Masashi Kishimoto (岸本斉史 Kishimoto Masashi) is a Japanese manga artist, well known for creating the manga series Naruto. His younger twin brother, Seishi Kishimoto, is also a manga artist and creator of the manga series O-Parts Hunter (666 Satan) and Blazer Drive. Two of his former assistants, Osamu Kajisa (Tattoo Hearts) and Yuuichi Itakura (Hand's), have also gone on to moderate success following their work on Naruto.

Kishimoto's first work as a manga artist was Karakuri (カラクリ?), which he submitted to Shueisha in 1995. This earned him the Weekly Shōnen Jump's monthly "Hop Step Award" in 1996, granted to promising new manga artists. This was followed in 1997 by a pilot version of Naruto (NARUTO-ナルト-), published in Akamaru Jump Summer. In 1998, Kishimoto premiered as a Weekly Shōnen Jump artist with a serialized version of Karakuri in Weekly Shōnen Jump, but it proved unpopular and was canceled soon after. In 1999, a serialized version of Naruto began publication in Weekly Shōnen Jump and quickly became a hit.

“Feel pain. Contemplate pain. Accept pain. Know pain”

“Killing me to avenge your village would be justice. But then what about MY family? MY friends? MY village?”

“If one calls vengeance justice, such ‘justice’ will just breed further vengeance, and a vicious cycle of hatred will be set in motion. This very moment, I live in such a cycle. I have seen the past and can foresee our future. And it is the same as our history. I do not see people as anything more than petty creatures who will never be able to understand one another. Our shinobi world… ruled by hatred.”

Nuff said, this is the best part of Naruto and Pain is such a deliciously quotable villain with an incredibly cool character design, abilities, backstory, and character arc.

I must be honest, I was hesitant to get into Naruto because I hear it gets startlingly bad in the final parts. But after reading the second box set, I am proud to say it is still enjoyable! After the time jump, the characters are all dressed much cooler, have better powers and many many questions get answered.

Some cons are: certain characters we loved in the beginning fade into the background. Rock Lee had an emotional arc in the end of the original childhood part, so why is he almost irrelevant here? Same with Neji, and Tenten has almost never been relevant sadly. Ino has also become a bit less important. The Konoha 9 were all trying to overcome both internal and external obstacles, but only with Shikamaru do we really see that continue after the time jump. It also hurts my soul to see my babe Tsunade stuck to a chair most of the time too..

Some people say Naruto has “asspulls” in logic, where the author just makes something random up for conveniency sake. And I suppose I see some signs of that, but this is SHŌNEN MANGA, something that is published weekly, not a novel written by a scholar who had all the time in the world before seeking publication. I’ve seen these “asspulls” in One Piece and even some seinen manga. That’s the downside of rapid production, less forethought.

BUT, cool battles, crazy villain powers, and something I’m very excited about... politics! I NEVER EVER care about fictitious politics, but Naruto has me genuinely caring about who the next Hokage will be, and how it will effect the nations. It’s a bit reminiscent of Book 4 of Korra.

Anyway, definitely the most “epic” portion of the series so far, but not quite as tight in all the smaller places like Part 1.

An incorrigible knack for mischief, a wild sense of humour, but completely serious about his mission to be the world’s greatest ninja, sounds familiar? Well the adventures of Naruto continues for his never ending quest to rescue his best friend Sasuke. The Second Box Set of Naruto collects volumes 28-48 of the manga series, often referred to as Naruto Shippuden.

The story is set two years since Naruto left to train with Jiraiya. The series get much darker, if mainstream shonen action is your thing, then gear up for some serious damage.

Good series, but it's not great. It goes to crap towards the end, but it wasn't a mistake to read because I enjoyed it overall and watched and read it at a relatively young age. I would not recommend this series to seasoned manga readers because it would be a waste of time. This is most certainly a good series for young kids and teens to enjoy great fights.

Might be the best back to back to back arcs in Animanga history IMO from Deidara's fight with Sasuke, to Jiraya's death & Itachi's sacrifice

Lots of incredible art that I wish I had gotten to see earlier, reading a colored version helps paint better pictures, but the official colored intro pages are beautifully watercolored and make for great backgrounds

(4.5/5) Volumes 28-72 were just as enjoyable as Naruto part 1. There’s no doubt that these volumes were fun and enjoyable to read. It never felt like it was a chore to read and for me that’s a very important aspect to these types of books. Story and characters were great and I like revisiting whenever i get the chance.

This has done a great job of taking the world building done by earlier parts and putting a massive story into motion. This second part was much better than the first half of the first section. This has seemingly only moved forward and gotten better as the story progresses.

I love witnessing the characters mature, the stakes raise, and see them circle very real questions of morality, change, and peace.

9/10 first two arcs are kinda meh but when Akatsuki suppression starts it only goes up from there. Pain arc is my favorite arc after the 3 year time skip in the series.
