book two the Montana Hamiltons series. Another of Hamilton’s daughters is in danger and an old flame goes to find her. Bo Hamilton and Jace Calder are at the heart of the story. But Bo and Jace are not the only focus in the book. Like previous series there is another mystery that is playing out a little at a time in each book. Someone has returned 22 years after everyone thought she was dead. There is also danger for Jace’s sister and there are hints about the return of Bo’s mother. This is shaping up to be another nail biter with a great cast of characters

Lone Rider was the first book I have read by B. J. Daniels. It is book 2 in The Montana Hamiltons. It was great, it will not be my last book by her. It kept me riveted from cover to cover. It has intrigue, mystery, suspense, romance. A few twists and turns I did not see coming. I never grew bored with it, a real page turner. I am looking forward to number 3, Lucky Shot but first I have to read Wild Horses, book 1.

Lone Rider by B.J. Daniels is number 2 in a series and parts of it really carried over from book 1 which left me missing some of the character development which probably occurred in the first book. I definitely wouldn't call this book a stand alone and wished the author had emphasized that this is more of a serial vs a series. There are a number of plots with most continuing into additional books. Wish that had also been in the book description. At the beginning of the book I even read the description again as the book had so much going on with other plots that I was uncertain what was the main plot for this book.

With so many plots and so much going on, the book seemed to jump from one plot to the next and all the story lines felt broken and choppy. All the plots had so much potential and B.J. Daniels writes well. I do feel that this would have worked much better if each plot had it's own book. As it is to me even though one couple gets a HEA, the book felt like a cliffhanger.

Conclusion: If you read these books, I recommend that with this B.J. Daniels series that you need to start with Book #1 and be prepared to read the whole series as there are numerous overlapping plots.

I like B.J. Daniels because she not only writes about sexy cowboys but because a lot of her novels have a suspense element that I like.

I first met the Hamilton’s in Wild Horses and this one is about Bo Hamilton. Some interesting things happened in Wild Horses that carries over into Lone Rider, but I won’t mention them. It kind of effects the foundation that is in her mothers name and now money is missing. Bo has no idea where it as went, but she has an appointment to meet with an auditor. Everyone is going to think she took the money, but she doesn’t need it as she is Senator Buckmaster Hamilton’s daughter. She does know that this could be a horrible scandal for her father who is trying to make a run for President.

Jace Calder has had his heart broken by Bo Hamilton, so when his sister comes to him telling him that she is missing he doesn’t want to help at first. Why should he care if she has gone missing but his sister works for her and could be effected by things and she has had a rough time of things. He also knows that there is know way that Bo would run off with the missing money so something must have happened.

A killer is on the loose up in the crazies where Bo is and he has found her and isn’t not going to let her go. Jace will have to rescue her and find a way to get away from him. They could both be in for a bumpy ride.

Lone Rider is good romantic suspense with a sexy cowboy at it’s center. I really love both Bo and Jace and felt they made a great couple. Like I said in the first books review this is a spin off series from the Beartooth, Montana series but it makes for a good series on it’s own. I just started listening to the Beartooth, Montana series myself as I wanted to after reading Wild Horses earlier this year.

I love the secondary characters and I feel really sorry for the things that Buckmaster is going through with his race to the Presidency. With the things from the last book to the things in this book, but he is a very strong man. I also loved Emily which is Jace’s sister, she has had a hard time of it and is turning her life around.

I can’t wait for Lucky Shot to come out later this year as I really have enjoyed this series. If you love sexy cowboys, and suspenseful romances then you need to give this series a try!

This book was pretty good grabbing you from the first page until the very end. Fast paced and romance that will keep you wanting the fan. You can't beat some good cowboys. Lone Rider is book 2 of her Montana Hamiltons Series, it's a spin off from her Beartooth Mountain Series.

Bo goes to the mountains to clear her head and that's when things start to snow ball. Thank god Jace is looking for her. Jace knows deep down in his heart that in spite of rumors, there is no way that Bo took the missing money, but he needs to bring her down from the Crazies for her to prove it.

A great story to fall into and this book will keep you smiling.

This book had my interest from the very beginning and the suspense kept building as I kept reading. I could feel myself up in the Crazies with Bo and Ray...praying Bo would be ok and someone would find her. And Sarah's return just keeps getting more intriguing ...has she really lost her memory for 22 years and had no clue where she has been or what she's done? BJ has done it again and I can't wait for Lucky Shot to come out to find out more! I don't know if I can wait until November! I absolutely loved this book..I couldn't put it down!

Disappointing. Daniels seems to have bought into that "cliffhanger" business a number of other authors have done to essentially force the reader to buy the next book if they want to know the outcome. This one had four separate threads -- two that it could have done without except maybe it was intended to boost the word count. And the non-resolution at the end -- well I'm glad I didn't pay for it.

ARC Review: Lone Rider by B.J. Daniels
So, I’m going to start off by acknowledging regretfully, that this is my first B.J. Daniels novel. I know! I have known of her for a long time, but admittedly, I hadn’t broken into the Western/Romantic Suspense genre until the last year or so. Therefore, I am very behind in finding the wonder that many authors provide through said genre. Without a doubt, it is regretful that this is my first novel, because I have been missing out! This novel was well-written and for the most part, I was very curious throughout, wondering what lay beyond, between the beginning and end.
I was also quite shocked by how many subplots the author put into development within this novel. There were many intricately woven stories between characters, and separate pieces of lives on display which made the writing that much more impressive. Alas, these aspects of the novel left me crippled by questions that are in need answers. Of course, this desire to discover the truth will ensure that I get my hands on the next novel in the series when it arrives. What is also quite amazing is that despite my not having read the first in this series (The Montana Hamilton’s: Wild Horses), I had no trouble catching up. Daniels was able to provide enough backstory to allow me the chance to not feel as though I could not continue on without going back to the beginning. Granted, now I want to read the first book, but in my opinion, that is a very good thing.
I loved the characters, the hero and heroine had great chemistry, which is pertinent to the stories success in any type of romance novel. Jace Calder, an interesting cowboy, with a broken heart, but one of gold, who never stopped loving Bo Hamilton, is also brave and resolute in his beliefs. Then, of course, there is Bo Hamilton: stubborn, prideful, and strong, with a will as unbreakable as iron; a well-rounded heroine to be sure. The two have been separated for many years, following her refusal to marry Jace Calder (just going to say that the twists of their former relationship are amazing once all is revealed, so sweet!). Nonetheless, when she disappears into the Crazies of Montana to mentally center herself, and doesn’t return when expected, he rides to find her.
Of course, the story is not so simple. Bo is attempting to find her inner strength, now that she has had no choice but to call in an auditor to inspect her foundation. This foundation, in which she built from the ground up, in memory of her missing mother Sarah Hamilton, is deep in debt. The problem: there is no trail to indicate who the culprit is. However, Bo finds herself in grave danger, making her prior fears and stresses pointless. She is fighting for her life. Why, you ask? Well, because there happens to be a deranged murderer hiding out in the mountains awaiting his psychopathic father’s help while on the run from the law.
Wow. Yes! The author did a fantastic job establishing the timeline and the reasoning behind the murderer, Ray Spencer, being up in the remote hills known as the Crazies. Normally, people might think some works of fiction are too far-fetched when they are supposed to be something that could be possible in reality (or at least, we would like to think so). However, the links she created to fit the setting to the characters and their struggles, is quite wonderful. Even better, is that I really felt my heart squeezing with fear for Bo, worried that she would be abused and tortured to no end.
With that said, having Jace as the hero, who initially isn’t actually going on the hunt for Bo out of concern for her, but interestingly enough for his sister Emily, really stuck with me. Emily (who by the way is my favorite character thus far), was a troubled teen, turned young woman down on her luck, after years of abuse by past relationships. She has finally fixed her life, is taking care of her young daughter, and finding out what it means to truly be independent and alive. So when the woman who is her boss also happens to be Bo Hamilton, and those that work under her are spreading rumors indicating her as the culprit (insinuating that she has run off with the money), Jace takes control in his refusal to let anyone risk his sisters new found responsibility and livelihood. To say that Jace is a great brother, and a loyal man, would be an understatement, yes? I love him! Naturally, you’ll love him more, once he starts firing off his heroics in lieu of saving Bo (oh the possibilities)!
Moving onto secondary characters, damn, there is so much to say. To make it as simple as possible, I will start off by bringing attention to the fact once more, that I cannot explain the epic intricacies between storylines. After all, turns out Sarah Hamilton, Bo’s mother and Senator Buckmaster Hamilton formerly-believed-to-be-dead-wife, is actually alive…..after 22 years! She has mysteriously came back to life, or reappeared, as you would say with no memory. Just let that sink in….. You, you’re totally thrown, right? I thought so. There is clearly something totally screwed up going on, yeah? Plus, she has unusual responses, fears, and impulses, telling us that there are some potentially dangerous falsehoods lying in wait for us to find out. Worse, the way that she came back to the small town of Beartooth would make anyone paranoid. Sarah Hamilton has dark secrets, and they involve her now remarried husband, Buckmaster Hamilton.
Then, there is the drama between Buckmaster and his current wife Angelina, who is quite the woman. Strong, determined, fierce, and slightly insidious with a dose of sneaky. Watching Angelina attempt to manipulate Buckmaster, and take control behind his back might make me cringe, but I have to admit that I admire her drive (even if I do not agree with the path she takes). I suppose Russell Murdock, the man who discovered Sarah in the woods at her unusually perfectly timed reappearance, is worth mentioning as well. I just plain feel bad for this man. He is clearly a gentleman, with a kind heart. Unfortunately, men and women of the like are taken advantage of in such situations, and he is certainly going to have his world rocked. Between Sarah Hamilton’s secrets, and his illusion of love regarding her, I am just hoping he makes it through to something better.
Finally, there is Emily Calder, the aforementioned little sister to Jace Calder. She also has her own problems. You know, falling in love for the good guy, while trying to escape the past? This type of story always works for me personally, as well as most readers, simply because we love seeing the weak turn bold, and I love being part of a second chance for a great character. Alex, the coffee shop owner who becomes part of Emily’s life after admiring her for quite some time, also potentially saves her. He is just a sweet, imaginably cute guy with nothing but good intentions, and I love the way that the author developed the beginning of her relationship with him. The way that Alex treats Emily and her daughter, made my heart melt (yeah, I am a little biased, I admit it, I love this stuff!). So, yes, I am truly hoping that the author gives Emily her own book, or novella, because I really want to read her story. I mean, come on? Crazy ex-boyfriend, currently in prison, not to mention whatever other secrets she has…..and add in a happily ever-after with the sweet down-to-earth boy amidst a dangerous scenario to overcome? Yes!
Oh man. I think that is the shortest synopsis I can create. Truly, despite the fact that the story doesn’t take place in many different settings, there is just so much going on, and I love it! The way the author brings the couples together, yet leaves so many burning questions waiting to be answered in the following books leaves a lot to the imagination. Plus, I just cannot help it, the way Jace saves Bo. The entire mountain setting from beginning to end, had shocking moments and a ton of unexpected action. Plus, Bo turns so selfless and strong, and she was already quite tough, so this aspect was just awesome. Give me another B.J. Daniels novel any day!

4 STARS

There are so many story lines that are being told in Lone Rider. Most of the different parts of the story continue on into other books. That I really wanted some more answers in this book. So I will be waiting to read more books from her in the future.

There is plenty of drama, suspense, romance. One romance I am not sure who I want to wind up together. But that story is part of a bigger story so I will have to wait for it.

Bo Hamilton runs her family charity. That is named after her deceased mother Sarah who turns up not dead with no memory of the last 22 years. She has realized that someone has stolen lots of funds from it. She has called in auditors to find out how and who did it.

Bo decides to ride and camp out in the Crazies mountain over night. Bo does not make it back to meet with the auditors.

Emily is trying to get her life back on track and loves her job with the foundation and her boss. She has plenty of body piercings, tattoos and a cute three year old.

Emily asks her brother to find Bo. He is a tracker. He also in the past had asked Bo to marry him. She has someone spying on her.

Jace Calder is a rancher and tracker. He does not think Bo took the money but he is going to find her and bring her back no matter what.

Sarah does not know where she has been for 22 years. The last thing she remembers is the birth of her twins. Why did she try and commit sucide and leave her six girls. She also thinks of herself as married but she is not. We learn some more about Sarah.

At times I think there is too many story lines going on at a time and I want more answers now.

I was given this ebook to read by Net Galley and Harlequin. In return I agreed to give honest review of Lone Rider.

B.J.'s way of writing face-paced thriller's just continues to reel me in from the first page! I always think I'm going to read her books slower so I can savor them longer but it never happens! I end up reading them faster to get to the end and see how it finishes because her books are fantastic! In Lone Rider, we get to explore Bo Hamilton's story but we also have other characters interspersed, which is the way B.J. writes and I love it! So many other storylines that keeps you turning those pages! Bo is the head of her dead mother's foundation and when money goes missing, she decides to go up into the mountains to figure things out. It's supposed to just be overnight but on her way out, she runs across an escaped convict who takes her hostage! I love this part of the book as it was so real. I would have been totally terrified, just as Bo was. Her descriptions of the interactions between Bo and the killer were very realistic - I felt like I was right there in those mountains with them! Enter, Jace Calder! He's Bo's former sweetheart and he's going up into the mountains to find her. Not for himself but, because his sister asked him to. Bo gave his sister a job when no one else would. When he finds her, he can't believe what he sees - Bo is being held hostage! Meanwhile back home Bo's mother, who's been supposedly dead for 22 years, has recently dropped into their lives again with claims of amnesia! The plot thickens..... Daddy, the senator, doesn't know what to do about all this - his daughter is missing, his supposedly dead wife is back from the dead (but, he's married again)....keep reading to see everything happening to the Hamilton family!
*** I received a complimentary book in exchange for a honest review.

This is the second book in the Montana Hamilton series and as always B J Daniels hauls you in right from the start. Bo Hamilton and Jace Calder share a past and when Bo disappears in the mountains Jace's little sister thinks he is just the man to find her, not to mention that Bo is under suspicion of making off with money from the foundation that honors the death of her mother. Jace's little sister, Emily, who works for the foundation, is adamant that Bo is innocent, so she needs big brother to find her and bring her back to clear her name. Meanwhile Bo falls into the hands of a murdering lunatic in the mountains and sees no way of escape! The family back on the ranch fears the worse while her dad, the senator has troubles of his own dealing with the reappearance of his missing wife of 22 years who has no memory where she has been all that time. It is an intriguing tale of mixed story lines that keeps you guessing what will happen next! My favorite sheriff Frank and his lovely little gossipy wife has to deal with all the drama that is happening trying to figure out who the bad guy is!! Can't wait for the third book to see what the outcome will be!! As always the love scenes in B J's books are handled with class... gives you the tingle without the tawdry. A great read and I give it 5 stars!!!

AAARGH!? Let me say, I do not have problems with a series. I DO however have a problem with a book that is a continuation of a story and then leaves the story hanging.
Yes, the back cover said this was about Bo Hamilton and Jace Calder. They did resolve the story of those two.
It also said it was about the Montana Hamiltons.
No where did it say it would drop you in the middle of an ongoing storyline.
Having not read any other books by this author I did not realize the story would actually be about 4 couples and three of them were started (I take it, in another book) and to just be dropped in the middle of it, I just could not get involved in the story since I had no connection with ANY of the characters.
They left the story untold on the other three couples so be aware you will have to read another book to see what May or may not happen with the others. I will not be reading the other books. I do not like being sucked into a book with no warning that it is a continuation and also to know it has cliffhangers at the end. Totally dissatisfied.

Wow how is it possible BJ keeps getting better. She always finds a way to one up the previous book. This is the thought process of an amazing writer. I loved Bo and Jace from he beginning. Bo is camping out trying to clear her mind and reputation because money is missing from the foundation she runs. Jace is a former flame and tracker. He has the honor to go search for her before a bad storm hits. Can these to people who once had love and lost it survive this journey. This a quick cat and mouse chase full of suspense and bumps in the road. Simply put must read for the summer.
I was gifted ARC exchange for an honest review.

This is my first book by BJ Daniels and it will not be my last. I love second chance love stories.
It started a little slow, but it was for me the way it was written and the different story lines going on with in the book. Once I caught on I loved it. I only wished there was more interaction between Bo Hamilton and Jace Calder. The main story premise is between Jace and Bo but with the secondary stories they didn't get enough time for me to really get my romance fix. With that being said I can't wait to find out what's really going on with the Hamilton family mystery and possible secrets.
This is not a stand alone book and I'm going back to read Wild Horses book 1.

My first BJ Daniels read will not be my last.

Lone Rider is a reach and grab you, holy crap did that just happen and damn I didn't see that flippin coming kind of book. BJ Daniels has taken every aspect of a great romance and puts it all into one book.

Lone Ride is thrilling adventure that will have you turning the pages to keep up. Perfectly written descriptions keeps the reader in tune with the surroundings and complex characters. The suspense will keep you on edge while plot twist add a whole new ride to the game. A must read for any Romantic Suspense lover.

BJ Daniels gave this reader a one sit read in a subject that is not a top pic. She made me a fan with one book!

2.5 rounded up. While I enjoyed it, I'm finding I'm getting frustrated with the too many stories happening at once. It gets confusing if you haven't read the earlier book or forgot the details.

I liked Bo and Jace separately but together I couldn't feel the connection. There is the usual sex in an inappropriate place/time but Bo's kidnapping is brushed off a little too easily and I didn't really understand why they got back together.

All that being said, I did enjoy Bo's story as she bravely set out to survive her ordeal and did like the little side story with Jace's sister. So not all bad, just too much.

I can't wait for the movie. Ok I don't know if there's a going to be any movies but this would be an awesome movie. It's got action, romance, suspense and jump out of your skin scary things. I always love the other stories going on the background in B.J. Daniels books too. I do hate having to wait for the next book though lol. It's just too long in between books. BJ is an excellent writer and I'm ready for the next book just to see how Sarah's story turns out. (Sarah is the Hamilton girls' mother we met her in Wild Horses). This is a must read for thrill seeking romantics everywhere.

This series just keeps getting better. When she discovers money missing from the foundation she manages, Bo Hamilton takes a ride into the Crazies to figure things out. When she doesn't return, Jace Calder sets out to find her. What follows is unbelievable. Then there is the ongoing mystery about her "return from the dead" mother. This is another BJ Daniels book that will keep the reader on the edge of her seat.

Omg she doesn't disappoint. once again she has us enthralled into a book right from the beginning Clear to the end. where we want to know exactly what happens and cannot wait to get my hands on the next in the series. BJ can keep you at the end of your chair the whole time. If you love cowboys and mysteries then this is the book for you. If I could give her 100 + stars I would.
