For almost a century, we’ve believed the prophecy to be a hoax. The promise of Fated Mates being the cure to this ruined world was a beautiful story, a romantic lie told to keep us in line. Nothing more than an idyllic promise to make us work together.

Only we never did, and the world only suffered more.

Joining the military has turned my life into a monotonous cycle of schedule, routine, and order. Day after day, I wake at the same time, and wear the same uniform, and stare at the same power-hungry faces I’ve been commanded by for decades. Days blur into weeks, and weeks turn into years where it feels like nothing ever happens. Nothing ever changes.

Until the day it does….

The prophecy is real, my best friend has disappeared with his mate, and now I’m here, alone, keeping my last promise to him. Protect August.

It’s not hard to track him down, but the human is the last thing I expected. August, a medic, is confined to a cell with the rest of his rebel friends, but despite this waste of a world and the terrible things he’s seen in this life, he’s good. Sunshine and smiles, endless curiosity and infallible happiness. He views the world with a positivity I can’t figure out, and it pulls me into his gravity, eliciting conflicted feelings that have no place in a warrior like me.

In a life that’s riddled with darkness, August is light, and I can’t seem to look away from his glow.

Author's note: Elas is a First Person Dual POV MM Monster Romance series with explicit content intended for readers 18+. It is the second in a series that will have an overarching storyline carrying between books. While this series ends with a guaranteed HEA, individual books end on more of a HFN basis. The feature couple's story will be resolved, though there will be some unanswered questions and mild cliffhangers that lead into the next in the series.

About the author

G. Eilsel

G. Eilsel started writing under this pen name in early 2024, publishing works in two genres she loves: eccentric novellas and MM romance.

Her writing puts a focus on sarcasm, snarky humor, sometimes horrible puns, and steamy scenes that'll make your momma blush. Expect heavy spice, in any sort of variety you're looking for-sweet, emotional, depraved, or downright questionable.

Some of her books are one-handed reads with minimal plot, others are more intricate stories that weave themselves through her brain and demand to be put on paper. Angsty and emotional, light and giggle-inducing, and everything in between can be found between the covers of her books.

She doesn't take herself too seriously, throwing pieces of her humor and quirky personality in her writing. If she can't live up to her title of a One-Handed author, then maybe she can at least make you smile.

Wow. This was even a tad better than the first one and even more thrilling!!!

Elas & August’s romance was beautiful and these monsters, Ronan and Elas, both know how to talk dirty to their mates. DAMN!! Super freaking hot.

“Let’s get this wrapped up.” Elas’s voice has grown rough as his fingers tighten around my shoulder. “It’s getting late, and I have things to do.”

Cameron snorts, separating himself from Ronan. “You have August to do, you mean.

💀

We also learn more, a lot more tbh, about this secret research facility where they experiment on mated pairs, although it is very unclear until the very end of the book what they are even researching/looking for. And fuck, it was heartbreaking being there with them.

And now I want Xeni’s (“The Fates got it wrong.”) story sooooo so bad but Nyx is next first and I expect it’s going to be brutal. This little sweetheart suffered so much already.

I said that Ronan was my top read of the year when I finished it, but now I’m gonna say that Elas has surpassed it. This book was so good. Ronan was amazing, but Elas just blew it out of the water for me. I loved this book. I laughed, I swooned, and I cried. This book put me through the wringer, but I will keep recommending it until I am out of breath. And I have a feeling I will feel the exact same way about the next book.

I don’t even know where to begin with this book. I can’t even get my words together. This book didn’t do anything that I expected, in the best way possible. And the ending? My teeth were grinding for the last 15 chapters, and I was light headed from holding my breath. Talk about stressful. There is an HEA though, never fear from her.

So you need to read Ronan first obviously. This is not a stand alone. So I’m going to pick up from there, and if you’re confused, read Ronan and then come back. So you know Cameron told Elas to look after August in book 1. The medic. Sweet, giant hunk of a man. Elas rescues him from that prison and gets him a job in the clinic. So we obviously know these two are mates, but they don’t for a long time. So it’s absolutely sweet watching them become close friends. It just makes the fated mate thing far more fun. Anyway without giving much of the plot away, Elas and August stumble upon some files about several occurrences of the mates. And we also found out about the base that’s housing these mates that was mentioned in book one. And then it gets WILD. So many more discoveries. So many theories. So many revelations. So many plot twists. I could go on and on. This series is going to be so good. I am literally so excited.

So, the sex. Oh my god. Elas is a very spicy man. A spicy talking man. And he has the equipment to match. Very interesting equipment I might add. That’s all I’m saying. I want you to be as pleasantly surprised as I was when you read it. Cheers!

I wonder if this author will finish the next book next week if I ask nicely. As much as I’m scared for reading the next book (it’s Nyx’s book and I know I’m gonna ugly cry), I’m literally so excited to find out more of this puzzle. I need to know what happens next. And I’m sure you will, too.

I read an ARC, and this is my honest review.

Okay... well I' m not sure how to emotionally recover from this but here we are. This entire series has me enthralled.

Elas & August were sickly sweet but boy did they fight for their mateship. August is a fighter who no matter what atrocities he has had to face believes there is good in the world. He believes that every deserves to live their happily ever after. I love that about him. I also loathe that about him. I was much like Elas, I just wanted to wrap him up and never let him out. Elas, oh such a sweet tormented gentle giant. I wept for you so many times. But you got your happy ending, you got the mate you always desired, and yearned for. He is just a big blue ball of goodness.

The entire world that G. Eilsel is creating is a mindf#ck in the best way. I need to know what happens like I need to my next breath. All of these characters make an impact in the best way. Ronan & Elas' bromance had be giggling. Cameron is still as snarky as every and his bread addiction is very much alive and well. I was crying over Nyx and Reyes. Reyes just has this quiet strength about him, I'm so intrigued. Lilith had me smiling through the worst parts with her carefree whimsy. I just love every single character G has created.

Now to my sweet angel Nyx. I AM SO READY FOR YOU. I need their story more than I think I've needed any other. Nyx is pure perfection. The parts where Nyx was on page, tugged at my heart. They are strong, stronger than they even knows. I was weeping over flowers, Eye-riss & Katsurrel. You sweet Drüinae have me in a chokehold and I will be waiting for your story on bated breath. 💚💚

LOOKING FOR A WAY TO RATE THIS SIX STARS

you know a book is that good when you know it has a happy ending, and yet you almost throw up because you’re THAT anxious during the darkest moment.
and this book is that bitch.

there’s always that little nagging feeling, if you’ll love book 2 as much as you loved book 1.
i think i liked this even more?????

elas and august are fucking amazing. together, separate and they also fuck amazingly, if anyone was wondering.
no, but, really. the anatomy of these monsters is that good. trust me.

we got so many new amazing characters that i’m so happy to know more about and the over arching plot is definitely plotting. i need book 3 like right the fuck now.
please?

speaking of the next book, i don’t think i will survive my little green angel’s story. i need his mate to murder everyone involved in his suffering.

i read an arc and this is my honest opinion and all that jazz

I just know my baby Elas will be a 5 star read

arc review

I told you it would be a 5 star read. Honestly, I’m still processing everything that happened. That’s what I love so much about this series—the world building and all the drama surrounding these books are just so captivating, you literally can’t stop reading. I can say with 100% certainty that I finished this in a single day—I just couldn’t put it down with everything going on.

August and Elas? Absolutely adorable together, I loved watching their relationship grow, and that ending? It definitely broke me. The way Elas was willing to risk everything for August, even though it could have gone terribly wrong—I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

Xeni my misunderstanding boy, I see you.

“Fates be damned, August. I’ve been falling for you since before we ever touched. Maybe it has nothing to do with these marks, and maybe it has everything to do with them. Maybe none of that matters. All I know is I want you.”

Loved Elas more than Ronan simply because elas was just such an awesome monster.
I really wanted to care about August but his hero and martyr complex got me rolling my eyes constantly 🙄🙄🙄 otherwise was a good book and more characters were introduced which are intriguing. Lots of action and steam and also more of the puzzle gets solved.

Now im not sure im looking forward for Nyx simply because i know its gonna take slow burn to another level and im an impatient reader lol but i suppose his and reyes story needs to be about healing and bonding 🥹

This is book 2. If you have not read book 1, Ronan, go now and devour it. Also, how have you not read it yet? Seriously, go run 😆

Ok, I lost 12 hours on this one, started reading, and I blinked, and 12 hours had gone by, and it was after 6 a.m., so yeah. To say I lost myself in this one is a vast understatement. I loved Ronan's book and Elas's book. I think I tied it because there is no picking just one over the other. Nope, I refuse. I won't do it.

Elas is like the big soft teddy bear monster we all wish was just a bit real, and August, well, he's literally a ray of sunshine with a heart of pure gold.

The story and world building are just so well done that you just want more and for it to never end.
I am beyond excited for the next one.

And there is a character that I won't say who, but I'm desperately hoping gets a book and is actually a sweet soul that deserves a HEA.

And Nyx, well, he's already breaking my heart. I'm just waiting to read his story, to put it back together ❤️

This book, this entire series so far, is the type of story where you don’t realise you're reading. You start the book and instantly are hooked so much, time flies while discovering this amazing characters and their world. You literally cannot put it down, cause it just won’t let you.

This author truly has an unique way to describe things and people and always writes unforgetable stories.

Elas is a monster, similar to Ronan, from the first book. August is a doctor, just trying to help with his knowledge. When they discover that they're mates, everything changes for them.

Do you like passionate fated mates that are total cuties and would do anything for each other? Than this series really is a must read 💖

Like I said, I am so hooked by this world building and the character dynamics and I am so hyped for the next book of this fantastic series 🥰

I didn't think I could love anyone more than Ronan and Cameron....until Elas and August! This was one wild ride and that ending ...oh boy. As usual I can't wait for the next one. I just loved how sweet Elas wslas for being such a big guy, and August and his forever optimism, they were just so perfect together. Loved seeing Ronan and Cameron again of course, and am interested in Reyes and Nyx and what might happen there ... overall, it was exactly what I wanted out of book 2 and book 3 better come soon!

“Don’t you dare suggest I ever leave you behind. Don’t you fucking dare.”
“But you could get out, El. Go back to where it’s safe... You could go home.”
“This is my home. You are my home. Don’t ever suggest I leave you behind again. We stay together… you and me, doc. Where you go, I go.”
“Always”

Elas was beautiful. It was a perfectly written story about love, hope, and choosing to do the right thing even when every survival instinct in you tells you to run the other way.

I’ve been waiting impatiently for this book since I finished Ronan, and it was truly worth the wait. When I first read Ronan I thought absolutely nothing could top that god-tier monster romance. And then G. Eilsel dropped Elas and now I couldn’t choose one I love more than the other even if I tried. They’re both perfect.

Elas had me on the edge of my seat. Quite literally. I was completely enthralled by the high stakes scenarios and the world building and the diabetes-inducing sweetness of Elas and August’s fated-mates relationship. Everything about it had me hooked. The overlapping timeline with Ronan was great as well because it really helped me immerse myself in the world again without feeling like I’d stopped and started.

If you’ve read Ronan – which hopefully you have or you won’t get the full experience out of reading this story – then you know how important fated mates and the prophecy are in this post-apocalyptic world. Enter sunshine personified August and… also sunshine personified Elas. One human and one monster, but both equally sweet creatures who would do anything for the people they love. When they’re touched with the mates mark, it upends their entire world. Suddenly life is no longer just about their own survival, but the survival and happiness of their mate as well. And in a new world that will do anything to destroy that bond, they have to leave everything they knew behind and run.

I really don’t want to give any spoilers, but I will say that this book broke me. I knew after Ronan that it was going to hurt, but I didn’t realise just how much. I wanted to protect August and Elas from the horrors that they witnessed and endured. I wanted to hunt down anyone who had ever hurt sweet Nyx, and I wanted to go guns blazing into that military torture camp myself and rescue every single one of those prisoners whose only crime was finding their soul mate. I even wanted to hug Xeni and tell him everything would be alright – right after I’d smacked him upside the head for being a douchecanoe.

I loved that while all of these incredible characters were afraid and beaten down, they still chose to do the right thing over and over again. They put love and hope for a better future over everything. Honestly, I had such strong feelings for so many characters in this book, and it did leave me emotionally drained in the best way. I had to read tooth-achingly sweet books with no angst for a week after it just to get over the emotional devastation. I still think about it constantly.

G. Eilsel did such an amazing job with the writing and the world building of Elas. She expanded on so much from Ronan and answered so many questions that I’d been holding onto, and it has easily become one of my favourite books of the year. The map and the character index/codex are such fantastic additions to the story as well. I found myself scrolling back to the map as I read, and it was lovely to be able to visually follow the story as well as imagining each scene.

I really, really loved Elas and I can’t wait for Nyx (but at the same time I’m terrified for how heartbreaking it will be). 5/5 stars. Would recommend to everyone who will listen.

This is book 2 in the Mates Mark series, the so need to be read in order for the series to make sense. This book follows Elas and August, both mentioned in Ronan, book one.

We really get to see more of the universe Elisel has created in this book and we start to expand on the mates mark and what is happening with them. The post apocalyptic universe is dark and full of danger but in there is some good left. We get to dive into a bit more of a suspense filled world and some cloak and dagger action.

Elas and August have an attraction from the beginning and there isn’t much of a slow burn (and I was so here for it) Who doesn’t want to get di*ked down by a 7 ft tall beefy blue monster with a literal monster 🍆. The spicy scenes are delightful, I mean there’s a belly bulge. I am a sucker for those.

Don’t be fooled there’s some angst and some emotional trauma to get through. But it’s the kind that also shows you there’s still some good in the world. And I feel that’s a message we need in our current world. Don’t give up hope and be the change we want to see.

You can say that my brain stop working because I WANT MORE?!?!
Don't get me wrong the end was perfect... but by the time I started and couldn't stop reading only tearing myself away to do "life", I was already halfway through this book.
To say this was a very captivating book is not enough.

I love this two so much. Elas & August are just perfect together! Both always with sunshine attitude, even though they passed many struggles in life.
When they finally hold hands, I was going to combust because that tension and chemistry (present since the beginning) was intense!!!
August is such a kind person always trying to help other. When Elas is just a nice person trying to live through his military life and all the haunts that it gave him.

Hot! Hot book alert! Even though I've read book 1 and that it was fire… I was not prepared on how this was going to be this caliente.

One thing I would've been happier was that time machines existed and Ronan would go back in time and KILL COMANDER BRAVIS AGAIN! How I hate that man! It wasn’t enough what an asshole (and horrible he was to Ronan in the first book) but know I find out he literally out dones himself and became even more terrible, how he treated Elas... yeah I need that time machine ASAP.

!! I don't equate fiction stories to real life. It's a matter of personal taste and what you are willing or want to tolerate in the books you read. We all have different opinions and preferences when it comes to the kind of books we enjoy, so it's important to respect and remember that it's just a book!!

“You are everything I ever wanted, and everything I never knew I could have.”
A Dystopian MM romance! There's fantasy, prophecy, Monster x Human, close-proximity, friendship, fated mates, 2 Sunshines in love, size difference (I'm big but he's bigger), sleuthing & undercover, ✨Lore✨, hurt/comfort & omg that climax!!
I'd been so excited for August & Elas's story, Love 'em. I savored my #ARC! Couple got HFN, but plot cliffhanger 🙈.

💙Elas is a Nu'vak, officer in the monster's military. El's playful, fun, protective, "a menace" 😆, always smiles but those are a defense 🥺. He's done & experienced the worst of people. I liked his tactics & subtle cunning!
⭐August is a human medic. Aug's polite, an eternal optimist, gentle, curious & SO GOOD 🥺. He's inspiring—heroic & selfless! I loved seeing him angry, frustrated tho 😅. He can be so passionate, when he thought he couldn't!

A part of me thought it'd get boring, with them so sweet 🥰, but all of it kept my attention! I loved the cute teasing, unexpected banter 😁. We got edged with 'em touching 😩 (IYKYK), but it led to a beautiful friendship ❤️. E+A so hot 🥵, primal play 🔥. I need someone to love my "adorably soft belly" too 🤣.

They're easy to love, but it's not without their fights, fears 😢, challenges, as more world lore & characters introduced! We've kinda known what El+Aug's been upto since Ronan's epilogue but details were interesting, the military dual spies 😅. "Anticlimactic" (MCs' words) (due to smarts!) but THEN that 3rd act—Goddamn 😭. Heavy stuff!

Aug's right that if good guys don't act, bad guys will win. But gosh, why a part of me disliked Aug getting 'em in danger even if it's for the good? *Sigh* A's truly too f'ing nice! It was good to see Ron+Cam've a big part! I'm glad we'll get more of Elas+Aug similarly, cuz that trauma doesn't go away! My feelings were a rollercoaster for Xeni 😆🙂. Omg, Nyx 😭. So excited for his (+ Reyes 🤭) book!

Story Ratings:

POV: 1st person, Dual POV
1) Enjoyed? —> Yes!! 5/5

ARC REVIEW: Talk about high stakes! (Curse you dystopian novels *shakes fist*) My heart was beating out of my chest during most of this story. If you’ve read Ronan, which you should before starting Elas, then you know what a big deal it is to find your mate in this chaotic world. You’ll learn a bit more about how sketchy their government is too and man was I itching for that after finishing Ronan months ago. There’s still so much to uncover in this story! I honestly can’t tell which character will get their HEA/HFN next but I hope that it’s Nyx. His story is so damn sad. Every single time he’s on page I just want to scream and cry!!! Elas overlaps with Ronan’s story which I think was a good choice. I’ve read other books that try to do this and don’t pull it off as well as G Eilsel did. I didn’t get bored or frustrated even once during the overlapping bits! Now I wait for book 3 😎

An absolute 5 star heartbreaking read.

I knew this story was going to tear me apart going into it but I didn't know I was actually going to scream at the pages in frustration.

August and Elas are so much more than mates, the love the have for each other is tangible the whole way through the book.

Genuinely kicked my feet and giggled at the sweet and funny moments and cried my heart out at others.

I thought Ronan broke me but Elas is a whole other story and I am NOT prepared for Nyx. If you want to feel all your feelings please read this ASAP

All monsters should have teefers like Elas

After reading Ronan, I knew I was going to enjoy this book and I was not disappointed but boy did I not expect the angst!!!!

This was nerve-wracking at times, it had me gripped. Anxiety! I love them. Elas and August are adorable together. I loved that their relationship built up differently compared to Ronan and Cameron's. It was just perfect for them. August is pure sunshine and must be protected at all costs. But he sure knows how to put his mate through the ringer! Bubble wrap stat.

I cannot wait to read Nyx's story but I know it is going to hit HARD. I'm getting myself ready for it now. Tissues please.

The book is promising but I just couldn't go past the fact Elas allowed Xeni to see them being intimate together just to make a point.
What about August and his discrecy?
Elas heard him coming, knew who he was and yet said nothing to August.
Maybe it's me but I couldn't enjoy that scene and couldn't read further. It made me uncomfortable.

Forced proximity, size difference, suspense, and a monster/human relationship that’s tooth-achingly sweet—this book has so many good things packed into it!

Elas and August’s story is a continuation from book 1, Ronan. You absolutely need to have read book 1 to enjoy book 2. The author also helpfully puts in a recap of book 1 at the beginning of Elas!

This book overlaps a lot timeline wise with Ronan, but follows the story of Elas and August. Elas, a high-ranking monster officer, finds a clever way to get August out of the holding cells—have him work in the short-staffed clinic. From here, the story expands the information we know about the mysterious experimentation we learned about in book 1. And of course, the sweet and spicy story of how Elas and August fall in love!

Let’s talk about the characters! Elas was likely my favourite. He had a fiery but positive attitude, and was immediately super possessive of August in a very protector-like way. His design is really cool, as a monster. And of course, you can expect that certain parts of him are… monstrous ;) The way he is with August is so sweet! August is just a positive little sweetheart as well. He’s overly optimistic, but also funny. Both characters are also pretty obsessed with each other, to the point where they make questionable decisions. 😂

The world building in this series is so cool. The author included maps and profiles on the different types of monsters, and even their rankings. Culturally, the monsters are extremely similar to humans, so reading about their alliances, history, and how they interact with the human world is really interesting. My favourite part is the fated mates system!! I don’t want to spoil it if you haven’t read the series, but it’s so unique!

The plot wasn’t what I was expecting, but it was interesting to follow! It almost felt like episodes of a TV show rather than a movie, if that makes sense? The sense of urgency for the situation ebbs and flows, and we get to visit different locations as well. There’s a lot of tension, but the entire book isn’t action-packed. The characters will keep you on your toes with their horrible decision-making skills, for sure. August and Elas may be brave, good people, but planners, they are not!

Definitely don’t miss this instalment in the series! It definitely got me hyped for book 3 as well!

Excellent second installment!

This was a thrilling ride from beginning to end. I love a good simp and both of these boys were down so bad from so early in the book.

Elas and August were devoted, adoring, and so steadfast through so much. When you hit the midpoint and realize there's too much book left for this to be the happy ending, you know you're in for it.

There is a happy ending, but the last quarter of the story is a bloody fight for it.

The balance of plot to spice is lovely and the spice itself is absolutely delicious. Eilsel never fails to deliver on incredible sensory descriptions and heart pounding action sequences.

I know I'm far from alone when I say I'm eagerly looking forward to the next part of this story with Nyx!

This book is massive omg — and what a wild ride it is! About three-quarters in, everything starts to connect back to book one, giving us perfect little teasers for book three. I absolutely love G. Eilsel’s worldbuilding; once you pick up one of their books, you physically can’t put it down. Elas took me on such an emotional rollercoaster — grief for Nyx, deep sympathy for Elas and August, and a healthy dose of rage for a few side characters.

While book one gave us all the banter and humor, book two is all about tension — and wow, it’s thick, like cut-it-with-a-knife thick. And somehow, with every book, it gets a little sadder, pushing us deeper and deeper into that hurt/comfort pit we secretly love.

Anxiety! That was where my heart was while reading this book. This book has the spice, the danger, the suspense, and some good old heartbreaking moments. I have never been big into scientific experimentation in novels, especially in fated mates, but was completely invested in where it was going to fit into the plot and series. So overall it was a great continuation of the series and I cannot wait for more... highly recommending this dystopian monster/human romance series!

I received this book as an ARC, I am enjoying books by this author, and giving my opinions and time freely!

Elas is the second book in the Mate's Mark series. This series is best read in order. This is the story of Elas a monster and August a human. This was a book I couldn't put down once I started. The characters and world that G. Eilsel has created are just amazing. This book has everything I enjoy in a great story which means it was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I love that we keep learning more about the overarching plot as we go. Elas and August will steal your heart because of how they grow together. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

I absolutely loved Ronan and the world G Eilsel is building. In Elas we get even more information regarding the fated mates and what’s going on within the military. August and Elas were fun to read, whereas in Ronan Cameron is sassy and sarcastic; August has this extreme positivity to him and wants and tries to see the good in everyone. I have no idea where the story is going to go and I am lowkey terrified for Nyx’s book next because if the very small snippet we got from Elas on what was happening; getting it from Nyx will be outright heartbreaking.

💬 My Thoughts:
👉 As always, G made a Dedication beautiful and profound.

🌍 The worldbuilding is still absolutely the best. This dystopian future where monsters rule over what's left of humanity feels vivid, raw, and immersive.
We get more insight into the shaky politics and power struggles, and it only makes everything more intense.

I love so much Elas and August... what a pair.
Their connection? Beautiful. Electric. I couldn’t get enough of them.
🔥 The spicy moments? Oh yes, they’re a lot . Passionate, intense, and just as emotional as they are hot and so perfect for each other.

🥰 I loved seeing more of Ronan and Cameron (the first one still obsessed and possessive to the last one🤭), and I can't wait for Reyes, Nyx book, oh my sweet soul, I have to prepare my heart, this one is promising... 💭🤧
This cast of amazing characters is growing, and every single one adds something special!!!

The ending? So emotional, and so, so good. G really knows how to keep you hooked. The overarching plot is clearly still building and I need the next book as I need sugar... 😂 no seriously like oxygen.

Picking up where Ronan ends off, we get to finally meet Elas & August in all their shining glory. And these two are •THE cuteness. 🥰 August is literal warmth & sunshine. Elas is his gentle giant..unless he’s protecting his mate orrrr it’s sexy sheet time 😏 Conch shells anybody?! 🐚 Maybe some accordion music instead?! 🪗🎶

But when August over hears whispered discussions & uncovers secret information, his heart beckons him to help the helpless. And what happens when a man decides to face off against monsters..?! Well..he’s gonna need [to convince] his own monster to help fix the world.

The world building is amazing. These characters are so interesting. And sweet precious angel baby Nyx makes an appearance too! 🥹🥰

‼️BUT Please note the trigger warnings! This book has heavier scenes than Ronan. Your mental health matters. ‼️

— some of my favorite moments —
“August,” I groan,“Fuck, look at you down there,”
“You said this gets bigger?”
“It’s like an accordion,” he blurts, and I snort as he flushes.
“Yeah, doc, like an accordion. It’s nature’s way of making sure I’m breeding you deep enough to make sure it takes.”
~

“Seven hells, Elas, I’ll have to work to get these muscles in shape. I’m out of practice.”
“Practice on me any time you want, doc,”
~

“Wait… you were running around chucking giant rocks at each other—”
“Boulders,” he corrects.
“—boulders at each other, and that was sport? What happened when you hit someone?” “What if they were hurt?”
“Of course they got hurt, August. They were hit by a boulder.”
~

“Listen here, you little shit,”… “Excuse me for not considering you a friend after you tried to stab my mate.”
“Technically, I was trying to stab you!” “Not again. I swear to the gods, it’s déjà vu.”
~

“Could you say no to that face?”
“I really don’t know how to answer that, man,” he whines. “It’s a trick question.”
“No one could resist his handsome face,” Elas argues. “Including you.”
“I definitely could never, ever resist your handsome—”
“Do not call him handsome,” Elas growls, and Reyes balks as he pleads for help with his eyes.
~

“Keep close behind me, and if something happens to me, you run.”
“El, no,”
“You run! Just like we talked about.”… “You have to keep going.”
“Don’t make me leave you,” “I can’t leave you. This is my fault… all of this is my fault. I’m sorry, El. I love you, I’m sorry, I—”
~

“I will always come for you, August,”
A monstrous gleam flickers in his eyes as his head twists to meet my gaze.
“And you, my love, will always come for me.”

Wow. I don't know what to say when it comes to this impeccable book.. I guess I'll start by saying that I've been very eager for the next book in this series ever since I read Ronan. That book, and those characters completely captivated me and this one did the same. We got to see glimpses of Elas and August in Ronan's story but we didn't get too much information about them. Most of the questions that were left unanswered in that book did get answered in this one, however, those answers brought upon more questions that we have yet to get answers to once more.

I'm really glad that this author took time to build a connection between August and Elas outside of them being fated mates. Both men, while kind and at times cheery, are both weary of letting others close. So for them to slowly get to know each other gradually really worked for them and added an extra layer of depth and emotional intimacy.

The banter between these two was hilarious to read about and I caught myself smiling at times at their silly dialogue. All the characters were written so well and were so full of life even the evil characters who I won't mention.

The world building was as detailed in this one as it was in the previous book, everything was described in such a vivid way I could almost picture where these characters were. I have to point out how much I enjoyed the fact that this book not only picked up from where the last one left off, it also gave more backstory into what was going on back at the barracks while Ronan was on the run with Cameron. The flowing plotline runs so smoothly between these two books and I'm so excited to see it continue, although seeing how this book ended I know its going to break me, but hopefully in the best of ways.

I'm really looking forward to Nyx's story and finding out what other secrets have yet to come to light. I highly recommend this book and Ronan, but keep in mind this is NOT a standalone. If you want to read this book you have to read Ronan first, and trust me, it'll be worth the time.

(P.S. I love the sketches at the end of these books depicting what the characters look like and what their identifying characteristics are, its so unique and helps create a better visual of the characters we're reading about.)

If I could give this book a 10, I would, no question about it. There’s honestly no other way to describe it than absolutely incredible. I loved it, truly, deeply, completely. Elas and August have officially become my favorite couple (and yes, I still adore Ronan and Cameron), but these two? They own my heart now.
They’re the perfect double sunshine duo. August is a medic with the biggest heart and the softest smiles, and I adored that about him. Even in this dystopian world, where so many have lost their kindness, he still holds onto his compassion—and his empathy might just be the most powerful weapon in the whole book.
Elas, in contrast, is more guarded. He’s lost faith in the world, but there’s still a part of him quietly searching for hope. And when he sees August for the first time, it’s like something inside him clicks, like the light he’d been looking for has finally started to shine again.
That being said… August is such a little menace in the best possible way. And poor Elas, he was stressed out, but also so clearly in love with his sunshine.
We also get to see Ronan our drama queen and our sarcastic Cameron , along with Reyes and Nyx, and of course, our amazing boomerang. Together, they're building the most wonderful found family. And yes, we get new additions one in particular that I need to know more about!
The questions left hanging in book one? Many are finally answered. But does that mean we’re done with the mysteries? Oh, not even close. New secrets are starting to surface, and it’s clear this is just the beginning. There’s still so much more ahead, and I’m beyond excited to be along for the ride.
In short: you need to read this book. You’ll laugh, cry, and fall head over heels for this ridiculously sweet and lovable couple. And yes, I’m blaming them entirely for raising my expectations in love, because the way they speak to each other? The way they see each other? YOU WILL FALL COMPLETELY IN LOVE.

P.S. This is just a mini post, I’ll definitely be writing another one, because this couple deserves all the love.

Book two in the Mate’s Mark series, Elas and August’s story, exceeded all my hopes, and G. Eilsel absolutely delivers. From the first page, this installment deepens the emotional resonance and broadens the haunting, post-apocalyptic world introduced in book one. Returning fans will be thrilled by how the events overlap with Ronan and Cameron’s arc, offering a fresh yet complementary perspective on the world after they leave the base.

Elas, Ronan’s loyal best friend, and August, the kind-hearted and eternally optimistic medic, are a pairing I was eager to explore, and their journey is everything I’d hoped for and more. Eilsel crafts their bond with patience and intention, allowing their relationship to unfold gradually and authentically before the mark cements their connection. The emotional intimacy is earned, not rushed, and watching them navigate their flaws and fears only makes their eventual unity more powerful.

What sets this book apart is the complexity of its characters. Elas and August are far from perfect, and that’s exactly what makes them feel so real. Their emotional growth is compelling and deeply satisfying.

The book is long, but the plot is masterfully paced, with the story’s darker turns adding depth rather than dragging it down. As the scope of the military’s cruelty becomes more apparent, the stakes rise—not just for the characters, but for the reader’s emotional investment. These revelations aren’t excessive; they’re necessary, and they make the moments of hope, connection, and resistance shine all the brighter.

Familiar faces from book one make welcome reappearances, remaining integral to the plot, and new characters add intrigue and promise for future installments. Lillith, in particular, completely stole my heart!

This book left me emotionally wrecked in the best way. I had to sit with it for a few days, turning over the characters, the choices, the world. It’s the kind of story that lingers, and I cannot wait to see where G. Eilsel takes us next.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Still loving this series. I was in a big book slump, and was just rereading comfort reads, but then I saw 2 more books were out in this series, so I jumped in. It cured my long-running slump.

The story continues from book one with a little timeline overlap, but with none of that annoying repetition. I was immediately sucked in. I’d already fallen in love with Elas in book one, and that love only grew with this one. Elas is written with great depth. He has a lot of feelings and emotions, as well as some internal battles.

The whole book, I was on edge, even though things between Elas and August aren’t strained or angsty. Because you can feel the tension and just know something big and bad is about to happen, you just don’t know when! It’s written really well. And when the climax does happen, it’s just as devastating as you thought it’d be. But I made it through and Lillith’s character adds some much-needed levity.

What I loved about this book is that even though it gets dark and heartbreaking, you know that Elas and August will never give up and will never leave the other. I’m worried about how Elas is left emotionally at the end, but we’ve been promised his story isn’t over, and he’ll get more page time and we’ll see him begin to heal.

August…I really love him and his morals. His desire to help and his positive outlook. What I didn’t always like was where those characteristics took them and how they put him and Elas is dangerous situations. I got frustrated with him even though I understood his desires and motives. But that made me respect his character, even when I just wanted Elas to tell him “NO!” Lol.

The chemistry between Elas and August is done well and they’re hot together. I liked that August was kind of experiencing true lust, longing, and sexual desire for the first time with Elas. It’s a new feeling for him and also makes things between them that much hotter. It gave their sexy times together a good sense of passion.

I’ve jumped right into Nyx, which I’m sure is going to rip my heart out (I mean, I shed a couple tears during his page time in this book, so…). But I need to see him heal and find a HEA. And I just love seeing the gang all together again.

Overall, the book is written very well. Almost perfectly. I only caught a couple errors/typos. Good stuff.
