Obsession: The Kink, P.I. Series

Rate this book
For fans of the Nubian Underworld series, this first book in the gritty, new Kink, P.I. series introduces former APD detective Dominic Law who knows one thing for you can never predict who or what might turn up next.

When Dominic Law left the force for a more lucrative offer to run a friend’s private security firm, he thought that his days of suffering as a police detective were over, and he could finally sit back, relax, and take the cases that he wanted, when he wanted.

Was he ever wrong.

Before he can settle into his cushy new office and flirt with his sexy secretary, Dominic finds himself entangled in the politics and rules that he thought he had left behind. A sexy detective assigned to the first case keep his eyes and hands full, while another case unexpectedly reunites him with a former partner who never forgave him for leaving the force—and for leaving her.

From the lustful scenes within the fetish and swingers’ nightclubs, to the relentless heat of the streets that he used to walk as a rookie cop, Dominic is determined to solve the cases in a libidinous underworld where the rules are different, and where nothing—and no one—is as they seem.

“Every secret of a writer’s soul, every experience of his life, every quality of his mind, is written large in his works.” ~ Virginia Wolfe

Conjurer of worlds. Sorcerer. Man. Myth. Legend. Prototype.

All of these words describe Shakir Rashaan, who has been creating mind-twisting stories and lavish worlds for well over a decade, rolling onto the national literary scene as a contributor to Z-Rated: Chocolate Flava 3 in 2012. His raw, vivid, and uncut writing style captured the attention of the Queen of Erotica herself, Zane. A year later, Shakir’s debut novel with Strebor/Atria/Simon & Schuster, The Awakening, opened to rave reviews, while the follow-up in the Nubian Underworld series, Legacy, garnered even more success, and the third installment, Tempest, helping to make the series one of the most unique and best-selling in the erotic romance genre.

Rashaan would later add to his impressive catalog with the debut of the Kink, P.I. Series in 2015, starting with Obsession and following up with Deception and Reckoning. Drawing comparisons to Walter Mosely’s Easy Rawlins series, Kink, P.I. has developed into yet another best-selling series, carving its place as a “throwback to the days of classic mystery books” in the mystery genre.

Further adding to his impressive portfolio, Rashaan was a regular blogger for USA Today’s Happy Ever After blog, where readers could find him at his “Manly Musings” personal blog, reviewing books, television shows, and movies from a man’s perspective. He wrote recaps for various shows for the STARZ Network, including The Girlfriend Experience, POWER, and Survivor’s Remorse, before the blog was retired in late 2018.

Shakir has gone on in recent years to pen a series of bestselling novels, including In Service to the Senator, a sexy political thriller surrounding an up-and-coming vice presidential candidate, The Devil’s All-American, a unique paranormal romance featuring a rising college basketball star, Unthinkable, a not-so-conventional romance set in the entertainment industry, Love, Lust & Beautiful Liars, a romantic suspense novel about an international weapons dealer who was looking to retire and enjoy his HEA, and most recently in 2021, Queen of Cambridge, part of the Queens of the Castle anthology series.

Shakir has switched gears, jumping into the young adult world, developing the Neverwraith series, a YA paranormal fantasy for Entangled Teen/Macmillan, and the South Hampton series, in addition to several other YA and New Adult projects to expand his NEBU universe. Neverwraith is his most ambitious project to date, about a teenage descendant of an ancient metahuman bloodline who searches for the truth about the death of his parents and their connection to a centuries-old blood feud over sacred texts contained inside of his native Kindara, an island nation located near the West African coast ... all while navigating high school

Shakir currently resides in suburban Atlanta with his wife, soon-to-be college graduate daughter, and a Jack-Chi named Teddy.

This was a CRAZY good book. I dunno anything about the BDSM community and lifestyle, but this book served as a mini primer as well as a compelling murder/mystery. Not usually my cup of tea, but I'm glad that I chose to broaden my horizons.

Kinda pricey, but worth the cost.👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥

Book Review: Obsession
June 15 — Sheri Cheatwood

"Hate me or love me... I get results!"
Well well well, Mr. Rashaan has done it again. Just when I thought he couldn't get any better than Tempest, he drops Obsession on me! I was lucky enough to recieve an ARC of Shakir Rashaan's Obsession before it hits stores this Tuesday and I must say this was an amazing read!

Obsession follows private investigator "Dom" or Dominic Law as he attempts to solve the case of the dead Dominant! Dom, who was last seen in Rashaan's "Nubian Underworld" has now joined forces with Ramesses (the star of the Nubian Underworld series) to run a successful kink P.I. firm where they specialize in solving cases where foul play may have been involved. Dom is approached by known submissive, peaches, who needs help finding her Master, who has been missing for a week. Dom soon finds out things are not what they seem and realizes that this case might be harder to crack than he thought.

What I really liked about this novel was the mystery aspect. I love a good mystery novel and I never knew someone could combine mystery and erotica. This being my first experience with the combination of these two genres I really wasn't sure what to expect. I honestly thought this would be just another erotic yet juicy tale of the Nubian Underworld, which would've also been fine, but the added touch of mystery gave it a lot more power and it kept me wanting more! I hear there are two more books in this series and I cannot wait to get my hands on them! For fans of Shakir Rashaan's earlier work, you will not be disappointed with Obsession.

Yes ladies this is a must read book by :Shakir Rashaan. The Kink. P.I. Series Book# 1, is a page turner. It will keep you guessing a lot. OBSESSION puts P.I. Dom aka (Dominic Law) thought the wringer, when women he knows are turning up dead. That is only part of the problem. He has to find out who would want kill a well known dominant. The problem is this puzzle has many twist and turns, that he uses the the help of his two sexy submissives to bring these cases to a close.I won't give anything away to fan of Shakir Rashann. But I do have a question for Shakir Rashann, I had a feeling Nikia should not be trusted as much as she is. I believe her hands are dirty in some way. It was great to see that Ramesses was large and in charge but behind the scenes. Ladies please read the Nubian Underworld Series before you read OBSESSION.!!!

Mr. Rashaan, you've done it again! By given the reader/fan another fabulous yet intriguing story than not only gives one insight into how betrayal or even misguided emotions can torpedo ones perception(s) of love, thus making a person(s) behavior go sideways whether his/her tastes lies within the vanilla/kink world or in somewhere in between.... All I can say is, PI Dominic will make one wonder ladies, sorry no "Spoiler(s) here, ha ha ha!

I could not get into it. Dominic Law seems sexy, confident, and then some. But his character did not draw me into the story. I am a big erotic lover and fan. With that being said; no book written like this should make me laugh constantly, or go okay, what’s next. But this book had me asking, saying, and praying for the end.
A good erotic read should cause a little spark, some type of desire! I got Nothing…absolutely nothing! I read scenes to my spouse to see if it was just me. The man just arched a brow and shook his head. This was my first time reading this author. I do plan to try another of his books, just because I found out he wrote a piece in Chocolate Flava and I love that Book. Maybe this book was just not for me.

This was not my kind of book at all, but I did finish. I didn't think I would, especially after the wedding photo was dropped at his feet and not pursued as a lead (that did not make any sense to me at all!). Not only did the lifestyle of the characters throw me off (just sounded like abuse to me), I got a little mixed up since there were so many female characters. But I will give the writer his props for being able to develop a story and keep the reader reading, despite not wanting to.
