Wedding bells and storm clouds collide in the first engaging novel in a brand-new series about destination weddings, the power of love, and the possible mishaps and missteps that happen on a couple’s journey down the aisle to “I do.”
Paramedic Vanessa Hollister has put her adolescence behind her, including the unwanted label of being the new kid in town over and over again, thanks to her father’s military career. She’s overcome what her mother called “the biggest mistake of her life” and is planning an elegant destination wedding in Destin, Florida with her new fiancé. But will the reappearance of her first husband from her what-were-you-thinking teenage elopement disrupt her dream of an idyllic beach wedding?
As a professional storm chaser, Logan Hollister is used to taking risks. However, a reckless decision during the last tornado season has him questioning the future of his team, the Stormmeisters. Coming face to face with his ex-wife eight years after their divorce compels him to confront his greatest regret: losing Vanessa. Does their past give him the right to interfere with her future?
A fast-moving, powerful hurricane throws Vanessa and Logan together as they evacuate to a storm shelter along with other residents of the Florida Gulf Coast. Forced to spend time together, the pair battles unexpected renewed feelings for each other.
Vanessa and Logan are faced with a choice: Should they accept, once and for all, their teenage marital mistake? Or is God offering them a second chance at happily ever after?

Opened up the pages, jumped into the middle of the story and couldn't be pulled back out. When I was done, all I could do was sit back, sigh and wish for another 50 pages to spend with these new friends I had made.
Vanessa and Logan have an interesting past--that continues to haunt their future. As has been found typical with previous Vogt books, the author takes a complex situation and explores it for all it's worth, digging deep into the mind and heart of the matter, plumbing the depths of the characters for their strength and weaknesses...and their ultimate growth and change.
Any of us can find a bit to relate to in these two main characters. Throw in a hurricane on a coastal beach, a destination wedding, a "mistake" (or is it?) of a previous marriage and you have a recipe for fiction that will take you out of your present world and transport you to another. But there's so much more. The storyline doesn't end there and I'm thrilled to say this one is making it's way to my favorites shelf.
That perfect beach--or country--read to remind us all of the power of love, hope and redemption.
Summer is the perfect time for a romance that's themed around a destination wedding location. Add in a strong history between the hero and heroine, one that should keep them, apart, and you have a recipe for a delightful novel like Crazy Little Thing Called Love. This book is all about the decision to take the safe way or risk it all for love. In Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Beth Vogt takes her characters (and readers) on a journey where the choice must be made. Move forward or stay mired in the results of the past? Choose the safe path or risk everything for a love that takes your breath away? Settle or fly? In the journey, readers will be reminded that God can turn our old mistakes into a beautiful present.
The story does all of this while wrapped around the story of Vanessa Hollister and Logan Hollister. The same last name threw them together as teens and a young love that was destined to fail. Now engaged again, Vanessa runs into Logan on their beach while planning her destination wedding. This book was a delight to read, and one I strongly recommend for those who love contemporary romances with heart and a bit of vacation to them.
If you’re looking for a new series to read, you won’t want to miss the Destination Wedding series by Beth K. Vogt. It kicks off with the sweet novella, Can’t Buy Me Love (see my review). It continues in Crazy Little Thing Called Love, which ramps up the (mis)adventure you would expect in a series that features travel and weddings.
In this fun beach read, paramedic Vanessa Hollister tries to forget the worst mistake of her life: marrying Logan Hollister when she was a senior in high school. Now divorced from him and engaged to another man, she plans her destination wedding in Destin, Florida. But a hurricane swoops across the state, forcing her and her ex-husband to the same emergency shelter. Will the time they spend together cement their differences? Or will it help them see that their worst mistake was actually the right thing?
My interest in this series began long before I received a copy of the book (thanks, Beth!), but it was piqued even more when I read the opening lines:
“Thousands—even millions—of women had routine choose-a-church, select-a-dress, plan-a-reception kinds of weddings. For some unknown reason, she was not one of those women.”
That really set the tone not only for Crazy Little Thing Called Love, but for the entire Destination Wedding series. It let me know right away that these wedding stories will not be traditional or boring or usual. Instead, there will be adventure and hilarity and interesting characters and events. Those lines told me I can look forward to more of Beth Vogt’s trademark humor, deep topics, and complex relationships.
Let me tell you now: I was not disappointed on any of those things.
Some authors reach a plateau in their writing, where every storyline is the same, all the characters are from one mold, and the lessons learned repeat the messages of prior books. Thankfully, Beth’s novels are fresh on all accounts every time. She keeps me guessing what will happen next and surprises me in multiple ways on the journey. Her novels always make me fall in love with Christian fiction—and reading—all over again.
In Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Logan is a storm chaser, a career I haven’t seen in books before. It reminded me of the movie Twister, in that the hero struggles with the decision to stay or go from the job. I particularly enjoyed the way Logan’s passion for storms was threaded throughout the plot, including the hurricane and the whirlwind of his relationship with Vanessa.
The fact that weather patterns still carry such an unpredictable quality, even with all the technology available today, is such a great analogy to life and relationships. No matter how many times we think we’ve got either one figured out, God never ceases to turn things on their head and keep us on our toes. His goal is to draw us closer to Him, because He loves us and yearns for us to desire Him more than anything.
It’s my life’s goal to cleave to Him with everything that I am. Is it yours?
As a member of Beth Vogt’s Dream Team, I received a complimentary copy of Crazy Little Thing Called Love. This is my honest review.
My husband wants to be a storm chaser when he grows up. Thankfully, we live in California and he is a teacher... for now :) Vanessa and Logan are both in periods of transition when they unexpectedly reconnect. The perilous circumstances heighten the emotion and while they struggle in the here and now, several flashbacks share the sweetness of their love story and the tragedy when it went wrong. The book started out kind of slow for me with Vanessa an Ted planning their wedding, but it effectively contrasted with the energy of Vanessa and Logan's relationship once their paths collided. There is plenty of angst as Logan is filled with regret and seeking for a second chance, only to be shut down repeatedly by Vanessa. I had a hard time with how she felt their problems were Logan's fault, yet the flashbacks show how her refusal to communicate or compromise contributed to the disintegration as well. She does relent to spend some time with Logan, but instead of closure, their deep feelings are reawakened. The last part of the book moved in a direction I didn't anticipate, and it was interesting to see how things were resolved. The secondary cast of characters was well-rounded with Vanessa's high school friend Mindy (who was great), some elderly neighbors, parents, siblings, and Logan's storm chasing team members. Each served to help Vanessa and Logan in their pursuit to follow God's plan for their lives and find peace.

I loved this story! It's not just another syrupy sweet romance...it's a couple wrestling with the issues of their past. They never thought there was a future for them, but when they're thrown together by circumstances out of their control, they try to at least be friendly. And then a few things for old times' sake...and a goodbye. I honestly was wondering how in the world this could possibly work out, and I enjoyed how Vogt wove in the scenes from the past to explain the emotions from the current conversations and feelings.
The ending is astounding and delightful and thoroughly believable...and the reader leaves with a lot of lessons about the value of communication and value for one's true friends.

I enjoyed this "destination wedding" book by Beth K. Vogt. The story of Vanessa and Logan is written with a lot of depth and feeling. The back and forth between their past and the present could get a little confusing but it was necessary to explain their past history.
There were so many times I just wanted to slap Logan...lol. But there were also times when I wanted to shake Vanessa! Like I said above, there's a lot of emotion in this book. I loved Vanessa's re-connection with her high school friend Mindy. Mindy is the kind of friend we all wish and hope for. And of course I didn't like Ted at all!! Vanessa's desire to feel safe and grounded in one place really blinds her to the character of Ted. I enjoyed the secondary characters of Logan's team. They are like family to Logan and just want him to be happy. As Vanessa and Logan re-connect, they'll need all the support they can get to overcome the hurts of the past. You might need some tissues towards the end of the book! :D
All in all, a very well written book and I look forward to reading about Logan's sister Caro in the second book!
*Thanks to the publisher & TBCN/BookFun for the complimentary copy of this book for review purposes. All opinions stated are my own.*
Oh my goodness, my emotions were all over the map while I read this book! From grins to laughter to wincing to tears and then repeat. There may have even been a full out bawl over one particular scene close to the end. (There totally was.) I felt so drawn to Vanessa, to Logan, to their history and to their hearts – as well as even to the secondary characters. Especially Logan’s storm team, his family, The Wrights, and Mindy.
The romantic tension seemed tangible immediately from Vanessa and Logan’s first re-encounter, and I could sense right away that their backstory was a good one. I was not wrong. The flashbacks that Beth Vogt worked seamlessly throughout the book added so much depth and emotion to the present plot, and honestly I fell in love with Vanessa & Logan while watching them fall in love with each other way back in high school. In my opinion, a story about past loves needs to establish a base for rooting for them in the present. I mean, there’s a reason they were “past”, right? I think Beth Vogt did an amazing job of showing why Logan and Vanessa were something special when they first fell in love.
Crazy Little Thing Called Love is the first book I’ve read by Beth Vogt, I am sorry to say. Now I want to go back and play catch up! Her writing voice is natural and engaging, and she gives the right amount of detail without overdoing the descriptions. I was instantly wrapped up in the plot, in the characters, in the palpable tension (romantic and emotional), in the friendships that cross miles, and in the gentle reminders of God’s grace and enduring love.
Bottom Line: The perfect beach read – even if you’re stuck at home – Crazy Little Thing Called Love will do more than get a song stuck in your head :) It will wrap its arms around your waist like the passenger on a motorcycle and do a one-two tap on your heart. Alive with engaging characters and a heartfelt plot, this story will renew your belief in the power of second chances and redemption. And seriously, there’s a scene toward the end that will require a decent tissue supply to be on hand. It’s so worth it though!
(I received a copy of the book from the publisher via both Litfuse Publicity Group and Netgalley in exchange for only my honest review.)
I just finished this book and my mind is saying, "Wow. Amazing." I finished with tears streaming down my face, weeping. Literally. Then I went back and reread that portion and began sobbing. What a moving ending to a wonderful book! Beth Vogt has just done it again! I'm so glad I picked up her first book.
Logan and Vanessa Hollister married, eloping at 18, thinking that was what they just had to do to be together. Two years later, divorce entered the picture. Now, 8 years later, circumstances have thrown them together; Vanessa is in Florida to plan her dream destination wedding to someone else and Logan is there with his storm chaser team. A Category 2 hurricane slams into the area unexpectedly and now neither can leave. They've never gotten over each other, but Vanessa is determined to go her way now, the right way; at least that's what she thinks is the right way.
Aren't you glad God has a plan for our lives that sometimes has nothing to do with the way we think our lives should go? The spiritual lesson in this book is so wonderful. God cares. Always. Never leaves. Never gives up. Always waiting. Even when we feel so alone, like no one cares, even if we feel like God doesn't even know our address. He's there. He can handle all those feeling we have and turn them into triumph for us!
Beth Vogt writes wonderful books. I only wish I had the creative ability to give it the review it deserves. But alas, I have no writing ability. So I just say to you: this book is awesome and you will miss out if you do not read it!
*I was provided an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was not asked to give a favorable review and my words are my own.
Paramedic Vanessa Hollister married Logan Hollister (yes, same last names) when she was eighteen and divorced him two years later for reasons unknown (we did find out later in the book. It would have been nice to have understood this earlier, but no. This kind of information was disclosed through flashbacks which I found annoying because they were disrupting the present-time story).
Vanessa is now living in Denver and engaged to Dr Ted Topliff, who has the idea to have a romantic destination wedding in Destin, Florida, to coincide with a medical conference he will be attending. Yep. How romantic. Vanessa doesn’t think this is a good idea, not because of the obvious sign that her husband-to-be isn't exactly making the wedding a priority, but because that’s where she met Logan. Sure enough, when she visits Florida to plan the wedding, she runs into Logan, and things don’t exactly go as planned …
This was a sweet romance along the lines of Sweet Home Alabama (with a destination wedding theme), about rediscovering love and second chances … At least, it was a sweet romance as long as I didn’t think about it too much. If I think about it, the romance suddenly seems too fast, and not entirely convincing. I could see from the flashbacks how and why eighteen-year-old Vanessa and Logan fell in love, and I could see that twenty-eight year-old Logan still loved Vanessa--although I suspect he loved eighteen-year-old Vanessa, because he really didn’t spend enough time with the twenty-eight-year-old one. But I wasn't convinced by Vanessa. As a result, I just wasn’t convinced by the romance.

Once in a while I find myself so infinitely entrenched in the pages of a book, I lose track of time and maybe a little sleep. Such was the case with Vogt’s latest release, Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Plus, I was so caught up in the storyline between Vanessa and Logan, I found myself in tears on more than one occasion.
On the surface it appears to be a story about two people who are being reunited after divorce almost a decade earlier but it goes much deeper than that. Much. Deeper. I was completely blown away by the author’s writing. Seriously, Vogt just gets better and better. The plot is well-developed with characters who have real struggles and doubts and fears. I like how the whole story plays out on the page in a balanced manor; plenty of compelling dialogue to go with some pretty intense introspection from both characters. It flows along effortlessly and then picks up some serious emotional speed toward the end.
The wedding scene…oh. my. goodness. Talk about romantic. Logan Hollister has got to be Christian fiction’s ultimate bridegroom ever!
Anyone who enjoys Contemporary fiction with a strong faith theme will fall in love with Crazy Little Thing Called Love. I know it has everything this reader wanted and more.
My deepest gratitude to the author and Howard Books for providing a copy for review purposes. This is my honest opinion of the book. No monetary compensation has been received.
Well, here’s a new book that I am definitely adding to my “Favorites of 2015″ list! And it’s by an author that I have not read before, which is always exciting.
As I read this book, I kept telling my husband how incredibly good it was and how much I was loving the story. It was such a great romance.
I basically loved everything about the story. There’s nothing that I didn’t like. The characters were great, the setup for the romantic plot was wonderful, but my favorite portions of the book were the flashbacks to Logan and Vanessa’s high school and early college relationship. I really enjoyed seeing how they came together and what eventually went wrong. The happily ever after was perfect and I can not wait to read the next book in this series!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher, through Litfuse Publicity, in exchange for an honest review.
This was the first book I've read for leisure in over a year and I am so glad it was the one I chose! The characters in this book were well-developed. I felt like I was part of the story, especially because I lived through two hurricanes in Florida. It brought back so many memories. I loved the flashbacks, they gave just enough back story to explain, but just little enough that I couldn't wait to read the next one and understand a little bit more about the Vanessa & Logan's past. I think they were my favorite part of the book. I also loved "watching" Vanessa learn how to have a REAL friendship with Mindy. Thank you, Beth K. Vogt, for writing yet another great book that I can keep on my shelf to re-read and recommend to my friends!
I was glued to this story from the first page to the last. I connected with Vanessa and was interested in her destination wedding with Ted; the Dr. she’s been friends with for two years. Ted finally asked her to marry him and wants to have the wedding in Destin Florida. Why? Because it will co-inside with a medical conference he wants to attend. Kill two birds with one stone he says.
Vanessa reminds herself, “Ted was a bit lacking in the relationship category, but she hadn’t fallen in love with Ted because of the way he’d swept her off her feet with flowers and chocolate and hallmark cards…Ted’s patience enabling their friendship to ease into a love that would last through whatever the future held for them.”
Vanessa had romance and passion in her first marriage; now she sought stability, and living in one place. She was raised in a military family and had enough of moving around. She wanted roots and friends. She knew how to say hello and goodbye but hadn’t experienced a long lasting relationship. What was that about? No one in her life stayed there for long. She knew how to pack up and move on. I liked the quote the author had by actor Keanu Reeves – who said, “Falling in love and having a relationship are two different things.”
Logan Hollister had reached his dream of being a storm-chaser and had done well with his career but lost the love of his life in the pursuit. There wasn’t a day that went by he didn’t think about the love he let it slip away. Little did he realize, …Choices you make today will affect you five years from now. Some will affect you for the rest of your life.” Why didn’t he fight harder like his grandparents did for his marriage with Vanessa?
Eighteen was too young to wed but Logan’s grandparents were even younger they were together for 50 years. Logan always quoted his grandfather, “You either get married young-and you grow up together. Or you get married when you’re older – and you still grow up together.”
Logan and Vanessa’s lives surprisingly intersect in Destin Florida; when they both see a boy drowning and jump in to save him. What are the chances of that happening? It had been eight years since they’d laid eyes on each other.
The author says, “It was important to tell the story of Vanessa and Logan’s earlier years – their love story. Readers needed to see their youth, their immaturity, which was so influenced by their lack of communication.” I agree. She weaves the past and the present beautifully.
This story is filled with fun, surprises, mix-ups, and tender moments that will make you laugh, cry and others that will make you hold your breath as Destin residences prepare for a hurricane. The hurricane parts of this novel and the relationship dynamics between Logan and Vanessa, reminded me of the movie Twister with Helen Hunt. Both Vanessa and Logan are complex believable characters, who have made mistakes and have regrets. Could there be a second chance at love and life for them?
I enjoyed the secondary characters very much, through them the author shows the importance of family and friends. The author says, “Friendships are so, so important to me. And yes when I’m with my friends, it’s all about the conversation, the laughter, the give-and-take between us. If I can make someone laugh, I’m happy.”
All of the author’s books show us that relationships are messy. Friendships and happily ever after are tough. And God gives us hope in the middle of the mess thru his son Jesus. I appreciate how this author skillfully weaves this message into her stories in a natural, non-preachy way. This would make a GREAT book club pick. This story is rich and easily leads to a lively discuss. The author has provided ten discussion questions and three ways to enhance your book club experience. There is also a short interview at the end, I found very interesting. You’ll want to make sure Crazy Little Thing Called Love makes it on your summer reading list! This story is a keeper!

{My Review}
Rating: 3.5 stars
Crazy Little Thing Called Love is my second or third Beth K. Vogt novel and I think it may be my last. I just can not seem to be able to get into her stories and get invested in the characters. Crazy Little Thing Called Love is the first book in Beth's new Destination Wedding series. It is Vanessa and Logan Hollister's story of redepmtion and second chances. Vanessa and Logan were once married, which Vanessa's parents call "the biggest mistake of her life". Vanessa is now engaged to another man, but soon gets reaquainted with her ex-husband Logan. Will Vanessa and Logan give their relationship a second chance.
This novel was just an okay/good read. The writing style is not my favourite. The writing seemed a little bit choppy to me and the romance really wasn't that believeable.
Utterly compelling. Reader beware -- open this book and be prepared to lose all concept of time and place. You won't be able to shake yourself clear until you reach 'the end'.
Complicated pasts lead to complicated futures when an unexpected (and dramatic!) reunion with her ex-husband threatens all of Vanessa's carefully laid plans. The dynamics between the two leap off the page and the ensuing mayhem is both angsty and exhilarating.
Vogt teases her readers with enticing flashbacks of Vanessa and Logan's teenage romance. We can see how the vulnerability and inexperience of youth worked against them. But they are older and wiser now -- but oh so wary. There are some tender and poignant scenes where they both remember a good time, an inside joke, a pet name. Drawn together by sweet memories and torn apart by painful ones. An emotional roller coaster ride of epic proportions!
In fact, at one point,Vanessa laments how being with Logan is like "inhaling adrenaline" and that pretty much describes this reading experience. Inhaling adrenaline right to the very last page.
Logan and Vanessa were high school sweethearts and married at 17 and divorced two years later. This destination wedding novel takes place eight years after the divorce.
When Logan and Vanessa initially married they lacked maturity and commitment. It was the theme of commitment that really appealed to me in this novel.
I found myself enjoying some parts of the novel more than others so it wasn't an "even" feeling read for me. Overall, I enjoyed it and recommend Crazy Little Thing Called Love for those that enjoy contemporary romance.
Thank you to the author for a complimentary copy of the novel.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! It was so full of crazy events. It started at the very beginning and kept going all the way through to the end. WOW! This story had some dramatic parts where I was holding my breath, trying to read as fast as I could to get through the scene and onto the next. There were other parts where I was tearing up, not wanting the characters to be going through the things they were. All of this is what makes a fantastic book and a fantastic author! Beth Vogt is one author I will read again. She blends her stories so smoothly. This book flows in such a way that you really feel you know these characters and understand what they are struggling with. There were a couple of times I wanted to knock some sense into both of them. Yet, they touched my life with their story. I’ve always loved reading books that draw out emotions and feelings and give me a life lesson to walk away with. This book does that, and I highly recommend you pick it up
The hardest decision you will ever face in life is choosing whether to walk away or try harder. I loved this book!!! This is a story about choices and trust, but it's also about so much more. It's a romance interwoven with a little suspense that is truly hard to put down until the last page is turned. Vanessa Hollister grew up as a military child moving from post to post and never putting down roots which is something she longs for. She hated being the new kid at school and her senior year of high school was not different, but yet turned out to be the year that changed her life. Vanessa met and married Logan Hollister her senior year of high school and truly thought their futures were set. Unfortunately love does not conquer all. A marriage takes communication and work by both people if it is to succeed. Was it youth, miscommunication, selfishness, or distance the downfall of their marriage? I suspect a combination of all that and then some. Regardless a mere two years after the "I dos" are spoken their marriage ends in divorce. Vanessa learns a valuable lesson, or so she thinks, and tries to put Logan and his betrayal in the past where it belongs. After college she move to Colorado and begins a new life. Fast forward 8 years and she finds herself engaged to Ted Topliff and planning her wedding. Ted is an ER physician and she is a paramedic so they have a lot in common. One of the the things she loves about Ted is that he is practical, but sometimes maybe a little too practical, especially when he suggested a destination wedding. Ted wants to combine their wedding with a medical conference so he can obtain some educational credits. The best conference was located in Destin, Florida and that's the one he wants to attend. Even though Vanessa doesn't want to be married in Destin, Ted convinces her and encourages her to take a trip down to plan the wedding of her dreams. Vanessa decides going to Destin early to plan the wedding will be perfect after all. She would be able to plan her dream wedding and at the same time she would finally face her past with Logan and put it to rest once and for all. What she doesn't expect is to run into Logan after all these years or the Cat 2 hurricane to hit the area. Needless to say both wrecked havoc on her plans. This is a sweet romance that will tug on the heart of any reader. I was immediately drawn to the characters, but the engaging storyline kept me turning the pages until the end. The bible tells us to pray about everything and to follow where God leads us. The spiritual journey of the two main characters take is as important to this story as the romance. I would recommend this book to anyone. I received this book as a gift from the publisher and author for a honest opinion without bias or outside influence as stated above. I would like to thank them for this opportunity.

This book ... oh my word. I was a little hesitant due to the fact that Vanessa and Logan were divorced and she was engaged and the her and Logan got back together. Sound kinda fishy right?
But this book was anything but! Mrs. Vogt weaves the past a present together into a perfect blend of faith, love and destination weddings!
Logan is a stormchaser, which honestly was super cool! The past he is struggling to let go of isn't just letting Vanessa go; it also is the fact that one of his team members ended up in the hospital. I love how he learns to forgive himself.
Vanessa also learns to forgive. But she also learns what true faith in God is. I thought it was awesome how, once she finally gives everything over to God, how he brings the pieces of her life back together. Who better than the creator of the universe to organize this crazy mess we call our lives?
I give this book a five stars. Mrs. Vogt blends the past with the present and I am crazy in love with this book.

Deb’s Dozen: Vanessa and Ted are getting married—a destination wedding—a lasting love?
Vanessa and Ted are getting married. Vanessa is dreaming of their perfect wedding in Denver. Ted has other ideas. He’s an ER doc and there’s a medical conference going on in Florida—they’ll have a destination wedding! They can get married, then he can go to the conference and catch up on some CEUs. He’s always so practical—but Vanessa yearns for romance. Ted convinces her to go to Destin to do some advance planning and Vanessa reluctantly agrees.
She’s so hesitant because Destin is where she met her first love, Logan. Besides sharing the same last name, Hollister, they’d shared their dreams and their lives. Now eight years divorced, Vanessa doesn’t want to run into Logan again. However, Ted is not to be denied. So Vanessa’s off to FL—after a detour to Montana to see her dad who’s had a heart attack.
In Florida, she hooks up with her friend, Mindy, who is delighted to hear from her again. The night before her lunch with Mindy, she walks the beach trying to erase the long ago memories from her mind. Suddenly she sees a group of people pointing out to sea—there she sees an arm raised in distress and realizes the person is drowning. Jumping into the water, she swims toward to boy, only to have him fight her rescue attempt. Another man sees the struggle and swims out to help too. As the two of them bring the boy to shore, Vanessa realizes the stranger is none other than her ex-husband, Logan. Uh, oh!
A Crazy Little Thing Called Love is a wonderful story. I enjoyed this tale of romance and unrequited love. I enjoyed getting to know and understand Vanessa and Ted and Logan and Mindy. I enjoyed learning a bit more about storm chasing and hurricanes and paramedics and rescues. Lots of twists and turns and adventure and love. You’ll enjoy the story too. Four stars.
I love Beth’s bio from the back of the book—I can tell we’d be friends if we met. “Beth K. Vogt is a nonfiction author who said she’d never write fiction. After saying she’d never marry a doctor or anyone in the military, she is happily married to a former Air Force family physician. Beth believes God’s best is often behind the door marked ‘Never.’ An established magazine writer and editor, Beth’s debut novel, Wish You Were Here, was released in May 2022. She writes inspirational contemporary romance because she believes there is more to happily ever after than the fairy talks tell us.” Get to know Beth better at www.bethvogt.com

I don’t often read contemporary novels—maybe because I enjoy travelling to different times and places through reading or because I enjoy the opportunity to learn something as I read a novel, but they usually don’t appeal to me in the same way that historical books do. I requested this book because the premise intrigued me despite its contemporary setting: a woman planning her destination wedding encounters her ex-husband and a whole host of memories and mixed emotions in the process. I was eager to see where the author would take the story, and I thoroughly enjoyed the ride!
This is largely a story about coming to terms with our past, forgiving those who have hurt us and asking for forgiveness from those we have wronged. Grace plays a large part as does faith in God, in His goodness, His love for His children, and His perfect plan for each of us, even when we get off track and take a detour—sometimes for years. I really enjoy how the author doesn’t oversimplify our relationship with God; we don’t always understand His ways, but we can still trust Him. That doesn’t make everything magically easy, but we can still move forward knowing who is ultimately in control.
The characters are three-dimensional and developed; each has a backstory that impacts not only their own individual lives, but their life as a couple that is itself a backstory to the main action in the novel. I love the layering in how the story is told, too—we peel away the present to add depth as we read.
This is a realistic romance in the truest sense—a mixed up, imperfect attempt to connect one life with another, in all the messiness of this existence. I would highly recommend this novel to any reader looking for something different, for more than the typical “happily ever after” tale where all challenges are resolved and life is tied up in a neat bow. It doesn’t often (ever?) work out like that, so those looking for realism will thoroughly enjoy this novel without having to suspend all disbelief.

I just adore Beth Vogt's contemporary romances. They are some of the sweetest, unique stories I have read. The chemistry between the couples in her novels are off the charts! Crazy Little Thing Called Love is one such story. While it is probably my least favorite since her debut, it remains a worthwhile read!
Let's start with the con of the story, yes there was only one, but it was a biggie for me -- the speedy resolution. Logan and Vanessa's elopement in high school and subsequent heartbreak was all well and good for an interesting backstory and what I had hoped would be a tricky reunion with crazy sparks, but without giving too much away, the ending was so rushed. It almost seemed as if they didn't really learn much from their past mistake of rushing to the altar. That said, I really like stories where couples who once loved each other have the chance to reunite, so Crazy Little Thing Called Love pulled at my heartstrings.
The pros of the story -- a category 3 hurricane and some loving friends proved interesting when it came to Logan and Vanessa's relationship! I loved that we got a peek at Nessa's past and how her old friends fit into her new life even after so many years had passed. I really hope that Rylan Hollister, Vanessa's brother shows up at some point too. We're sort of teased by a mention his life in the military and his "singleness", so he needs a book of his own. If anyone can write fabulous, likeable characters, it's Beth Vogt, so I hope she brings this family back again in future stories.

This was my first book to read by Beth Yogt. I don't read much contemporary stories, but I like to try new authors and switch up my reading from time to time.
The story was sweet and precious. The book didn't drag, but I did have a hard time getting into the book at first. It took a few chapters, but don't give up on it. Eventually, you will get hooked on the" How is person "A" really gonna end up with person "B." One of the things I really liked about this read was that the description of how gorgeous the guy was and how beautiful the girl wasn't over done. I often tire of the books that constantly talk about the hero and heroine being drawn to muscle , brawn, and beauty. Although a well written love story, it wasn't overly "sicky sweet" as I've heard it put. Although the faith theme was a thin one it was present. I liked the characters, but none of the main characters really drew me into the story. It was a quick, sweet, and enjoyable read.
The biggest problem is that the reader knows from the beginning how it us going to end. However, the author does make it an enjoyable journey to get there. It doesn't make love and marriage a fairy tale either.
If you like contemporary romance reads, I highly recommend you give this read a chance. Don't put it down...you will want to know the story so stick with it and enjoy the light romance read.
I received this book free through bookfun.org for my honest opinion which I have given,
Once I started, I could not stop reading Beth K. Vogt’s Crazy Little Thing Called Love. It is a simply wonderful, well-written romance. I loved the main characters - Vanessa Hollister and Logan Hollister, high school sweethearts coincidentally bearing the same last name - from the very beginning and as they began to cross paths time and time again, I only wanted the best for them - though Vogt kept me guessing about how exactly that would work out. Vanessa and Logan each have lessons to learn and challenges to overcome, as their pasts - both from their time together and their time apart - continue to stir up fears and insecurities. And as they grow in understanding, love and forgiveness, their overall story is quite touching and even left a few tears brimming in my eyes. I would certainly recommend Crazy Little Thing Called Love to fans of contemporary romance and certainly look forward to reading more in Vogt’s Destination Wedding series.

Who doesn't love a summertime wedding story? Beth K Vogt has penned a delightful novel of a bride reluctantly planning a destination wedding in the very town where she made an impetuous decision to elope as a teenager. Stormy weather is ahead in more ways than one, and Vogt creates plenty of drama when Vanessa and her first husband, Logan, continue to bump into each other. I loved the characters in this story--well, except for Vanessa's rigid, workaholic, fiance!--and the layers of relationships built into this novel. Mr. and Mrs. Wright completely charmed my heart, as did the loving care Vanessa and Logan provided for them during the storm. A strong start to a promising series, Crazy Little Thing Called Love is the perfect addition to your summer reading list.

I love Beth Vogt's books. They are just great, clean, enjoyable entertainment that leave you feeling good after you finish the book! I just really loved Crazy Little Thing Called Love! Vanessa and Logan's story had me in tears throughout the book. And Logan is just a guy everyone dreams of. I love the way he handled his mistakes, and then taking action to do something about the mistakes he had made. He and Vanessa just belonged together! And the destination wedding, WOW is all I can say about that. And what an amazing thing Logan did! And you can tell, I am a huge Logan fan. And I'm just not going to elaborate on it any more because you need to read the book to find out what its all about!

Great New Series! This is a great book; this is the first book in the Destination Wedding series by Beth Vogt. Vanessa is a paramedic; she has finally put her younger years and her first marriage behind her. She is planning her destination wedding to her new fiancé. What she doesn’t expect is the reappearance of her ex-husband Logan. Logan is a professional storm chaser. When he sees Vanessa again, the first time in eight years he is wondering if they made a mistake getting divorced. This is a great second chance love story with wonderful characters. Once I started reading it I didn’t want to put it down until the end. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
What a great story! In this first book of a new series from Beth Vogt, we get to head to the beaches of Destin to revisit the past and come face to face with the ghosts of old love.
I really like the characters in this book, and really enjoyed getting to know them and their backgrounds. I enjoyed how this book combined both past and present throughout the story and gave us a full picture of the entire story without boring us with the little details.
I'm looking forward to the remainder of this series, and hope these characters show up again. I'd like to see how they are doing.
