Heine and Badou make their way into the innermost depths of Prof. Angelika Einstürzen’s underground sanctum. There, in the labs where Heine was born and then violently separated from his siblings, they learn more not only about Heine’s past but also about Badou’s connection to the professor. Meanwhile, Naoto is confronted by an Einstürzen clone and Frühling, and in the ensuing fight the truth about her origins is revealed.
If I had any power whatsoever, I would damn the creators of this series to Hell for not creating a sequel to this series. And then, I would run and dig and dig and dig in the ground until I get to Hell and then I would plead with them for a sequel so strongly and desperately and shamelessly that they would have to give it to us. Only in my wildest dreams.
This is what I was afraid of. I was afraid it was going to get exceptional and blow my mind and then hang me out to dry. Everything came to a head. Everyone was dying, or about to die, and revelations occurred and the game was changed in like 6 different ways and something was going to happen and the shit hit the freaking fan and then we get a TO BE CONTINUED?!?! Are you kidding me?! It cannot end like this. .... I mean, obviously it can't technically "end" like this, because it's a 'TO BE CONTINUED', so anything that (doesn't) happen is just a massive ginormous cliffhanger as opposed to a real ending. And I really, really hope they won't do that to us.
Shirow Miwa. I appeal to you directly. Please, please, please, please write the end of this series. And make it a continuation of the awesome story and art that I've come to expect from your incredible team. When your writing is this good, I think you have a responsibility to the readers to at least give us an ending. I will be here waiting. Please make this before I die.
[Note: I might die quicker than anticipated simply because the stress of lack of closure may cause an early grave. So y'know, don't dilly dally or anything, okay? Okay. Thank you.]
Its been on hiatus for a DECADE, and for gods sake we need an ending and I beg Miwa for one.
I love this series centered around a throne together scrappy group of Misfits in a dystopian futuristic city. The art is so detailed and such thought is put into every panel it's action packed but wonderful to look at and take in at the same time.
My enthusiasm for this is beginning to flag a bit as the story line seems to be spinning its wheels. You can tell we're near the end but both the art and the story has gotten a little sloppy and stretched.
Heine and Badou, along with Giovanni, have left Naoto behind as they go underground to face Einsturzen. Naoto follows them with Bishop but is he really a friend or an enemy pretending to be a friend?
Unfortunately for Heine (and Giovanni) Giovanni isn't quite himself and not completely in control. Worse Giovanni's brain is decompensating. As for Einsturzen, Frankenstein had nothing on her. SHe has become something as monstrous on the outside as she is on the inside.
And the rest of the volume is one protracted fight scene.
Among the fights we do get snippets of story line, history and present day but it's starting to feel like Bleach a few nuggets of story buried in so many fight scenes they've become monotonous.
I'm following this to the end which should be soon. Or at least I think I am because I like Heine and Badou (and Naoto for the most part). I just wish it balanced battle and plot better like it did in the earlier volumes.
I was half hoping that this would be the final volume, but I'm not complaining to be wrong - if anything this book seemed to only serve to heighten the tension to lead to a grand finale.
In this one we finally get to see the (hopefully) final antagonist - but at the same time more questions got raised with answers hanging. Heine's identity, Naoto's identity - and while we finally found out what happened to Badou's brother, how it will get resolved will be interesting to see in the next volume(s).
The only thing missing from this volume was the rare light-hearted moments. In previous volumes there were still moments, however rare, that would make me smile. This volume was all adrenaline rush from start to end. That cliffhanger at the end though...
I thought this would be the last volume, but it's actually just a build up to the climax (and a reveal at the end that I thought we knew already? *shrug*). Definitely a manga meant to be read slowly, not only to appreciate the art but to keep track of the fight scenes; personally I'm constantly finding they can get confusing, especially between characters like Heine and Giovanni who have similar appearances.
Still, as always, I'm excited to see where this story is going.
