Daphne Summers, ex-figure-skater and incurable romantic, has been obsessed with early 2000s romcoms her entire life—basically the same amount of time she’s been in love with her best friend’s older brother. But when he breaks her heart in high school and moves away for college without a word, she swears him off for good. Four years later, a month before their sophomore year, Daphne and her best friend transfer universities, moving into the Summers’ lake cabin, ready for a new adventure.
Mason Holt, starting goalie for the Northern Minnesota Mammoths, has to stay focused and get through his senior year to have the only thing he’s ever wanted—to play professional hockey. But when the girl he’s spent the last four years trying—and failing—to move on from walks back into his life, he begins to question his plans for the future. After a heated confrontation on the ice, they go their separate ways, not knowing everything is about to change.
The next morning, Daphne wakes up, but she’s not in her bed, her clothes, or even her own body. After a glimpse in the mirror and a major freak out, she discovers she’s switched bodies with Mason. Chaos ensues as they navigate their wild new normal, sticking together to protect their bizarre secret while trying to figure out how to switch back. As they see each other’s lives from a new point of view and build a deep connection no one else could ever understand, they’re faced with a new problem.
When they find a way back, will they continue to cling to one another, and discover a love better than any on screen, or will they watch their passion melt away and lose everything that could’ve been?
this was a fun concept. i love the movie freaky friday and sports romances and this was the combination of the two. and he cooks for her!!!! however, i thought the switch up element would have lasted longer? i do wish we got more yearning for one another. overall, this was a fun and quick read (275 pages) with some cutie moments!
ex figure skater and romance movie obsessed daphne has been in love with her best friend’s older brother for years until he ghosts her. four years later, they end up in the same college. mason, goalie for the college’s hockey team has to get through the season ignoring the feelings he’s had for daphne. after a heated confrontation among the two on the ice, they wake up in each others bodies (think freaky friday). this is where it gets funny watching them try to navigate and how to swap back.
tropes: first love / second chance, college hockey romance, celiac rep, hockey goalie x ex figure skater, dual pov, best friends older brother, small town, early 2000 romcom vibes, body swapping
Let me just start by saying Kyla I am so sorry. I saw this cover and description and thought omg yay! A cute fun easy buddy read, no. NO. Considering I've reccomended the last three books Kyla has read and they were all five stars and then I unknowingly dragged her into this dumpster fire... I feel so disgusted . So yeah there's my apology, please read mile high to rectify this mistake and you may burn me by stake tomorrow as a punishment.
Secondly this book was terrible. Not bad writing, not bad characters, not shaky plot, but ALL of it combined. First off Daphne and Mason are insufferable. They spend the entire time moping. THE ENTIRE TIME. Oh and make sure you don't forget she's gluten free. (You won't)
With all the complaining it almost makes me wonder how in the world they managed 4 years apart. Four years apart btw which is explained very horribly, it's explained "She graduated two years after me" and somehow 2+2=4 so wtf is this?
His entire reasoning for breaking up with her is "I was too scared to love you" HUH? Genuinely wtf? Are you gonna leave on our wedding day bc you got scared? Are you going to abandon our kids because you loved them so much? He also excuses leaving by saying he "Didn't want to date his sister's bestfriend." Newsflash Mason you've been dating her for like years....
Bringing my next point to his sister who is an absolute terrible friend and just a waste of space entirely. His sister whom is meant to be our main character's bestfriend sells her out soooo many times. Despite knowing Daphne doesn't want to speak to him she allows him to go to her room to check on her, she sells daphne out for not having a date, she... I don't need more examples . She sucks. Secondly she literally is barely on the page. They give her a boyfriend and she is with him 98% of the time. Not complaining I guess, I didn't want her on my page anyways.
Mason and Daphne please leave my favorite pieces of media alone. Mentioning 27 dresses, ice princess, sabrina the teenage witch, AND she's all that? I'm so shocked someone can have good taste and then... this.
The entire book is based on a body switch, which is confusing consdering it's the least prominent part of the book. It provides no problems for our characters, genuinely none. They say he taught her some hockey and she magically wins the games, he can do figure skating tricks no problems. The best part of a body switch is the struggles characters face. Daphne and Mason faced none. It also barely lasted, they switched for a couple chapters and then switched back and never really discussed it.
So anyways Mason gives his pity party apology, they kiss, and all is well. She instantly forgives him. So then we go on a date. AND THEY BREAK THE LAW? Newsflash rollercoaster screams and moaning sound very different. I'm calling the cops. I was so disgusted I had to genuinely stop reading for a minute.
Continuing forward more disgusting smut and countless mentions of gluten free food. Every single time without fail food is mentioned gluten free will be mentioned as well. There is a very pointless third act conflict, it felt redundant. You've spent the entire book on that dilemma only for her to even consider not getting back together?
They end up together, alive sadly, and the book finally ends. 270 pages has never felt so long. I didn't want to keep reading at a single point. Thank goodness it's over.
How does this have such a high average rating... do you guys need help? Did you body swap with someone who's tasteless?

Thank you for the opportunity to ARC read this, in exchange for an honest review! 🫶🏻
3.5 ⭐️ (rounded up to 4) 2 🌶️
This book was a quick and sweet read! The concept had me hooked and running to sign up to ARC read this.
Pros: Incredibly sweet, Mason is such a green flag, doting golden retriever. The care and consideration he took to make sure everything moved at Daphne's pace-so he could win her back-was swoon-worthy. The dates, the cooking for her condition, the freakin' tattoo... ugh! Loved. The banter in this was nice. Daphne is definitely no girl to mess with. Good for her for protecting her heart.
Cons: I wish I had more of their backstory. Would have given their 'enemy' status in the beginning more build up. I also wish the switch wasn't so quick, nor so- I don't know- ordinary. It hardly seemed to faze them that they just wound up that way, IMHO. It was hardly mentioned after they switched back, which-if that were real life- would be huge. The book was short. I don't think it could have hurt to have a few more chapters to explore it more.
All in all, the story was good. The writing had me hooked, and I read this in just a few hours. If you're a fan of late 90's/early 00's romcoms, it is a must read!
Mason…yearning and in pain because he’s so in love…yeah 10/10
The perfection of slow burn, angst, and pure love that was this book. It had the best build of trust and relationship after years of pain and hurt being left to fester. Mason had a lot to own up to and make up for, and as someone who thinks the grovel in books is never enough, this one satisfied me. Not because it had grand gestures or over-the-top declarations. But because I could truly feel the pain Mason was in, the regret, the need to make everything right and have his girl. How he learnt things for her, changed plans, made her the most important thing in his life...he proved time and again how much he loved her, and I was rooting for him.
And don't get me wrong, I did forgive Mason, but Daphne was 100% in the right to make him grovel and suffer a little. She was left alone, ghosted without explanation, and then had the accident. That girl was resilient and so strong. She didn't let the injury stop her from being on the ice, from finding a different purpose but with the same passion. She was so great, and even in her indecision, I could never find her annoying because I understood her.
I loved the humor, the way this felt fantastical and real at the same time. Pru, this book was so good, you should be PROUD!! And of course, the Gluten-free representation. I love how she always highlights some kind of silent affliction in her
Also, I'm kinda needing a Jackson x Maeve story now...
Thank you, Pru, for this e-arc. I have no words to express how much it means to me that I read this early!!
Me: thinking I didn't have that many quotes because this book was so fast and easy to read, though VS Me: seeing ALL the quotes I had lol.
Quotes:
I want so badly to find a love strong enough to triumph over any hurdle, like the stories I grew up on.
I've been hers all this time, even though she doesn't know it.
I'm not the same boy that she once knew. I'm now a man, hopelessly in love with the one girl who despises me.
For every shooting star, she will always be wish. If only a wish would give me a second chance with Daphne.
It's like every breath I've taken over the last four years without her can't compare to the fresh, crisp air I breathe around her now.
It's time I accept, once and for all, that Daphne Summers will always be the only girl for me.
I am on a mission to earn her trust back—and maybe her heart along the way too.
Every cell in my body is vibrating, every nerve standing on edge and drifting her direction, desperate for her touch.
Now that we're in our own bodies, I just need to make her feel comfortable enough to let me back in.
Am I the dumb main character who doesn't realize the love she's spent her entire life looking for has been right here all along?
"I'm a dying man right now, Daphne. Not being able to touch you or kiss you is slowly killing me."
I just want to impress her and win her back, and every step of the way on that journey matters.
She's it for me, and she always will be.
"You look—like the rest of my life."
There is something about her being such a little brat that makes me want to kiss her fucking senseless until that mouth of hers can only beg me for more.
I want nothing more than for her sassy mouth to keep telling me off. It makes me happy, and it turns me on.
Fuck, I've loved her for as long as I can remember.
I'm also tired of trying to convince myself that the tattoo on my back isn't for her. But it is; it always has been.
Her fingers intertwine with mine, and I nearly forget about the task at hand.
I'd be at the alter tomorrow if she wanted.
Can I tell her that I'm not going to eat anything here in case I get the opportunity to kiss her? I don't want to risk having any gluten in my mouth.
"What would you prefer? Doll? Babe? Bad girl?" Her eyebrows twitch, and I lower my voice, speaking right against her plump pink lips. "Good girl?" "What about"—I pause—" my good girl?" "That one. Got it."
"You get off on teasing me in public, Sunset. I love it."
"But I make no promises that I won't beg, helplessly and pathetically for your touch."
"Don't you get it, Daphne? I'm yours completely, regardless if you're mine."
"Everyone's going to be shouting and screaming on this roller coaster because of the turns and drops." "But I want you screaming because of me."
"Be my good fucking girl and come for me. I want you dripping down my fingers when we plummet down this drop."
Mason: How am I supposed to focus on anything when I can't stop thinking about you?
Me: What will I do? I need them. Mason: Yeah? Well, I need you.
Mason: Are you trying to offer me sexual favors in exchange for gluten-free food?
Mason: Damn straight if I'm lucky. I'm just grateful to breathe the same air as you, Sunset.
Mason: I'll take whatever you give me with a smile on my fucking face.
"Daphne, you have no idea the things I've dreamed of doing to you over the years. Endless. Countless. It would take an eternity to explore them all."
"I love you, and I'm serious about us. I want us to be together, really together. If you want that too, then I'm yours. If you don't ... hell, I'm yours even then. But I want more. I want all of it. And I want it with you."
We're meant to be together-I know that. If I have to, I'll spend the rest of my life earning her love.
She's consumed me, my entire being, and I'm helplessly at her mercy. I'm in my arena, in my own element, and all I can do is think about her.
And wearing my jersey. My girl. My girl. My fucking girl!
"Want me to show you all of the dirty, vile things I've fantasized of doing to you?"
"Do you know I used to dream night after night about burying myself so deep inside of you?"
"Be my good girl and come all over my face."
She wants to take it all, and that's the hottest thing I've ever fucking seen.
It was only ever you, Sunset. Back then. Now. All the same. I've always been yours."
"You're so fucking big, Mason,"
"And look at you, being my good fucking girl and taking it."
"I might have had your finger sized when we were switched."
I love the nostalgic rom-coms because they make me feel giddy and hopeful about life and love. But now, with Mason, I can't help but feel like the movies got that part wrong. That's where they made their biggest mistake because that moment isn't the end of the story at all. It's simply just ... The Beginning.
If you love RomCom’s circa the 2000’s, you are going to absolutely LOVE this sweet and absolutely hilarious read. Freaky Friday meets Hock Romance…I have been SO EXCITED for this book, and it did not disappoint ! It’s a super quick read packed with all the fun and just the right amount of spice for the type of story it is…and I could NOT PUT IT DOWN! I would have happily read another 250 pages 🥰
Daphne and Mason have known each other forever because Daphne is the best friend of Masons little sister. They have always had feelings for each other but never really acted on them. Until that one day where Mason ghosts Daphne. Leaving her broken hearted and confused.
So, when Daphne and her best friend decide to switch colleges for the last two years to the same college as Mason, Daphne is hell bent on keeping her distance from the boy who broke her heart. But…that’s easier said than done seeing as Mason is the school’s star goalie and Daphne is a figure skater. Their paths were bound to cross on the ice at some point.
One heated exchange on the ice where years of pent up feelings, tension and resentment are unleashed…the walk away feeling no better. But when they wake up the next day they are inexplicably in each others bodies! 🤭 ensue chaos 😩😂
Both of them trying to navigate being in each others bodies was hilarious. Daphne did what all is women would do if given the chance to be in a man’s body. She made that thing swing like a helicopter and I was CRYING laughing the entire time. 😂😂😂 she made the sounds and everything! PLEASE! 😂😂😂
The body swap doesn’t last long but it’s long enough for both of them to learn a lot about each other, and open the door for a REAL conversation about everything that’s happened and how they truly feel for each other. Mason adores Daphne. He cooks for her…he takes care of her…and the two of them together were just the sweetest 🥹❤️
If this book doesn’t get turned into a movie, I’ll RIOT. it’s got movie written all over it. If you want something, sweet , funny, with just the right amount of spice…definitely dive into this one ❤️
Thank you so much to Pru Schuyler for the opportunity to ARC read this incredible book! ❤️
Where do I begin to put into words the joy this book brought me! If like me you grew up in the 90's and lived your teen to adult years in the early 2000's then this book will bring you nostalgia and joy all in one very addictive and beautifully written book. It is a second chance romance with her best friend's brother who have a very freak Friday moment which is so fantastically written and works so well within the story. It is light, romantic and has amazing friendships with found family vibes.
Daphne was such a beautiful character who will be relatable when it comes to hoping for a love like you saw in all those movies growing up, we were all there at some point in our lives. Daphne is also full of sass, strength, kindness and wit, a truly great FMC.
Mason was the things dreams were made of and I have no doubt he will sky rocket to the top of many people's book boyfriends lists, he was so swoony worthy with his words, actions and romantic gestures. I loved how Pru highlighted that he and his team mate weren't afraid of their emotions, it was refreshing.
It wouldn't be a Pru Schuyler book without one of her characters having a condition that can impact their daily lives, in this book the FMC had celiac disease. Pru really highlights the struggles that come with this, the considerate that has to go into every bite of food and places we eat from. As always she did an amazing job with the detail within the book and really raised awareness about it.
I could go on and on about this book honestly and all the small details that just set it apart from others but I wouldn't want to spoil the experience for others reading it but I highly recommend doing just that!
🏒 Second Chance Romance ⛸️ Best Friend's Brother 🏒 They Switch Bodies ⛸️ He cooks for her 🏒 Strong Friendships ⛸️ Celiac Representation 🏒 Romantic Gestures
A Spicy Hockey Romance with a nod to 2000's Rom-Coms was not on my bingo card this year and yet it has hot so far out of the park I cannot wait to read it all over again!
Daphne is a romantic at heart even after being left behind without a word, but when she is back in Mason's orbit she finds it hard to be around him after everything that happened, unfortunately waking up in each others bodies made that a little harder. Could having to navigate the possibility of being this way forever be what brings them back together?
I wish that I could rate this more than 5 stars, this had me kicking with glee, and laughing until I was on the floor, Daphne is so sassy and cute and she loves with everything she's got especially for her Bestie, Maeve, they are the epitome of a noughties rom-com besties, and I am so here for it.
Just when you think 'you cannot fit in anymore 2000's references in this' POW here's another 3! I honestly was lapping it all up, I am a huge fan of 2000's Rom-Coms and when Pru said that this was going to those vibes I just couldn't wait! My favourite was even mentioned in this, and I had the biggest smile on my face! 'Never Let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game!' and yes Maeve I will say it with you every time!
I would highly recommend this book to all the Losers and the Burnouts, the Plastics and the Art Freaks, Varsity Jocks and Band Geeks! As well as the rest of Pru's catalogue of incredible books. For Fans of Hockey Romance, 2000's Rom-Coms, Best Friends Brother, Forced Proximity, and the most delicious spicy goodness.
ARC Review – Switching Skates by Pru Schuyler 4.5 ☆
I had such a good time with this book! Imagine a rom-com that combines a Freaky Friday body-swap twist with all the best vibes of early 2000s teen movies—and then throws in hockey, second chances, and plenty of swoony moments. That’s exactly what Switching Skates has.
Daphne is the kind of heroine you root for instantly. She’s sweet and hopelessly romantic, but she’s also got this spark that makes her stand out. Mason, on the other hand, is the reformed love interest who broke her heart years ago but comes back determined to prove he’s grown up—and let me tell you, he does it beautifully. The way he looks out for her, remembers the little things, and even makes sure she can eat safely with her Celiac disease? I'm in love
I laughed out loud at the body-swap scenes and loved how they forced Daphne and Mason to navigate each other’s worlds. Honestly, I wish that part had lasted longer—it was such a fun twist, and I wanted a little more of the chaos before things returned to normal. Still, the romance progressed perfectly, and when it finally bloomed into full-on grand gesture mode, it felt like a scene ripped straight from a nostalgic rom-com CD.
The 90s/2000s references were a highlight for me. I was giggling and kicking my feet, and that movie list at the end? Loved it. (For the record, I’ve seen 44/52—time to rewatch some favorites!)
What really stood out though was the warmth of the whole book—the friendships, the humor, and the chemistry between Mason and Daphne. It’s a story that leaves you smiling, craving popcorn, and maybe queuing up a movie marathon afterward.
If you love rom-coms with heart, humor, and just a sprinkle of spice, Switching Skates is one to pick up.
Mason and Daph. this book was IT. I adored it so so so so so much. i laughed, i kicked my feet i giggled and Mason is THE man. the man for Daph. she is a hopelessly romantic and a 2000s rom com girly and i adore her. what she didnt know was the love she was craving has always been right in front of her. and mason is the man for her. and man is he a SIMP for her. this second change is done SO well and i adored this book so so so so much🥹🥹 the switching bodies was the cherry on top. i never laughed and swooned as hard. mason was DETERMINDED to win her back. and what he learned when being in her body it was so heart warming to read it. UGH i love them and I ADORE this concept. i just love daph and mason. 10/10!!!
Switching Skates was pure romcom joy with a side of sports romance chaos and a Freaky Friday twist that had me absolutely hooked. Daphne and Mason’s body swap was hilarious and surprisingly heartfelt, giving them the perfect excuse to finally confront years of tension, heartbreak, and unresolved feelings. The early 2000s vibes were spot-on, the banter was top-tier, and Mason is the grumpy goalie with a soft spot for the girl he never stopped loving. Watching him cook for her and show up in all the quiet, tender ways was everything. This story had all the charm and heart I crave in a sports romance, with just enough magical mayhem to keep things fresh. I laughed, I swooned, and I didn’t want it to end.
I’ve been absolutely obsessed with this book from the moment it was announced, and it absolutely lived up to the hype (that I personally built up in my head). If you are a fan of 2000s RomComs (think Katherine Heigl, Anne Hathaway, etc) or body swap movies (e.g. Freaky Friday), you’ll absolutely love this book. But even if you are NOT a fan of those things (and why would you not be), this book has so much to love. The banter is smart and snappy. The characters are multi-dimensional. The conflicts feel real (aside from the intentionally fantastical body swap) and the ending is so so so satisfying.
Daphne might be one of the best written FMCs I’ve read in a romance novel recently, and Mason is exactly what you want out of a book boyfriend (he cooks!). Maeve, Daphne’s bestie and Mason’s sister, is such a fun supporting character, and I hope she gets a spin-off book.
As for the spice level, this hit the right notes for me. I like spice when it serves the story, and isn’t just smut thrown in to titillate the reader. This fit that bill. The rollercoaster scene… just yes please (I won’t say more, because spoiler free).
I received an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review, and this is my 100% honest review. Even though I have the book now in my Kindle library, I’m still buying the paperback too. And I will be first in line if (when) this gets turned into a movie with all the perfect early 2000s nostalgia vibes.
This book is perfect! Swoony, romantic, funny , chaotic and steamy with spice. True Freaky Friday style. Daphne and Mason are my favourite ❤️ And too many good moments to mention 😂 but makes me want to read it all over again for the first time
Finished this on a beautiful sunny Saturday and I absolutely loved it.
We’ve got: - slow burn - deep yearning - an absolutely unhinged amount of lip biting to prevent secrets being divulged - awesome best friend groups - respectful body switching
This second chance romance is a slowburn. If you love freaky friday, you will definitely love switching skates!!
The banter between the main characters is the best. They have some unfinished history 👀 this gives a lot of extra tension 🔥 but you can tell that they still care about each other.
Daphne is cheecky, not afraid to speak her mind, and Mason is such a sweetheart. You immediately feel that they have such amazing chemistry. 💕 I could not help but fall in love with the main characters!!
The body swap scenes are hilarious. Those had me cracking up every time. It's a slow burn story, but romance is top-notch👌
If you love reading a good romcom story with some tension, sassy banter, and of course some very funny and awkward moments. This book is for you!!
If you love 2000’s rom com you must read this! Thank you so much to the author for the arc! This book is now available and you must read it. If you love freaky Friday the movie and second chance romance, you must read it! I loved everything and honestly I thought about it always! Please read it
I literally DEVOURED this book. Like I’m talking I read this in like 3 hours. I could not put this down, I loved every second of this.
This was such a fun take at freaky Friday meets hockey romance. This literally was a 2000s rom com in book format.
Mason and Daphne were childhood friends that developed into something more. But then Mason breaks Daphne’s heart and he has regretted it ever since. Can we just get some hand claps for Mason! I absolutely adored him. he knew he messed up in the past and he was doing everything he could to make up for it. The way he takes care of Daphne made my heart melt. I felt for Daphne so hard. She had every right to make Mason grovel but I’m so glad she forgave him and they get their HEA. 🤭 I also just loved her quirkiness with her love of 2000s rom coms and the crochet monsters. 🤣 Plus the celiac rep in this! 🩷🩷
If you are looking for a good time while reading a hockey romance…highly recommend this one. You won’t be disappointed!

I just finished reading and wow, my heart is absolutely bursting! You know how much I adore a good body switching story? Well, let me tell you, any book that has characters switching bodies then you KNOW I’ll be there to eat it up, and this one truly hit the spot. I went into it with high hopes for that specific kind of fun, and Pru Schuyler did not disappoint.
From the moment Daphne and Mason find themselves in each other's shoes or skates, as it were, I was completely charmed. The way Daphne and Mason try to get used to their new routines and daily challenges after switching bodies is so much fun. Seriously, I could not stop laughing with this book. Imagine trying to navigate someone else's life, someone so different from you, and then trying to keep it a huge secret? The situations they get into are just pure gold, full of awkward and hilarious moments that made me laugh out loud more times than I can count. It’s the kind of humor that comes from genuine character reactions, and it just works so well.
Beyond the laughter, the heart of this story truly shines. What really got me was how Mason is still so in love with Daphne. Even after everything they’ve been through and when they're literally walking in each other's shoes, his feelings for her are so clear and sweet. it's a deep, abiding affection that has stuck with him through thick and thin.
Watching them learn about themselves and each other through this strange experience was beautiful. They face their past hurts and misunderstandings head on, not just because they have to, but because they’re truly getting to know the person they’ve always cared about on a much deeper level. The emotional growth in both Daphne and Mason is something special, and it makes their eventual path to true romance feel earned and incredibly sweet.
My only small wish, because I truly loved this part so much, is that I wish the switched body part were longer. I was having such a blast with all the chaos and discoveries that I could have happily stayed in that swapped state with them for many more chapters. But even with that small thought, the story moves along beautifully, bringing a satisfying ending that ties everything together with a lovely bow.
Thank you to Pru Schuyler for giving me an ARC for this book. I'm so glad I had the chance to read it early!
𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗦: Hockey romance, college romance, body swap, second chance romance, best friend’s brother
ARC Review – Thank you for the opportunity to read this story early. Here’s my short review:
📖 Plot Switching Skates follows Daphne, a former figure skater and romcom movie lover, and Mason, her best friend’s older brother and college hockey goalie. After a heated confrontation on the ice, they wake up in each other’s bodies, leading to chaos, laughs, and a new perspective on each other. The story mixes first love, second chance romance, and college sports vibes, with plenty of late 90s/early 2000s romcom energy. While the body-swapping concept was fun, I wished it had been explored more fully and lingered longer.
📖 Characters Daphne is fierce, witty, and protective of her heart, while Mason is a golden-flag, doting, and swoon-worthy guy who genuinely cares for her. Their banter and chemistry shine throughout, though I would have loved more backstory to deepen their second-chance dynamic. The side characters, small-town setting, and figure skating/hockey world add charm and humor.
📖 Worldbuilding & Setting The college and small-town settings gave a cozy, nostalgic romcom vibe. Sports elements, especially hockey and figure skating, are detailed and immersive, though some extra plot points felt overly specific and slowed pacing at times. The world feels vivid and fun, perfect for a light, entertaining read.
📖 Writing Style The writing is quick, energetic, and easy to follow, which made it a fast, enjoyable read. A few sections felt uneven in pace—especially pre- and post-body swap—but overall, the humor, romance, and cuteness kept me engaged.
📖 Recommendation A sweet, funny, and heartwarming romcom with swoony moments, banter, and a clever body-swap twist. Perfect for fans of romcoms, sports romances, and quirky second-chance love stories.
I received a digital ARC of 'Switching Skates' by Pru Schuyler in exchange for an honest review.
Loved the concept, hated the execution. Second chance - I don't mind Body switch - never gave a hint how this could happen (a wish made by Mason). Never explored what complications such a body switch might pose - in every day life. Only very late was mentioned that Daphne hears and sees Mason as Mason in spite of him speaking with her own voice, from her own body. She gets on a shopping rampage because she can judge clothes so much better from his pov. Seriously??? And she indulges in eating crap just because Mason isn't suffering from celisc disease. But he's an athlete and has to be more conscious of what he eats. She as a former ice skater should know!! And don't get me started on inconsistencies!! She suffered an accident some time ago that endet her skating future and left her with chronic pain and panic attacks, but this gets conveniently forgotten when the love story takes off. And Mason in her body wonders how she can atand the pain. Honestly???? A hockey player sensitive to pain? When Daphne wakes up in his body, she notices how battered this body feels. Then - no mention anymore!!
Thf she has to take over a scrimmage for him, the goalie. And he teaches figure skating to kids. No one notices any difference. Neither the kuds nor the teammates. Daphne completely forgets that after a practice, game etc THE WHOLE TEAM chsnges in thd locker room. And she stares at gheir dicks and remarks about sizes! Very unsubtle thougths. Very very strange attitude to nudeness. But then when they get together again they give each other orgasms ON A ROLLER COASTER. I was stuck on the logistics of where snd how his hand was. Horrible scene!! And after their big declaration of love - a smut scene right out of an adult film!! Without EVER talking about the important stuff BEFORE they have sex. UNPROTECTED!!! I hate dirty talk, I hate missed potential, I hate entitled obmoxoius characters. There were funny and likeable bits, but the ugly bits got overwhelming.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Funny, heartfelt, and refreshingly real—finally a romcom heroine with celiac!
As someone with celiac disease, I can’t overstate how much it means to see a romance heroine like Daphne Summers—a fully developed, funny, smart character—whose celiac diagnosis is an important, realistic part of her life without defining her entirely. Pru Schuyler handles it with so much care and accuracy. It’s not just tossed in for “quirk” points or forgotten after one scene—it’s woven into who Daphne is, from her awareness of cross-contamination to navigating meals in social situations. I felt seen.
But Switching Skates is so much more than great representation. This is a romcom with a deliciously unique twist: a former figure skater and a hockey goalie with years of unresolved tension suddenly… switch bodies. The premise is wild, but the execution is pure magic—equal parts hilarious and heartfelt. Watching Daphne and Mason fumble through each other’s daily lives had me laughing out loud, but the real emotional punch comes from the way they learn to truly see one another.
The chemistry? Off the charts. The banter? Sharp and fun. The slow-burn romance? Absolutely worth the wait. And layered underneath all the humor is a tender exploration of forgiveness, ambition, and the messiness of growing up.
This book nails what I love most about romcoms—it’s escapist and swoony, but grounded enough to feel real. And for readers with celiac, it’s a rare treat to have a heroine who not only shares your reality but still gets the big-screen-worthy love story she deserves.
If you love Freaky Friday-style hijinks, second-chance romance, sports romance energy, and authentic representation, Switching Skates is a must-read.
I think this was a GREAT love story, but not such a great book. It made me cry a few times, it made me feel a lot. The fact that Mason was so insanely in love with “Sunset”/Daphne honestly made me forget that, unfortunately, the book itself was very poorly done 😕
There were so many inconsistencies, and the main plot was supposed to be about them switching bodies… but that didn’t even last half the book. At one point I even forgot it had happened because they switched while hating each other, then about a week later they were back in their own bodies and nothing interesting came out of it. There was still half the book left, and I completely lost interest, I even finished it like a month later.
Again, I really liked the love story between them, but I didn’t like the way it was structured. Another thing is that when they were switched, it was SO confusing to tell who was who. There was no consistency, some plots didn’t make sense… The gluten intolerance part was actually good, because Mason went out of his way for her and it fed into the romance. But the whole thing about her being a skater and having a leg injury ended up meaning nothing. And the subplot about the best friend getting a boyfriend was just a distraction so she “wouldn’t notice” the body swap—like, come on, they were switched for a whole week!! They could’ve explored that way more, and maybe had her realize what was happening between her brother and her best friend… Anyways i really liked the ending about him buying the house and proposing, i feel like it wrapped up perfectly the storyline about her being a hopeless romantic and wanting her romcom moment.

✨About the characters: Daphne: She is so adorable and sweet, but at the same time, she has this fire in her that I love. A true hopeless romantic, she dreams of that movie-style love that makes your heart melt—and with Mason, she finds it. After reuniting and mending their relationship, she finally gets the happiness she was looking for and truly deserves.
Mason: This man… I love how he remembers everything about Daphne. He goes out of his way to make her comfortable, to show her he’s sorry, and to prove just how much he loves her. He’s sweet, understanding, and protective—everything I adore in a love interest.
✨My thoughts: This book is definitely a little different from what I normally read, but it was so good. A sweet, funny romance with a bit of a twist that made it even more interesting—plus a little spice sprinkled in. The writing flowed well, and the story was easy and enjoyable to read.
The relationship between Daphne and Mason is sweet and genuine. I loved how they found their way back to each other and were determined to make it work. Every small moment between them made me smile.
The whole vibe of the book was warm and heart-melting. And I have to mention—Daphne and Maeve’s friendship was the best. They support each other fully and never judge, which made me love their dynamic even more.
A wholesome, feel-good romance with heart, humor, and just enough heat. I definitely recommend!
A few days ago I received the ARC and I have been sooo excited to read it since the announcement post with the tropes. This story is about Mason and Daphne. He is her best friend’s brother and college hockey goalie. She is an ex figure skater and romantic movie enthusiast.
Daphne and her best friend transfer university and move to her family lake cabin. The problem is that she has been in love with her best friend's older brother but he broke her heart in high school so it’s not great that now, four years later they would be on the same university. Mason plans to stay focus on his hockey career so that he can play professional. Her being back near him makes him question his future. After a heated confrontation, on the next morning they discovered they had switched bodies. Since this is so unexpected and complicated they decide to stick together and help each other out. This cause that they can see each other’s lives and become closer than ever.
The plot kept me wanting more and more. Amazing banter, dynamic and chemistry throughout the story. The other characters are a great addition to the story and make it so much enjoyable. The body swap aspect was so original and special to me being a Freaky Friday lover. Also it reminded me of the 2006 movie It’s a boy/girl thing that I really enjoy too. In general appreciate the love the early 2000s movies received. If you like romcoms I think this is right up your alley. It’s already available so you can start enjoying it now. When you are done with it I would recommend to check out her other books.
Freaky Friday meets hockey rom com! Mason broke Daphne's heart and trust when they were just teenagers, telling her sweet nothings of love just to up and leave her. She's never forgiven or forgotten it, never trusted herself with anyone else since. Her best friend and roommate, Maeve, is also his younger sister. Luckily, she has proven time and time again that it's Sisters before Misters, and that if he ever hurts her like that again, bodily harm with ensue.
The references to all of the 90s/early 00s movies was awesome and had me giggling and kicking my feet like a teen girl again. Swoonworthy moments, giggly feet popping moves and steamy hea kisses complete this book.
Love the list of 52 movies! I've seen 39/52 in that list, 15 of which are some of my all time faves and regular rewatches. And yes, you bet your fave rom-com I started a rewatch of these classics after reading this!
I would've liked the 'switch' to last a bit longer though. The build up to it and establishing Mason and Daphne's past was essential and well done, the timing of the 'switch' well placed, but I would've liked the situation itself to last longer and maybe a bit more chaotic before it was reversed and the remaining plot continued. Neither anyone on the team nor Maeve noticed anything odd or quirky about either of them. They all assumed it was because they were just sneaking around, which is a good cover, but considering Maeve is Daphnes best friend and roommate, and Mason's sister, with the many movie nights and dinners they all shared, it wasn't noticed or mentioned at all.
While reading the book, my head was continuously rewinding those lines from 10 Things I Hate About You:
"I hate the way I don't hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all."
This is the perfect description of Daphne and Mason's story. In the dedication, the author has written — This book is for the readers who love watching romcoms with hearts in their eyes and hope in their hearts. And this book exactly felt like a romcom happening in front of my eyes. My heart is full of love, my eyes are shining with the hope that maybe one day this will be me. Maybe one day I will find my happily ever after, and when we both find love, it won't be a happy ending but a beginning to a beautiful start -us.
This book isn't perfect, it has flaws, but every beautiful thing has flaws, isn't it? That's what adds more to its beauty and charm.
Now, talking about the book (as if in the above paragraphs I was talking about my maths assignment, lol), the fantasy element and "true love kiss" concept, OH MY MYLANTA!!!!! I was instantly transported back to my Disney era !!!!!! It was so hilarious that I couldn't stop chortling out loud — the chaos, the mess, and the absolute hilarity of living someone else's life, literally and figuratively — I Can’t Even !!!!!!!! It was chaotic, funny, silly, and magic 🤌✨️
He calls her Sunset, STAWPPPP MY HEART IS IN PUDDLES AND HE HAS A SUNSET TATTOO ON HIS BACK? DAMN, MY SOUL IS LEAVING MY BODY 🤧🤧
Thank you Pru Schuyler for providing me with this amazing ARC giving 2000s romcom vibes.
