Souma's dad is back! And we learn some stuff about him and meet some new characters. But this is a cooking story so now for ...

🍛BATTLE CURRY🍛

(lol I found a curry Iron Chef episode)

We get to learn about spices and different types of curry and honestly this is one of the reasons I like this series. The food is the main character, if anything. The amount of knowledge about foods and different cuisines is really impressive.

Only thing that I really want to gripe about with this series is how it seems to end every volume in the middle of the story/battle. Cheap ploy to get me to keep reading!

In a year of serialization, this series has managed to accumulate several minor characters that it's not easy to keep track of all of them. However, the writer was just laying the foundation for its first tournament arc where these minor characters would get their chance to shine.

The main stars get all of the attention, but there are a few who fly a under the radar that it's a pity that they were not used more. One of them is Ryoko, the Polaris dormer with the big sister vibe. She's a low key best girl candidate that's almost always overshadowed by the other girls, but true fans of this series know that she's as good as a best girl.

Another strong volume, setting the pace for its first tournament arc where the fighting is done through the cooking. Expect the story to become even better as the Fall Classic heats up.

❛Clear autumnal weather, a vast sky, and the curtains open on a grand stage.❜
If I had to describe Food Wars! Volume 6 in two words, I'd say: fun & surprising. Souma and his father never cease to surprise me! I loved seeing Souma's dad again, he is such an interesting character and so

Nice little slower arc for a breather.

World: The art is solid, the characters are nice for the type of book and the dishes look fantastic. The world building is good. After the camp this is a lull or quiet arc which allows for readers and the characters to catch their breath and the world building is just that too. We have little world building here, for the tourney but mostly it’s character based.

Story: The story is a quiet one with Dad coming back and seeing him again is good for characters. There are some nice quiet moments here and there throughout that really build up Polaris as a family. Then there’s the Curry stuff which is also good, it’s quiet and mostly info dumping for the food and learning but it’s stress free and fun.

Characters: The new characters this time around with the Spice girl (yes I’m gonna just call her that) and Spice boy was interesting. Seeing Dad was also nice and seeing him interact with the other Polaris members is fun. I like how Soma is growing and learning and he’s not just a bull brute forcing his way forward (I’m saying this because I’m also reading My Hero Academia at the same time and Bakugo is annoying), there is some growth and I like that.

A solid next part of the book that slows it a bit down for readers to catch their breaths.

Onward to the next book!

My gosh SOuma just keeps getting better and better.! He proves that hardwork and persistence is really the main key to success. He just keeps the entertainment into an entirely different level. I just really love his characteristics.

Volume 6 didn’t have my attention as the others did. It did end on a cliffhanger so I just have to buy the next volume!

Edit: I've decided that this was the last volume I'll read in this manga. Like I said this one didn't grab my attention as the others did and I doubt that I'll enjoy a story like this for another 30 volumes...

I guess a lot of readers will be impressed with Soma's father (Joichiro Yukihira) as we get to know more about his past in this volume. After rated either three or four stars in all the previous volumes, this will be the first volume which I will rate 5 out of 5. I felt amazed with the mangaka's broad knowledge of culinary. In the beginning, I can see just only the mangaka's knowledge in cooking skills but from this volume, I realised his culinary knowledge is much wider which includes ingredients and gastronomy as well.

One of the most epic volumes. I'm glad I stopped reading this years ago. Now, I can read this series without interruptions and still have atleast 8 volumes left to read. hue

Souma's father makes a comeback! Early in the morning after he came back at the Polar Star dorm, he challenged his son to a battle! After the battle, they received the letter about the theme of the upcoming election. His father told Souma about his underclassman who also stayed at Polar Star dorm who happens to be an expert on this year's election. After a month of preparation, the election has come!

The first half of the book is solid as Soma's father reappears. He's a great character.

The introduction of the quirky, curry experts in the second half isn't as successful, but it serves to introduce the reader to a lot of information about curry - which will be the main ingredient of the impending cooking competition - while still being entertaining. Not bad for an exposition piece.

This series makes me hungry every time I read a new volume. The cooking battles are fun, the illustrations of the food look delicious, and the latest challenge involves curry - a personal favorite of mine.

I can not stop praising the art in this series. It's just simply incredible and the story is great as well. If I'd have enough space on my shelf I would put them all face forward to show off the amazing covers but I have barely space as it is haha

I like that this one heavily focused on character development and backstory. With the Fall Classic underway, I definitely expect to see more of this!

Soma Yukihira and his friends and fellow Totsuki Academy continue onward with their journeys to become world-renown chefs in the sixth volume of Shokugeki no Soma: Food Wars.

In this volume, we find out what happens to Soma and the rest after the infamous Totsuki Friendship and Rapport Training Camp. Fortunately, everyone from the Polar Star Dorm survived and were not expelled. Upon returning, they receive a surprise visit from Joichiro Yukihira, Soma's father, in which it is revealed that he used to be known as Joichiro Saiba, the "Asura" (demon) of Polar Star Dorm and a former 2nd seat on the Elite Ten Council.

We also learn more about some of the contestants participating in the upcoming 43rd Annual Totsuki Autumn Election, a competition in which first years compete for the honor of earning a seat on the Elite Ten Council. The one character that gets far more attention than the others is Akira Hayama, a student who is trained by Jun Shiomi, another former Polar Star Dorm member who is now a professor at Totsuki Academy. He is highly proficient in the use of spices and is known for his incredible sense of smell and mastery of aromas.

To be frank, the chapters in this volume are half-filler and half-preparation for the upcoming story arc, the 43rd Annual Totsuki Autumn Election. It doesn't have any heavy-hitting moments or anything pivotal in the overall story, but we need such chapters to help drive more of an impact when later volumes release. I will say that I did omit certain details from this volume as not to spoil the story itself, but take my word that certain parts are necessary to the overall feel and emotions presented especially with Soma Yukihira.

There was some time between when I finished volume and I finally picked this up so it took me a little while to get back into the story. Once I did, I was was flying through the story and desperately needing more. As usual I loved the introductions to the new characters as well as the reappearance of some of the old ones. Of course this had to leave off on such an intense moment. I wish I had everything else that was currently out in English because even though I just finished, I feel like I've been gone from this world too long already.

That climax in the end made me laugh out loud really, well a little to be exact. The fact that you need skills to fall asleep and still not fall off a chair was established by Souma. That too, in the middle of an intense food fight where all kinds strong aroma was flying around. In this volume we get to see more of Souma's father and his backstory. The history has just started to unravel bit by bit and keeping the reader's waiting for more. I am more interested in Souma's father's story than the battles in the school that Souma has to face.

Quick thoughts (12/14): Nice to see a call back to earlier in the series, and the next stage of competition (which this volume is entirely about setting up) looks very interesting. Some side characters get some spotlight, and another major player is introduced.
