Happy O'Brian spent the better part of his life isolated from the rest of the world. He was told he was evil down to his soul. It was physically beat into him on a daily basis. He lived with it, believing that his ultra conservative religious grandparents were right until the day his mother was attacked. Seeking help changed Happy's life in ways he could never imagine and showed him a world he didn't know existed.
Answering a disturbance call, Deputy Marc Walker meets a man that shocks him with his gentleness. When he discovers Happy's true nature, Marc wants to know everything about the man. He wants to show him the world.
When the past rears its head, and their lives are put in danger, Happy tries to do the right thing and distance himself from his handsome deputy. But Marc has other plans for his gentle giant and he's not going to let a little thing like getting shot or having escaped prisoners gunning for them interfere with those plans. Happy will get his happy ever after. Some graphic depiction of extreme violence against the hero when he was a minor. ** A Siren Erotic Romance
About Me I believes the only thing sexier than a man in cowboy boots is two, or three men in cowboy boots. I also believes in love at first sight, soul mates, true love, and happy endings.
I live in the great Northwest region of the USA, with my gorgeous husband and soul mate, two boxer/collie puppies, one old biddy cats, and three fish. When I'm not being a mother to my six teenagers or cleaning up after my two 70 pound lap puppies, you can usually find me cuddled in bed with a book in my hand and a puppy in my lap. Or on my laptop, creating the next sexy man for one of my stories.

These books are totally cheesy but I love them. I love Marc and Happy. I'm a sucker for a gentle giant.
Originally read March 2017
So, I was a little worried reading this one. Happy was borderline too childlike for me. It was totally understandable and when I figured out he wasn't actually mentally slow but just didn't have the knowledge of how things worked, I felt better. He was just a gentle giant. Marc was really patient and understanding with him. I was glad Happy had someone to love him. Everyone deserves someone to love and care about them. I'd really like to see his mom, Anna, get a HEA too.
I'll continue on with these until I overdose on cheese lol.
I got confused at a few points through this book. Through the start, we are told that it takes Happy little longer to process things in his mind than everyone else. While this is consistent through most of the book, there are a few parts where that doesn't seem true at all, and some of these moments are kind of important. Also when Happy and Marc first spend the night together I don't get how they go from Happy being unsure and taking things slow to full steam ahead. ( im sorry if his seems unclear but I couldn't think of how to word it without sounding incredible crude)
I loved this book. Happy was the best and what was done to him and his mother was horrible. I think his grandparents got off too easy. Two of the most evil people. It's a little rough reading what happened to them at the beginning but keep reading so you can read about Happy and Marc's love story.
Cade Creek is a typical small town in many ways, but some of the people inhabiting it are definitely exceptional. This goes both ways—some of them are very good, but some are so evil, I was ready to strangle them or worse. The main characters are sweet, the supporting characters are interesting and added to the story, and even though the first few pages were hard for me to get through because of all the (fairly graphical) emotional and physical abuse Happy was put through as a child and young man, the story as a whole left me feeling happy. I think this is a very promising first book in a spin-off series from the ‘Blaecleah Brothers’ books. It is linked only through the setting and a few characters reappearing, so there is no need to read the other books first.
Happy is an amazing man. He suffered terribly as a child, abused by bible-thumping grandparents who were beyond cruel, with his equally abused mother as the only person he could trust and love. How Happy survived what he did can only be called a miracle, but even the permanent damage he suffered does not stop him from embracing life once he finally gets away from his a**hole grandfather. Happy’s way of looking at the world is very different, and I loved how simple his thinking is. There is no hiding from the truth or trying to be politically correct, Happy has an innate sense of right and wrong that is enviable and he doesn’t let anyone tell him differently. He may be slower than some people but he does learn, and his inner compass will not steer him wrong. I loved following him through the first stirrings of romantic love, and watching him figure out what was going on, then opening up to Marc, was a real joy.
Marc is also pretty special. He is one of those men who look beyond the obvious, and his sense of who Happy is proves to be very accurate. He is also very sensitive to Happy’s needs, yet doesn’t treat him like a kid or like someone less mentally able. Marc is a good deputy, and once he has fallen for Happy (which is pretty much immediately upon meeting him). Marc is determined to do everything he can to make Happy even happier. He has a huge fight ahead of him, but Marc does not give up easily—or at all. I loved Marc’s ideas and way of showing Happy what he’s been missing, like introducing him to the farmers market or even strawberry milkshakes. Too cute!
If you like your romances on the sweet side and are willing to suffer with the main characters until they get there, if gentle giants and the men who love them are your thing, and if you’re looking for a read that is as sweet and hot as it is emotionally touching, then you will probably like this novel as much as I did.
Hit a pet peeve of mine. I really hate it when MC1 says - We will take it as slow as you need to - but then in the next paragraph they are going full steam ahead for anal sex.
WTF, dude? Why bother with the "we'll go slow" if they are just going to screw like bunnies two minutes later? Just saying it doesn't make the first character look better if he isn't going to stick with it. It actually makes him look like a colossal dick. "Yeah, I know you are a virgin, you've never even kissed, we'll take slow. Now bend over and spread so I can do you."
*flat stare*

Oh dear god. Twenty-eight pages in I realized this is a Blaecleah spin-off. Good thing I didn’t know this from the start or I might have never picked this up. (Although, in hindsight…)
The two protagonists are sweet enough together, although Happy’s possibly a little too childlike for comfort. Or rather, he is not being informed enough of what is going on for him to be able to consent to my satisfaction. So even during the first half there’s that hint of Marc taking advantage of him, even though we know how much Happy wants to be close to him.
Still, things are going along nicely and I was ready to like this until… *deep breath* I really don’t get this. WTF happened here? Poor Happy has no idea what is going on either.
From that point on things are just bad. This is a stupid book. Irritating and badly written. I have neither interest nor the patience to dissect it.
Clearly, the author’s evil twin is still active. Then again this book does fit the series which spawned it.
Wow. I had no idea what I was getting into with this one. I actually think this might be my 2nd favorite Stormy Glenn (after Scales And A Tail). I didn't even know this was a spin-off. I only read 3 of the Blaecleah books.
Happy broke my heart. What he suffered was...there are no words. The love he has for his Mama...too damn sweet. There isn't anything he wouldn't do for her. Then Marc comes into his life and opens Happy up to a whole new world. I would have liked more about the town people though. Did they stop harassing Happy now that he's with Marc? Did John find out about the bike? I mean, it's mentioned once and then it disappeared.
I'm looking forward to more of this series. I would love to see Marc and Happy again.
The start of the Cade Creek series by Stormy Glenn is Happy’s Ever After. I really enjoyed the character of Happy. His name really fits him. He is a gentle giant who cares deeply for others despite the hard ships and violence he was raised with. Happy deserves the happy ending he gets he has more than earned it. Marc is the perfect man for Happy. He is a deputy. And a protective man by nature. He is patient and kind as well. Something that will make him the perfect match for Happy, who has not seen as much of the world as the rest of us.
There are some scenes that are not for the faint of heart. The abuse that Happy goes through is really bad, but it was essential to the plot that we know that. I felt Ms. Glenn handled everything with her usual grace and understand of the situation. She has an amazing voice as a writer and this story shows it very well. When you want to start a series with emotional angst and characters you will never forget this is the one for you.
I've come to the conclusion that to enjoy a Stormy Glenn novel you need to be prepared for a few things. There's going to be the damsel in distress, except its MM so I guess its called dude in distress. The MC's are going to fall in love with pretty much a click of fingers. They are going to be emotional and sappy way beyond what you would expect from an alpha male or even a female at that. They are going to break up for some strange reason and neither will fight for their love causing a few pages of angst before it is resolved. Then some enemy will try to kill them, they will win and then they will get married. This has pretty much been the plot of most of her novels that I've read. And, I liked it.
It was a short entertaining read. The start was very emotional, I hate abuse, but it gave me a sympathy for the character that carried me through the story hoping for his HEA. I recommend this to anyone who's looking for a quick steamy romance.
Only made it to 10%. I know it would eventually get better, but the fire and brimstone in the beginning was too much for me to handle. I'm sure it's a great book! But not for me.
Stormy Glenn sure loves her mentally challenged characters. She does it just right too.
This book starts with Happy being only 5 years old, living with his mom and his grandparents. It is clear from the start that the grandparents physically abuse both Happy and his mom.
When Happy is 17 he stops his grandfather from raping his mother. When he and his mother get shot after a fight with his grandfather, Happy carries his mother to the town.
3 years later Happy is living a good life. He and his mom are living in the house he grew up in, but his grandfather is in jail, and his grandmother died several years ago.
When Marc, the deputy in town, meets Happy, he is immediately attracted to the very large man. It is clear Happy is a bit slow, but nothing too bad. When Marc hears Happy’s background story, he is determined to never let anything bad happen to the sweet man ever again.
Happy doesn’t know what to do with the deputy’s attention. He feels butterflies in his stomach whenever Marc is around, but he isn’t sure Marc feels the same….
Happy was a lovely character. He was a bit slow, but he most definitely knew what was going on. And I just loved how protective Marc was and how sweet he was to Happy and his mom.
I thought the sex was a bit fast, especially since Happy didn’t know about sex before and also because his grandmother taught him sex was very wrong. I would figure he had a harder time getting over that, but no, Marc apparently had a magic penis.
But other than that this was entertaining and had some sugary sweet hurt/comfort Stormy Glenn style.
Wow. Just...wow. I had to do some thinking about this before I sat down to review "Happy's Ever After". The book was great. There's no doubt about that at all. Stormy Glenn always writes an excellent story with well fleshed out characters with real personalities, and Happy O'Brian and Marc Walker are no exceptions.
Here's a quick rundown of the story. Happy and his Mama spent years at the mercy of his overzealously religious grandparents. They were brutally beaten on a daily basis and told that they were the embodiment of sin itself. At the tender age of ten, Happy's grandfather beat him in the head with a brick, leaving him...and here's the thing I'm having trouble with...I don't know what word to use...slow? No doubt, his brain was damaged, especially since they never sought medical help for him. Fast forward to the present, and Happy is a (very large and handsome) man who is rather childlike. I would describe him as innocent. His grandfather is long gone, and he takes care of his Mama at the farm house. He's not had much exposure to the world. One day, Deputy Marc is called to a disturbance. Two men are beating on Happy. New to town, he isn't aware of the situation, but he feels a very intense need to protect this man.
The book takes off from there. We're given a story with tension and fear, but it's also a pure romance. Marc and Happy fall fast, but Marc is tender and doesn't push anything. He's genuinely concerned for his man...and his man's Mama. He includes her in their first "date", and he's more than happy to sit and visit with her when he comes to the farmhouse to be with Happy. I really like that about him. He was like a knight in shining armor, and I fell head over heels in love with him. The sex scenes are very hot, but they're also very sweet. Marc is very careful with Happy even with the overwhelming passion that they feel for each other. Just a perfect balance.
All in all, "Happy's Ever After" was an excellent book. Please don't be put off by Happy's innocence. He's not handicapped. He's just not worldly. By the end of the story, he was already learning about things, and he was looking forward to learning a lot more. I'm very excited for him, and I hope that Stormy Glenn will be able to give me a little bit more of Happy and Marc in future works. I'm VERY highly recommending this one.
This book is part of a series and should be read in order. Also this is a spin-off of the Blaecleah Brothers series and takes place in the same town with characters from that series showing up.
First a warning to readers. The first part of the story can be hard to take. The publishers note listed above is not for the faint of heart. But once you make it through Happy’s younger years it becomes absolutely amazing to read.
Happy and his mother have a very hard life. Happy’s mother was a young fifteen year old girl who was taken advantage of and became pregnant with Happy. Her parents were super religious and punished both their daughter and her son. I’m talking real Hell and Brimstone kind of shit. Mother and son finally get out of the hellish situation when Happy is seventeen. His grandfather takes things too far and Happy saves both himself and his mother.
Due to a beating Happy took at a young age he is a bit slower than normal, but far from stupid. Once things are explained or shown to him he understand perfectly well. He is also the sweetest most loving man. He loves his mother with all his heart. Since their escape from their grandfather and with help from locals he has been able to take of his mother and himself. While working at a local business he is bullied by a couple of guys and the police are called in to the disturbance.
Here is where Happy meets his future.
Marc is a deputy who responds to the disturbance. He is immediately attracted to the bigger than life Happy. He quickly learns that Happy is a gentle giant and wants to get to know him better. Marc does not look down on Happy for his slowness or not understanding of everything. He is patient and understanding, and has no problem explaining things. He also knows that Happy is a package deal with his mother and has no problem with that. Marc will do anything for Happy and that is what Happy deserves in a true partner.
Marc and Happy are beautiful together and I loved them.
This book roped me in from the start and gave me all I wanted. It had loving partners, excitement, action, and hot sexy moments. This will definitely be added to my re-read collection of books.
When the new deputy sheriff Marc Walker is called to a disturbance, he encounters the largest man he has a ever seen in his life. The man also has the most amazing blue eyes Marc has ever seen. But Happy O’Brian, a gentle giant, comes with baggage: having been abused by his grandparents for most of his life he left the farm he grew up on for the first time when he was 20. A year later, he is still bewildered by the things he encounters. He doesn’t like crowds and it takes him longer to understand situations. But he likes Marc, the pretty new deputy. He knows Marc wants to be his friend, but can he ever be good enough for someone like him? This is the first book in the Cade Creek series and loosely connected to the Blaecleah Brothers series.
I enjoyed this book very much. Happy is such a gentle, loving person you can’t help but wish the best for him. Marc immediately understands how special and wonderful happy is and is drawn to him from the beginning; he wants to show him the world and make up for all the evil Happy has encountered. The secondary characters are engaging and funny. A good read.
this book will tug at every single one of your heart strings no matter how much you wish it not too.
Happy show's us that a more simplistic view of the world can sometimes be better, than seeing things in black and white is not always harmful.
what that man has lived through is in incredible, and this may be horrible of me to say but his mama, should of sent to the sheriff a lot sooner, i think her character is a weak one that makes happy lives through worse than what he should live through.
¡¡¡Amo a Happy!!!
Where to begin? Hmmm, Happy is mentally challenged (not sure if that is the PC term) and seems to be high functioning but I just really felt uncomfortable because the story could not make me believe that he can truly consent.. everything just happened so fast in the ‘relationship’ and he was supposed to be slow and had no real exposure to other people and not really socially aware.. The development of the romantic relationship just felt like the poor guy was rushed into a sexual relationship that kinda was an emotional blackmail way before he actually understood the world.. Marc the deputy sent him away after Happy said he wants to be friends and Marc just came off as an insensitive a*hole who couldn’t stop thinking with his d*ck and try to understand that Happy was just not all there and needs time to process everything
I will admit that I over-looked this series for quite a while but my interest was piqued after recently reading the blurb. I’ve always liked Stormy Glenn’s work but it had been awhile since I’d read anything from Siren so that’s why I over-looked this series.
I’m really very glad that I gave it a go. This is a spinoff from her Blaecleah Brothers Cowboy series, which I really enjoyed. This book takes place in Cade Creek, a small farming town where everyone knows each other and your neighbors look out for one another.
Happy O’Brian and his mother, Anna have been isolated from the rest of the town for years and suffered physical abuse at Anna’s parents, Happy’s grandparents. Happy is slightly mentally challenged (a result of the physical abuse) gentle giant of a man who adores and is protective of his mama. If there was a character that deserved a HEA in a book, he and Anna were it.
Deputy Marc Walker meets Happy while he was being harassed by the town’s bullies and is immediately smitten by the beautiful, gentle giant. Marc loves Cade Creek and his job as a deputy but he comes home to an empty house every night.
The romance that develops between Happy and Marc is absolutely wonderful. You realize that even though Happy has suffered so much abuse at the hands of people who were supposed to love him, he had the most loving soul and beautiful spirit. I adored Happy’s character. He was a beautiful man-child, gentle giant.
If you enjoyed the Blaecleah brothers and family, you’re in luck because they make appearances in this story.
This book was heartbreaking in places. The abuse Happy and his mother suffered at the hands of her parents is sickening and a bit hard to read in the beginning so if those are your triggers, I would skip those parts.
There were a few minor editing mishaps but not enough to distract and didn’t deflect from the overall enjoyment of the story.
This book is part of a series and as such should be read in sequential order. It is also recommended that you read the Blaecleah Brothers Cowboy series as the characters cross over into this series.

I am such a sucker for a good hurt/comfort and I instantly fell in love with Happy. My heart broke for him, the life he lived at the hands of his zealot grandparents. The abuse he endured, he and his mother both, who’d been so young when she was taken advantage of at such a young age. When we meet five year old Happy, sneaking into his mother’s room at night to see her, I just cried for him.
Now, I’ll point out that it doesn’t take much for me to cry… I’m a crier, but if that didn’t break your heart, I dunno what will.
So, after a few glimpses into Happy’s childhood, we see him as an adult… his grandma long gone and his grandpa in jail, he’s doing work for a local market, just odd jobs to collect enough money to take care of his mother. They pretty much stay to themselves in their home outside of town, and Happy, a little bit slow, on account of the abuse as a child, and never having proper schooling… he meets Deputy Marc who chases away some idiots causing him trouble. Marc is taken with him immediately, surprised at having grown up in the town and never having met him.
Marc befriends Happy and his mom Anna and though Happy doesn’t realize it straight away, Happy is taken with Marc too. I loved these two together. Marc was so patient, getting to know Happy and letting Happy get to know him. Being sweet to Happy’s mother and letting them both know that he was there as a friend and that they could count on him. He was amazing, with both of them. Anna especially wary, with good reasons, I don’t wanna give them away.
Happy is so inexperienced and had been so sheltered his whole life, he just didn’t know what to do with Marc. He’d never had a friend before, let alone a boyfriend, which is what Marc wanted, even though he took things at a slow and respectable pace.
Honestly, I could gush on this story forever, it’s probably one of the best reads so far this year. It was just a beautiful story of love, acceptance, courage, family and trust. I just loved it. I’d love to see more from these two and their future together, though if not, I’m so glad they found each other. Fingers crossed, though !
Love this book love happy he comes across as so innocent maybe not as fast as some people with his thinking to he really is just needs things explaining a bit more and how he is with is mum is lovely and how joe is with him so patient and wanting to protect him they are great together.i have read this more then once now and would read again.
Great read! A bit too short and abrupt for my liking, but it’ll do. Can’t quite put my finger on what is keeping this book from a 5-star, but enjoyed it nonetheless.
Happy and Marc find each other ! (Graphic descriptions of abuse and violence)
Happy, 20, spent most of his life in the basement or being beaten, isolated from people and the world. He is a gentle giant, who loves his Mom, but hates his grandfather. Marc, a Deputy in Cade Creek, who comes to the rescue, and sees something in Happy, no one else has. We open with Happy sneaking into his Mom's room so they can be together. Happy rescues her, and then in the present, Happy is at work at Gus's store, where Happy is being harassed by two jerks. Marc answers the 911 call and meets Happy.
Intrigued, he wants to know Happy better. Marc asks Happy and his Mom to go to the market, and begins to talk with him and get closer. After Happy's grandfather escapes a prison bus, the search is on, because he'll be after Happy and his Mom.
Our two men are kissing and then more, as Marc explains things to sheltered virgin, Happy. Marc is patient, understanding and caring, plus Marc's protective nature takes over. The horrible grandfather shows up, there's more going on than anyone knew. It's tense, suspenseful, bloody and violent. We get gunshots, rescue, injuries and confusion. I needed tissues, and I also was furious about the abuse.
There's lots of action, and love, to go around, with a heartwarming finale, too. ENJOY !
Takes place in the same world/town as the Blaechleah family series, so there’s lot of mention of them here. There are a LOT of typos, as if there was no beta reader or even an editor, surprising for SG. But a word to the wise: there are a handful of large print warnings - even one in red - about the evils of book piracy and stealing this author’s work (fair enough) but only one pretty small warning about the extremely detailed, graphic violence that takes place in the first couple of chapters. I’ll say this, if you can read graphic depictions in true crime then this should be a walk in the park.
Cute light read. Poor Happy went through so much. Marc was so great with him. A little bit of action and the love scene was so emotional. I was almost crying. Wish there was a little more mystery or action. But it was a good book I liked it.
