In this fourth mystery in the charming and witty Gin & Tonic series, private investigators Ginny and Teddy—with the help of their faithful pets—must unravel their most intriguing case yet…

Even though she’s unlicensed as an investigator, the infamously nosy Ginny Mallard and her cohort Teddy Tonica have begun to make a name for themselves in solving cases. But Ginny still has her day job as an event planner, and the promise of a lucrative job draws her to Portland, with her shar-pei puppy, Georgie, in tow. Much to her shock and horror, however, she’s been led there under false pretenses—and discovers a body in the parlor of her client's house!

Though the cops warn her to keep her nose out of it, Ginny just can't resist the itch to solve this case, and soon gets drawn into Portland's seedy underbelly of identity theft, forgery, and of course, murder…with Teddy and his cat Penny's devoted sleuthing helping her at every turn.

Clawed is the second book I have had the chance to read in the Gin and Tonic Mystery series. I enjoyed Clawed just as much as I did Doghouse. I love a good mystery and when you add in a couple of adorable animals with it, well I am a happy reader.

Ginny Mallard and her loyal four legged companion Georgie are excited at the potential of a client in another town. Little do they know they are about to become a part of a big mystery that Ginny and her side kicks will be compelled to help solve.

Teddy Tonica and Miss Penny are left behind to hold down the fort and serve drinks while Ginny and Georgie are off investigating the mystery in Portland.

I think one of my favorite parts of this book was Ginny and Georgie investigating things together. As Ginny works her way through the neighborhood talking to the people, Georgie helps out by asking the fur members of the community questions as well.

Ginny and Teddy works so well together. They each have different strengths when it comes to investigating and chatting with possible witnesses or suspects. It's entertaining to watch these two working together to get to the bottom of a mystery.

I love how L.A. Kornetsky includes Georgie and Penny in the mystery investigations. Georgie and Penny have some really cute scenes and talks between them. They do a great job trying to help their humans head in the right direction to solve the mystery.

The mystery and suspense in this book is great. While trying to get to the bottom of the case they end up in a touchy and dangerous situation. It's always interesting to see them work their way out of these situations. Even though it's quite dramatic there is also plenty of humor.

The scenes with the fur characters are just plain adorable and entertaining. I think I fell in love with Georgie and Penny in Doghouse and I was so please to see them again in Clawed. I will be anxious to see what wonderful mystery L.A. Kornetsky comes up with for her next Gin and Tonic Mystery. I'm curious to see if Ginny goes ahead to get her official PI license and what mischief she can find. I know I will be looking forward to reading the next story in this great series.

Clawed is part of The Gin and Tonic Mystery series. I had not read the previous books before Doghouse and I had no trouble reading it as a stand alone. I think Clawed could easily be read as a stand alone as well. I don't think you will feel like you are missing any pertinent information to the story by starting the series with Clawed. L. A. Kornetsky does a great job of filling in any details and making these books easily read as stand alones.

If you, like me, LOVE fur characters and a good mystery you need to check out this great series. I think you will enjoy it. I know I certainly did.

I was given the opportunity to read this great book so that I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my pleasure to share my thoughts with you on Clawed.

Too disjointed. I think if the author had gone full out for the sidekick-pets-telepathically-communicate-and-help-solve type mystery this might have been cute and different. But she only half heartedly did this. She also only half-heartedly tried for a sassy girl protagonist. The book ends up being neither here nor there. Quite a few typos which was surprising. A poor, unbelievable (even for a book with communicating pets) ending. In all too many flaws to let slide.

Animals were OK, it was rather easy read, however there was not much action or plot.

Suspenseful long distance mystery for our heroes, with the animals very frustrated by the distance. Another quick, fun read.

"Clawed" is the third book that I've read in the Gin & Tonic series, having somehow missed book two. By now the characters are well established. Ginny, "Gin" and Teddy, "Tonic" still push each other's buttons but now it's mostly for fun, because they can, instead of genuinely trying to get a rise out of the other. They've become friends and business partners. There's a tiny hint of romance and honestly, I hope that Kornetsky doesn't go there. I think their relationship would lose something if they became involved romantically. But I digress. Teddy and Ginny have a strong relationship; they can anticipate each other's thoughts and behavior, recognize each others strengths and flaws, and they support each other.

When Ginny is offered a new assignment for her paying, she happily accepts. But it's out of town which neatly separated Ginny and Teddy for much of the book, resulting the two of them coordinating but working separately. Ginny has to up her game with her interpersonal skills, when Teddy usually deals with people while Teddy is struggling to do some of the computer work that Ginny usually does. This set up made for a nice contrast, showing off their skill sets but also their growth over the series. Not only have they come to recognize the other person's strengths but they can acknowledge their own weak spots and then try, with mixed success, to improve.

The relationship between Georgie the dog and Mistress Penny-Drops, aka Penny, has also grown. I'm a cat person, I know the author is too, and she's got cat behavior and attitude down perfectly. I'm less of a dog person but her portrayal seems accurate. In this world Georgie and Penny can communicate almost telepathically. Happily, that doesn't extend to communicating with humans. Just like their humans, they're having to work with the benefit of being in the same city which bothers Penny no end. She really really, really didn't like it. :D Georgie is not too happy about it either. But they manage to help their respective humans nonetheless.

Where the story fell apart for me was the mystery itself. It was overly complicated, with convenient coincidences, lots of loose threads, and pieces that just didn't seem to fit while other times threads were dropped completely. The case was not wrapped and tied with a neat little bow which is actually okay.Or it would have been okay if the overall story and mystery had been tighter. In real life there are loose ends and some things that never get explained but this came across more as if Kornetsky wrote herself into a corner and couldn't get out.

There's one part of the ending that has me intrigued and I will read the next book if only to see where Kornetsky goes with it and how it plays out. Ginny and Teddy have been atypical investigators from the start, which has been a large part of their appeal. But after several years, changes are coming, and I for one an curious.

"Clawed" was not Kornetsky's best book, it's flawed, but even so, I'm not done with the series.

It's Mystery Month in the book world. and I have about 50 mysteries on my Kindle. 30 days and 50 mysteries. Don't think I will get them all read.

Today's entry is an OK start with a cozy mystery called Clawed by L.A. Kornetsky, due out at the end of the month. It is the fourth in the series called "A Gin and Tonic Mystery" a name that is just too cute for words. Ginny is the "Gin" and Ted Tonica is the "Tonic." See what I mean! Ginny has a dog and Tonica has a cat, who are buddies and the four complete the crime fighting, but unlicensed, PI entourage. In another "cute" touch, the thoughts of the cat and dog are written in italics as they help their masters solve the crime.

In Clawed, Ginny is invited to Portland from her home base in Seattle to plan an event for an older woman. She is paid a $2000 retainer, but when she arrives at the woman's house, she finds a dead man under the kitchen table. Apparently there is no woman because the house is owned by the dead man. Rather than returning home and forgetting the whole thing, Ginny decides to pursue the situation against the advice of Tonica who has remained in Seattle.

The plot meanders from there. Other than the delightful relationship between Ginny and Tonica and the animals, the character development is marginal at best, and the plot really doesn't make much sense. However, if you are sitting in the dentist's office or waiting for an airplane, it might be a decent diversion.

Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine. - Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart), Casablanca

Ginny walked into Mary's neighborhood bar ... and might borrow Rick's other famous line, "Teddy, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship." Ginny (with George the dog) and Teddy (with Penny the cat) have turned their friendship into a budding hobby of private investigation in three previous novels. For their fourth adventure, CLAWED, Ginny's event planning business takes her (and George) out of town, leaving Teddy (and Penny) out of sorts. Yet Portland welcomes Ginny with a dead body in the house of her new client. Although the police (and Teddy) advise her to let the "pros" do their job, Ginny can't but take an interest in the murder mystery. While Ginny and George poke their nose around Portland, Teddy and Penny run background checks on the victim and the client. Teddy ultimately joins Ginny in Portland where they uncover nefarious dealings in the suburbs.

CLAWED is a lighthearted cozy mystery laced with humor, friendship, and fur therapy. The plot follows the standard path with false leads and unorthodox methods. Kornetsky keeps it fresh with the unique relationship between humans and pets. Think Cheers meets Lassie.

I received an ARC from Pocket Books for an honest review.

Clawed by L. A. Kornetsky

This is another pet's are smart mystery. Ms. Kornetsky has Georgie, the Sharpei, and Miss Penny, the cat as major characters. This mystery brings Ginny into conflict with both the police and a mysterious murderer.

Once again I am appreciative of the relationship between Ginny and Teddy as well as the relationship between Georgie and Miss Penny. There is amusing musing by Miss Penny in this story.

The relationship growth between the two humans is glacially slow. However it leads one to believe there will be more volumes to come which is welcome.

The skill illustrated by the less than dynamic duo are further honed in this story and even appreciated in some law enforcement areas.

Complimentary skills makes for a good couple and it seems that may be the direction the two human protagonists are moving. Miss Penny on the other hand, doubts that Georgie will ever be able to function without her help.

I enjoyed the book and look forward to sequels.
I am enjoying this series, see my review of Collared

Ginny Mallard (concierge), & Georgie (Ginny’s Shar-pei) are headed to Portland, OR for her 1st. job.
Ginny arrives only to find her client Mrs. Adaowsky (72, retired teacher) dead.

Will she be blamed?
Teddy Tonica (P/T PI, bartender, Seattle) & Penny (bar cat) try to help Ginny solve the murder mystery.

Will Ginny & Ted solve the crime before the Portland P/D does?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written murder mystery book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great murder mystery movie, or mini TV series. 1 for the pet lovers. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

Thank you for the free Goodreads; Simon & Schuster; Pocket Books; paperback book

I've only read the book before this one and I think you could pick this one up with no problems as well. You would know there is back story but nothing of such import that you can't follow along. While this one seemed to have less of Georgie and Penny (the dog and cat respectively) but they were still involved enough to lend some humor to the case.

I have to say that this mystery had a lot of twists and turns and I found myself more invested in the people in the story than solving the murder. I was more interested in why Ginny was called down there and then framed for a murder. She was easily cleared but she had to know why she became involved with people she never met. It was an interesting twist in getting Gin and Tonic involved.

I give this book 3 1/2 stars and did enjoy this cozy. I LOVED Penny (the cat) solving the mystery of the stolen tips when none of the humans were any wiser. It really gave the story a push in the humorous direction. I recommend this book to those that enjoy cozy mysteries with a side of dog and cat commentary. :)

Kornetsky's Gin and Tonic series are the best of cozies. Fantastic characters who we've seen grow over the course of four books and plenty of mysteries to solve. I especially like the interplay between the four-footed characters Mistress Pennydrops and Georgie.

This book mostly takes place in Portland, where Ginny is meeting an out of town client. She's hoping this will help expander her burgeoning concierge business. Unfortunately, all she finds at the client meeting is a dead body. With Tonica back home in Seattle, it's more difficult to solve this case, but they still manage with perseverance and a Skype connection.

I thought this book started out a bit slow, probably because Ginny and Georgie were in Portland, and Tonica and Penny still in Seattle. As the book progresses, the book solidifies, leaving the reader satisfied. If you've enjoyed the first three books in the series, don't miss out on this one.

I received this book from GoodReads. Although I enjoyed the antics of Ginny and Tonica with their cat Penny and Sharpei Georgie in their researchtigations, I am puzzled and left with so many questions. . It was a pleasant "cozy" murder mystery with elements of whimsy . My one dissatisfaction: elements of the story were not integrated into consistent ending. We never know who initially hired Ginny, who is Michal, why the Feds were involved in the investigation, what role Dave and Ben played in WHATEVER was going on, and who the mystery woman is ( IS she Michal??), and what was on the thumb drive???? AND why did young Kim come to Mary's 3 months after she was deposited on the bridge?? It was too much like reading half a book and finding the rest was left out by the publisher.

I would read more in this series. Things done well: Characterization of the pets was interesting without being too unrealistic. I enjoyed the way the cat and dog worked through their limitations of animal-ness, and helped without being "magical." I enjoy animal mysteries, because the multiple plot lines keep me interested. There were several plot twists that kept me guessing.
Thing I would change: I didn't understand the motivations or thoughts of the main woman, Ginny. She seemed to do a lot of things randomly, even though she was supposed to be pretty smart.
2. A lot of the descriptions/adjectives were very repetitive (the dog is like a marshmallow).
3. The plotline was unrealistic, but that's expected of mystery novels so not too bad.
4. It was a good book, but there wasn't a lot that stood out as unique to me, having read several other books/series in this genre.

This is the first of this series I've read. I was a little disappointed that the animals together weren't move involved in solving the crime. Their separation did add to their attachment to each other. Ginny did find the body but she had a strong alibi so she was never really considered part of the investigation by the police. The story was interesting with several twist and turns it kept you guessing whodunit and why. Although these questions were resolved not everything was concluded like agent Asuri part of this story could return. I received this book form Goodreads.

Ginny really could get herself in a mess. Even after finding a dead body and her fingerpints on stuff in a house she had no business entering since nobody had answered the door for her. Didn't even answer the phone when she called. She still went back to check around.

Took me a few days off and on to finish. Lots of questions still no answers for when book ends. So can only give it a 3 star rating.

This entry in the Gin and Tonic series does have a murder, and while Ginny and Teddy would normally leave this to the professionals, the fact the Ginny has been drawn out of town to the house where she ends up finding the body makes her unable to let it go. Not my favorite, though a good entry. I just found the way they got Ginny from Seattle to Portland to be a little improbable. that's a quibble, though. Fun read.
