In the underground Diamond Domain, where many Carbink live, the Mythical Pokémon Diancie serves as ruler. The Heart Diamond that sustains the land is beginning to fall apart, and Diancie is not yet strong enough to create a new one. While seeking help from the Legendary Pokémon Xerneas, Diancie encounters a group of thieves who want to take control of its diamond-producing power and who awaken the Legendary Pokémon Yveltal from its cocoon in the process! Can Ash and his friends help Diancie discover its true power, stop Yveltal’s rampage, and save the Diamond Domain?!
I read this because I heard the movie was one of the better Pokémon movies, but I can’t handle Ash. I just can’t sit through entire Pokémon anime movies. So I thought the book would be easier. I’m not sure if it’s just because it’s condensed, but it wasn’t that great. I expected so much more from one of the higher rated Pokémon movies. And I don’t like how it portrayed Yveltal. Yveltal and Xerneas are equals. Two sides of the same coin. Without death, there is no life. Without life, no death. But Yveltal was purely antagonistic. Without Yveltal, the natural order would be destroyed. Zygarde is also supposed to keep that balance between life and death. So where was it? Probably in Termina Cave, just sitting there, because X and Y’s writers didn’t give it even a side quest. It also felt out of character for Ash to be so against Yveltal. Every other time he’s met an angry Legendary, he emphasizes with them and calms them. He believes there is good in all Pokémon. So why was everyone so upset with Yveltal? All in all, it was okay, but by far my least favorite Pokémon book. My feelings about the book may also be affected by the fact that Yveltal is one of my favorite Legendaries.
This book moves fast and leaves out a lot of the important emotional buildup that made the movie so good. It gets its fourth star for being my five-year-old's official introduction to manga. That counts for a lot.
Diancie: A Pokémon princess on a mission to save her domain. Xerneas: a legendary pokémon with a huge set of eight horns and its fairy aura ability gives life to all things. Dace: the elder of the Diamond Domain.
I would advise reading Diancie and the cocoon of destruction because it involves a combination of action and trust. If you like pokémon and action then this is the book for you! If you don't then don't read it!
Princess Diancie needs to leave her home in order to find Xerneas to help her realize her full potential to make a heart diamond in order to save her kingdom with the Carbink. While on her journey she runs into Ash and the group who help Diancie out of a couple tough situations when thieves and ninjas come to kidnap Diancie for her ability to make diamonds.
This was an interesting volume that was fun and fast paced. This brief story was a nice addition to the other Pokemon volumes. Kids will recognize these characters from the TV show and movies which might appeal to a broader audience. Overall very entertaining for a movie volume.
I received this advanced copy from VIZ Media through Edelweiss in exchange for my honest review.
